Also what the hell is with the unlimited supply (no cap on devcoin?)

There will be about 262.8 Billion DVC by 2113.

Assuming the price of one devcoin is $1 by that time, that's almost the value of Microsoft in 2012.

A *lot* of open source development work can happen in 100 years.

I really don't see the problem.

Anyone else having trouble connecting to the network?

I built from source, but neither the realcoind or the QT client are able to sync.

You can add node using this code:

addnode=198.211.17.160

in realcoin.conf

That worked.

I was originally using the addnode from the first post.

Thanks!

Any suggestions?

It doesn't matter, you can connect and sync with the network.

Well no, I can't, that's why I was looking at debug.log.

I have been learning about devcoin the past little while, following bitcoin for much longer, and naturally being a developer myself, planning on how best to get involved in these two communities. Mining is out of the question, no capital.

I do however have skills in software development and admire what devcoin stands for. A perfect match. I'm sure many other developers will feel the same way once they find out about devcoin.

I'm kind of impressed and amazed at how well constructed and planned out devcoin is, what with its original bitcoin base and its GroupCoin precursor. A lot of care was put into it, that's for sure.

A bit of my economic theory on devcoin:

It's not that devcoin gives developers value but actually the opposite, I think. Over time, developers will contribute to the value of devcoin. Since they contribute most of the value, they receive most of the benefits, not the miners. Truly a fair coin.

So far, my only contribution whatsoever to devcoin has been the purchase of a few on vircurex and the purchase of devcoin denominated shares on crypto::stocks, which personally I feel is a better investment than just holding coins, at this time. Whatever you do, I don't recommend trading for bitcoin (or heaven forbid paper money) at this time.

And a small suggestion to the administrators of devcoin. Either work with these guys, or let's get devcoin on there as a top giver: https://www.gittip.com/

It seems to me that their priorities are aligned with the purpose of devcoin, and it would be a great way to get more (and almost free) publicity.

Thanks for reading.

What's your story?

When bitcoin was 25 cents, I was sitting on a few thousand dollars and was considering either gold or bitcoin.

Needless to say, I didn't choose bitcoin.

Wasn't forked from an existing code base, which makes a source code audit far more time consuming.
