This seems like a repeat from this past July. ALTs got destroyed all month until the split on August 1st finished. After the split ALTs had a strong move up until the Exchange ban in China in September. Like any investing, it is good to be diversified. Keep some in BTC, and pick up some good/strong ALTs.

There used to be a formula you could follow to have a good chance at making money right after an ICO finishes, but that seems to not be the case anymore.
Does anyone watch exchanges and buy as soon as a new one is listed to ride that initial pump instead of locking up money prior?

If you look at the past 2 BTC forks, there is a run-up of Bitcoin's price right before the split. There has also been a major drop in Alt coins. While past events don't guarantee future performance, my money is on another run-up before this next fork. ICOs have also been performing terribly. Look at the recent Request ICO, which had massive hype. AirSwap and Mercury Protocol were 2 others. Yes, some ICOs are still profitable, but you will need to invest a lot of time to find them!
