14401  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your thoughts on regular betting vs exchanged betting vs mutual betting on: October 23, 2018, 08:21:42 PM
I've dabbled in a wee bit of "arbitrage", usually betting on regular bookie and then checking those mutual odds to see if anything spikes closer to the game or even during. Doesn't net very much in my experience as the limits are usually low (at least on 1hash as I recently tried).

Haven't been very lucky to hit the big ones but 1 or 2% bets worth about BTC 0.001 or so in profit always gets you a small sense of satisfaction. Not worth the trouble... In the end if you're regularly betting you tend to stick to bookies you know settle quickly and pay out fast.
14402  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Free Betting Competition $6000 in Prizes Sponsor: Betking.io (Discussion Thread) on: October 23, 2018, 08:09:05 PM
Ah, great run guys for week 2. Did my best and would have won a bit more except that I placed some bets on other bookies with slightly better odds but still happy with progress.

Still have an issue with betting from mobile though... No computer access today so couldn't place any bets - I get the same error "no bets accepted from your country". Might try a different browser tomorrow.
14403  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What places do you do your shopping online ? on: October 23, 2018, 06:10:07 PM
Might be a thing to check but seek out services people always use... Pay bills? Order food online? I use a delivery service practically twice a week now (thuisbezorg is one in the netherlands for example).

Be great if you could add abitsky or one of those bitcoin travel sites. 5% cashback on travel tends to be a big amount.
14404  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-10-22]Bitcoin Price Becoming Less Volatile than Amazon Stock: CBOE Analyst on: October 23, 2018, 08:52:08 AM
Time will tell? Didn't realise CBOE had hired Sherlock. No one's tired yet of taking some current snapshot, stripping out all the context, and then picking a random orange to compare with an apple?

For sure Bitcoin is maturing, but I'm not sure price will follow that. Not when there's so much to be made and lost on price speculation.

Doge has been more stable than most crypto, trading for years in the same range vs Bitcoin. Maturity indeed. Should we start comparing pears as well?
14405  Other / Off-topic / Re: Writing a book - suggest some advice for getting started! on: October 23, 2018, 08:36:11 AM
A favourite author of mine is Asimov, particularly his short story ensemble... Sometimes I feel he gets so little exposure outside because of his sci-fi tag, but I think there hasn't really been any distaste for short story anthologies... And I can't wait to read something solid related to perhaps Bitcoin or who knows, maybe even cypherpunkery.

Methinks a lot of untapped material that would work pwrfectly for the short story mould.
14406  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2016/17 on: October 22, 2018, 11:56:42 PM
The ‘No Ronaldo, No Party’ theme continues this season for Real Madrid. They’ve just lost again!
As a Liverpool fan losing in Kiev hurt, it hurt a lot so I’m enjoying seeing Real struggle at the moment. They are a spent force without Ronaldo it seems.

Missed the news, strangely, only headline I recall was Barca ploughing through even with stars injured. Definitely feels sweet to see them suffer, if they continue at this rate they may not even see Champions League action next season. And that, would be good to savour.

Personally thought the Ronaldo effect was overplayed, also thought Bale might step up for his sake.

Wrong on both counts, happy to be.
14407  Economy / Exchanges / Re: A question about Bithumb's new promotion on: October 22, 2018, 06:28:52 PM
Been quite a few articles written about these sort of promotions. Mainly to do with wash trading to take advantage of these promotions. Apparently, they don't even mind if you're deliberately doing wash trading, since the inflated volumes help them gain ranks on charts. Higher the ranks, more prominence, more likely to pull new clients.

Say what you want, but they do seem to be making the desired waves.
14408  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: We need BTC payment gateway for tor on: October 22, 2018, 01:33:43 PM
Coinpayments have an hidden service (onion) url available.

He should expect to have his account closed and his funds taken away If he the website he's building is meant for something illegal.

In fact, he could expect the account to be blocked in any event using a 3rd party service, and they will provide an excuse if he's "lucky", any arbitrary reason is enough according to most terms of service. I'm sure many merchants, legitimate or not, will have experienced something of the sort.

Just grit your teeth, get things done yourself. The learning curve should be overcome fairly quickly with open source solutions with good community support like BTCPay server... Any business wants to do it seriously will have to consider this route sooner or later.
14409  Economy / Speculation / Re: What rate is crypto market cap adding alts? on: October 22, 2018, 11:41:58 AM
All centralised tracking services do it the same way... Some basic criteria as a guideline, but ultimately down to the discretionary judgment of the guys behind it. Just need to search for those "unhappy" with CMC's seemingly discriminatory exclusion of some data to understand that what you see is not and will never be the correct picture... Or the full one.

Not an issue for me, or for most. It's a public service and they have their agendas and objectives, not necessarily pandering to ours.
14410  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-10-20] Crypto deniers trot out the same tired, stale arguments on: October 22, 2018, 09:00:15 AM
" Overall, Roubini believes that: cryptocurrencies are not money; they are not scalable; they are controlled by criminals and nefarious governments; they enable tax evaders and money launderers; and they’re dangerous because they don’t come with some kind of government-backed deposit insurance. "

This covers most of the myths about Bitcoin, but they left out, Funding terrorism / High electricity usage / Used by Paedophiles...

What did I forget? What these people are not telling you, is that most of these things are equally true about Fiat currencies and in most cases even more true than with Bitcoin. A lot of the things that are said about Bitcoin is totally exaggerated and fabricated by it's competitors.  Angry

Just about everything the Internet and open source software had to deal with too when they first came out and threatened current hegemonies.

They also left out communism and anarchy, or whatever undesirable politics modern democracy does not prefer. Funny that we are always told about the dangers of not being government backed when we have seen in this new century how dangerous government backed money has already proven to be. Have we forgotten about the lives destroyed in Greece?
14411  Economy / Gambling discussion / Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +445.07 units | 53 bets on: October 22, 2018, 07:42:56 AM
Would have been a nice way to kick off the Premier League restarting, but Fiorentina HAD to slip up and concede a goal after being given a generous penalty lead. All other games turned out to be comfortable wins in the end, but such is the risk of the parlay.

Monday night action, we'll back the home teams in Italy and England.

Game 1 Arsenal vs Leiceister. Arsenal WIN @1.58. BCR: 1.58

Game 2 UC Sampdoria vs US Sassuolo. Sampdoria WIN @2.18. BCR: 2.15

Parlay for 110 units (1 unit = 1,000 satoshi) Betking @3.44. BCR Parlay 3.407
Odds advantage: 0.97%
Units advantage: 3.3 units

Running units advantage after 53 bets: +445.07 (+3.3)

Running units after 52 bets (21W|31L): +2,407.81 (-110 units)
14412  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 22, 2018, 07:23:41 AM
So if hahay or ralle get max points tonight, they'll end up as Yellow Cap winners with only 12.5 points. Definitely a tough week for everyone, you 5 guys who picked Everton at 2-0 must have been wishing you'd only watched the last 10 minutes!

@LFC nah I didn't watch any games on the weekend, no TV or fast internet, but watched live updates. So you can imagine how doubly infuriating it was. Awesome tix you got, I'm just glad Mo got his goal so he can help thump Belgrade.

@hilarious I had a 4-leg almost similar to yours: Everton, Mochen, Fiorentina and Lazio though: over 8/1. It was going so well too, Fiorentina was the last game to conclude and that 1-1 killed it. Be a fool to back Leicester on the basis of Arsenal's form, but football is football Wink
14413  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ship a large order of miners without an address on: October 21, 2018, 04:31:33 PM
Residential absolutely fine. You probably will actually only get a card requesting you pick the shipment up yourself at a holding warehouse. Been the same for all electronics I order above personal/consumer electronic limits. Probably where you settle customs as well if there's any.

Or, as suggested get a drop shipping service. They'll still need kyc these days though, depending on where you're at. Where I lived, you could rent business or residential addresses with someone to sign.
14414  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-10-20] Bitcoin Volume Nears Annual Low Again as Crypto Market Loses Over $ on: October 21, 2018, 02:05:16 PM
Article starts off by saying another 15% drop and it would be at a new annual low. Can't be bothered to check if that's accurate, but if we're at 15% above old lows, we're not really approaching anything. A lot less flesh once we're starting to ask Bitcoin to "demonstrate its strength" again, as the writer puts it, and he's ignoring all that volume that's picking up and off the charts he's using - p2p exchange, for example. Or those exchanges on off-chain transactions.

Once LN gets underway, this volume might even drop. That might actually be because Bitcoin's flexing its strength...
14415  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 21, 2018, 10:30:06 AM
I’ve had a crap day for my predictions. I’ve somehow stayed in 2nd place but I did really badly. I got 3.5 points today, that’s pretty embarrassing. Must do better.

So did I but seems most people did quite poorly. A lot of unexpected results. I didn't expect there to be many goals in the Cardiff game and went with 1-1 and Cardiff ended up getting their first win in the league with a 4-2 victory. I got screwed out of a perfect score on the City game with the late goal from Mahrez to make it 5-0 (as did three other players). Bournemouth screwed me out of my weekly three-fold accumulator win with a 0-0 draw. Not gonna bother watching any of the games today.

Was a good time to bet on one of those teams to get their first wins, and was it Fulham who recently had their first with a 4-0 win? Newcastle are finally getting their attacking mindset, found the nerve to go at throats but they're terribly unlucky to lose their last two games after all that. Would probably bank on their first win very soon... If football works like that.

Poor weekend for the whole league, shame I couldn't improve, so still in 27th with 6 points. 2 games left so yellow cap winner probably going to be lowest weekly total so far. Only 9th week though!

Betting on Everton on an ambitious parlay. Last night choked up on all my legs, teams just aren't as sharp after the break, goals notwithstanding.
14416  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Gradually Increased in Price in September, Case for a Bull Run in 2018 on: October 21, 2018, 10:20:04 AM
You know, with speculative markets, there's always a case for a run in either direction. Always a case, no matter Bitcoin in the midst of its cyclical bull run and bear periods, or the seeming perpetual sideway patterns it looks to settle itself in.

December pattern? Remember when January and spring patterns were upturned?

But well, money news need to make their bread too, so accept the points for each case but be aware that none of these have any bearings on what will actually happen.
14417  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin donations on: October 21, 2018, 07:55:36 AM
I'll never get why there's so much hate when people want to give away something (either for nothing or for something). I'm all for questioning motives, but let's not knock down attempts just because they have a hint of charity.

@OP Obviously, a lot of charities will qualify, but you'd need to provide some other information yourself, particularly if you don't want to remain anonymous (it would appear you wouldn't, since you're donating profits and not wealth). Answering Vod's question would be a good start.

Would you accept a 3rd party application (or a brokerage of an application?). I have a couple of small community projects I know of in need of some multi-year funding for long-term hygiene and sanitation activities.
14418  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | Sportsbook | +382.41 units | 48 bets on: October 21, 2018, 06:19:18 AM
What a bummer. Not a single one of the total shots wagers even pushed, would have made the same profit had I just gone for Under instead of Over. So much for that experiment!

We do another cross-league parlay tonight, the sole Sunday Premier League game, which the home team should win, with the Bundesliga and Serie A.

Game 1 Everton vs Crystal Palace. Everton WIN @1.89. BCR: 1.86

Game 2 Borussia Monchengladbach vs Mainz 05. Monchengladbach WIN @1.63. BCR: 1.62

Game 3 Parma vs Lazio. Lazio WIN @1.6. BCR: 1.6

Game 4 Fiorentiono vs Cagliari. Fiorentino WIN @1.68. BCR: 1.66

Parlay for 110 units (1 unit = 1,000 satoshi) Betking @8.28. BCR Parlay 7.984
Odds advantage: 3.71%
Units advantage: 29.6 units

Running units advantage after 52 bets: +441.77 (+29.6)

Running units after 51 bets (21W|30L): +2,517.81 (-110 units)
14419  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-10-19] Biggest Bank in Nordic Region Bans Bitcoin, Gets Caught for Money on: October 21, 2018, 06:08:22 AM
I'm curious about stuff like this. It seems to pop up fairly often.

There's a yawning gap between a few of however millions of the accounts the bank hosts being used unchecked by money launderers compared to someone calling the bank's CEO and saying 'Hello, can you launder some money for me?' and him saying 'Yes. That's right up our street. When you can pop in?'

Most of the time I will assume it's the former.

I remember reading this year or last, an investigave report that claimed that the hundreds of private banks they looked at actually only have a few clients on their books. They offer normal banking services to tens of thousands of other clients, running at a loss, simply to provide a legitimate front for the few that actually make them their money.

So yeah, I would like to think that for most banks, it's the case of the former, and with someone I know working in financial compliance, there is certainly a lot left desired in ensuring systems that exist work properly to keep the ship tight. Most cases found are down to negligence with compliance employees, or a lack of understanding of constantly evolving regulations. I think the latter scenario used to happen, at least in the bank's formative years.
14420  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: October 20, 2018, 01:22:26 PM
Well look at that, I knew it was too risky to bet against United after that comeback against Rafa. Two teams left unbeaten, the preferable draw result was not achieved, but any outcome would have suit us. Can't watch anything this whole weekend so just watching live stats. Chelsea's possession game not looking good or Martial on form?

EDIT: WHAT? I saw FT score 1-2 and checked again and 2-2? Desired draw achieved haha... definitely need to catch up and read what happened! Should have changed to 2-2 FTW!

I think VVD will start, Salah too. I think Mane might be rested though. Really looking forward to the football today, going to go down Ladbrokes in a bit & get all my weekend bets on (don’t hate me cos I’m using fiat bookies haha).

Probably going to have a couple of accumulators & then come back & watch a load of games on TV all day ending with the big one (Huddersfield vs the Mighty Reds).

I would never hate you for that. All of my bets in Liverpool's last Europa campaign was with fiat. In fact, be stupid not to play at them British bookies with all the enhanced odds and free bets. I started with GBP10 on a 11/1 enhanced game, used the freebet to go all in again and again all the way till the final. And that was just from one bookie, opened many other accounts throughout my stay, very tidy sum. Of course, most of it splurged on the final, which we lost, but thanks to any time goalscorer enhanced (Sturridge at 5/1 if I recall), I still had a handsome sum to keep.
