just leave bitcoin open for a day or so, it wont slow down anything (noticably at least) and then its updated Cheesy
142  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: The GhettoBlower™ 9000 on: June 24, 2011, 12:44:46 AM
nope! yours is better  Grin
mine was cooling an AGP HD4670, that later broke (now an HD4650)

cant seem to get it to mine though, prolly cuz its AGP or something
143  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cheap Mining Rig on: June 23, 2011, 09:11:26 PM
a complete rig? no can do, not one that´s worth it at least
you can buy a secondhand card with that money, jam it into your existing PC and let that one mine though
144  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: The GhettoBlower™ 9000 on: June 23, 2011, 08:54:06 PM
heh, reminds me of when my GPU cooler broke down a year ago
145  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / building a miner, need advice on: June 23, 2011, 04:00:32 PM
so, i decided to build a dedicated miner
ofcourse i want as much Mhash/s for my bucks, so i went for a cheap motherboard, CPU and ram, a good PSU and a high-end graphics card
this translates to:

motherboard: ASUS p5kpl-vm
CPU: E6750 2.66Ghz
CPU cooler: Scythe Ninja mini cooler
RAM: 2Gb DDR2
PSU: OCZ modXstream pro 700W (overkill?)
graphics: HD6990

now, the question i mostly have: is the mobo/CPU combi good enough?
and 700 watt seems a bit overkill to me, wouldnt 600 or even 500 watts be enough (without later adding of graphics cards)
146  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: does a PCI x1 (or older PCI versions) limit the speed of mining? on: June 23, 2011, 02:53:10 PM
godofal, can you inform all of us here how much time you spent to find answer to your questions?
Do you really think it's better to create 100500th thread with the same question?
Respect other user's time, use google  Undecided

i know that in many cases, any question you could ask can be found in some place or another on the internet
but, that requires in some cases alot of searching and/or researching when a question like this can be asked and waited for, taking only a minute or so of time from someone who already knows
and then even that person can decide himself if he wants to spend his time answering it

this didnt seem like a question a 5 second google would answer, since bitcoin isnt thát big, or thát long around for every possible issue to already have seen the light of the internet

thanks for the answers btw!
147  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: June 23, 2011, 02:59:32 AM

can i change things to optimize it? (more Mhash/s then when i dont)

sure Wink
and how would one do that, and how much extra performance could one squeeze out? alot, or just .0001% or something?

Quote
is it possible to run a server for something like teamspeak?

easy via the package manager.
i assume thats the "installer" for linux?

and can i add a bigger (usb)flash drive that's accesible over the network and internet? (file sharing/streaming)

not sure what you mean ?

well, adding a second USB flash drive, HDD, or something like that, and make it accesible for anyone in my local network and via the internet, password protected ofc
just for storing some music, maybe having some of the torrents, that kinda stuff

thanks btw!

this looks kickass, if it is what i think it is xD

i havent read up about linux and all so heres some newb questions xD

if i put this on a flash drive, i plug it in, set bios to boot from USB, itl boot and be ready to go right?
i can also just mine in a pool, instead of solo?
would i need to change anything for it to work with any setup (motherboard, CPU, graphics card) in the software before starting?

any chance of getting a bittorrent client to work?

from what i understand, the last 3 things will be the hardest Cheesy
im up for some challenges, and im pretty tech-savvy, but i just never really got into the whole linux environment, but would love to Cheesy
149  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: does a PCI x1 (or older PCI versions) limit the speed of mining? on: June 23, 2011, 01:02:54 AM
i know, but my question is: would that negatively influence the Mhash/S?
150  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Once the Exchange opens...What are you going to do? on: June 23, 2011, 12:42:11 AM
THE BEST IS TO

SELL,  SELL,  SELL,  SELL,  SELL,  SELL,  SELL,  SELL,  SELL,  SELL,

And wait for the market to correct

that's a winner's attitude! sell sell sell when the prices are down, and buy buy buy when they'r up again
solid plan!
151  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: does a PCI x1 (or older PCI versions) limit the speed of mining? on: June 22, 2011, 10:21:25 PM
hmm, then i remembered incorrectly xD

well, same question for a PCI-E x1 then Tongue
152  Economy / Services / Re: [GIG] Earn BTC for unghosting craigslist ads on: June 22, 2011, 09:40:50 PM
i live in the netherlands, so no US phone nr
but i can post ads for you, i could even try dutch sites (like a dutch version of ebay) if you want

send me a message if you're interested
153  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / does a PCI x1 (or older PCI versions) limit the speed of mining? on: June 22, 2011, 08:09:27 PM
now, i know that PCI is backwards compatible, so one could place a highend card like a HD6990 in an PCI-E x1 (or PCI V1.0 or something) slot and use that right?
i know that the bandwidth will slow down, wich sucks for gaming, but as we're talking mining and not gaming: does that matter in terms as Mhas/S?
and what about power? the PCI power cables from a PSU would surely deliver enough to compensate the loss of PCI-E x16 power (still HD6990) or would you need to underclock it? and a card like HD6970?

also, so i wont have to open a second thread; is there an ubuntu edition designed for mining to place on an USB stick that i can download somewhere, and use that without (much) fiddling around?

thanks in advance!

edit:
forgot bout an idea i wanted to ask about: mining costs GPU power, so the CPU barely has any load at all right? so wouldnt it be possible to let the CPU handle a part of the pool server stuff, so that you dont need a fee (i know about BTCguild, but not donating costs them money Tongue)
or hosting servers like teamspeak?
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Place your bets: the price of bitcoin after Mt.gox opens on: June 22, 2011, 01:09:33 AM
my guess is $13.13
unlucky might be lucky Cheesy
155  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Earn 131BTC or 1BTC for getting shops/organisations to accept Bitcoin! on: June 22, 2011, 01:08:28 AM
tomorow im going to start working on these:

http://www.onepcbsolution.com/
http://www.sparkfun.com/index
http://www.shopto.net/
http://www.taydaelectronics.com
http://www.alternate.com/

im guessing some are already mailed, but im guessing that the more questions they get about it the sooner they'l accept bitcoins Cheesy
156  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: solo. on: June 22, 2011, 12:19:21 AM
would it be worth it?
heh, kinda impossible to know without the hardware, and electricity bills you're gonna get

as a rule of thumb, i used this: http://bitcoinx.com/profit/index.php
157  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Heat with 5830s on: June 21, 2011, 09:04:45 PM
you could try buying some PCI extenders and placing them differently (mod the case if u need to)
that way they (if done properly) they can dissipate the heat better Smiley
158  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining with an integrated Intel video card on: June 21, 2011, 08:52:28 PM
joining a mining pool that pay per share and do CPU mining is an option.
yeah... that wouldnt be good as far as ive read
a (decent) GPU outperforms a (decent) CPU by a factor over 100
the CPU would be at 100% (or close to) load too, so the thing would be useless for everything else also
159  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Once the Exchange opens...What are you going to do? on: June 21, 2011, 08:39:08 PM
since im so brand new i dont have any funds there yet, i wont be doing anything at all
but im gonna try and get money there and buy buy buy when it hits the low, wich i expect/hope to be somewhere around 3
160  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: June 21, 2011, 09:47:59 AM
allright, so ive been looking and reading around here, and i just registered, only to find out im restricted to this section Cheesy
wanna get outta here quick, so here goes:

im really interested in the bitcoin as an idea and currency, wanna make some money with it and help it grow
for now im still reading up and looking what's possible, but since i got loads of time, that shouldnt take too long

also, im a quick learner that understands alot more about computers and "internet" than the average digidodo xD (not that's hard)

the reason i wanna get outta here is that im interested in the marketplace and to be able to post questions in the right sections

*crosses fingers*
