Your PC has a CPU. Your CPU can do a whole heap of things, but it isn't engineered to mine Bitcoin. Then Mr. GPU comes along. He can work faster and mine more Bitcoin, but he isn't designed to mine Bitcoin. Sir FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) comes along. He can be programmed to mine Bitcoin. He can also be programmed to do other stuff. Then Lord ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) walks in on the party. He's built to mine Bitcoin. That's the only thing he can do, and he does it really fast. Much faster than everything else (so far), and more efficient.

It is possible for you to live off Bitcoin. How many Bitcoins you'd have to sell depends on your lifestyle. The problem is how you earn all those Bitcoin to be able to live off Bitcoin. If you mine, you'd earn less and less. If you live off Bitcoin completely, you'd worry about a multitude of things, and it would drive you nuts. If somebody was to do that, I would say 10 BTC as a bare minimum per month.

It is never too late to do something (even though if it is too late, you might be disadvantaged). Create your blog about Bitcoin, and create articles that capture people. Place ads, earn Bitcoin. I'd say it is a good idea to create a Bitcoin blog.

I earn Bitcoin everyday, although at different rates. Some days I make more than others. I use Anonymous Ads, a Bitcoin paying ad service, to place ads on my sites. I haven't earned much at all, but it is something.

I highly doubt that Bitcoin would replace money in the near future. An obvious obstacle is not everybody has access to the internet, or even a computer. Each country wants to have its own currency, and some have gone extreme by banning Bitcoin completely. Also, the limited number of Bitcoin, being capped at 21M BTC, would be a problem if everybody started using Bitcoin as their primary way of trading, as many would want to save.
