1401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Only have enough $$ to buy one mining rig... SHA-256 vs Scrypt Mining?! on: April 09, 2016, 07:48:26 AM
There are a few merchants that take Litecoin, but it's nowhere near the adoption of Bitcoin - NOTHING else is anywhere near the adoption rate of Bitcoin.
Doge used to have a few merchants that took it, but I don't know if they still do since Doge went the merged-mine road.

*snip about litecoin

And I always thought Litecoin had a good chance.  If you ever get the chance to hear a talk from it's creator I highly suggest going, it's been a few years since I heard him speak but he really did a lot to make Litecoin fair and a good long term bet.

I thought when he got a Coinbase job ( i believe it was) that we would see something new with Litecoin and prices jump.... but never happened.   I have played with alts for a long time at this point it's hard to convince me long term on alts.  I like to stick to BTC after playing with them for a while.  You see some go up... and down.   None seem to ever take long term traction.
1402  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BW 14nm Miners Update on: April 09, 2016, 07:43:48 AM
so what are the specs, if they have already sold them out, they should release the consumption per hash at least, are those new device able to reach 2x in efficiency liek the s7 vs the s5?

They have not released this on the ones that are "sold out".  The original ones were next gen chips, but around S7/A6 specced on efficiency.  They fell pretty short but were a new NM which is still impressive.

These could be a lot closer to the B series announced specs from long ago as they have had a month or so.  We likely will not know though with internal use and big buyers getting them, unless a big buyer sells a few.
1403  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: So just how hard is it to get BitMain to fix warrenty repair? on: April 09, 2016, 12:41:48 AM
without voiding the warranty you ARE however allowed to swap the controller cables around to verify a cable or socket isn't bad. It probably be something they will ask you to do so try it ahead of time to save on playing email ping-pong before they issue an RMA.

Technically they pretty much have it where you cannot do anything with current policy.  I know people do try things such as this without contact.  But they have pretty vague terms:

Customer removes/replaces any components by himself without receiving permission from Bitmain first

They have never not accepted RMA due to changing cables that I know of.  But "componet" being removed could cover just about any physical change.  Full warranty is here: https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201603310959482268cfunbq106E5  I'm not saying it's a good thing as I love to tinker.  But they have a very vague warranty at this point that could be read many way's with it being vague.
1404  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie limit for private messages on: April 09, 2016, 12:33:05 AM
Why this limit is still active the posting 360s/post I understand to avoid any spam, but why does it still need to be 5 private message per hour let's say you doing some deal via private message it's just annoying for the newbie.
If this have been discussed before, sorry for this

If someone is a newbie status and dealing with more the 5 per hour sadly in most cases there is a scam/spam reason.   Newbie accounts are used for many things that are not good for the forums.  One of best features added to deal with PM's and newbies is the red warning when dealing with them, as so many where trying to pretend to be other users with a close username and scam.

If your dealing with a newbie and need more then 5 PM's per hour (that is very rare).  But if it is I suggest you use skype or some other means as communication.  As this is a good thing for almost all cases on posting limit.

Not sure I would go that far.

Doesn't have much choice if served with a subpoena.

Unless he wants to sit in jail and I don't think he likes anyone here that much!

I'm surprised this thread has went this long.  The fact that the site remains up shows it is willing to work with authorities.  If they did not on a site this size it most likely would be taken down.

And as mentioned with BFL with sharing info I think some of working with authorities is good.  It can help some members in certain cases.
1406  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: So just how hard is it to get BitMain to fix warrenty repair? on: April 09, 2016, 12:23:35 AM
So I get a S7,  runs great for 2 days. Then BAM, HW error rate jumps.  Blade 1 and 2 now pretty much dead.  Blade 3 running great! 1.5th easy.

Blade 1 and 2:

If i connect them each individually they show many failed chips and barely hash, around 22g or less.

So I see that I need to open a ticket and pray that they will respond and maybe help me?

Is that what I have been reading...

Any helpful hints with dealing with them would help!

My helpful advice is don't try to do anything physically to them, basically opening anything voids warranty.     Assuming this is a new one from bitmain send the order info and problem in email and ask for a RMA.

Just to be sure what PSU are you using for your S7?  (making sure it has proper power).   Also out of curiosity is it a new one fan with having it only 2 days?
1407  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Apr 1 to Apr 15? picks are open.... prize = 0.1 btc on: April 09, 2016, 12:16:42 AM
Looking at 1 week price is a little disappointing.  - http://www.coindesk.com/price/ Were around 418 or so, so lost around 5 dollars or so from the high of the difficulty period.

So not a huge loss, but also not the direction we want to go.  Difficulty is not a horrible change so that is good news so far. Would have liked less but last period of under 1 percent made me pretty happy so hard to argue if we stay under 5 percent this time.
1408  Economy / Services / Re: Seeking Advice on: April 08, 2016, 09:15:03 PM
We are seeking individuals WHO are extremely knowledgeable in all areas of bitcoin mining.

We have bitcoin mining experience, but wish to obtain outside perspective on our project and goals, to avoid the pitfalls of so many.

If you have experience with ASIC design, PC Board Design, Controller, and/or software experience for monitoring miner(s), please contact us.

We/You may need to discuss confidential information, inasmuch as both parties would benefit from a mutual NDA.
We are not asking you to sign an NDA at this time, until you or I deemed it necessary.

If you feel you can assist us, please send a PM to us, as we will be locking this thread to avoid unnecessary distractions in our goal.

Can you go a little more in detail?  That is just a pretty broad amount of topics.

Are you trying to make a miner with someones elses chips?  Design makes it sound like it, but I would think you can tell us your intentions without the secret details without a NDA.
1409  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 1600w S7 power question on: April 08, 2016, 09:07:27 PM
That's for the advice I am in the UK yes Smiley

So how easy/hard is it to add more circuits?

Sara x

Don't do it if you don't know what our doing but opening circuit box can easily tell amps.  It is on the fuses in the box.   If you ever trip a fuse this is the box you reset them.

But again be careful and don't do it if your not comfortable around it.  Lots of electricity goes through a main, which means touch wrong thing bad deal.
1410  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Apr 1 to Apr 15? picks are open.... prize = 0.1 btc on: April 08, 2016, 09:03:31 PM
Hey Philipma, if itīs allowed Iīd like to move my pick from +1.6 to +2.4. If itīs not possible then itīs all good as it stands.
Thanks, r

You can't.

It would ruin the picks if this was allowed.  This week a few have asked (this is at least second time).  But the whole point is first ones to pick get first pick, so the more early you pick the more choices you have open.

But if you wait you might get a lot better idea of what change will be, but picks might be taken.  So part of the fun is trying to pick best point when to pick.
1411  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn Bitcoins fast and free?? on: April 08, 2016, 08:56:25 PM
Nothing is  free in real world, you need to work on it to earn it even if you try claim free btc from faucets sites you need to invest your time and energy.

And you missed part of it "fast" is also the  other part.  If you can earn fast/free bitcoin would be get rich quick.  But it is FAR from that.   It really is a long slow process if you believe in it and try to gain lots of profit.

It's hard to do quick profit without risk. You can do a little free with say signature campaigns, but it's not fast.  And if you are on forum just for sig campaign and not fun.... your here for wrong reason and will not get the enjoyment you should.
1412  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to earn 5lac satoshi on: April 08, 2016, 08:49:17 PM
Hey everyone...are there any way around with which we can earn about 0.005btc or 5lac satoshi per day...i am newbie here so for now its not possible me to join signature campaigns ..so any other way
there is no other way that is good for a newbie can get 0.005BTC/day for free. besides faucet, but I am not sure whether it could make the 0.005BTC/day. but if you have a skill you could offer it at the service section and you can get bitcoin with high amount.

yeah if you hold multiple skills then you can earn good amount of bitcoins on daily basis and for a newbie I think faucet and campaign is the best way to earn it.

The best is honestly have a job and work a normal job, then buy miners or bitcoin.  You will earn the most bitcoins this way.  Skills come to a second I think possibly first depending on skill and how good you are.

Earning .005 from faucets.... is many many hours of time.  And you lose money if you count electricity.  I would not want to be one playing faucets to this amount.
1413  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [TUTORIAL] Earn Bitcoin Here! on: April 08, 2016, 08:44:42 PM
Is it officially allowed here to have 4 accounts? Undecided This tutorial is only gonna increase number of useless posts in the forums.

Yes it is allowed to have multiple accounts.  But having 4 accounts... I think is going to be hard on quality posts.   That is part of why I did not like what this guide is pushing.   But he did not read what I put in first post or did not care and just went to name calling as a "socialists".

If he would have went "find out their talents, that have value, and monetize that" in his words people are better long term then farming 4 accounts.  80 posts a day of quality ... you will be hard to find many that meet the quality part of that.
1414  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [LIST] List of Popular Sites where to Invest Bitcoins! on: April 08, 2016, 05:52:31 PM
Any more websites? C`mon there must be more reputable websites out there.

I`m looking for websites that are at least 1 year old and have many investors, and larger investment pools.

That should lower their risks of being scams, especially if they operate over 1 year, most scams last 1-2 weeks, especially ponzi scams in the /Micro Earning sections.

I dont want ponzi scams, only real investment sites with high trust rating.

Yeah I would agree with you But you can find a site like BTCjam, Btcpop and more. where you invest you bitcoins and make interest per week or monthly. most of the people have chances to get a loan. that interest will give you more than 1000$ monthly.

In addition not every loan will be paid because most of them are defaulter. When dealing to this you better have to review the persons trust and feedbacks like if he has a current loan or a previous defaulted loan.

Be very careful I don't invest with BTCJam is if the person defaults they give you their info, and wish you luck on getting your money back.  I think they need to have a part of company that helps users go after those who default, as it could be international or pricy to go after the person.  I think as of now if someone defaults your chances of getting back are slim.

You have to ask who would use a site like this with big interest rates?  The anwser I think is those who could not get from regular means, or those who intend on defaulting.

So personally I stay away from sites lie BTCJam, and suggest others do the same.
1415  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [TUTORIAL] Earn Bitcoin Here! on: April 08, 2016, 05:47:58 PM
I mean no offense I just am not a fan of this tutorial.  It suggests buying of accounts, and loans.  Things I think new users should stay away from.  I think account farmers give signature users a bad name due to quality of posts.  As even if buyer does decent posts chances are the farmer had sub-par posts with a beginnner signature campaign.

I don't think you should count the "You will interestingly find out that almost all new waves of new bitcoin users end up in faucet sites or other earning sites, with small payouts." These are users who are brand new and are spending hours for cents.  Which is horrible.  A lot of these I don't consider users as they think it's get rich quick... try faucets... and leave after making cents.

Yes whales own a lot of BTC, but any fiat there is not a even distribution of wealth.  So I think bitcoin is the same as any fiat money.  But I don't think you can say "since 99% of bitcoin users are poor, we need to give them incentives."  I just don't believe this number.

People come and go, so what?

If they cant add value to bitcoin (thats how you earn money by generating wealth), then that is their value:  few cents.

Perhaps they should find out their talents, that have value, and monetize that instead.

Sorry i dont like socialists.

You butchered my post to one line..... I fixed it for you.  I am not pushing anyone to socialist or any extreme view point.   I don't know where you got socialist from. I am just saying if someone does a few faucets and gets a few cent's worth of bitcoin I don't see them as a user that should be considered, if they have left never to come back to it.

Which in your own words you said "You will interestingly find out that almost all new waves of new bitcoin users end up in faucet sites or other earning sites, with small payouts."  These waves a lot don't stay... they think get rich quick and leave once find out it's not a get rich quick scheme.   I just don't see the 99 percent are poor.  99 percent may not be whales I would agree on that, but don't see 99 percent as poor.

I wish you would have made a guide to find "find out their talents, that have value, and monetize that" instead of trying to get new users to join site for signature campaigns.  They will be much happier long term if you would have helped them find skills they can sell for bitcoin.
1416  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Pool vs Solo? on: April 08, 2016, 05:41:30 PM
Theoretically both should produce the same number of coins over that period of time (if and this is a big if) network hash rate stayed the same.  Now because more miners keep getting added to the network resulting in difficulty going up almost constantly miners are going to earn less and less over time.  This is why pooled mining makes sense.  Unless you are lucky and get a block it gets more and more difficult to do so over time.  Here is an example of an S7 today vs with a possible future difficulty.

Code:
The average time to generate a block at 4.7 thps, given difficulty of 166,851,513,282.777191162109,
is 4 years, 43 weeks, 3 days, 18 hours, 10 minutes, and 48 seconds

The average time to generate a block at 4.7 thps, given difficulty of 200,000,000,000,
is 5 years, 41 weeks, 3 days, 8 hours, 42 minutes, and 34 seconds

This is an extreme example but as you can see the average time to hit the block keeps going into the future and you may never reach that date.

Now we are also in a special time with the nearing reward halving.  If you solo mine and don't hit before it happens then your reward will be a lot lower then getting blocks in a pool both before and after it.

In the end it all comes down to 1 question.  Are you feeling lucky?

Theory is far from truth though.   Even if there was no addition of more miners or hashrate solo mining is a thing of the past for most users.  Even if you had 10 S7's or almost 50T I still would not solo mine.  It's just a horrible idea for most.  I think solo mining is for the big mining corporations at this point.  Yes some might rent and try to do it, but that is still not guarantee.

End comes down to join a pool.  Unless you are wanting to lotto mine, which you are right is more of a "Are you feeling lucky" type of situation.

Very Revealing documentary about mining in China. Make sure you Select CC for the translation.

A nice April Fools Joke! Thanks for sharing! I wish videos like this go viral so more people hear about Bitcoin and start learning more about it. That's a shame it has only 2k views, guys did a good job.
that's correct keep it spreed in the cyber world and let many people knows about bitcoin even this is just a joke it will gather attention and many would be curios to know more about bitcoin, more user to come more business for us! good job OP.

We will never know but some might think this is true which is funny and sad.  I know some people ask me about bitcoin that would believe some of the things in video, I'm not sure where some non-technical people get initial bitcoin info but it can be off by a lot.

I don't think from views many will get "attention and many would be curios to know more about bitcoin" from this.   Which is good.  But still was a good joke on their part.
1418  Economy / Securities / Re: Bitcoin mining project, entry level investment on: April 08, 2016, 05:30:17 PM
Something interesting they started a new topic here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1430539.msg14468525#msg14468525 and locked it after posting:

So not sure what their motive is but seems they are back with post they did above and locked in a new topic.   I think they will find out they need to tell more before most would touch a NDA.
1419  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New one fan S7 on: April 08, 2016, 05:23:51 PM
LOL they put a warranty sticker on one of the screws:

snip to save space

Thank you for posting I wondered what they would look like.  I am not sure what to think of new blackplate with warranty sticker.  It does seem adding a second fan like I thought might be a good idea... will void warranty so crappy idea.

Guess we will see how they operate with new higher RPM fan.   Hopefully it all runs good and 2nd fan we see is not needed.  I don't have one to test out but some might be like my mining area using lots of CFM's to cool miners.  Hopefully if one would fail in my mining area the CFM's from big fan's would still keep it in a safe zone.  Or at least allow it to safely turn off without getting horribly hot.

*Slow realisation*
*HAHAHAHA B/G/N THAT'S SO OLD*

 Cool

Once I got gigabit internet is when I realized how slow some of the old protocols are.  Also a lot of routers are to to be able to handle a gigabit connection it made me look into much higher routers then I normally buy.  I ended up with nighthawk gear with AC wireless.

I personally will never be using the R1 for a router myself.
