141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Getting Started -Bellacoin on: May 12, 2017, 10:12:54 AM
depends what you computers are like and the hashrates they get, my experience of laptops and mining is bad, they just dont get the hashrates of a desktop equivalent and suffer a lot more from heat problems and throttling especially when its running at 100%. Bellacoin might be a good investment, supposedly a big investor is joining, though i think the meeting has been cancelled a few times so not sure if its true, also bellacoinv2 getting released soon, so either something might come of this coin, or its just getting pumped for a big dump coming up. Also have a check on zcoin and the mtp algo they are releasing in the next month, its going to favor cpu's and ram over gpu's and asics so you might be able to mine a worthwhile amount, or at least more than your electricity cost.
142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Need some advice on building a home Mining setup on: May 12, 2017, 09:54:45 AM
Hi All, i was wanting to get a bit more advice before i take the plunge and invest in a home mining setup. I've been mining for a few years, mainly ethereum, xmr, and zcoin just on my gaming rigs over the years and have saved up a few thousand pounds. I'm now looking at setting up my home mining operation but really torn between a couple of gpu mining rigs, or waiting and investing in a few of the bitmain l3+ that are due to get shipped at the end of july. I was just wandering whats the most popular for you guys at home? The l3+ will produce a lot better profits for scrypt mining at 500mh, but will be stuck on scrypt and if the currency im mining switches algos im effectively left with a few £1k paperweights, if i go for the gpu rig i have the ability to mine pretty much any currency just with a lot lower rate.

On a further note i have read a lot of complaints about bitmain recently and the quality of the products they have sent out, anything broken often taking over a month to replace with them being situated in china which would have a big effect on any profits, any gpu rig i build will be from amazon or ebuyer so anything broken will be easier and quicker to replace. But also the problems people have been getting more than 5 amd 570/580 working together, and having to flash them back to 470 drivers, but im guessing this will get worked out over the next month or two with new drivers and updates from amd, so probably july also before the 6 gpu rigs are running stable and at their full potential.

I'm just looking into mining alt currencies and not bitcoin as i don't think i will have the money to buy enough hardware to compete with any of the current mining operations, i also get pretty cheap electricity at the minute and only paying 7pkwh plus a large credit on my account due to a mistake they made so for the next year should work out around 5pkwh probably a little cheaper.

So the question, whats the preferred option for you guys at home doing this? will anyone be making the investment on the bitmain l3+ or sticking to gpu rigs?

Is the wallet working? Stuck on 27 weeks!
sometimes it does get stuck, i found just closing and re-opening, or the post above to re-index should get it working

Why i cant sync my wallet? It always gets stuck at block 3518  Huh
How long has it been stuck there for? my wallet on the first sync seems to be varying in speed quite a bit, took me 5 days to get to 16 weeks, then it corrupted during a power cut, started again then it synced down to 4 weeks within 20 hours and has been going slow again from there, going about 1 block an hour atm, then will speed up again in a few hours, seems very random.

how to mine Huh
have a look on the zcoin official site, has the miners and guide for solo mining or pool mining depending on the hash rate you can offer

I was wandering if any others are having problems syncing the wallet for the first time? mine has been syncing non stop for around 5-6 days now and not even halfway through, started at 26 weeks behind, and about 100+ hours later has only got as far as 14 weeks behind, even syncing with the full bitcoin block chain that is years old is able to sync within 5 days, am i missing something or doing something wrong with this wallet, it's the official wallet from zcoin.io that i downloaded, should i just keep this one and wait about another 10 days of being on 24 hours a day to sync? or is there a different wallet that i will be able to use?
Just have to wait, the first synch always takes a long time.
Thanks for getting back to me, ill just leave it to run its course then, was just worrying i had missed something that was slowing my sync down
-------------------

Well it couldnt have gone worse for me, had a power cut and the sync became corupted and has to reindex the blocks, back to 27 weeks  Grin
