Ethereum and Bitcoin Are Market Leaders But Not Competitors

There is no denying both Bitcoin and Ethereum are leading the charge in the world of digital currency and blockchain technology. Both projects have seen tremendous success and interest from investors over the past few years, which will be beneficial to further develop their respective ecosystems.

But at the same time, a lot of people tend to ignore the fact that Bitcoin is not Ethereum and vice versa. Nor should they be, to be frank, as we have seen enough clones of Bitcoin over the past seven years. Ethereum is doing something entirely different, which is a welcome change in the overflowing oceans of useless altcoins.

It’s that time again – our final bitcoin price analysis of the week. As we mentioned this morning, we have had a pretty up and down week, but today – so far at least – has been relatively flat. Action has remained well within our predefined range, and although we have seen a small amount of upside momentum, the real bitcoin price action (i.e. the breakout action that gives us sustained momentum and decent entries) looks like its going to wait until the weekend. Ethereum Price Technical Analysis 04/01/2016 – Short-term Turning Point

Ethereum price tested the last swing high of $12.12 a couple of times yesterday, but the bulls failed to break the stated level. As a result, there was a downside move, which took ETH/USD below a couple of bullish trend lines formed on the hourly chart (data feed via Kraken). ETH sellers took charge and succeeded in taking the price down against the USD.

The most important aspect is that the price is now below the 100 hourly simple moving average. So, if the price corrects higher from the current levels, then it could find offers near the broken trend lines and the 100 hourly SMA. Bitcoin Price Technical Analysis for 04/01/2016 – Short-Term Area of Interest


The 100 SMA is above the 200 SMA for now but a downward crossover looks ready to take place, signaling a potential turn lower. In addition, stochastic is heading south so bitcoin price might follow suit. If so, price could head back to the previous lows around $407-410.

RSI is treading sideways, suggesting that the consolidation could carry on. Bitcoin price appears to have encountered a weak support zone at $412, which might continue to keep further losses in check.

Still, if bullish pressure returns, bitcoin price could break past the 50% Fib and go for a test of the next level at $420, which also lines up with a near-term support zone.

In this morning’s bitcoin price analysis, we noted that a triangle had formed mid range in our predefined parameters, and that we would look at using this triangle to enter long towards an upside target of 422 flat if – and when – it completed. We classed completion as the breaking of the triangle’s upper channel (also serving as in term resistance) and a subsequent close above this level. However, we also noted that we were already in a trade on the back of last night’s action, and that we would wait until this trade completed (i.e. a stop loss taken out or a target hit) before entering a fresh position. Things have now matured throughout the European morning, and we are about to head into both the UK close and the mid session break in the US...
