Could be jumping the gun here, but is Coinbase down?

It is down to me.

144  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust exchange-traded fund (ETF) will go public following on: January 06, 2015, 08:43:17 PM
At the price of $287, $20m will buy up 70K coins. And bitstamp will buy back 18-19k coins. I am neutral now, your guys to figure whether the price should go up or down.
145  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust exchange-traded fund (ETF) will go public following on: January 06, 2015, 08:41:10 PM
The SEC-filings are on Nasdaq, so trustworthy it is, even though no effective date has been scheduled.
"Approximate date of commencement of proposed sale to the public: As soon as practicable after this registration statement becomes effective."

http://secfilings.nasdaq.com/filingFrameset.asp?FileName=0001193125-14-457552.txt&FilePath=\2014\12\31\&CoName=WINKLEVOSS+BITCOIN+TRUST&FormType=S-1%2FA&RcvdDate=12%2F31%2F2014&pdf=

Also, the number of shares will be 1M, and go on offer for $20,09 each.
So $20mil to start with? That's a bit undrwhelming.

Other ETFs are coming on the way. They are pending for regulatory approvals.
146  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 06, 2015, 08:18:50 PM
I heard bitcoin mentioned in cnbc and bloomberg tv many times this week. Good thing too.

When mainstream media is pumping, imo that usually means insiders are looking to get out. For example, Fox News didn't become all about bitcoin until it was over $950, and we all know what happened soon after.

Main stream media is not pumping at all. They are bashing bitcoins in the program instead.

i don't understand...who care in which way they will refund us? why it's important to you?

Yes, coz 18K buy order will affect the price a lot.
149  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp most likely will buy back the bitcoins they lost on: January 06, 2015, 07:19:21 PM
1) Bitstamp has enough to cover in their reserve.

OR

2) They buy the 18K coins through second market or another route. They are NOT going to go to finex and place a market order for 18K coins if that's what some people are thinking. Stamp buying 18K coins will have no affect on the price.

Secondary market is the exchange. Primary market means miners. If you believe they buy from miners, it is understandable to me.

But still, when miners supply the exchanges less coins than before (coz they sold most outputs to bitstamp), will the price go up or not?

Let's assume that, miners usually dump 3600 coins to the open market every week. In the next ten weeks, they will sell half outputs, which is 1800 coins, to bitstamp. Now the supply on the exchange is the remaining 1800 coins. Will this move the price up or down?
150  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp most likely will buy back the bitcoins they lost on: January 06, 2015, 07:14:16 PM
They claim they already have more than enough Bitcoin in their cold reserves to cover the losses. There is no reason to buy it back. IIRC they were operating way over full reserve when they were last publicly audited.

At this moment, bitstamp may have the incentive to bluff a little bit to stabilize the situation. We cannot know for sure if they have enough reserve to cover their ass.

Anyway, maybe you are right. But both of us are just speculating.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitstamp-passes-audit-overseen-bitcoin-developer-mike-hearn/

They had slightly over full reserve on 24th May 2014. On top of that they "confiscated" unclaimed unverified accounts back in October, which would've increased their reserves quite a bit:

http://www.forexnews.com/blog/2014/10/17/bitcoin-exchange-bitstamp-confiscate-unverified-accounts/

Quoted from the coindesk article: "As of 13:00 CEST 24/05/2014, Bitstamp held 183,497.40310794 BTC in their cold wallet. Combined with the money that was in their hot wallet this totalled to about 45 BTC more than the total customer deposits and Ripple IOUs recorded in their database."

Is this 45 BTC reserve enough to cover the 18K stolen coins?

Why?

1. If they just escape, there will be serious legal consequences. And the whole media world (CNBC, CNN, etc.) is watching at them.

2. They cannot refund USD. The purchasing price of stolen bitcoins are different: someone purchase at $1000, some at $0.25. If they refund by purchasing prices, many will be unhappy. Also, the market price is changing seconds by seconds. If they refund by the market price, many may be unhappy either because bulls may argue my coin has appreciation potential and I don't want the worthless fiat at all. Finally, if they refund by moving average price, people will argue why use 30 days MA instead of 50 days MA, etc. So refunding USD is near impossible for bitstamp.

For that reasons, I believe bitstamp will quietly buy back the bitcoin from the open market.
153  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next up: Forced artificial crash by bitstamp on: January 06, 2015, 04:22:28 AM
Bitstamp has to manipulate/force the market into a big crash to be able to honor the funds in all people's accounts, only with a much much lower bitcoin value they will be able to cover their losses.
Be prepared. When bitstamp opens their trading again the bottom will be very deep down.

Bitstamp is not stupid. If they use bots to cheat the market, they know US Marshall and FBI will be after them. To manipulate the price down, you bears even dare to promote crime. Lol.

Oh really? what about Mark Karpeles? does US Marshall or FBI follow his ass?
I think he is doing pretty well these years, enjoying his Luxury life and at the same time investing in bitcoin bank project and some tv programs?
Oh.. you would say he is an exception?

Yeah, because of one outlaw, you bears felt no guilt for promoting crime. If you hack and steal another exchange, the price will drop further more. Why don't you become a criminal yourself and try if the law enforcement can catch you?

Mark escaped the punishment for now, but that doesn't mean he will escape it forever. Even escaping from the law, may not escape from the God.

Oh, I forgot, low life like you may not believe in the God.

anyone could let me know whether is it a inside job?

We may never know
https://twitter.com/AdamGuerbuez/status/551862867956617216
May be nothing, but the date of the first tweet is suspect.

This further confirms my suspicion on the relationship of bears and thefts. Some bears, especially that 30K @ $300 guy, is very suspicious.
156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could someone help teaching me how to short on: January 06, 2015, 02:43:04 AM
Hi guys,

I just back from a weed grower. That guy said shorting Bitcoin can bring me a great fortune and he is doing it now. I am no IT expert, could some people teach me how to open an account and how to do the shorting thing? I am willing to learn, especially when I am high and cool.

I have a few grands and could someone calculate how much I will earn if this god damn thing goes to zero? 5 times or 20 times?

Thanks,
Martin

Lol, drug dealers are also shorting the market with illegal money. The bear army is magnificent.

You're so butthurt that you're not even making sense.

Yep, OP is retarded.

Yeah, you basher will never understand or share any insight. 574 posts/replies of garbage information? Good for you.

Grin

Dude,

You're so butthurt that you're not even making sense.

+1

this thread is made to distract from how criminal permabulls are who bought coins for under a dollar and keep telling people here to buy 'cheap coins' at these prices when the downfall of bitcoin has actually become apparent and could be single digit prices by the end of the year.

trying to tell people bears on here would be suspicious of a bitstamp hack is beyond retarded.

The criminals and scammers are the permabulls trying to sell people the story of the 'cheap coins' and how bitcoin is going to take over the world when it's clearly not.

Nice try OP

If riding with the theft makes fortune for you, then please do it. We don't want to morally blame you, because there is no bottomline on human nature.
