We have less than 5 days until the Belacoin halvening. Join our slack at Belacoin.herokuapp.com to get more updates and a heads up on any giveaways that we'll be doing.

In approximately 8 days, we have the Belacoin halvening. The halvening is when the block reward for Belacoin drops from 50 BELA per block to 25 BELA per block.

What does this mean?

• Miners: Each block of Belacoin that is found will reward only 25 Belacoin from now on
• Regular Users: The inflation rate of Belacoin is greatly reduced. With a smaller block reward, it will now takes an average of 4 minutes for 50 BELA to be put into the system whereas currently, the supply increases by 50 BELA every 2 minutes on average.

We'll be celebrating the halvening a lot in our slack at http://Belacoin.herokuapp.com through giveaways and other festivities. Our team is currently planning an online hackathon that should launch on the date of the Halvening, provided that there is enough interest in this. Entries would be Belacoin-based projects.

Is it the Halving or the Halvening?
Both terms mean the same thing. We like to call it the halvening, but autocorrect likes to change it to the halving. If you catch us using both terms,  

Is it synced up now? When you don't have your wallet open for a while, it needs to catch up to the most recent blocks. At the current hashrate on Minebela.com, the first block should be found sometime in the next 19 days. Of course, as the pool grows and the hash rate increases, we should be finding blocks much more frequently. If the hash rate increases by 100x, we should be finding multiple blocks each day.

You can only get BELA when the mining pool finds a block, and all the miners share the block reward (currently 50 Belacoin) based on how much mining power each miner contributes. To increase your mining power, you should purchase a scrypt hardware miner. There are many different kinds that vary in power from 500 KH/s to more than 1GH/s. At 1GH/s, you should be mining a couple of blocks each day.

Also, if you have a scrypt hardware miner, hook it up to our pool! We are maintaining this pool, so fees go back towards supporting the coin that you're mining, making it better.

Belacam is where we make our money. Unlike you, The Ambia Fund doesn't earn anything when Belacoin's price doubles. Therefore, we are taking as much time as needed to make Belacam Gamma as great as we want it to be. Please keep in mind that Belacam Gamma is a private business, separate from the Belacoin currency.

DGW is doing it's job, it seems that the current issue is that there is now 1 large miner or mining pool who has a large portion of the power, and when he disconnects, it leaves all of the other small miners with a large difficulty. Dark Gravity Wave does decrease this though, as we can see the difficulty does not jump anymore but rather increases more slowly.

The solution to this is for us to get more miners. Now that DGW is activated, mining is more fair, and we should be able to encourage more miners this way. We are also working on a mining pool that we will maintain to increase the amount of miners on Belacoin.

While we wait on some other developments (Belacam Gamma, dedicated Belacoin mining pool, Coinomi's desktop wallet, a Belacoin web wallet, and more), we need to have a little fun to pass the time. It may take a few days for us to start noticing the effects of Dark Gravity Wave on a steady basis. There may still be some pauses in the blockchain, but that is because everything still needs to sync up. The past few days have been very volatile in terms of finding blocks, and the blockchain reworks the difficulty so that blocks are still found every 2 minutes on average. Since the last few days had fewer-than-average blocks found, the next few days will likely still experience quick successions of blocks being found followed by pauses, although these should get much less frequent as time passes.

Both Poloniex and Coinomi have updated their Belacoin wallets and are ready for the hard fork in just 4 days. You should be safe storing both of your coins on there through the hard fork.

Coinomi's wallet has a much better interface than our desktop wallet, so it's probably easier to use. When you have the Belacoin desktop wallet, you are in control of your own funds though. Holding coins on Coinomi is somewhat similar to holding Bitcoin on Coinbase: it's pretty secure, but the most secure method is a Belacoin desktop wallet.

There's also a Belacoin web wallet in works, thanks to a community member. When that comes out, the same thing goes. It will be much easier to use than our current desktop wallet, but your funds are stored on a different centralized server.

Just in now from Coinomi: Belacoin will also be included in Coinomi Desktop Wallets for Windows, Linux and MacOS which are about to be released

That's great news! Coinomi is one of the largest multiwallets out there. Currently, they're only available on the Android app store. Desktop wallets are a great thing.

We're talked about Belacam Gamma a lot in our Slack (Belacoin.herokuapp.org), but much of it is still in work. Right now, our team is adding new features and overhauling the design. Belacam Beta proved the business concept (51% of photos get likes), so Belacam Gamma is more focused on getting the site scalable and beginning to branch out beyond just cryptocurrency users.

In short, Belacam Gamma looks and works a lot more like a real social media site. New features include cover photos, a smarter feed algorithm, USD balance estimates, trending hashtags, and more. Beyond that, almost every single feature that currently exists in Beta has gotten an upgrade. The lightbox is enhanced, you can edit your bio, cover photo, and profile pic directly from your user page, and uploading has been made much easier. We've posted screenshots on Belacoin's twitter account and in our Slack, but we're holding off on really promoting it well until we're almost ready to go.
