141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are the main points of gambling? on: May 09, 2024, 06:36:22 PM
lol or how about some people just gamble for fun? I really wonder if the majority of people who participate in this board really are the gambling degenerates that it seems many are made out to be.  Why does everything spoken about on this website have to do with "making profits".  There's more to bitcoin as well as gambling than "making profits".

The main point of gambling should be to have fun.
142  Economy / Economics / Re: Your aging and retirement plan is your responsibility. on: May 08, 2024, 02:47:42 PM
As a financial planner this is something that I discuss with my clients in a daily basis, and what you’ve said here is so very true.

I tell most of my clients to invest as if Social Security wasn’t going to be there. This is some thing I fully believe myself, as I don’t trust the federal government and far as I could throw the whole lot of them tied together. Anything past was I personally save is a bonus.
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ETF good or bad? on: May 08, 2024, 02:44:33 PM
It’s both good and bad in my opinion. On one hand it’s absolutely propping up the value of Bitcoin , which is really not something that’s even debatable.

On the other hand, it does give big fund giants a bit of control over price changes or the “network” for lack of better terms.
144  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between females and males, who are more resistant to gambling losses?  on: May 08, 2024, 02:42:31 PM
As an FA I find that on average women tend to be a little more prone to being reserved and smart with their money over men. Now there’s plenty of women gambling addicts (just like there is for men) but overall this is just what I see in my line of work. Plus of got text groups of guys and girls and in the boys chat, we talk about placing bets almost daily.
145  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: May 08, 2024, 02:40:08 PM
These all seem like they might be pretty decent series. The one that intrigues me most is the Knicks versus the Pacers series. I’m a big fan of Tom Thibs as when he coached for the Chicago Bulls he took them to heights they hadn’t seen in quite a while so I’m always just rooting for him (and I feel the Bulls front office pushed him out).
146  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people lose in gambling and still go ahead and bet more? on: May 08, 2024, 02:36:22 PM
Well sounds like your friend had a gambling addiction and the only way to help him is to get him to understand and recognize this.  Why people continue to gamble even after continuous losses is that they are simply hooked and that’s also how they see recouping their losses. So it can’t become a vicious cycle that’s quite unfortunate .
147  Economy / Collectibles / Upcoming Collectibles Charity Auction- Ideas ? on: May 06, 2024, 04:30:08 AM
I’ve ran several charity auctions on here in years past and had a great level of success thanks to an awesome community. My plan was to run at least 1 a year. I’ve slacked of late so it’s time.

I wanted to ask what charities / causes would you like to see represented? Personally I typically donate to animal charities (WWF,Haven Bee conservation (ran by Kialara’s brother,  Sea Shepherd etc).  Of course participation is more than welcome…

Thoughts ?
148  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Air-tites.com -the way to go for coin protection on: May 06, 2024, 02:12:25 AM

Ah yes, those def allow for air to seep.  Should never be too easy to open.
149  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Air-tites.com -the way to go for coin protection on: May 06, 2024, 12:54:29 AM
I've noticed toning on coins kept in capsules that use a half moon shaped finger hold on the side. Used in order to be able to open the capsule easier. Very frustrating to have coins tone that you don't want too. Especially because cleaning them is even worse. I feel your anger.

Mind sharing an example?

Here’s some others. The Mohawk Iron workers coins are indeed in hard capsules from the U.S. Mint, the Ruthenium Panda from Golden Enigma, and the Star Wars Bars from the NZ Mint (which is not the same as the NZ Post (tho maybe they mint the coins for the NZ Post?). From what I can tell so far the NZ Mint (not NZ Post) coin capsules have held up. But I have to check my collection which is all over the place, and will update in the coming weeks. I couldn’t bare and look at what else I have near by. Some of these took years to tone too. Again, alway in climate controlled environments, I’m anal about this.

These aren’t easy to see cuz I’m a shit photographer but bottom and top corners starting to tone. These are both in capsules and wrapped in magnetic plastic cases too.

Bought a box of these, maybe 40 in total. Some toned a little, some a lot, some not at all.
150  Economy / Collectibles / Air-tites.com -the way to go for coin protection on: May 05, 2024, 11:53:11 PM
I posted a year or two ago (I think I deleted it out of embarrassment but believe before doing so I had mentioned the mistake I made) as I had completed a 30 coin set of 1998 MLB Fine Silver Pinnacle Mint coins. A buddy I met on eBay years back and I teamed up to help each other collect these as they are very rare. Anyways he found a granddaughter of a Pinnacle/Donruss/Leaf exec who passed and had left coins to her. We were able to do the impossible and complete our sets thanks to her. He worked the deal out and even bought capsules and everything (I showed him where to get them, what size and what rings he needed years back). I assumed he used air-tites.com (as I told him to only use them).  Few months later under climate control the entire time, some started to slightly tone. Furious, I pressed him on where he got them. He said air-tites but when he sent the link it was some other company.

Anyways I’m finding more examples, all which have been in climate controlled environments their entire lives once they reach me. Yall will prob hate these but I like gaudy coins (I know LesbianCow will really love these though ).. I’m not sure if the German mint BH Mayers Kunstprageanstalt GmbH provide the capsules or not, but either way if you have anything from them, move your coins to air-tites.com capsules. These are expensive coins and once again just furious. What’s odd is just the rims toning on the “Masterpieces of Art” coins.

I’m going to check on some other coins from mints around the word and see if there’s others using half ass capsules. I’m sure there’s other good companies that provide good capsules but I know for a fact air-tites.com is aces, nothing I’ve ever had of theirs has allowed toning, they have great products and customer service is A+. Of course nothing beats a slab.

Just a friendly heads up.
151  Other / Meta / Re: [Script] Imgur to TalkImg - automatically fix your broken images on: May 05, 2024, 11:04:23 AM
I know some will be quite shocked, but I finally tried to run this, and uhh , coming up short...story of my life.

I read at least 6-7 articles on how to properly run a script, but not one explained how on a 1990's AOL Script Kiddie level of savy..thats more my speed.  Read through this thread best as I could (it's late, bout to east a snack and pass the f out).

I would post the exact errors but I dunno if by providing exposing anything I shouldn't.. but top error "Uncaught type error: Fail to execute"  then a second warning telling me I'm an idiot and not to post code I don't understand...They pegged me dead on there.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!  I have quite a few topics I worked hard on that need to img fixed and would sldo benefit those down the road to stay looking nice (here's what I tried to work on- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5174217.0 ).  Sorry for being a dumbass ya'll.  cheers-ty

Had more to write,.just fell asleep doing it..all for now..thanks my friends for any guidance!
152  Economy / Economics / Re: How safe is it to keep your money and gold underground? on: May 03, 2024, 08:39:19 PM
Any Parks and Rec's fan ( an NBC television show that is very popular in the United States) would know that this is a very smart idea because this is what Ron Swanson does with his gold, or does he?  Cheesy

Truthfully , or seriously this can be a good and bad thing.  It all depends on how you do this.  There are smart ways to do this, and there are dumb ways of going about this.  One thing to keep in mind, and money just "sitting on the sidelines"  means that it's just sitting stagnant and getting beat down by inflation, so that will play a large role.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Edward Snowden Final Warning for Bitcoin on: May 03, 2024, 08:35:34 PM
lol what the fuck is he going to do.  What "final warning"?  I was and am still in large part on his side for what he did in exposing the governments surveillance tactics and what not, but the more I listen to this guy talk, the more I realize how full of shit he is and how little he actually knows about a lot of these topics that he's constantly harping about.

Not to mention, aren't there other countries he could have chosen over Russia?  I'm not a fan.
154  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Never gamble in front of your kids. on: May 03, 2024, 08:32:01 PM
Absolutely, gambling in front of children can send mixed messages about responsible behaviour and may lead to normalization or desensitization to gambling-related activities. Additionally, exposing children to gambling at a young age can increase the likelihood of developing gambling-related problems later in life. Parents and caregivers need to set a positive example by engaging in responsible behaviours and discussing the potential risks and consequences of gambling with their children in an age-appropriate manner. Creating a supportive and healthy environment is crucial for fostering positive attitudes and behaviours surrounding gambling and other potentially addictive activities.

Nah, disagree all around.  My father gambled in front of me for as far back as I can remember.  My parents would often take us (my brother and myself) on a trip to a casino that was a couple hours away.  Half of the casino was adult gambling games, the other half was an arcade for kids.  What my father didn't do was encourage me to gamble, taught me right from wrong when it came to gambling and how old you need to be etc.

If you raise your children properly, this really isn't a big deal what so ever.
155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: May 03, 2024, 08:28:40 PM
It all depends on your relationship with this family member.  Is it a brother or sister, or perhaps a mother or father? There's obviously going to be a big difference in how you would handle these types of situations depending on your exact relationship with the "addict".  An important thing to remember is that many people will be unwilling to change their ways until they hit "rock bottom".  Just something to always keep in mind.
156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which device do you prefer for gambling ? on: May 03, 2024, 08:25:38 PM
For me it's all about mobility.  I've got a desktop, a couple laptops, tablets and other devices but the majority of my time spent online is time spent on my cell/mobile phone.  Often times mobile versions of website tend to be watered down and not as good as the desktop version, but of the few online casino sits I use, they are actually just about as good as their desktop version, and to me that's super important.
157  Economy / Economics / Agents of Chaos- HBO Series on: May 02, 2024, 06:00:21 PM
If you haven't yet seen Agents of Chaos, a HBO documentary that details some crazy stuff about Russia and how they use these "agents of chaos" to interfere in elections, and essentially try and change/impact (in a negative manner) countries economies, namely the United States.  It's flat out proof and quite mind blowing to be honest.

I HIGHLY recommend you check it out.  Here's a link to the Website- https://www.hbo.com/agents-of-chaos

This type of stuff can have major impacts on the global economy.

Have you seen it yet, what do you think?
158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is you research process for events like bitcoin halving ? on: May 02, 2024, 05:56:33 PM
The first thing I ever did was read Mastering Bitcoin by Andreas Antonopoulos.  In my opinion he's the greatest bitcoin teacher of all time.  Bitcoin owes him a great deal of gratitude. He also has other books such as "The internet of Money".

His YouTube account is great as well  https://www.youtube.com/@aantonop .  This is how I learned about the halving and so many other details of bitcoin.  Trust me when I say if you haven't heard of him or viewed his content, DO SO.  He is not some simple YouTuber who doesn't understand cryptography and promotes shitcoins for kick backs..he's the real deal!
159  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A lot of gambling sites are scams ! on: May 02, 2024, 05:52:41 PM
It's amazing how many gambling sites out there are scams, and how many of them at one point seem to be legitamate, but and up turning in to scams.

I have to admit that one of the sites I still use is Bovada, which I guess has ties to Calvin Ayres (maybe Craig Wright too?) but they use to be called "Bodog" and heard that it was a scam.  I need to look further in to this, but curious if anyone else has?
160  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does gambling excites you ? on: May 02, 2024, 05:49:39 PM
These threads crack me up, and I know Hilarious just loves them lol.  I wouldn't normally reply to this thread but I have to say as I don't know if it's that obvious (as it should be) but if gambling does not excite you, you likely should not be gambling.  For me it's fun, exciting and gives me something to do entertainment wise.  I don't let it get me down and that's the problem I see a lot of people haing.
