Had the power go out this afternoon, been running the client for the last week 24/7, no problems there. Now I was lucky today, because had just shut the client down a few hours before the power flicked out, so not asking because of an emergency, just want to be prepared...
What should one do if the client is running (WinXP) when the power fails?
Not asking about basic computer problems/solutions here, such as lost/bad clusters that might result, strictly asking about recommendations pertaining to the client software and the integrity of it's file system. Assume no transaction was in progress when the power failed, it was simply open and active at the time.
1) Should some files in the app data folder be deleted before restarting?
2) Lets say upon restart, the balance remains correct and no errors show up while re-sync, are we good to go? Should some form of validation be preformed?
3) Are there various errors that might appear, and/or recommendations on how they should be repaired, if encountered?
Thanks much, 6.2 has been working great for me...

Had no problem with Wnd purchasing a online radio program subscription for me, smooth transaction, worked great as the price was listed in EURO's, and I'm here in the US. What he does with the BTC's I sent him isn't my concern, you can find our transaction discussed in the OP thread link here.
Happy to support your efforts on getting exchanges done Wnd, would do another, if I wasn't so poor in BTC's right at the moment...

Just getting up to speed on this topic, interesting issue.
Like so many here, don't keep my client-qt running all the time anymore, did first month or so, then stopped running it unless needed, try to update everyday but not always... Summer time brings electrical storms and outages so prefer to keep the system off allot more of the time.
The problem is there is little incentive to do so. If there was a way to gain some value, like free transactions for those clients left running or some type of payout dividend. Not as much as mining, but something to support the contributors in maintaining a broad base of node participation.
Places like Australia, where upload bandwidth is charged every month on your bill, are even more discouraged to support the peer-to-peer paradigm. Agree this trend down in number of available nodes is disturbing, and will lead to making the bootstrap of newcomers even more troublesome. To bad those via Tor can't somehow be counted, be nice to have a more reviling graph of actual numbers...

Interesting deal, you might find some rounds in the mail at some point in time soon.
edit: how much will you accept at one time? i have quite a few rounds to be done away with.
Thanks for your interest fatigue. At the moment you can see I've been on a spending spree, only could trade up to 3 ounces for bitcoins. Kinda want to limit it to no more than that, on a 1st trade basis anyhow... If all turns out well, will be happy to PM with you and arrange for a trade on a larger quantity. Tonight the price based on Kitco/MtGox = 5.5614 bitcoins, plus I'll add in 0.2 x number of ounces shipped. For example with 3 that would be 16.6842 + 0.6 = 17.2842 BitCoins.... 1-3oz max per person right now, your call. PM or email me for shipping details, GR RodGround at gmail dot com

Interesting Aseras & rjk, guess it's time I figured that level of things out, compiling the source myself.
Kinda started figuring out how to answer my own questions too, will share as things come to mind...
Like for example, if I start with a blank wallet file, those private keys associated with addresses I've used (made public) in the past, are not going to be available, so if you do blow away your wallet.dat file, so goes all those connection points to your wallet and you can forget about ever receiving any coin from them ever again. Note: Assume all of this discussion pertains to the basic bitcoin-qt client.
...may need to be corrected from time to time though, a long learning curve up from reading the original paper on this stuff...

Excellent trading results with the following members...

@ShireSilver - Way cool concept, love the card & thanks for the trade!
@barbarousrelic - Same for the coin you sent me, awesome addition to my collection.

@btccomm - Great question, been trying to figure this out myself...
@Evoorhees - Did exactly that, while the local wallet was @0.00 balance, up to your step 3.
Except what happened was I lost all my address book entries, and receive addresses which are now scattered all over the place. That kinda freaked me out, as I've no idea if any of those addresses would still be linked to my wallet or what? Then it occurred to me, is this what having signed payments received at my various addresses would be good for? Just one of many questions, like would any payments in the future at those addresses always find me, no matter what? Don't think so. How do I get them to once again show up in my Receive BitCoins tab list? Can I just clear all the transaction history, but keep the received & address book entries?
To many questions, so I closed the client and restored the original file, transferred my stash back into the local wallet and been wanting to get this topic figured out!
GR
ETA: What I did was changed the display transaction tab, to just show me the last week. All the older stuff that I no longer cared about is simply not displayed.

@Keyur - Just a short one this time, I promise. Get to long winded sometimes...
Wanted to praise your operation once again, early May successfully got some BitCoins from a $150 money order. Total costs for me doing this were $1.55 + .45 (mo + stamp), plus I think your exchange fees added up to 82.5 cents. Total cost of conversion 1.89%. Very inexpensive and much appreciated. Great to see your trading volume heading up these last few days, doing what I can to spread the word and be a part of it!
For those interested in considering this option:
It took ~7 days for my funds to show up in the CampBX account, now have another transaction inbound, a smaller amount this time only $75. Expecting it to show up shortly after the long weekend (mailed yesterday), which is plenty fast IMO. The MO expense was less this time, only $1.15. Not sure why they charged $1.55 last time, could have been because I avoided the teller line, and went to the shipping supplies clerk, the USPS site lists the cost as $1.15 up to the $500 mark. Be sure to question the teller, if they try to charge more than that.
Wanted to bring this option up once again for those of us looking at BitInstant as an option, great service for what they are offering, yet for small transactions the fees are a show stopper, at least for me. Sure nice to have that convenience and speed of fiat->bitcoin conversion, yet allot of us don't have $500 laying around to drive those percentages down. Plus for me driving to Walmart involves 150 mile round trip, and all the 7-11's are out-of-state!
Keyur, the Money Order option with you, especially for those of us in the states is the best....
Keep up the good work, and Thanks Much, GR
