14162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin's Empty Blocks Analaysis. on: May 03, 2020, 03:09:56 AM
Great analysis. Could you factor in the timestamp/the timing received by blockchair into the graph? It would be a lot clearer to see the timings between the empty blocks and the block before it.

I am interested in time breakdowns  I would love to see how many zero fee blocks are due to the sheer size of the pool

ie lets say under 10 seconds
vs something seems wrong lets say 30 seconds.

JUST a fast check of three shows  a big difference in time 6 to 32 seconds.

people scream empty blocks are  pools being bad actors

is it simply the pools are really big?

@ mikey thanks you thread made me consider that size is a bigger factor then I realize.

BTW  I think covert asic was done bigly back in the day.

I also think if someone uses  time analysis along with empty block like you did you can get a better idea of what was happening.
14163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin's Empty Blocks Analaysis. on: May 03, 2020, 02:35:02 AM
bitmain had a 1 second block as per their stat page

 a normal block should be 600 seconds  odds for the network would be high  for any given block to be a 1 second block

you bring up an interesting point in saying we get 1 empty block a day.

that would be 1 in 144.

this is 6 seconds or about 6/11 time to earn as the other example.

although on their stats page they claim it took 1 second.

I would love to know  the time gaps for every one  and how many per day.

that seems really long time to earn 0 tx fees

I checked the first 3 you listed

11  seconds 0 fees
 6   seconds 0 fees
32  seconds 0 fees

seems to me  if a pool is under 10 seconds it is not a big deal but 32 seconds seems really bad.

Obviously you need to check more then 3 to get a feel for fucked up issues.

A huge pool with 25% of the blocks could do a 10 second block vs 600 seconds that would not be unusual due to their hash amounts.  How many of those 10 second blocks are empty ?

a 25% pool makes 36 blocks a day or one every 40 minutes if they do a 10 second block every once in a while it will be empty.

14165  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining USA/DE 255 blocks solved! on: May 02, 2020, 11:50:55 PM
I have a few random questions please bear with my noob'ness and lets get through this Cheesy

Ok so Ive been mining for like 4 years now but always in a pool. My equipment is well past paid for so I've decide to go solo and try my luck because electricity is free for me.
Anyway I've never really paid attention to the whole how it actually works thing, I know its like a super complex game of what number am I thinking of and I've gotta pick a lower number and whoever picks the lower number first gets the block reward.

I'm mining with 3x S9 and 3x S15

I have all my miners pointed at the 3333 address, what is the point of the 4334 and the 3335 ones?

I know what the speed stuff means but what does all the lastshare, shares, and bestshare mean? And i know its like a year or 2 odds with luck to find a block but if i find one how will I know?

Also is there a way to look up random blocks in the chain and see how much hashing power was used to find it for the sake of curiosity?

TIA

So here is my current stats for solo mining on CKpool:

Code:
 "hashrate1m": "131T",
 "hashrate5m": "125T",
 "hashrate1hr": "122T",
 "hashrate1d": "20.4T",
 "hashrate7d": "3.15T",
 "lastshare": 1588458984,
 "workers": 6,
 "shares": 449277654,
 "bestshare": 1634609272.479547,
 "bestever": 1634609272,
 "worker": [

Other addresses may work when 3333 does not work.
You can do. two and have a rollover if first stops working .

how will you know if you find one.  you will see the coins in your address Grin

you can peek here and it shows latest blocks.
https://www.blockchain.com/explorer

but you won't know what hash they had.

besides the most they have is 112th. in the form of the m30s++. since that machine has the most hash and only one machine hits the block.

Ie. you have 6 machines. when you hit your block it will only  be one of them.  so they other hash did not help you hit with the machine that hit.

How much distance from router to miner?

2 of these

with this joining them

this will give you 150 feet no issues

two of these will do 200 feet   have the switch in the middle will keep signal strong.

s17 is 2 speeds

s17pro is 3 speeds and the  most efficient model
14168  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why people run away from trading!!! on: May 02, 2020, 03:18:11 AM
Most people should not be trading. They don't have the knowledge, skill or fortitude to do it and they never, ever will. I have no idea why it's touted as the first thing people should dive into. I guess the people encouraging that are the real traders who'll take all their money off them.

I will go more deeply into this fact. Only a few will turn a true profit.

Next cryptocoins

are down from about 800 billion in 2017 to 140 billion in 2020.

The Dow Jones is up quite a bit from 2017 to 2020.

Separate trading zones can help manage risk.

Realizing that handicapping markets is an artful science and not particularly  exact.

Realize that a true whale 🐳 can toy with a crypto coin far more easily then Apple stock. The wealth is not that big.

If every chart says up for a coin. A whale can deliberately fuck with the coin especially a smaller one.

I don’t trade much since I don’t have the edge I have mining ⛏ [cheap power].

yeah with 500 blocks to go. we look like a small drop which actually will help prevent a huge drop next jump

still over 8800 price but we really need to get to 12000 to avoid large drops in the diff.

The s-19's will roll out very slowly

the m30s is $$$ and I think it is 38 watts a th.

https://pangolinminer.com/product/whatsminer-m30s-with-psu/

1980 ships in 5 days

88th and 3480 watts  is 39.5 watts short wait has some attraction

they have a video on the 30s++

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=16&v=Ze2c4YTVsJw&feature=emb_logo

they insist on 3400 watt units with a c19/c20 connection

which means  220 volts to 240 volts is okay but if you sag to 210 volts you are breaking code for constant run.

14172  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Introduces the S19 and S19 Pro on: May 01, 2020, 07:47:15 PM
They are far too highly priced.

Lets project coins at 12000   after ½ ing.

that would be 6000 now.

You don't get the gear until July 10.

if diff stays at current level and coins are 12000.

On july the unit earns 110 x 0.0904 =  just about 10 dollars a day  it burns 75-80 k-watts 2.40 at 3 cent power.

10 - 2.40 = 7.60 profit  3cent   you pay 2800 if tax is zero  368 day to break even  from July 10 which is July          13 2021
10 - 3.20 = 6.80 profit  4cent   you pay 2800 if tax is zero  411 day to break even    "     "      "     "      "  August     25 2021
10 - 4.80 = 5.20 profit  5cent   you pay 2800 if tax is zero  538 day to break even   "     "      "     "      "   December 20 2021

this is with fully flat diff and a 12,000 coin price Just don't buy the gear.

note with free power 280 days and no import tax is April 23 2021.
14173  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Over paying for hash power, why? on: May 01, 2020, 02:55:15 PM
Are you saying this to comfort yourself?  Tongue, sorry to spoil the moment, nicehash did not pay you, it was that dude over-paying for your hashrate, he paid you handsomely, nicehash escrowed the deal and TOOK their fees from you, Nicehack still owes you 18%, I hope they will repay it soon, the nicehash community should demand it, because if not they might just discard the repayment program altogether.

The way they handled repayment was stupid.

If they paid at the rate they started with it would have been over and they would not have lost the customers that they lost.

Take me for instance.  I have 2ph It is not on their pools well  58th is and 1942th is not.

When they were paying high I bumped to 400th. but kept 1600th mining elsewhere.

Obvious reason is I don't trust them very much and simply won't allow myself to get burnt like I got burnt back in 2017.

At this point in time I will most likely never trust them to put a lot of the hash I control on their pools.

But I do put a little in hopes of getting the last 18 %

and whenever they get 3x payouts I place some not all of my hash there.

I currently mine

viabtc  92%
nicehash 3%
mmpool  3%
ckpools   2%

All my gear turns a profit up to the ½ ing after the ½ ing 28 s9's all become losers about 310th

I have 1 t17 + 58 th

I have 1 s70 + 70 th

I will switch them in  a + of  128 th

so I will net lose 182th on may 11-13

I will Still have about 1800th to mine with.

587 blocks to go a nice week for mining.  price is back over 9k diff is looking to drop 1-3%

Looks like an ATH for the diff won't happen in a while  If we drop 2% to 15.5 on May 5th. The 1/2 ing comes may 12 and next Jump will be May 18-20 It should be 5-10%

Next Jump after that we should be -10%

So I see
 15.5 May 5
 14.0 May 19
 12.6 June  2

Now while that looks nice we will still need price to go to over 12k to make up for 1/2 ing

If we are at 15.9 and 9k with diff dropping

diff should and will be dropping until we clear the 12k  price level.
14177  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: I will be making some s9 space heaters. on: April 30, 2020, 11:27:19 PM
Would this unofficially be the most efficient 110V Antminer?  Smiley

well if you are willing to go with aftermarket firmware it can go under 80 watts a th. so i guess that is a yes.

I won’t use anything but bitmain firmware. But if somebody wants to see how low it can go they are welcome to it.

I have been able to drop a braiins down to 82 watts a th.

since this uses lessor fans the fans will only pull about 10+10 = 20 watts at 2800 rpm.

stock fans pull. 25 + 25 = 50 watts at 5000rpm.

the chinese fan seller has claimed he shipped the 10 fans.

so i have 1 working model in clifton

i will be able to build 5 when the fans come.

so first batch will be six units.

the russians were building a passive radiator that does 65 watts a th. uses bit fury chips.

i saw the psu in it and it is a meanwell there is a 110 volt meanwell that would work. so i think they are more efficient.

14178  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: I will be making some s9 space heaters. on: April 30, 2020, 06:32:34 PM
I am interested as well, how loud are we expecting? Not exactly thinking as a space heater but more as a gekkoscience style desk miner myself.

I have to go back and look at the build thread maybe 45db with an atx psu.

I will use bitmain software july 2019 set to lowest power it does 3300 th.

I will cherry pick boards .
I haven't owned a Sha asic since  the S5, if you plug in one of three pcie could you run a partial amount of the chips? I do remember that they were chained, so I am not sure if this is possible. Would be cool to run one at 100w (at 1/3rd the hashrate)

1 board set to -2th is the lowest on bitmain firmware I was going to use.

I think you could go lower with braiins maybe 2.7th

I have nothing to do I can play around remotely today and see the lowest board I can find. Then when I go to Clifton at. the farm the units are numbered I will know which one to pick.  this is s9 ACG it specs well on lowest setting 2 boards match out well.

this drops to freq 470 and about 3300 a board on lowest setting.
once mod is done fans will be at around 3000 rpm.  I would build it for one board and send a second board with it. the mod will not allow for a second board.  this will pull about 300 watts. depends on the atx psu you use.

here is the one I built last summer-fall
note fans are under 3000 rpm they won't go past 3000 and thus are pretty quiet but of course you can only run 1 board.
