Bump
143  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Will work for bitcoins. on: April 13, 2011, 10:07:47 PM
Go to Amazon Mechanical Turk.  Sign up there and do some work.  Sell whatever they pay you in (Amazon credits or whatever) for Bitcoins.

I thought about writing something like mTurk but for Bitcoin instead.  Could be interesting, though I doubt many Bitcoiners are going to be willing to do the kind of mindless crap that mTurk lends itself to.
144  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin farmers market... on: April 13, 2011, 10:06:30 PM
Exactly I wouldn't worry about it at all. If he's buying a truck of produce then I might wait but even then I'd be really surprised if someone went to the trouble for produce when they could rip off something easier to dump and make a couple of bucks that won't rot in 5 days.

Anyone who is buying an entire truck load is willing to wait 10 minutes.

You could probably load up his truck with it while waiting for confirmation.  Smiley
145  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin farmers market... on: April 13, 2011, 09:42:11 PM
Yeah as soon as I wrote that it hit me. I need to pay more attention and not do 10 things at once.
Obviously the confirmation is a part of it too though. Smartphone is step 1 but then you still have to wait or take the risk.
If we have an app for ios / android we've got a lot of people covered though.

For smallish transactions, confirmation is not going to be a huge deal.  The effort required to pull off a successful double-spend means you need to have nodes spread across the network that are able to introduce two competing transactions with fairly equal coverage -- or at least the node that makes the payment to the merchant needs to be close enough to his client that he sees that one.

And usually farmers' markets and similar merchant scenarios are dealing locally, so it's not like if you did successfully pull off a double-spend that the guy wouldn't recognize you the second time and refuse to sell to you and/or report you to local authorities.

Have you tried using #bitcoin-otc yet?

Everything went smoothly, thanks for the non-shady txfr, would recommend dealing with this guy!

Ditto, not a kink.  Smiley

15.5?
149  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WANTED: Portal 2 preorder [CLOSED] on: April 13, 2011, 03:56:43 PM
Seems like this game is pretty popular, where's all the hype come from? First one was awesome?

To put it one way, I bought the game at I think 7PM one night, started playing around 9PM, and finished the game sometime around 4AM.  I've wished so many times that I could forget all about the game and play it again to experience it with a fresh mind.  I would easily call it my favorite video game, and Portal 2 is looking like it will easily live up to the standard set by the original.

BTC received, Steam gift sent.

Piggybacking on this thread, I too am willing to buy the pre-order of Portal 2 for BTC, but I want the PS3 version, and I think the best place for me to get it is at amazon uk. So I'll be wanting a £32.91 gift card, any takers? Name your price.

Do you know if USD Amazon gift cards can be redeemed on Amazon UK?  If so, I would be willing to purchase a 15 USD gift card to get you part of the way there.  (I have a VISA gift card I'm trying to exchange for BTC and this seems like the best avenue to do that.)
151  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoin farmers market... on: April 13, 2011, 03:37:30 PM
Things like a Bitcoin farmers' market would be much easier once the Bitcoin phone app (payer scans a barcode from the seller's phone and then transfers the bitcoins) are usable.

yeah but also chances of getting scammed at a farmers market are pretty low.
Honestly I'd take unconfirmed payment and not worry about double spend.
Especially if it's just a few items.
Plus I'm planing on selling farmers marketish stuff online so that's not much of a concern.

I don't think we're talking confirmed/unconfirmed here, we're just talking about making the payment at all.  In order to spend bitcoins at all you're going to need some sort of Internet-enabled device, and a smartphone would be a good choice.

BTC received, Steam gift sent.

I do not have an OTC rating but you look to be fairly reputable, and I have never been burned by a BTC scammer, so I am willing to just send you the BTC beforehand as a gesture of trust, and this is a fairly small transaction anyways.

Sounds good to me.  I will PM you an address to send the BTC to.  Please reply to that and let me know which email address you would like me to send the Steam gift to.
154  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [SELLING] Minecraft gift code on: April 13, 2011, 02:46:51 PM
Heh... 14.  Yeah, I'm getting it because my brother plays it and some aspects look neat.  I thought they were going to make it open-source at first.  Oh well.
155  Economy / Marketplace / $15 gift card for BTC? on: April 13, 2011, 11:55:30 AM
Folks,

I found a $15 VISA gift card sitting around from my motherboard mail-in rebate and was trying to think of what to do with it when I realized -- duh, Bitcoin!

Obviously I'm not going to be selling the card number directly (unless someone wants it, I suppose) but I would be willing to use it to buy a gift card to Amazon or Newegg or whatever else online.  I would prefer to deal with someone who has a highish OTC rating and/or who would be willing to use ClearCoin to send the BTC.

I am requesting the face value of the card, exchanged at whatever the mtgox ask is when we do the deal.

rezin777 and I have come to an agreement via PM.  vladimir, if you wish to offer the game I would suggest opening a new thread since this one is closed.  Smiley
158  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: [Selling service] I'll draw cool stickfigures for bitcoins on: April 13, 2011, 11:22:02 AM

My reaction upon receiving your bitcoin. Enjoy! Smiley

Ha... good thing I wasn't drinking when reading this thread.  Well done, sir, have an extra 0.5 BTC for this.  If I can come up with any good ideas I might commission something from you later.  Smiley
159  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Lending Pool Auction Experiment on: April 13, 2011, 04:46:20 AM
On another note, I really like the idea of a website that handles loans. However. You could just steal All of our money.

I think i'll wait until a super trusted user like TheMadHatter opens a service like this (or atleast has 50% control of it)

I thought of such a thing myself and would be willing to write and operate it, but as a relatively new user I doubt anyone would trust me.

EDIT: Having said that, it's not like I go to great lengths to hide my real-world identity though.  Cheesy
160  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WANTED: Portal 2 preorder on: April 13, 2011, 04:44:02 AM
Will currently pay 57BTC for portal 2 preorder (44.99USD on steam) or adjusted rates on mtgox. Would prefer to deal with someone who has successful past dealings(i.e. otc).

Do you have an OTC rating?  I would not be comfortable engaging in this transaction unless you had a positive OTC rating traceable from one of the voiced members.

(Disclosure: I don't have an OTC rating at the moment, but since you can put the BTC in escrow you are safe.)
