Pump and dump lasted only a couple hours this time.

Sounds like you should look up the definition of pump and dump.

We have stabilized at ~245. Chill here, then move up! Smiley

  • Gives a million teenagers Bitcoin denominated income. Wink

The killer app?  Tongue

Yep. Monetize your surplus bandwidth!

IMHO, first credible candidate for true mass market use of "the blockchain". Smiley

You can use Joystream and get paid to seed, or you can use another client like μTorrent® to leech while suffering the pain of adware.

Bitcoin assumes the role of background infrastructure for solving an existing incentives problem here.

JoyStream: | A new BitTorrent client, with faster speeds, streaming and paid seeding.

Proof of Concept Demonstration | Bitcoin micropayments for:

Real time streaming over bittorrent / getting paid for providing bandwidth over bittorrent.

Quote from: Dr. Bedeho Mender | Joystream Founder & Developer
Fast Downloads

JoyStream rewards seeders for providing bandwidth with micropayments, and this leads to much higher download speeds on all content.

More Content

JoyStream gives anyone with a full download a reason to stick arround and become a seeder, which radically improves content availability.

Streaming

JoyStream makes it possible to download and seek to any part of a large HD audio or video file by simply requesting and paying for it directly, which makes streaming work as well as on the web.

Paid Seeding

Anyone with spare bandwith can use JoyStream and earn BitCoin, at what ever price they choose, in exchange for seeding to peers.
If you have some rare content which no one else has, you are rewarded by being able to charge higher prices

The brilliant insight of the BitTorrent system was to mobilize the idle upstream bandwidth of peers which had a mutual interest in acquiring the same content through barter tit-for-tat exchange. However, the problem of how to incentivize bandwidth contribution from peers which had no need for downloading, e.g. because they had completed the download - or because they had no interest, was a serious problem for the quality of the experience. People tried to work around this by organizing into private communities which imposed strict rules for minimial levels of bandwidth contribution, however access to and continued membership with such communities always remained too elusive and complicated for a lot of people. JoyStream attempts to solve this problem, with an open peer-to-peer solution in line with BitTorrent itself, by using the new money of the Internet, [Bitcoin].

This:

  • Fixes the incentives problem in Bittorrent. Shocked
  • Makes private trackers obsolete. Shocked
  • Incentivizes seeding hard to find content. Shocked

And maybe:

  • Gives a million teenagers Bitcoin denominated income. Wink

If you felt a disturbance in the force just now, that was probably copyright holders screaming in terror.

When you look at the problem as a purely Greek monetary problem, you have already failed in your analysis and conclusion.

Lets say that Greece does default. It is a relatively small amount of money and the loses are spread out over the whole world thanks to the IMF.

Its not the money, its the confidence in the union that will take the bigger hit.

yup

is there a story behind this? Eligius is for the block limit increase and isn't including TX's to press the issue?

Luke doesn't support the block size increase.

I suspect he's against the use of Bitcoin other than for "proof of faith". Tongue Wink

Strange no-one has launched proof-of-faith-as-a-service.

Because cryptocurrency isn't relevant enough for global finance.

Oh and before somebody brings up Cyprus: Remember Neo & Bee?

"Oh and before somebody brings up Germany: Remember the War?" (DON'T MENTION THE WAR!)

Mucus, you've been trolling this here forum since 2011. Did you manage to pick some up along the way? Kiss Smiley

156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!!!! on: June 15, 2015, 03:46:25 PM

Damn, just beat me to it!

Bitcoin is a permanent, immutable, global record of ownership.

As well as a global, secure, disinflationary money.

Could such a thing conveivably find use outside the US & EU? Shocked

Entire new markets would have to come on line.

The last time something like that happened, CHINA happened.

for the thousandth time, 1MB was a temporary patch to counteract DoS on the network when it was small and vulnerable.  today is quite different, which goes to your pt that things have evolved for Bitcoin to easily remove that artificial limit to allow for the inevitable growth that will come in the next spike.  cramping it at 1MB, which was never meant to happen, is the height of hypocrisy. many, many ppl including in the technical community that i see here and on reddit feel that the limit should be raised.  everyone who works in SV understands that rapidly gaining mkt share via the Uber and AirBnB model  works and is crucial to outrunning regulation.  your small block theory is the epitome of centralization forcing all users off the mainchain and into offchain solutions, some more centralized and regulated than others.

Hear, hear.
