145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any suggestions for an online wallet? on: February 26, 2013, 12:35:56 AM
I'd like to store a portion of my accumulated bitcoins within one or more online wallets. I'm currently looking at Coinbase as an option. My short term goal is to intentionally diversify my online wallet(s). Specifically, I'd like to use ones that have an accessible API and a solid reputation. Or at least as solid as can be. It is easy enough to Google for them, but I'm having a hard time pinpointing the reputable ones.

i got blockchain and coinbase...you may want to check these 2 threads that helped me decide:

146  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do the exchanges work? on: February 25, 2013, 10:37:12 PM
yeah not getting confirmations...

Most likely low priority transactions:

  • Using coins that haven't aged yet.
  • Transferring extremely small amounts (less than 0.01 BTC).
  • Transactions that have an unusually large number of inputs or outputs resulting in a transaction that requires more than 10,000 bytes.

And not paying enough of a fee for miners to consider it.

Many wallets will warn you if a fee is recommended.  What wallet are you using?

coinbase

thanks guys! do u know how long it takes?

Sending and receiving bitcoin takes less than a few seconds.  It can take anywhere from a few more seconds to several days for those transactions to be confirmed depending on the fee you include and how soon a miner includes the transaction in a block.

Setting up a blockchain.info wallet should take less than two-and-a-half minutes (as you can see in the video).

cool.. thanks much Smiley

what's the fastest wallet I can use to send and receive btc? i juz started and receiving takes 3 or more days???

The wallets are all the same speed when sending and receiving bitcoin.  If you want transactions to confirm faster, the sender needs to include a transaction fee.  All of the well known and used wallets provide a method for a sender to pay a fee.

No matter which wallet you are using you should see the bitcoin transferred within a few seconds, but they will have 0 confirmations until a miner includes them in a block.

Are you saying that they aren't transferring. or just that they aren't getting any confirmations?

yeah not getting confirmations...

I'm not sure if something is wrong - the "total time logged in" shows 5 hours and 16 minutes, so I assume I met the four hour requirement, but perhaps they count something else and not the "total time logged in" that the forum displays.

what is the 4 hours then??? i thought that was it... sigh

Not sure - patience I guess Smiley

i hope they give out BTC for patience too ahahahah
