TIPS is on top of the voting list at Cryptopia, 15 hours left.
I have made some larger votes and am prepared to defend 1st position, however I will not be online in the last hours of the voting so please keep an eye on the list and vote with DOTs if necessary.
1402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FedoraCoin (TiPS); New style, new services, same unique features on: March 20, 2016, 11:02:03 AM
What is really worrying is that bter seems to take part in this "swap" and pushes it ahead.
Naturally fedoradev2 has started to delete posts in his "new", self-moderated thread.

I have already voted with ~120k DOT on Cryptopia and I will continue to spend the remainder of my offered donation for new exchange there today to make sure TIPS wins the race this week.

1403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FedoraCoin (TiPS); New style, new services, same unique features on: March 19, 2016, 07:45:27 PM
Obviously the mods have already removed the fake ANN as well as the fake fedoradev account and all its posts.

Thanks to all who helped to stop this scam in its early beginnings!

Quoting myself...meanwhile the same ANN (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1403551) has been posted again and this time it didn't get removed by mods.
Given the little resistance to this unfriendly takeover and the fact that BTER has already disabled TIPS withdrawal I fear this will end bad either way.

What do the other long time supporters of TIPS think about this development?

I suspect they are just trying to drive the price down to buy cheap.

For now and for me personally, testbug and teillagory are the leaders for the efforts to bring TIPS to new grounds, nobody else. These guys have invested time and money to improve this coin.

I predict nothing will happen at 23:00, nothing except that somebody has filled his pockets with cheap TIPS.
1406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FedoraCoin (TiPS); New style, new services, same unique features on: March 18, 2016, 06:52:09 AM
Why change algo from scrypt to sha256?
Whats wrong with scrypt or do you just own more sha256 miners?
And why such quick change ? Seems unreasonable to me.

1407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 【BOT】C.A.T. Cryptocurrency Automatic Trader 3.7 0.5฿ LifeLicense 11 Exchanges! on: March 16, 2016, 11:34:18 AM
C.A.T is very difficult to set up ?
That is one reason I don't buy it and it takes up all your computer memory to use it is what I heard.

You heard bullshit.
I use Cat on a 8 years old dual core, on 10-25 markets at the same time.
Sampey sorry... someone did tell me that.
The whole problem here is the difficulty in using it as someone posted here. I'm a real noob at this stuff .. meaning a newbie at it. Smiley
And I dare not take the chance of losing .75 BTC on something I won't be able to use.

Then C.A.T. is probably not for you (yet). I suggest learning the basics of trading, especially ping-pong trades to make some small profits on volatile markets. Once you can reliably make (small) profits by repeatedly buying low and selling high and you come to think "Wouldn't it be great if my computer could do this all day and night long for me" then it is the time to think about buying a C.A.T. license and let it do the job for you, basically C.A.T. follows your own strategy for you when you need or want to be AFK.
In other words: If you know what you are doing on a market, C.A.T. can do that for you 24x7 reliably. C.A.T. is no magic bullet that "just makes money on altcoin markets".

C.A.T. has a lot of settings you can adjust, that can be overhelming in the beginning. But once you realize you only need to create a ping-pong trade with default settings it becomes very simple as Sampey says.

C.A.T. is extremly stable and it certainly has no memory problems and is very lightweight in its resource usage. I run it on a VPS with 1G RAM for ~30 markets on 2 exchanges, current uptime is over 45 days (yeah sorry Sampey, still running 3.5 at the moment but I promise to update soon Wink).

Hello.
I like to add TIPS on alcurEX but will need to some help.
wallet windows version not pass our virus scan and can't find any other qt or daemon.
I can compile it from source on later, or use linux wallet but currently i have only win server for "less trusted" coins.
Any tips Smiley

Attention!
BTER has problem with TIPS deposits (transaction come to exchange in 1-2 day)
https://hash-to-coins.com/

only trades on BTER
website?
BE?

... NOPE!

EDIT: The BTER deposit service has been restored since ~11th March and is working flawless since then has been working flawless until about 30min after I posted this message.

I agree completely about getting TIPS on even more exchanges, however most require a website and a working block explorer to list coins and we probably need to tackle these issues first before approaching other exchanges.

I think we can present a working blockexplorer in the early days of next week Smiley

So BE should be coming next days too.

Missing website is a problem though, agreed and the problem regarding lost access to domains hasn't been resolved yet.

My donation of .01 BTC still stands (to be used as psycodad decides).

But, every effort should be made to get TiPS on as many exchanges as possible ASAP.  The trade volume alone at $55,000 USD a day is the best selling point for an exchange to add it.

Thanks for confirming your donation offer.

Did anybody notice the new 1% bonus on TIPS deposits at BTER?

Spelled out: they add a deposit bonus while deposits are still not working properly.. raises some suspicions with me and remotely reminds me of Cryptsys "withdraw-tax"...

Yes but did you see that BTER has 1% on everycoin? And if you withdraw your coins you lose the bonus again? By this bter is getting a bit more from the 0.2% fee because with 1,000,000 TIPS deposited you can trade like if it would be 1,010,000 TIPS meaning a bit more of the 0.2% fee if i didn't calculate wrong Wink

Thank you for your explanation testbug.
I didn't see the 1% bonus on any other coin I am depositing at BTER, I checked KDC and CNC and both have no bonus.
Also I am unsure if anything on withdraws has changed, can't really remember if the 1% was there before or is new now, but you are right:
You get 1% on deposit pay more fee for trading with it and then pay 1% on withdraw.

I got a reply to my ticket today and wanted to share an important part of it with those among you that deposit TIPS to BTER:

Quote
Please note, we are going to update to a new wallet to offer better deposit experience. There will be a new address.

Please send your TIPS to the new address later.

And indeed my deposit address has changed. So please make sure to check your (new) deposit address at BTER before sending TIPS!

In my understanding it means that if the application compiled against the vulnerable glibc does a gethostbyname() call it can be owned. Now since a miner typically resolves the IP of the pool it wants to connect to, the miner might be pretty easy to attack as you can relatively easy predict that it will resolve its pool sooner or later. It is unclear to my understanding if the DNS server your miner uses would discard an actual malformed answer that would trigger the vulnerability.

The firewall you have in front of your miners doesn't help anything here (except you have it locked down so much, that the miner only can connect to the pools ip and port, else the attacker just launches a reverse shell with nc or whatever is en vogue right now.
So theoretically you could just remove any DNS servers from your Pi (echo "" > /etc/resolv.conf) and instead of the name of your pool, add the IP of the pool in the web frontend (and hope your pool doesn't switch providers or whatever could make a change of IP necessary).

Other than that running "apt-get update; apt-get upgrade" and waiting for a new miner binary to be released there is not much we Terminator operators can do right now. Let's hope this will be before real exploits are being published. AFAIK there are currently only 2 PoC exploits in the wild which make it unlikely that the the average Terminator out there is targeted but that might change quickly once there is for example a module for metasploit.

True I can see that, for some reason I had not though about send a download and run type thing.

I was looking, I see the vulnerability for glibc but not really for eglibc, guess going to have to make a test bench somehow

eglibc is equally affected from the problem as far as I can judge:

i.e.: http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-2485-1/

I am not that into coding and software as I would like. Do I read it correctly that because I have build the cgminer builds on the raspberry pi and not under Ubuntu that the builds are not vulnerable??

Most advisories only talk about glibc, but I am pretty confident all previous versions of eglibc were vulnerable (no matter if ubuntu or debian):

https://www.debian.org/security/2016/dsa-3480

If you still have your build system available, just apt-get upgrade it and then make the binary again, that should be sufficient (eventually a make clean would be advisable before).
Could you explain what make does in detail? Does it include the glib-code (or parts of it) in the output or only links to the relevant things? If it does the latter, then would it not be sufficient to only upgrade the system and the previously compiled results then would point to the upgraded, non-vulnerable version?

Good point, I am not expert enough to answer this.
To my knowlegde if eglibc has not been linked statically then this could be enough (= if -static was not used for building).

As it looks there are no more working exchanges for TIPS (Cryptsy is most probably gone forever and bter is just totally unreliable and it could follow Cryptsys path soon).
So please help me to add TIPS to the new and promising SafeCEX Exchange by voting for it here:

https://safecex.com/coin/add?q=tips

Thx!

hey,

bter is just too unreliable, I have several pending transactions for weeks.
The support says that they have made withdraws (FALSE!)

I have some TIPS but have no where to trade it.

Who is keen to help list TIPS on cryptopia.co.nz Huh

see below offer"

cryptopia are offering discount on adding coins on cryptsy ..

"In light of the current climate over at Cryptsy and the influx in users looking for somewhere to go we are offering to list any coin currently listed on Cryptsy (Provided it meets our current standards) for 500,000 DOT each.

This offer is separate from the voting process, if you'd like to get a Cryptsy coin listed, please raise a support ticket."

500k DOT is a bit less than 0.1 BTC atm.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
who wants to participate in a support ticket to move TIPS to cryptopia ?
my idea is, everyone who wants to participate commits here and take a small part of the 500k DOT in BTC, commits this here.
i can raise the support ticket at cryptopia, collect these amounts, buy DOTs and try to make TIPS listed to cryptopia.
https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Forum/Thread/492

currently the BTC/DOT price is 0.00000012 (very cheap)
https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Exchange

so we need about 0.1btc to get TIPS into cryptopia listed

i start here the list of the TIPS lover/supporter. feel free to add your name in the thread

I did post the above a while ago but no one here cares about TIPS.

I can still organise if we could raise the funds from supports.

bter sucks!

This is the last time I am re-posting this.

Does anyone want to support listing TIPS on cryptopia.co.nz or yobit?

If so, please let me know your name and donation amount and i will add to the list.

Thanks for your efforts to bring TIPS to an alternative exchange.
Count me in with 0.02 BTC, hopefully more TIPS users will join us.

Thanks... you have initiated the crow funding for TIPS.

First step is to get listed on www.cryptopia.co.nz

We need to raise 500,000 DOT COINS (Cryptopia Coin) at market price of 13sat (at current time).
the funds are required for listing and it = 0.066 BTC (at current market price for DOT).

TIPS lover/supporter list
-------------------------------------

1. psycodad donates 0.02 BTC (not paid)
2. TBC
3. TBC
4. TBC

Others....please help and let TIPS be traded on a reliable exchange.

Bumping this, after bter having again ongoing problems with TIPS deposits it becomes vital to bring TIPS to a second exchange.
I'll double my amount above to 0.04 BTC. Anybody else willing to join ?

For those who do not want to donate but have an account on Cryptopia, please vote for TIPS too!

hey psycodad, seems like no one is willing to donate and raise necessarily funds for a listing on new exchange (yobit, cryptopia).
but Alcurex is happy to list and 0.04 BTC will be enough donation. let me know if you are interested and i will ask the admin, thanks

good luck

Thank you for your efforts SEABOND, much appreciated!
If Alcurex would be willing to list TIPS, that would be perfectly fine with me.
I'd be more than happy to take your offer and get this rolling, please get us in touch with them.
And if Cryptoid is in for Alcurex too, we'd have 0.05 BTC to offer for getting listed on Alcurex.

Cheers

I trying to deposit small amount of TIPS on bter but my balance is still 0. I made a ticket on suppost site and wait for answer. What is miniumum tx for this coin?

I am also waiting for a deposit to show up on BTER. It seems their TIPS wallet has (again) problems right now. Keep us posted if your deposit comes through finally.

This time, i dont think the wallet on BTER has a problem.
THe problem is the increasement on difficulty (about 350 right now) and a temporarly drop in hashing powers: longer block time means longer confirmations ==> We have to wait longer for our TIPS to show up on BTER.
But well, i am not working for BTER so this could also be a wallet problem on BTER, but i dont think so because my personal wallets are also slower today Wink

Good hint. BTERs deposit page says they want 12 confirmations, but I suspect for TIPS they want more (Cryptsy wanted more than 1000 IIRC). My deposit has currently only 154 confirmations so it seems the network has been slow in the last hours as you say. Lets give them some more blocks before we get the pitchforks and torches out  Wink
