If someone could linkify the usernames (forgot who did it last time... Leo?) that'd be great.
Just had a power cut. I'll do it once I'm back up and running.
14362  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase eth fork question on: January 14, 2019, 09:13:20 PM
Yes well I think so after the ethereum fork your amount of ethereum would still be intact but you would be airdrop the new altcoin

There is no new altcoin. The upcoming Ethereum fork (Constantinople) is an upgrade only, not a split in to a new coin. It plans to implement 5 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). The upgrade aims to (very simply) make several things you can do with Ethereum more efficient and therefore cost less fees, and also continues the progress towards Proof of Stake.

You don't have to do anything with your Ethereum, regardless of where it is stored.

You can read more about the upgrade here: https://github.com/ethereum/pm/wiki/Constantinople-Progress-Tracker

This is some incredible investigative work. Even if these accounts are not owned by the same person, they are owned by the same two or three people who farm accounts, abuse bounties, and promote ponzis/scams for their own benefit.

Very interested to hear the response to this.
14364  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism as a result of cultural differences on: January 14, 2019, 07:40:57 PM
Even the 'cultural' description on those students are wrong from my pov.
I mean, even if your culture has no such thing as plagiarism, I would still think the old saying "When in Rome" would apply. When you want to get involved in a new community, it is wise to learn their customs before doing so.

However, given the vast number of "Why was I banned" threads that appear in Meta, and that >99% of them are because of plagiarism, I do think a red text warning below the "Post" and "Preview" buttons would be helpful.
14365  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: January 14, 2019, 12:14:20 PM

As of this morning, I now get 4 votes. Tongue

@theymos: should the custom trust list of a banned user be deleted? If I understand correctly, their existing inclusions still count towards voting.
I think that would be sensible, not just as a punishment for being banned, but also so we don't see an ever increasing number of abandoned accounts with static trust lists. If a well trusted member goes rogue, we could be in a situation where we are permanently relying on other DT1 exclusions to keep them off DT1 thanks to unmaintained trust lists.
14366  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: January 14, 2019, 01:31:25 AM
I assume both can be used in full, i.e. using the 250-votes doesn't reduce the number of available 10-votes (or maybe I should call them "ballots" to not confuse with the person getting the votes).
I think you're right. I had assumed the opposite - a combined total - but on re-reading theymos' post, I am probably mistaken.

Lauda gets it.
Which one?
14367  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: January 14, 2019, 01:20:52 AM

Presumably they could also have some combination of 250-votes and 10-votes to bring them up their earned merit limit.

My question is, let's say a hypothetical user with 10 earned merits has two users on their trust list, and both these users are one vote away from becoming DT1. How does the system decide who gets it?

14369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of hacked brainwallets !!! on: January 13, 2019, 09:12:07 PM
There is a thread here (Collection of 18.509 found and used Brainwallets) with a pretty good discussion going about used Brainwallets, including a link to a collection of almost 19,000 used Brainwallets and their corresponding passphrase: https://eli5.eu/brainwallet/index.html. It doesn't show the private keys, but you can easily work them out for yourself from the passphrase if you want.
14370  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism as a result of cultural differences on: January 13, 2019, 08:11:48 PM
Your point is that some people are educated in a system where plagiarism essentially does not exist, and so coming here they do not understand it. I'm going to go off on a slight tangent here, but I hope you will indulge me while I make my point:

In my professional life, NSFW does not exist. I work in healthcare, and so am exposed to nudity, blood, guts, gore, malnourishment, injuries, deformities, military causalities, death, etc, on a daily basis. I write and review for journals, attend and present at meetings and conferences, lecture students, teach on courses, discuss online, and have never once seen or used a "NSFW" tag, even when the content includes some of the most horrific pictures imaginable. This is the standard that my colleagues and I live and work by.

However, I have the common sense to realize that if I am approaching a new medium of discussion, that it is wise to familiarize myself with and adhere to their rules, as these rules may be different to what I am accustomed to. If I went around sharing pictures of severed limbs and other such things that are commonplace in my day-to-day on this forum, then I would be banned and it would be entirely my own fault.

I'm afraid I have very little time for the people who protest their ban by pleading ignorance. It takes all of 5 minutes to read the rules.

2 different addresses  Huh

Yes, but S_Therapist admits in this post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5096681.msg49212865#msg49212865) that utlptc is his other account, and the one he initially used to buy the S_Therapist account.

Edit: *used to buy the pkmoney account. My mistake.

I mean, yes, you could do all those things for increased security. But it would be safer, easier and cheaper to just use any old laptop/PC you have lying around, remove the WiFi card, format it, install an open source OS of your choice and run it as an airgapped wallet. Or if you want a really easy option, just buy a hardware wallet.
14373  Economy / Reputation / Re: S_Therapist = mdayonliner on: January 13, 2019, 03:55:25 PM
I suppose you need forum account to buy account which means that you have at least one more account somewhere.
Yes, it's - utlptc

And you've been using it to cheat on forum giveaways:

Bitcointalk username- utlptc
BTC add- 3QgPV499xYx2e2seerY1ct3tM9xB8dGpZQ

Bitcointalk Username- S_Therapist

14374  Economy / Reputation / Re: S_Therapist = mdayonliner on: January 13, 2019, 03:44:17 PM
he visited once. I bought some BTC from him and he paid cash to me.
If you bought BTC from him, why was he also paying you in cash? Regardless, you just said earlier in this thread that he visited you to pay back the loan you had given him:

Anyway, after taking the loan he was one or two days late to pay me back, I was waiting and saw his account was not logged in for few days too. So I called and he said his account got hacked but he will give me the money back. Which he did by the way. He even came to my house to see me.

Which is it? He visited you so you could buy BTC from him or so he could pay back his loan?
14375  Economy / Reputation / Re: S_Therapist = mdayonliner on: January 13, 2019, 03:36:16 PM
-snip-

Which is why I said "consistently". You said he's only been to your house once, which would explain his IP matching yours once. If his IP matches yours consistently, then we know you are lying.

But as I said, IPs not matching doesn't prove your innocence.
14376  Economy / Reputation / Re: S_Therapist = mdayonliner on: January 13, 2019, 03:30:39 PM
If the boss will look at their IP history it may be confirmed or not.

This is easily avoided by using different VPN servers for each account, using one account on PC with landline/fiber and the other via mobile data, using one account only via Tor, using one account over public or neighbor's wifi, etc.

If the IPs are consistently the same then it proves it, but if they are different then it doesn't disprove it.
14377  Economy / Reputation / Re: S_Therapist = mdayonliner on: January 13, 2019, 03:09:33 PM
S_the.... respected me a lot
This certainly doesn't sound like someone who "respects you a lot":

It really hurts when someone accuses which is false. You will not feel better when someone will accuse you an alt of a ponzi promoter which is almost frowned upon here.

I remember I advised him not to hang out with me on the forum, not to comment in any of my post or support me coz I was noticing after my reg tad my bed wishers were also attacking the people who supports me.
If you were trying to maintain a degree of separation from him, then why do you keep sending him merits?

I just left 4 merits for S_Therapist here.

Is this the other account in question? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=156044
14378  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: security window 10 Microsoft have access to my priv. keys. on: January 13, 2019, 01:29:37 PM
Windows 7 is an old operation system which shouldn't be used anymore. It lacks security updates and support, so you will likely have security problems.

Windows 7 is old, obviously, but is actually still supported and will continue to receive security updates for another year - until January 14th 2020: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsforbusiness/end-of-windows-7-support

Having said that, I can see why people don't want to move from Windows 7 to 10. As we've seen in this thread, Windows 10 is an absolute privacy nightmare. Even if you are completely unfamiliar with linux, you have a year to learn before Windows 7 is no longer updated. That would be a better option than upgrading to Windows 10, in my opinion.
14379  Other / Meta / Re: Show your trust list! on: January 12, 2019, 11:02:56 PM
Nope, that is not what I am saying. I am saying that if user A excludes user B in their trust list but don’t have any feedback given on the user B profile. Because by excluding them from your list, it means you basically don’t trust them, so why no feedback given than?

Not at all. Feedback and trust lists are two completely different things.

Leaving feedback for someone is a statement of whether or not you would trust them in a trade. Adding or excluding someone from your trust list is a statement about their judgement of others. There are users on this forum with whom I would trade, but I would not necessarily trust their judgements of others. Similarly, there are users on this forum who I would not trade with (without an escrow), but whose judgement of others I trust to be accurate.
14380  Economy / Reputation / Re: [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source on: January 12, 2019, 10:18:38 PM
Some merit sources have spent hours or even days of their time searching for good posts to merit over the last 11 months, and have received absolutely nothing in return other than a warm feeling inside. Actually, that's a lie - they do sometime receive abuse or accusations that they are "insider trading" or part of some "inner circle", or that they aren't doing their "jobs" properly and missing hundreds of great newbie posts.

I'm afraid I'm with suchmoon on this - complaining you feel undervalued after finding 2 posts (both by users with a fairly solid history of gaining merit) is cringeworthy at best and self entitled at worst. This thread shouldn't be seen as an exercise to gain merit for yourself, but rather as way to help build the community. If you consistently contribute, then you may gain some merits yourself.
