You can't force someone to sell something they own (equity). Not unless it's done at gun point, anyway.
All they have to do is reinterpret the contract, simple!

We're gonna need to go ahead and get his profile updated at bitcoin2012.com

So if 1 dude fucks up at a Company you crap on the entire company.. That's not fair....
You should wait and see what happens, he may not be involved with bitcoin Magazine any longer.
Unfortunately Matt used his position at bitcoin magazine to shore up his alleged ability to pay. Many entered into the bet trusting his position with the magazine.

Truth is pirate is < scammer than Matthew as 0/112 < 23/459

Heck I just figured pirate deserved the attention more than *AHEM* so to balance things out and eventually forget *AHEM* let's talk about pirate. ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Increasing the reply count

Psy let's put him on ignore.
That will piss him off if everyone does that.
What for? He's not posting. And I'm not mad about him not paying, just about his lame excuse. I would respect him more if he just said: Fuck you all, I'm not paying a dime. That's what you get for trusting me. Absolutely +1 What enrages me (yes, rage is the trot word) isnt that I didn't get what I never was going to get, but the true fact of a significant financial loss: popcorn. I even purchased extra butter. This is all we get? A play on words? I am so let down by an aweful cop out ending. If you're gonna get the scammer tag, at least earn it by going out like a man.

I'm still agonizing over which is funnier... watching the entire spreadsheet worth of bettors get pantsed in public, or the outcry over it.
If anyone who had an IQ reaching into double digits did any background on Matty, and his Hilarious Horde of Hijinks you would have known good and early that this would turn out to be a spoof, a canard, a bon geste. You have all been made out to look as foolish as online personas can possibly be, and every single bettor who lined up for this abuse looks about as intelligent as the losers on To Catch A Predator, who stand there dumbfounded, wondering why they aren't screwing a 14 year old hottie, and they are being grilled on TV instead.
I would imagine the only remorse Matt has is that it fell on the 9th of September, and not the 1st of April.
What a boatload of buffoons! Quick, back into your clown car and go chasing after the next great scheme... you know they next one has to be real...
You think 14 year olds are hotties? Dude. Creepy.

Promissory Estoppel - don't know if it's been brought up in this thread yet but it's the phrase you need to know.
promissory estoppel n. when a person makes a false statement to another and the listener relies on what was told to him/her in good faith and to his/her disadvantage. In order to see that justice is done a court will treat the statement as a promise, and in a trial the judge will preclude the maker of the statement from denying it. Thus, the legal inability of the person who made the false statement to deny it makes it an enforceable promise called "promissory estoppel," or an "equitable estoppel." Example: Bernie Blowhard tells Arthur Artist that Blowhard has a contract to make a movie and wants Artist to paint the background scenery in return for a percentage of the profits. Artist paints, and Blowhard then admits he needed the scenery to try to get a movie deal which fell through and there are no profits to share. Artist sues and the judge finds that Blowhard cannot deny a contract with Artist and gives Artist judgment for the value of his work. (See: estoppel)

Please refer to : http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~param/quotes/guide.htmlfor a grammar guide to use in situations regarding future events that will not have transpired. Use of good grammar is always recommended in situations where concepts can have been complex. Using good grammar will only lead to locking yourself into agreements an bets. Using poor grammar and other ambiguities will allow you to get out on a technicality. There seems to be a recent example but I can't seem to find it.

Ive gotta say, I repeatedly stated there wad no fucking way Matthew would pay out (even though I had a large amount bet with him), but I never figured it would be on a technicality this lame..I expected more of Matthew, this wasn't even clever.
Would you have paid in case he had won the bet? Absolutely 100% I would have paid, otherwise I wouldn't have made the bet
|
|
|
You guys all pegged Matthew as a SCAMMER and shit all over him weeks before the bet even ended.....so when he gives you all what you want and prove you all right, you are surprised ?
What incentive did he have to do anything after the kangaroo court spent over 2 weeks dragging his name and reputation through the mud ?
THINK ABOUT IT.
What incentive? Uhm, how about proving the kangaroo court wrong?

The worst thing is that it is such a terrible joke. It's as if someone says "I know a good one!" and then lets out a fart. Very unsatisfying.
Except for the one expelling the gas

AAhhaahaha....SCAM. Please show where money switched hands, please. Two words: detrimental reliance. +1 To restate: If this situation were to be left unchecked, it sets a precedent that you can back out of any bet on a grammatical technicality. Taking actual coins or not paying promised coins is the EXACT SAME THING. It falls closer to a service rendered, In this case the fulfillment of the agreement was entering the betting information in the forum and having the bet accepted. This is no different than doing a logo design and then not getting paid for your end of the agreement because "you design my logo and I'll send 20BTC to that address".
