1401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero's ANON FAIL ! on: December 23, 2016, 06:24:53 AM
Pseudo-anonimity is good enough for me.

What I find hilarious is that 96.52% of Monero's volume belongs to a single, centralized exchange (polo) which also require people's identity. Until that's fixed I'm not sure how people can push Monero.

You are right. I never thought about that.

That's scary.

At 88% atm: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/volume/24-hour/

And I think when Bitfinex implements margin trading for XMR that will probably continue to decrease.

Honestly, it would be optimal for more people to use bitsquare... but... you know how that goes....

You guys are right though, there needs to be less of a centralization to polo. 88% is still way too centralized for comfort, but yeah, hopefully people who like to day trade will like taking advantage of lower volumes and margin trading all at once, once that becomes a "thing" over on finex.

I really want to give credit to Monero for holding it's value during this Bitcoin rise. $8.50 at the moment.
Looking at the USD charts, it has been pegged linearly since the reversal of the DNM selloff. The BTC rise isn't shaking off XMR as it usually does to alts.

Anyone have a guess as to why?

So sorry that you're out at the moment. You're about to get wrecked.

He is so butthurt he missed the big hike - hasn't been here in ages, been begging for pennies on the street to get back in and 'just needs more time' now.

I feel sorry for him.  Some guys just never realise they are not smart enough....

Another broke 2013 cryptocoiner that missed the train. I'll sign a 500btc address if you sign a 50btc one first...

From what I understand, this point release was the only thing holding back the GUI.

IT'S HAPPENING!

In 2017, monero will surely beat ethereum and climb to number two on the charts...

It'll be the cash to btc's bank account. Slightly more ambitious than LTC. With an actual mission bigger than no 2 IMHO

MONERO - The Cash To Bitcoin's Bank Account

Hah! My kind of slogan (;-0

I like it too! Thanks for my new 1/2 of a signature!

Any updates to the protocol scheduled for the next hard fork ?  RingCT ?

RingCT is already in the code and active on the public testnet. It is scheduled to go live on the main net with the next hard fork.

Thanks.

There is something really unsettling with Primer posting here and not shitposting about Monero in some form or another. Primer, what happened to your pessimism? I'm honestly curious.

Not a train pic, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is it the code that is particularly unique compared to other cryptonote coins , now, or the infrastructure around it?

Uniqueness among cryptonotes?

Already implemented, from the top of my head:
  • lmdb, which makes the daemon have a low RAM requirement and allows a ...
  • stunningly fast sync (when the hardware can keep up)
  • ringCT, ringCT, ringCT
  • real world viewkey utility - there is a way to check is your cold storage's monero are still there
  • built in bandwith management (this is not an issue until it is)
  • json based checkpointing (thanks BcX Wink )
  • You can store it on trezor

In the oven
  • Fluffyblocks
  • 0MQ - As a nice and robust base for future infrastructure
  • I2P integration (and a brand new I2p router side project named Kovri)
  • Multisig, multisig

I am sure there is more stuff, but this is what I remember.

EDIT:
Forgot a very important thing: 24.1 Mh/s

What the heck is "Fluffyblocks"? I remember seeing someone saying that in the IRC, but thought it was a joke.  Also, looked on the stackexchange and came up with nothing.

Is there any reason for Bitcoin going up?

bitcoin's not really up unless you consider 1% a significant move

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/huobi/btccny

Look at 1 week chart, hard to deny Bitcoin bear market is over.  Every 1% or 2% increase just reaffirms this notion.  Rome wasnt built in a day, it will creep up slowly until FOMO kicks in and things will get crazy again.

With the state of affairs of world financial systems and institution its a perfect storm for a Bitcoin explosion.  Likely orders of magnitude better than ever before during Bitcoins existence.

Tim Draper predicts bitcoin can reach $10,000 by 2018. How  high do you think it can reach with this next bull run?

I think thats very possible.  It would be hard to put a number on it, it would be complete speculation but I think even a lot higher than that would be possible.

Imagine a scenario where US loses the petro dollar and oil becomes traded in Bitcoins.  Or a financial system crash of unseen magnitude which seems likely to be in our future.  Euro seems to be dying a slow death, the US dollar is strong but when the petro dollar is gone it will crash hard as well.  The house of cards will come crashing down one day, they can only kick the can down the road so many times.

I'm curious... what makes you so sure that there is a chance of the US losing it's petro dollar? Is there any notion that something like this could happen?

Also, I'm quite skeptical that all of OPEC will agree to trade oil for only Bitcoins... Bitcoin's blockchain can hardly handle the transactional load of a bunch of geeks; I can't see a world, with 1 Mb blocks, can handle all nations continuously buying/selling for oil.  That would just be insanity, and it won't be long before OPEC will get sick and tired of waiting for confirmation times in order to sell their oil.

Hmm I thought the most recent 'official statement' was that the GUI release was "Imminent" -- doesn't "imminent" mean sooner than two more months?

I mean, c'mon guys let's at least see an 'alpha' release if not actual 'beta' or final version here, amirite?

Just having something at least, that the masses can SEE is basically working -- even if it's not 100% perfect yet?  OR is there serious risk of losing XMR if things in the GUI are not absolutely squeaky clean... isn't this just a layer on the current daemon and CLI wallet?

Frankly I'm a long-term Monero supporter and HODL'er and I've defended the lack of a pretty eye-candy GUI front-end for a long time, but... c'mon again this is startin' to get a little ridiculous, dontcha think?

How long it's taking to release the official GUI is also one of the only really big things that Monero Haters have in their arsenal to throw out against XMR and I for one would at least like to see THAT taken away from 'em...

Chill man.. enjoy this sensational wave until the GUI drops:

1413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 18, 2016, 12:50:11 AM

I'm new to cryptos but how would the official GUI differ from the unoffical ones currently available like lightwallet?

It seems lightwallet is quite easy to use and opensource, is it missing something I'm not aware of?

Official GUI will have everything included with it, unlike the lightwallets... runs node and wallet, etc.
1414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 18, 2016, 12:46:47 AM

Once that happens and users see that bitcoin is in no way private, that is when the scale tips.

What clinched it for me was after I had yet *another* account unceremoniously shut down on me with NO warning, NO reason, NO explanation given... allegedly because of some "unapproved" coins landing in my wallet from three or four hops away.  This has happened to me already more than once.

Near as I can figure it out, it's because someone somewhere down the line must've put a bitcoin or two thru a gambling website or -- god forbid -- done some transaction on the dark web and/or run their BTC thru a simple tumbler and/or God-Knows-WTF-Else that "they" didn't like.

Mind you, it wasn't ME (pinky swear!) and my main failure, I guess, was just not paying enough attention to having to manually "clean" my own wallet in order to avoid this sort of problem.  But POINT IS *why* would I even THINK I should HAVE to do that?  The dollar bills in my pocket also have traces of cocaine on them supposedly, but am I responsible for the actions of some coke dealer somewhere?  LOL  it's ridiculous, what these "chain analysis" people apparently believe.

Anyway, yeah of course I'm an early casualty of this scenario simply because I'm a very heavy bitcoin user... several transactions a day, every day.  People who only do a couple transactions per week or less don't have the volume (*yet*) to have this trigger on them.  So the real PROBLEM is not yet very APPARENT to most people.

But it's going to come, and it's only going to get worse and worse, and when the awareness of this very real problem finally takes hold, then MONERO will be the first and best answer as the solution...

Plus I mean, think about if Hillary gets elected... the more she tries to "crackdown" on Bitcoin and force companies like coinbase to comply with stricter rules; those companies would have to follow suite and then I think people will start to see the true issues with bitcoin.

Ahahahaha good luck to find All of my fake Accounts Herr Cheesy yes im nrg and Adolf and at least two more hahaha so much Fun...10xmr for the One who find the other fake ones hehe

Christ, so much drama.

This is self-modded thread, perhaps a tidy up/ip baniing is required at this point?

Yeah, I always expect Smooth to come back to the rescue and clean all of this stuff up and keep things on topic... but I just assume he's got other stuff going on as of now.  This thread has gotten to be unpleasant to read the past couple weeks/month or so.
1416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 01, 2016, 03:28:05 AM
Oasis DNM has been silent for 2+ days now.  No support tickets are being answered and people are speculating an exit scam.  Others say that it may be down for routine maintenance.  Pick your poison.

Just the speculation of Oasis being offline for a few days, and the market goes down.  If it comes back up, then the price may rise and even out.  If they decide to stay quiet, then the price will fall until people are ready to talk about the GUI wallet.

That being said, there is already a new DNM that is Monero only.  https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/557ilm/moneromarket_xmr_only_dnm/

Who knows if this is Oasis secretly renaming themselves to support Monero?  If it is them, it's a fantastic idea being able to buy cheap Monero and then slowly gaining more, then dumping over time.

I'm new to trading so take my info with a grain of salt, but speculation about what is going on isn't hard.  It's easy to find info about this coin.

Well, while I can see the reasoning for a slight scare in the market due to something like this happening; doesn't really make much sense because 1) it's not the most popular DNM, Alphabay is... and 2) Alphabay accepts Monero as well.

I can't really attest to how much the average volume is being used for purchases on a daily basis, but still...

hello boyz n gals.

i was caught by me missus brazzers subscription ,  consider i can pay xmr to porn . i am addicted to the porn stars on site  Angry

Hahahah, what makes this even more hilarious to me isn't just the terrible English; it's the fact that I was totally expecting a  Wink or a  Cool emoji after that sentence instead of a  Angry .

I don't know why I find this so funny, but I can't stop laughing.
1419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 12, 2016, 11:05:29 PM

I have contributed to the dev fund. Can you please direct me to the thread where I can speculate about how the lack of basic UI features may affect the price? Perhaps a Monero speculation thread?

I understand the GUI gripes are tiresome (here's looking at you, N-rG). The "Fuck you. Go code a GUI." responses are getting old too.

Make stupid posts, win stupid responses!   Cheesy

The more the bratty moonchildren pout about the lack of an Official GUI, the funnier it gets to me.

As if stomping their feet and repetitiously asking "are we there yet?" will speed up development.

These high time preference neurotypicals are like the Gavinistas, unwilling to wait for proper Layer 2 Bitcoin scaling and loudly demanding Something Be Done "Right Meow!!!!1!"

When I watch my friend's kids and they start being overbearing about a request, I tell them further nagging will result in penalty delays.

Despite being only a few years old, they understand instantly and stop whining.

I propose we cancel the GUI project entirely, to buy the community a few more precious months off putting of our Eternal September.

The funny thing to me, though, is that I guarantee that these people who are complaining so much are probably all the people still holding some silly margin position on poloniex and/or don't want to "lose money" because they bought at a higher price; and "surely" a GUI will help them get back to square one or possibly make some profit.

In the future after the GUI has been out and the circle jerk frenzy of "speculators"/"master minds of the market" has ended, then they will surely find something else to continuously harass the devs to fix right now because of muh user adoption.  I will go ahead on record and say that this future problem will probably be the scalability/file size problem.

Look new guys, I know it's frustrating to have to learn something new to be able to secure coins if you are just coming into Monero or cryptocurrencies in general; but I honestly hardly knew anything when I first was introduced randomly to Monero and just by continuously asking people for support on reddit, IRC, here, etc. I figured pretty much everything I need to know out.  The community is just nice like that.  But in order to get helpful answers to your questions, you can't just be a dick and shout "LOL, *insult comment here Obviously you could do just X, Y, and Z but this is just a shit coin anyway, LOL*".

I think deep down, the people complaining so much know they could probably figure out how to compile the GUI from the source; but they wouldn't want too because they think 1) the "CEO" of this "company" should do it 2) It should be easy for everyone, and I wouldn't want to invest in this thing if it's not easy for everyone, or 3) If I actually created a wallet I would have to actually send funds to my wallet, which would mean I would have to cancel my margin positions... "bu-but muh gainz!" Sad

Acceptance in AB

I did a little search for products that you can buy with MONERO and found a 28% to 56% acceptance depending on types of markets.

Just curious, could you tell us more about what kind of markets? It would really be interesting to get kind of a brief "report" on how adoption is going on DNM's

A quick search on AB shows: (I can't seem to figure out how to see how many vendors vs btc)

50 pages of 50 listings each (That's max shown) all accepting XMR. So, that's ... Quite a large number, IMO. The integration is there, it's on the front page etc etc... I think we have a winner here! Also, it looks like it's in use for all different kinds of products over there but I really didn't spend much time - not really my thing, but was too curious. Grin

Nice, but did you check and see if the majority of the vendors that were accepting XMR were offering discounts/more bang for your buck if people would pay in Monero?  Last time I heard a report on what was going on on AB or Oasis that's what the majority of vendors were doing.
