IMO the arbitrageurs that bought BTC on Bitstamp and sold on MtGox still have most of their $ on MtGox.
If they would transfer the $ to Bitstamp they would be in limbo for about a month or more, and BTC could go up 20% in this time.
At some point the arbitrageurs run out of $ to buy on Bitstamp, just like the BTC buying whale probably runs out of $ on MtGox.
What if it drops by 20%? They would be able to buy much more for their money. Not saying that arbitrage is smart... but just reminding. |

I remember the wall observer threads when the market was bubbling. Zoomed out, the buying wall looked like a tsunami, ready to overflood the gradual upward curve of the selling wall. Some made drawings of surf boarders on the buying waves, and on the selling wall, drawed people fleeing from the wave etc.
Since the crash I've seen the inverse, now the selling wall looks like a wave, sometimes tsunami, ready to overflow the gradual upward curve of the buying wall.
I'm surprised these pictures showing the strong selling tsunami and making funny drawings on it are not posted here though. Or did I miss those?

We really need to break that resistance. It really looks to me that what is being bought on Gox is being dumped on BitStamp in a hurry I think we could be about to see a REAL price dislocation in the coming days. Something wierd is going on. I'm thinking about this... why would someone do that? What would it get them? Are they trying to get BitStamp to explode up when the selling there stops? And then folks react on Gox, and so on? (Sort of like creating a coiled spring on BitStamp. Then they sell their coins higher on Gox at a later time (as the rally continues). Something just seems weird (as usual) with the movement... What it gets them is fiat in their bank not a Gox IOU ... Perhaps they were tying to create a bit of panic selling on Gox by slamming Bitstamp, and doing it the other way round. ie selling coins on Bitstamp and then buying on Gox after. Not a problem if you already own a bunch. And has the same net effect of moving out of Gox. Didn't really work though in terms of panic. Just cost them more in slippage  I think it's for effect. If you have 1k in coins, you really need fiat bad enough that you will dump them on Bitstamp at up to $10 lower than you can get them elsewhere? Doesn't ring true to me. Exactly my thinking... why would someone sell on stamp for $83 instead at gox for 94$ (13% lower). There is some strange info we don't know yet about. |

There are several high quality exchanges coming online in the next month or so, including Coinsetter, TradeHill, & BTC Global. These will make a significant difference to the market.
Yes, Bitcoin needs more exchanges if we want to see higher prices. 4 big exchanges is not enough, we need 10. Explain why we need more leading exchanges? Quantity over quality?  |

You don't get it. Media attention was high at the end of March, do you think that average investor or speculator (who was first introduced to bitcoin during this media press) was able to invest lots of his money in 14 days??? You wish... It is a process like I said.
You should bold the whole sentence till the first comma not only first part.

But media attention didn't bring new people and money to the game to create even bigger bubble, but it stimulated "old" players to buy more. Generally it is a long way since getting to know bitcoin to invest a lot of your money (there are steps and process which require time).

99.9% of my entourage and random street people don't know what is Bitcoin. We are far from mainstream.
Have you literally walked down the street and asked random people if they knew what Bitcoin was and kept a tally? I wear have had a t-shirt with the Bitcoin BTC on it (actually says " BTC or GTFO") . I have been asked at least a couple dozen times "what is that?" and only had one person recognize it. At least 50:1 if not more. Not scientific but if you think Bitcoin is mainstream well you obviously have already made up your mind so facts don't really matter. Bitcoin may be many thing and it may go down or it may even crash and burn but the idea that it is already mainstream is just silly. Can't and won't happen  300M > 21M |
