1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: i found 150 BTC on: June 04, 2023, 04:23:32 AM
What does it matter whose wallet it is? After all, I have the dat file. all we have to do is crack the password? if this is possible i will give half of the coins inside the wallet.
AFAIK,

encryption has been added since version 2.3.0, and if you have been "found" those files and the transactions were from 2009, then this file will definitely not contain encryption with password.
If you bought it, it is most likely a fraud, as its contents have been manipulated to show the public key for these transactions, and even if you find the password, you will not find the private key for these addresses.
1422  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Outdated Electrum Wallet: My Experience. on: June 04, 2023, 03:56:51 AM
We need more details on this story, but definitely your problem was in the wallet settings. When you updated it, the old settings were deleted and the default settings were reset, not to mention that the Android wallet Electrum does not have all the features of the desktop version.

So I am also advising users of Electrum Wallet to update their wallets time to time to avoid cyber attack.

This advice could be true if there was a vulnerability that required a quick update, which did not happen in your case.
If your wallet has been hacked, updating it will not enhance your security.
1423  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.4.4 Released on: June 04, 2023, 03:45:11 AM
Do you mean in the Android app? TBH that functionality in kivy might have been accidental... What exactly is your use case?

New updates are pushing users to the importance of privacy and security, but sometimes some of them complicate the user experience.
1424  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to disable Replace-by-fee on: June 04, 2023, 03:39:10 AM
ilib, are you sure that Bitpay doesn't accept RBF-enabled transactions?
There is no logical reason for that, and they do not accept zero confirmation transactions.
The feature of not activating RBF is always found in casinos, as they try to speed up the deposit process so that the transaction is accepted with zero confirmations and wait for withdrawal after confirmation, and thus the user experience is fast, for the success of this, the transaction must not support RBF.

In the case of Bitpay, and because the service is a payment gateway, you must obtain one confirmation before doing anything, so using RBF will not change anything.

@ilib Bitpay has a history of shady activities try using an alternative company.
1425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do not rely on articles as resources to learn Bitcoin on: June 02, 2023, 08:01:24 PM
will lock this topic, I hope that the message has been received, because I get annoyed when someone attaches a link to a newspaper or advertising sites as a source of information.
1426  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Danger of posting your bitcoin address online on: June 02, 2023, 07:35:36 PM
You will need to share your address with someone, and once you share it, they can send it to third parties, and so on. The wisdom of your words should be advice to enhance privacy, as Bitcoin was not originally designed to be highly private, but rather highly transparent (Pseudonymous).

Tips to enhance your privacy are as follows:

  • Do not reuse your address.
  • Use an open source wallet enables you to connect to your own full node.
  • Manage a full node through Tor and use a block explorer within Tor.
  • Use address control feature.
  • Do not link your address to any central platform or use mixing services to break the link.

avoiding publishing your address, it is closer to stopping using Bitcoin, because you will not guarantee that it will spread on the Internet.
1427  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What should you look for in a DEX? on: June 02, 2023, 05:32:02 PM
True DEX mean that the code is open source, you download the exchange file, and have option to connect to other nodes via Tor other than this the word decentralization is really questionable.
It is true that there may be platforms that do not require KYC or are distributed, but they are centralized.

This site: https://kycnot.me/ helps you to select decentralized exchanges, you can read about the service you want to use and their features. If you are looking for a decentralized exchange, it is because you want one that would never request KYC from you, and you'll always trade without submitting any personal data to them.

You can rely on this site as a search tool, but do not trust the platforms listed on it. I think they were putting BetterCallRaul.it among the recommendations, which we discovered in the end that they are a scam, although it is clear that those who run the platform are not that professional.

1428  Economy / Economics / Re: What is your personal debt reduction method aside the debt snowball method? on: June 02, 2023, 05:22:58 PM
Falling into debt is a trap, and no matter how hard you try to overcome it, the harder it is to get used to falling into debt. The easier it is for you to take a loan from the bank or from your friends, the bigger the snowball becomes, so no matter how much you pay off your debts, you will find yourself in debt again. Debt is usually yours, meaning it is your last resort.

After you leave this habit and accustom yourself to paying it, you will find that the debts that grow or are associated with specific deadlines are the last debts to be repaid, because you will force yourself to work to pay them, and therefore you may stop eating in restaurants, going to clubs and wasting time in order to pay them off, and then be sure to finish them. Unimportant debts first, down to important debts, and so on.

This method may not work for everyone, but it works for some, and you have the right to choose the appropriate method for you according to your circumstances, but do not return to take a debt again.
1429  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.4.4 Released on: June 02, 2023, 05:13:15 PM
As expected, they did not restore the ability to copy wallet seeds without having to type them manually. I heard a lot of complaints from members here about the latest version. I hope this version has solved all the problems because I stopped using Electrum a month ago and I'm thinking of returning to it.
1430  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Withdraw your funds from Gate.io on: June 02, 2023, 04:10:42 PM
Sad to see one more big exchange going bankrupt or the CEO running with money or whatever.

I think you misunderstood, the CEO who escaped is Multichain's CEO not gate.io's CEO and even the platform's possession of FTM and MULTI tokens is about $219,150 and not the amount that will cause the platform to go bankrupt.

Today's report, Total Assets have decreased $1.58b yesterday was about $1.64b
1431  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Qredo Unveils Its New Self-Custody Wallet  on: June 02, 2023, 04:02:49 PM
why won't I want to control 100% of my private key. I lost my private key of a wallet in 2021 last year due to renovations on my parents home . This made me cautious and felt keeping the current one in my e-mail was safe from loss

You can buy some Metal Seed Storage with HW wallet and thus ensure that it will not be lost against shocks, burns, ... etc. a good review can be founded here https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/ and distribute more than one copy in places you trust, thus ensuring that you will not lose it.

If you are afraid that someone will discover it, then use the passphrase option, which is an option that enables you to create several accounts (standard wallet and hidden wallet) for the same wallet seed, so that the standard account does not contain bitcoins or a small amount, and the other contains your bitcoins, you can keep passphrase in a separate place.

1432  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: 12 word vs 24 word seed on: June 02, 2023, 03:45:06 PM
How to generate a 24 words seed with a passphrase ? I just tested to select "add words" and put a password when I import a seed but it's impossible to click on next.
According to this https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/electrum/commands.py
we have

Code:
@command('')
    async def create(self, passphrase=None, password=None, encrypt_file=True, seed_type=None, wallet_path=None):
        """Create a new wallet.
If you want to be prompted for an argument, type '?' or ':' (concealed)
        """

so command is

Code:
create(passphrase=YOUR_PASSPHARE_HERE,seed_type=None)

If GUI option does not work, then this code will work.

I do not advise you to try, it is a double-edged option. It is true that you will enjoy the maximum safety, as it is very very very impossible to brute force 25 words, but on the other hand, the possibility of missing or not correct arrangement of these words is higher than 12 words.

12 words are safe against bruteforce attacks and passphare is extra security vs physical attracts but24 words seed with a passphrase are complicating the recovery mechanism for no additional benefit.
1433  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which app or software to track gains and losses? on: June 01, 2023, 03:11:39 PM
CoinGecko  is the best application that enables you to track your balance in many  cryptocurrencies and prepare a custom list, but I prefer that you set up your tracker manually using Excel, start creating your track spending from this code https://github.com/KarmCraft/crypto-balance-excel-sheet

you can ask a developer to modify a part to include new features, it's a better solution than a monthly paid feature.
other trackers
  • CoinTracking
  • CoinStats

the best tracker was Blockfolio but they went bankrupt and closed their business so doing it manually using excel is the best option.
1434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ukrainian movie mentions Bitcoin! on: June 01, 2023, 03:06:26 PM
Unfortunately, the mention of Bitcoin comes accidentally or is associated with strange technology or money to buy on the black market or it is an investment solution that makes you rich or other things far from why Bitcoin was created.
I hope that the films will touch on some technical things or the real use of Bitcoin so that the user will receive better information.

I want to watch some movies and documentaries, what are your tips?
1435  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A opinion on regrets on: June 01, 2023, 02:52:28 PM
Look at the best currencies in terms of development, adoption, decentralization, people's willingness to buy them and a lot of factors. You will find that Bitcoin is the first choice.

These currencies are like seasonal currencies, it is true that they make a lot of noise, but their effect soon disappears and people search for new currencies, for nothing but that they help them:

  • Buy more bitcoin.
  • Make a profit from enthusiastic investors.
  • Show that they have investment knowledge.
  • Get free money from investors who are attracted to advertising campaigns on social media.

1436  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: offline air-gapped electrum on: June 01, 2023, 02:07:24 PM
Thank you, thought about this after posting the question also.  All makes sense now, the offline wallet always can be 'zero' because its only job is to sign transactions.  It does nothing else.

To understand it more deeply, you need a private key that enables you to sign transaction. That private key in the case of air-gapped was not and will not be on a device connected to the Internet, after you prepare the air-gapped and download electrum, you create a new wallet and get 12 wallet seeds.

from your seed you will get master node that will generate many if child private keys (Xpriv) then you can obtain the master public key (XPUB,) which enables you to manage and generate new addresses, all of which can be controlled by those seeds. This process is generated without the need to connect to the Internet, but if you do it in an environment connected to the Internet, no one will be able to access to your private key. Safely use that master public key in any online environment to check your balance or generate new addresses.

How to obtain it was explained above.

That public key starts with Xpub

Edit thanks hosseinimr93

The master public key starts with xpub, only if your wallet is legacy.
If your wallet is native segwit (which is the default wallet type, when you generate a new wallet on electrum), your master public key would start with zpub.
1437  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Qredo Unveils Its New Self-Custody Wallet  on: June 01, 2023, 01:17:10 PM
I am surprised at the difficulty of taking responsibility for writing 12 words and keeping them, as many platforms invest in such services.
As I stated previously, Ledger Wallet has not moved towards *encryption* cloud services. There is a demand from users for such services. They fear for their money, and these companies embellish some technical terms to suggest to the user that his money is safe and that he can access it at all times.

@She shining These services have found a market and are trying to exploit it. All of these services are fraud and at some point a hacker can access your money. If you are not willing to manage your private keys, it is better to use banking services. At least your money is guaranteed and here no one guarantees you. .
1438  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Withdraw your funds from Gate.io on: June 01, 2023, 01:04:37 PM
According to CMC https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/gate-io/ Gate IO has a Total assets of $1,240,248,607.51 with BTC 30.11%

150 million is not supposed to cause panic, but 27% is from other assets and the factors that I mentioned, so I do not rule out that the matter will develop.
Their exposure to both the FTM and MULTI tokens is about $219,150
This data can be tracked here https://defillama.com/cex/gate-io

Prevention is better than cure. If you have a significant amount, withdraw it immediately and do not keep it in a central exchange.
1439  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are your bitcoin May/June price analysis? on: June 01, 2023, 12:35:40 PM
I found some articles that speak more accurately, the language of numbers may give us a negative perception of what will be on the price during June.

Quote
Over the last 14 years, the highest average return for Bitcoin price is roughly 38% in November. Following this is 36% in April and 26% in October. Likewise, quarters one and four display the best returns for Bitcoin price. A simple conclusion from this would be that the first and third quarters are typically the best time to invest in cryptocurrencies.

Source fxstreet

As noted, the rate of increase, on average, was about 7%, which is the lowest rate of increase during a month in the average history of Bitcoin, and there were no worse months than it except in September and August.
The second trimester is usually marked by timid changes.
During the last 3 years, the month ended with a negative closing, either with a large or slight negative change, which confirms that the negative May closing is a confirmation of the negative June closing.
1440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning]: New Bandit Stealer targeting crypto wallets on: June 01, 2023, 10:12:45 AM
I did not understand the extent of the danger here. Suppose the hackers were able to call runas.exe, obtain administrative privileges,  was able to search for a path and find the appropriate path like

Code:
%appdata%\electrum
all what will get is the wallet file.

In most wallets, that file is encrypted with a password. Hacker still needs to know the appropriate password to access your coins to brute force it, or did I miss something? to call runas.exe, it needs to download the program, meaning that random clicking alone is not enough to endanger your device.

Whatever the reason, storing a lot of bitcoin in a hot wallet is behavior that may lead you to lose them, no matter how careful you are.
