DO NOT USE THIS
There is a more serious issue than that he already mined some blocks.  There is no way of knowing he hasn't mined EVEN MORE and is holding them to himself.

The genesis block is NOT properly timestamped.  The bitcoin genesis block contains the following quote:
"The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks"

The reason for this is so you can be sure Satoshi hadn't been mining a chain for the past 10 years.  That quote PROVES that noone started mining before Jan 03 2009.

In IXcoin the genesis block has the quote:
"To see the farm is to leave it"
https://github.com/ixcoin/ixcoin/blob/Branch_v0.3.24/src/main.cpp

That is totally meaningless and proves nothing.

Either the dude who made this didn't understand the reason for timestamping the genesis block, or deliberately left it out.  Either way, there is no way you can know that he or someone else hasn't been mining an alternate chain for the past 2 years being kept hidden and that will be released eventually later..

There are blockchain checkpoints within the code which prevent this from happening.
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 10, 2011, 08:28:07 PM

You seem to have added a get block RPC but apart from that your changes look pretty normal, except that you seem to have neglected to change the four-byte hello sequence that protects each variant from chatting pointlessly with some other variant when people start using patches that allow them to run on non-standard ports.

As long as people stick to the hardcoded networking port, fine. But as soon as some user of mainstream bitcoin hacks his bitcoind to use some weird port that happens to be the port Ixcoin normally uses, you will get told of thousands of nodes all of which will be happy to flood you the same way if your code too is willing to try connecting to a port other than its hardcoded normal port.

So I'd suggest maybe picking a hardcoded hello string for your main net and your test net and get them in use quick before there are so many nodes it is a bit late for such a change.

Good point. We were torn on that one. We didn't change the four-byte hello sequence in the end because we wanted to maximize compatibility with third party Bitcoin apps/websites and minimize adoption difficulty.

So I generated my first 2 blocks less than a second apart.

Why do you say "16*6=96 IXC" when "96 IXC" would suffice¿?¿ 16*6 means nothing as far as i can tell

16*6 is a reference to the X in Ixcoin, as in Hex/Hexadecimal/16.

If you have any doubts as to whether the .exe is compromised, you are welcome to recompile from the source.

How many blocks are there currently?

Block count was at 6050 about 2 hours ago, it's now 6498.
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 10, 2011, 07:12:50 PM
Excellent!

To those questioning the point....well this is kinda the whole point! A free market of blockchains, each with different purposes. Ixcoin will allow us to see how inflation affects blockchain based currency systems, and as BTC is the original, won't really have an effect on it's value. Way I see it, BTC is the base measure for all that will follow, as long as the original remains intact and uncorrupted it will serve as a measure of value.

Good work Thomas, this will only add further to the knowledge we are pioneering.

Thanks for the support. Now get your miner onto the Ixcoin blockchain before difficulty skyrockets Wink

Hm Linux 64bit client doesn't start... Very strange... Huh

Sorry to hear that. Do you get an error message? What platform are you running?
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 10, 2011, 07:00:44 PM
This is ridiculous.

There are already 580,000 ixcoins in existence? And you expect people to start mining for you?

A major portion of the 580K IXC have been set aside to promote and develop Ixcoin. For instance, see the Bounties page.

Judging from the quickly increasing Ixcoin mining activity, it appears miners are taking on the challenge.

156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANNOUNCE] Mining on Ixcoin, a new Bitcoin fork on: August 10, 2011, 05:44:55 PM

Ixcoin is a fork of Bitcoin with twice the inflation rate of 96 Ixcoins per block and the same 21 million total limit.

Ixcoin is intended to closely mirror code updates to Bitcoin to allow for easy interoperability with Bitcoin-related third party services and APIs.

How does Ixcoin differ from Bitcoin?

  • Shorter maturity period

There are currently ~7M (as of August 2011) in existence and  it is expected that all 21 million Bitcoins will have been generated by 2033. Whereas there are currently ~580K Ixcoins (as of 10th August 2011) in existence and it is expected that all 21 million Ixcoins will have been generated by 2015. Ixcoin maturity will be reached ~18 years before Bitcoin's.

This is because a 16*6=96 IXC reward is created per new block instead of 50 BTC in Bitcoin.

  • New blockchain

Although Bitcoin's blockchain is in the same format as Ixcoin's, they use different genesis blocks and have a different reward scheme. So Bitcoins will not be valid in the Ixcoin blockchain and vice-versa.

  •   Different default ports

Bitcoin's operating port 8332 is now 8337 with Ixcoin.
Bitcoin's RPC server port 8333 is now 8338 with Ixcoin.

  • New key format

Wallet public keys now start with the letter x instead of the number 1 for Bitcoins.

    Bitcoin wallet key: 175tWpb8K1S7NmH4Zx6rewF9WQrcZv245W
    Ixcoin wallet key : x75tWpb8K1S7NmH4Zx6rewF9WQrcZv245W
