141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: April 14, 2024, 05:29:25 PM
English Premier League on the verge of loosing its credibility. Arsenal 0:2 Aston Villa

Early hours of today, I made a post when Liverpool was about loosing it to Crystal Palace and finally it happened. In the race to the English premier League title, I believe Liverpool more than Arsenal. Liverpool refused to win against Crystal palace and now Arsenal cannot win against Aston villa. Now, they have gifted the top 1 status to Manchester city. If this finally happens, England cannot be said to be among the tough leagues again.

Some sections I feel it's not too good for a newbie to engage in discussion are: The reputation board, Loan section, Meta, development and technical discussion, scam accusation and project development.
This is very misleading Op. A newbie can actually contribute anywhere and the last three boards that I bolded is always flooded by newbies with genuine reasons.
Technical discussion: When I was visiting this board, I see genuine newbies who located the board through google search. They come there to ask genuine real time questions and have answers.
Scam accusation: I have seen newbies accusing casinos and other projects of attempting scam. You shouldn't be an established member before you will be scammed or accuse someone of scam.
Project development: Some project owners are just new in this forum.
143  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A trader lost over $1 Million + on Binance Feature trading on: April 14, 2024, 04:26:00 PM

That is super risky why did he invest in Meme tokens like Pepe it does not have any use and the thing here is he doesn't know how to use a stop-loss.
He used a meme coins because I guess it is more volatile and such can give faster profits. Maybe, he didn't use stop loss because his capital was much and as such he didn't think he could be liquidated.
Expect to take a lot of the difference that occurs when PEPE price fluctuations move, but if you don't use Stop Loss, then it will be disastrous.
His fault was also that he did not monitor the trades made.

But it would be foolish to lose $1 million in assets because of futures trading in memecoin.
I remember when I was new in the cryptocurrency industry, when I was scammed consecutively online. It was easy for me to send $1,500 or $2,000 to people. At a time, I realised that if I changed the money to fiat, it will be so difficult for me to count such amount of money, which is in millions in my currency and give to someone I don't know online. With this same analogy, it would have been difficult for this man to use 1 million dollar in fiat nature to trade. But I will be so easy to wire it from portfolio.
144  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: April 14, 2024, 02:05:13 PM
Liverpool 0:1 Crystal Palace HT

I don't seem to understand what is the problem with Liverpool this recent time. After their unpopular action against Atlanta right in anfield, I thought that they have learned their lesson. It was so obvious that Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp made some ugly decisions in that very match having in mind to still be in the race to win triple this season. Instead of playing his best legs in the first 45mins and then rest them, he decided to rest his best legs in the first half and the overall result wasn't anything close to favourable. Today, I saw that he started his best legs and as well he is in charge of the possessions, but the result so far is not in his side. At this critical time of the English premier League, no once cares about possessions and the rest of them. Who went home with the full points is what we care. I have known Crystal Palace as a club who will win nothing but can make you lose something. If the Liverpool side is not careful enough, they might lose everything in the quest of having many things. Let's see what the second half has for us.
145  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A trader lost over $1 Million + on Binance Feature trading on: April 14, 2024, 01:52:21 PM
I do not have an idea on how to trade futures, but with the little research I meant about future trading, I concluded that it is a kind of gambling. And it is only those who are mentally strong and emotionally rugged that goes into features with such amount of capital.

What I see here he does not have knowledge about risk management which is why he lost everything.
It might not only be risk management but over confidence of the trader.
146  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What could be a comprehensive guide for a newbie here? on: April 14, 2024, 12:38:43 PM
And then in a year, another topic will be created with such questions. Grin
OP has been on the forum for a year. What is wrong with you? Keep in mind that by creating such stupid topics, you are once again attracting unnecessary attention to your account. And such interest may not always work in your favor.
It's true. Tomorrow will make it one year of OP creating his account in this forum but I am not sure he has spent upto 1 month in the forum. He abandoned the account and then returned after 1 year. Maybe forgot what was recommended for him and created identical topics. He is still a newbie irrespective of the age of his account. I wish he stays this time and face his fears.

I am sure that this is not your first account, and you will help us find out the first one.
If he had account before, he would have been smarter. He is obviously a novice, I'm sure of this...
147  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always do your own research (DYR) on: April 13, 2024, 11:40:54 PM
The message originator doesn't sound like a business person to me because from the very start he shown low level knowledge of what he invested in and he may have also taken bitcoin or cryptocurrency as a get rich quick scheme and, this will affect him alot both in the cryptocurrency market and also in real life because no business person will invest $500 business money on bitcoin without making research of the risk that could come along that investment.
I also tried to analyse the chat and it wasn't worth it. Maybe it is a randomly generated chat to depict what happens on everyday life. I could believe that it wasn't bitcoin they supposedly invested in. From $500 to $130 LOL. How many percent on losses.  This cannot be our bitcoin.
148  Other / Meta / Re: AI generated content by newbies on: April 13, 2024, 11:29:04 PM
Keep in mind that spambusters are probably catching just a fraction of those who use AI tools.
Seems you exaggerated here. You mean there are much more uncaught AI users here in the forum. What then is theymos waiting for to come up with rule regarding AI in the forum?

I don't want to automate anything related with AI, and don't fully trust any tool that is checking for AI generated posts, but using multiple tools is making those chances much higher.
Whenever I am checking if member is using AI tools for writing their posts I am checking all their post history, not just a single suspicious post.
If you are actually a quality poster, you will know eventually whether the thread is AI generated or not. Also, tracing the post history of the author is also a great idea if he’s really into AI majority of his posts, that way we can easily claim that he is not actually the author of his post. Furthermore, by using these AI detector tools, probably they can be reliable at some point but since they’re just computer generated as well, they can be prone to errors and mistakes. It’s still best to use your own intelligence and tell whether the post is AI generated or not.
Reading the whole post history of a suspect is a good idea to detect AI posters. The only problem with this is if the AI user is consistent in its usage. It will be difficult to detect. But if they use AI most times and the other times they make posts themselves, the discrepancy in their post will show that they use AI.
149  Other / Meta / Re: Option to Allow / Restrict merits on the OP Posts on: April 13, 2024, 11:13:17 PM

Just like there's self moderation, how about if the Op will have an option to make the thread unable to receive any merits(whether to the Op or to others on the thread). With this, people who spams in ongoing conversations in order to hunt merits will not post in that thread. It will be like a serious discussion thread. I don't know if anyone understands me.
I don’t know about that. The motivation for many spammers is the money they get from signature campaigns, “moderating merits” will not stop them from spamming threads to reach their weekly quota. Besides the community can see through these merit hunting posts, there is little chance of them getting any merits from members.
You are right and this means there are different levels of spamming.
A spammer wearing signature; This doesn't care much about merits since the weekly bucks will be coming.
A spammer trying to rank up;
Here will be the type of spammer that would be stopped by my proposed idea. This spammer will try everything possible to earn merits.
150  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You will lose more if you DCA without knowledge on: April 12, 2024, 10:29:02 PM
What I have noticed with my bitcoin holding is that, I have continued to lose more, each time i try to take advantage of the price to profits, in form of DCA approach.

This outcome lead me to make further research about the best way to build profits using DCA and I find out that, is a wrong thing to do as a newbies without adequate knowledge about the volatility of the bitcoin market, and also no matter how sweet the DCA approach have been for experience bitcoin investors, DCA can still be the worst for a newbies,  so I say newbies should stay away from DCA until they have the knowledge of the risk and approach to DCA.

Thank you for reading.
This is a very dump thread. I didn't expect to read this type of thread today. I mean if DCA is as difficult as you portray it, to the extent of advising newbies to stay away from it. Which is the safe means of investment to be followed?

All DCA needs is consistency and patience. You do not need to study the market price, read candle or do technical analysis. Just be steady with what you can afford to invest and smile on the long run. I don't believe there are alot of things to know about DCA. Unless you started at the apex of bull run and want to withdraw at the climax of bear market.
151  Other / Meta / Re: Option to Allow / Restrict merits on the OP Posts on: April 12, 2024, 08:58:12 PM
In general, everyone will allow the OP post to be merited but there can be situations like if any admin or mod, posts a thread he does not need merits and therefore he may restrict the post to be merited, so people and/or the merit sources do not send merits to those posts and rather give merits to ordinary people.

Let me know your comments on this idea  Smiley
Oops!
You digressed. Just when I thought you will arrive at what is in my mind, then there's a deviation. Let me refine this your idea with what I think could be a better option.

152  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful about some messages to your DM on: April 09, 2024, 11:44:50 PM
I believe some members are already knowledgeable about such but also I still believe that some aren't. The forum is a big place and any big platform that discusses crypto-currency is always a target for scammers.

The forum has done so much to frustrate those fraudsters and I think it should be commended although this scammers are dogged with their actions. They do send messages to your DM with all sort of crazy format.

I have gotten some recently and I would be posting although I have edited the link so it won't be clickable.

Greetings mate
Judging by your merits and answers on the forum, you are an experienced user of cryptocurrencies
The fact is that a few months ago i was hired as a cryptocurrency consultant and journalist at a well-known cryptopotato
At the moment i am writing articles on the topic "Development of cryptocurrency in the current world order"
I can only get true and comprehensive knowledge from the members of this forum
This is not spam, scam or a prank
I collect statistics for some articles
If the article will be popular,i will share part of my profit with you
To be honest,i'm afraid to create a topic, because now, under the new rules, the merits of the account can be removed Cheesy
I'd be glad to talk to you

-Regards

I haven't checked the authenticity of this message but it already spells scam. I won't even want to find out if I am wrong or right on that.

Be careful about such newbies, they come with all these enticing stories all to draw you in and then telling you how it's not a scam. In your best interest it best not to find out so don't even click the link. I would find better ways to protect my DM from such in the future.

It's not looking like a scam attempt but it is an unsolicited message. It is right to treat every stranger as a scammer until it is proven otherwise. If you find the message offensive kindly report to moderator and if a few more users report him, he would get a temporary ban which will build up to a permanent ban.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we really need to blame fraudsters on: April 09, 2024, 09:28:42 PM
Scammers are smart (not all). They are negatively innovative as they innovate new ways of deceiving people. The vulnerable innocent people to not learn how to avoid scammers in any higher institution. They only learn from experience, i.e after they have been scammed or they learn from the experience of others that were scammed. Apart from the above, the level of intelligence of people differ. Imagine that people can fall for the trick of not telling their loved ones about an opportunity until the opportunity is ripped and it will be a surprise to their loved ones and they'll just believe. They will trust a random online persona they haven't seen and disconnect with their loved ones.
Op, I understand your points, but most times the vulnerable victims are also not to be blamed, especially when they are not exposed to the right information of fraud at the right time.
154  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Illegal in Nepal? on: April 09, 2024, 08:44:10 PM
If you are doing something illegal (according to the laws of the country where you live), then you cannot even expect a different outcome from what just happened to these Nepalese. Their age shows that they are young and inexperienced people, and they probably came under the radar because they did not try to hide from the authorities at all, and it is not difficult to connect points that include only the bank and crypto exchange.
Were they arrested on the charges of underage or because they defaulted the law?

If people in Nepal want to trade crypto, then unfortunately they have to be smarter than the authorities - which means looking for ways that do not involve domestic banks and KYC on crypto exchanges.
They need to be smart about it. In as much as there's internet, there's always a way to bypass or outsmart the government
155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why not a new one? on: April 09, 2024, 08:27:46 PM
Why not a person with the same motivation and the intention to create a new enhanced Bitcoin ( ofc their alternative name ) just with the features and stuff, launch this new coin protocol, and also keep its supply limited just like the Bitcoin? let's say I as a person created the "X" coin with a new consensus mechanism like POP (proof of performance) or PoW itself and an enhanced transaction speed with more no of transactions per block by creating a set of master blocks interconnected with the traditional blocks of the same size 4Mb, with predetermined values already stored inside the master block as a cash-register and once a transaction is initiated a block records on the ledger and the master ledger already initiated the transaction, just waits for the confirmation from the block. I think this will reduce the time per transaction and make the blocks ready in less time for the next transaction initiation, and this can greatly enhance the 7 transactions --> 200+ maybe transactions. I don't know just saying, that even people who are involved with the development of Bitcoin will disagree with me in creating a new cryptocurrency like this.

In all your idea, you didn't mention about decentralization. Bitcoin is the only coin that is 100% decentralized. Most developers have created what you described in OP but they all faded away. It will therefore be nice if you join the bitcoin blockchain maintainers and implement these your ideas as a means to scale bitcoin. Just like LN, SigWit, Taproot etc. This will make our dear bitcoin more sustainable than creating thousands duplicate bitcoin-likes.
156  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is forex trading a hobby or a skill on: April 09, 2024, 07:43:32 PM
Doing forex trading as a hobby will result in big losses. Because most likely it will end in loss. So, how can a hobby be called a hobby if it takes the money he has. However, forex trading can be used as a hobby if one has skills in it. He definitely has a reason why he likes doing it, and the most reasonable reason is that he always makes a profit there. Which means, he has skills in that matter.
Many people get stressed just trying to trade forex, so I don't think it's a hobby that can be done for fun without having any skills in it.
Maybe we have to define the word hobby in a more clear terms. If something is your hobby, it doesn't mean that you won't lose money doing it and neither does it mean that you will make money doing it. I think Bobby has no direct attachment with money.
Secondly, hobby doesn't necessarily mean fun. I think it could be something you do often and have passion doing it and not necessarily having fun doing it.
157  Economy / Economics / Re: Lock your bank balance on: April 09, 2024, 07:09:48 PM
In my country, until the mid-2000s, the Postal institution enabled its savers to partially or completely freeze their balances for a specific period of time, provided that the freeze on the amount would not be lifted regardless of whatever reasons, even in if the person’s death. This product was not available in banks as I recall, but since the 2000s this product has been completely abandoned. When I think about the concept, I find it very useful and it can serve the financial institution and the saver as well, especially those who want to secure their savings so that they never think about using it. I think that there are many reasons that might encourage a person to do this according to his assessment of his needs in the medium and long term. The financial institution will also benefit from the liquidity that it will accumulate from the frozen balances, in addition to the possibility to impose fees for the service.
As the world advances, and civilization is in crescendo, it is expected that some practices will gradually fade away. Everyone is tilting towards freedom and liberty. Even people in the third world countries are beginning to resist centralization. I personally will like to lock my own money and still hold the key than let another man lock it and will not release the key even if I am to die.

I think a lot of families do this.

They put in money in a bank account in which they dedicate that to their children usually for their college fund or something like that. I do see the point but honestly I think it would be better if you just put it in to crypto. Even if it is locked, fiat money will still lose value over time unlike in crypto especially in bitcoin.

I am cautious about advising individuals on the long-term retention of Bitcoin for their family or children. Its security vulnerabilities make it susceptible to theft, with little to no possibility of tracing or recovery. Instead, a portion of such investments could be allocated to cryptocurrency, while the rest could be diversified into more stable assets like fiat currency and real estate. Although these alternatives may offer lower returns on investment, they provide easier and safer avenues for wealth preservation
There's no kind of investment without risk.
Fiat = depreciation and theft
Real Estate = Over price, dispute, natural disasters.
Crypto = Lose of access, hack, etc.
Just diversify and remain calm.
158  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think merit is by chance or lengthy article? on: April 09, 2024, 06:23:49 PM
What brings merit is quality post but the quality of your post is subjective which means it depends on the merit source spread merit based on what he /she considers as quality post.

A quality post can either be lengthy or short but it's more about the information that it contains. Sometimes your post can be very informative but it has been treated or it's known to the people already hence they do not consider it anymore.

But perhaps you want to earn some merit for good post then you have to look at how people who have been earning some good merit does it and then if you follow the steps it certainly bring you some merit too.
In my early days here, I discovered something about merits. I discovered one earlier and the other later.
What I discovered earlier was;
When you have the consciousness of getting merits and put good efforts in your posts, you will earn it. This worked for me many times, but at a time it stopped working for me. No matter how merit conscious I'll be, I will not get merits.
The second phase came;
This was when I started flowing with the forum discussion and never had merits in mind because I already earned enough to take me to Snr member. Merits started coming gradually and was steady. So, merit is just dynamic.
159  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why newbies get banned on: April 09, 2024, 06:03:50 PM
Getting account banned is not different for newbies or experts but there are some common mistakes that can get anyone's account banned anytime. Accounts that are warned more than once are banned in most cases.
If a user copies someone else's post exactly or if a user posts AI and for some reason does not add the source link, then there is a possibility that his account will be banned.
The following sections will help you understand the reasons behind account bans. But one must refrain from posting Artificial Intelligence and copying posts.

Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed
AI Spam Report Reference Thread
Most of the banned accounts are actually newbie accounts or lower ranked accounts. This does not mean that only newbies commit plagiarism and neither does it mean that only newbies spam. Why the number of banned newbies exceeds that of other members is because moderators focus more on newbie accounts. This could be because it is assumed that they know nothing about the forum and maybe about cryptocurrency at large. This is why newbies need to remain calm until they attain a certain height and knowledge in the forum.
160  Other / Meta / Re: i was just curious... on: April 09, 2024, 05:48:15 PM
Chances are many of them sold their Bitcoins when it went x10 or x100.
I would say that chances are pretty high.

I know two early adopters cases (close friend and friend of that friend) where they cashed out way too early, at around ~$200. They both got back in later but at the higher price and interestingly they are not bothered much with the fact they could have been millionaires now, which is a healthy attitude ofc.
Yea, the chances are very high and I do not also blame them for selling early because as at then they were also in good profits. Imagine someone who bought at $0.45 and sold at $10, that's such a large margin of profits. During those times, just a few would believe that bitcoin will one day clutch $1,000.
