141  Other / Meta / Re: [HELP] Gif avatar not acceptable ? on: March 25, 2016, 01:16:05 AM
Hm. I actually noticed some users with gif avatars so I do believe they're accepted.

Animated gifs used to be allowed in the past. They are no longer. Those that have an animated gif as avatar now, have had it for a very long time.

What happened? Why aren't animated avatars allowed anymore?
Hm. Actually, I think it has something to do with how much bits are occupied. For example, when you become a newbie on this site, you're not even allowed to post pictures. I think the head of the site mentioned they didn't want newcomers posting too many photos for that reason. But still at that logic, they would have made everyone stop occupying gif avatars....

I really am not quite certain on the matter of the situation here. Perhaps the head of the website isn't realizing there's still people occupying gif avatars for some reason.

#1 The admin is theymos
#2 all avatars had been disabled for security reasons
#3 I highly doubt the forum is running out of disk space. There are simpler solutions anyway, e.g. dont store all deleted posts ever created.
#4 Newbies are no longer allowed to post pictures because some used it to spam
#5 If you no longer want animated gifs, is it fair to remove the few already established over the years?
...
So yes, it definitely has to do with the size of the gif, or maybe the ranking. Hopefully the admin will come and answer our questions.

Very simply. Animated GIFs for Avatars that exist today are left over from when they were once allowed.
At one time in the past, everyone could have animated gifs for avatars , until it was discovered to be used as an hacking attack vector.
Because of that gif attack, all animated gifs for accounts have been disabled.

Any animated gifs on avatars you see today are the originals, prior to when Theymos disabled the ability.
If you now remove your animated gif on your account, you can not get it back and will be like everyone else.

It has nothing to do with size of the gif data or ranking of the account.
Shorena is correct.

Edit: added "for Avatars" to be more clear between animated gif pictures and animated gif for avatars

If that's true, then why isn't the admin making sure those people with gif avatars don't pose for hacking attack vectors? Perhaps those users don't know this. It's quite clear the admin never made some sort of announcement if it's just not understandable to the OP. Or myself. Forgive me. I'm just somewhat confused.
142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do people around you think about Bitcoin ? on: March 25, 2016, 01:11:47 AM
For some reason my friends think its untrustworthy and shady. Not sure why.
It would definitely have to do with the media portraying the currency as untrustworthy.
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do people around you think about Bitcoin ? on: March 25, 2016, 01:09:57 AM
A majority of people I know honestly think Bitcoin is fake money/video game money. They truly believe it cannot be held or sold. They think mentally dangerous humans occupy it to do very illegal activities such as drug purchasing, drug selling, weapon purchasing, weapon selling, prostitution, all types of really degrading other things you can think of for work and so on. Not one person around me respects Bitcoin. Truth is, they have never even used it so why insult something before trying it?
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what happens to Bitcoin if internet goes down? on: March 25, 2016, 01:06:16 AM
Probably in person trades would be more likely. The issue with that is that I've never seen a physical Bitcoin in my entire life. I've always assumed Bitcoin never had physical coins for monetary worth. Does anything have a real authentic photo of a real Bitcoin?
145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you honestly think Bitcoin toys would help us?! on: March 25, 2016, 12:57:55 AM
Its a very good idea to introduce bitcoins to the Kids. But before that kids should need proper guidance.
They should be taught of the uses of bitcoins and where to use them and not to invest them in gambling etc.
It is the responsibility of the Such toys companies that they should create awareness among parents and kids before being actually creating this.
I wouldn't say it's the company's responsibility as much as it is the parents' responsibility. It's almost like attempting to blame graphic videos for the influence it has on your child because you as a parent accidentally left it out for your kid to see it, or you let them have a computer with free range internet access to look up content like that.
146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you honestly think Bitcoin toys would help us?! on: March 25, 2016, 12:54:39 AM
I struggle to think of a (hands-on, physical) toy that would be cheap enough to be realistic, but somehow teach about bitcoin specifically. I think a better approach would be child-oriented software (Android, Windows, etc.) that teaches about cryptocurrency.

I think there is a lot of room for this kind of activity, for any creative programmers out there. I've been interested in Piggycoin and used it to pay my kids on occasion for the past year, but even Piggycoin with its explicit focus on children, has little to show so far in the way of child-centric aps and games. They have a decent website that helps introduce kids to crypto, but even there, a lot more could be done. Someone could create child-centric websites for bitcoin too, but I've never heard of one.
May I ask why you're paying your children? Do you make them work for you or something, or are you trying to say you give them an allowance?

Apart from that, yeah. Bitcoin child oriented software would be nice. There could be little online games as well to connect the children with other children online to cross-spread information they've gathered. Sounds great.
147  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can we make bitcoin's price only RISE and never FALL? on: March 25, 2016, 12:38:30 AM
We actually can't do that and aslo it's so useless. Firstly people holding bitcoins for price increase and buying bitcoins when price is low. Secondly price depends on fiat anyway.

Hi,  thats something which is not possible. The price of a currency cannot always go up and never drops. Bitcoin price may go up sometimes and then down but the thing that can be controlled is that we dont let it drop too low. The balance between demand and supply can ensure this.
I say dropping is fine as long as it is not too low as you mentioned. I think that's what we're looking for in this thread.
My thoughts exactly. I know I came off as if I always wanted it to grow. But let's be realistic, that could never happen. What I meant to say was that I want it to grow more often.
148  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: March 25, 2016, 12:32:31 AM
People are always moaning about the amount of coins they would have to donate to become a 'Donator' or 'VIP'.
Yeah some members donated 10 & 50 bitcoin's back when the price was a lot lower.

Who cares though?

It's just the way it is, nobody is begging you to donate anything now.
It's not about if they're asking or not. It's more about the equal opportunity scale. Back then, you had to donate $10 to be a donator. Now you have to donate $4000.

My point that I'm attempting to convey is that there still are people with gif avatars. That's why in my mind I genuinely believed having a gif avatar was acceptable. For somebody to say they're having trouble uploading one makes me believe either they have to be a certain rank, or perhaps the gif size is much too large. Either that, or the head doesn't know gif avatars still exist. I see them all the time. That must simply mean the head isn't aware. If newcomers cannot use gifs as avatars, veterans can't either because it's simply just not fair.

So yes, it definitely has to do with the size of the gif, or maybe the ranking. Hopefully the admin will come and answer our questions.
150  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can we make bitcoin's price only RISE and never FALL? on: March 23, 2016, 04:57:25 PM
Well we know its always depends in demands and supply if you just want to rise and there's no fall why don't you try to buy bitcoin every time around 200 btc a day i think you can control the price and the price will continous increasing..
I am starting to realize that it just might be a little bit more complicated than that but do you mind possibly giving some more incite? I do believe you're onto something here. We just need to break it down and understand each element better to really focus and make it reality.
151  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can we make bitcoin's price only RISE and never FALL? on: March 23, 2016, 04:53:53 PM
Aside from the demand scene, remove other alts so the exchange will only focus on bitcoin trades.

But this is impossible. So better forget about it. Smiley
It is possible. We just need to really focus instead of just giving up before we've even tried. This thread is for brainstorming behind the idea and I do strongly believe if you're just going to say it can't be done then perhaps not even mentioning anything would be accepted. If you give a more detailed explanation, we can break it down from there and see what can be done.
152  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can we make bitcoin's price only RISE and never FALL? on: March 23, 2016, 04:51:57 PM
Your complaining about small Bitcoin liquidity, thus stability. You need more people to actively buying/selling Bitcoins at exchanges (and have set buy or sell orders) to get much more stable prices. This has nothing to do with bitcoin's price only rise and never fall though, the rises and falls would be only much slower if at exchanges are more buy and sell orders...
If we need more people basically working and trading Bitcoin, then we will have to find a way to actually advertise this currency for a while. If you cannot simply just find some kind of way to inform the masses and get them to actually try our currency, we may not be able to make this idea a success. How do you suggest we advertise Bitcoin at least?

Definitively not advertising like TV ads and so on, it must be mouth to mouth advertising wih very well, secure and reliably working payment method, not speculative get rich advertising.

With hardware wallets you can already get the most secure payment method today beating CC, paypal, online banking - far better than 2fa with phone or email. Reliability needs more confidence transactions get confirmed in timely fashion which become problem currently, but scaling is in the work.

But biggest point using Bitcoin is no else can confiscate your funds, if you ever received paypal money and later the ballance was removed becuse it come from stollen account you know what Im talking about, the same can happen at your bank account, but not with Bitcoin.
I don't know how effective the speaking to friends about Bitcoin situation would be as it would only advertise to a couple thousands of people a year. It's evident that we would need to find a way to really effect large groups of people with Bitcoin and not just a few. Bitcoin should have been a higher price than it is right now but because nobody has ever really advertised the project, it's not 100% off the ground and that's what I think should be understood.
153  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can we make bitcoin's price only RISE and never FALL? on: March 23, 2016, 04:46:45 PM
you can't controll the bitcoin user, people will have the ultimate control over their bitcoin, simply when the supply is higher than Demand the price will be fall, when the demand is higher than supply the price will be rise
Of course we cannot control them per say but I do believe if we made actually posted buying and selling dates, we could create a stable way to make Bitcoin more of a success in terms of actually making it a stable way to earn a living.
154  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can we make bitcoin's price only RISE and never FALL? on: March 23, 2016, 04:35:53 PM
As long as people need to do things like pay rent, pay mortgages and pay taxes, in fiat, there will be sellers of bitcoin.

That's the way it is. Work on getting your local govt to accept bitcoin payments for taxes if you want to prevent sellers.
I think it'd actually be just a little bit more complicated than that. We'll need more information about how to go about that.

Oh. It was my understanding that they were still being accepted. I'm sorry OP. Perhaps speaking to a moderator like I suggested is a good idea. It's not fair for them to have gif avatars and not the newcomers.
157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you honestly think Bitcoin toys would help us?! on: March 23, 2016, 04:22:26 PM
Bitcoin toys? Funny idea. Not sure how clever this is, children shouldn't be focused only on material things and these days they mostly are from their early age.
Children love toys and genuinely appreciate them and have learned from them so I don't know why you feel that way. Don't get me wrong. I actually wasn't warming up to this idea too much but if it seems like most of the people in this thread are on board, I say we find a way to make it happen. Anyway to educate the masses of this cryptocurrency is fine.
158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you honestly think Bitcoin toys would help us?! on: March 23, 2016, 04:19:31 PM
The biggest problem would be finding a company that is willing to mass produce these types of toys. You still need to sell them somehow to people, and kids usually want "cool" toys, or toys that their friends also have.

Bitcoin is not cool to have as a toy yet, as hardly anybody knows it and hardly any kid will have toys of it. This can really take off once bitcoin grows more popular, but until then, the market is probably too small.

The piggybank on kickstarter is really cool though. Smart parents can still buy it for their kids as it is not a toy but rather a way to get them saving some cash (in a potentially very lucerative way!).
yeah but what exactly would you ever consider to be a "cool" toy? That would honestly be based on problems and beliefs in what is actually a cool toy and not. We're not even really focusing too much on that because we can actually walk up to children and ask them on their opinions on what kind of toys they'd actually play with. From there, we find a way to incorporate that with an education purpose behind BTC.
159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin unsafe? It only takes 2 seconds to place a bank card skimmer on an ATM.. on: March 23, 2016, 04:14:11 PM
Money in general will always have the potential to be hacked/stolen so that's just a risk you take for trying to make a living.
160  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can we make bitcoin's price only RISE and never FALL? on: March 23, 2016, 04:12:00 PM
To make Bitcoin's price rise and never fall it comes down to adoption.  More users means more upward stable price.  Education and more press will increase adoption.
It is based on how many people know about it yes, but it's also based on when people are holding it an when they're not. There has to be a set "pumo and dump" schedule as a method to grow your Bitcoin and then sell then. Then of course there's the whole restarting positions to take.
Yeah but how do you suggest we go about that? You have to actually give and take with this idea and not simply just give the idea and then not suggest ways of going about it. (Not to say your contribution to this thread is not respected nor appreciated).
