14461  Other / Meta / Re: Posting in local boards to improve language skills? on: January 03, 2019, 12:07:00 AM
Looking at posts in the German board - definitely. Posting in the German board - maybe, maybe not.

It all depends on your level of proficiency with the language. I also have enough verbal German to hold a reasonable conversation, but I would very much doubt my writing skills are up to par as I use them far more rarely, and I'm sure I would struggle greatly talking about more technical topics such as bitcoin and blockchain. I think a reasonable first step would be to spend some time simply reading in the German board to see how much you remember and how good your comprehension is.

I have no problem reading posts which aren't 100% accurate in grammar or word choice, as long as they are understandable, but I hate reading complete word salad posts where I cannot make head nor tail of what the poster is trying to convey. Only native German speakers will be able to tell you where you stand in terms of being comprehensible. I'm sure there are forums/boards/apps/etc out there for people who want to practice their foreign language skills with native speakers, but Bitcointalk probably isn't it.
14462  Other / Meta / Re: I've stopped reporting posts on: January 02, 2019, 11:14:21 PM
Still, I have to report a few hundred posts more and I can reach the 100% accuracy again (e.g. 10 bad vs. 1001 good, that's only 0,99999999% bad, hopefully 100% good Smiley ).

You are correct. The reporting accuracy always rounds up, so 99.00001% will be reported as 100%. Given you have made 10 bad reports, making 991 good would mean 991/1001 were good (99.0001%), and your accuracy would read 100%. Broadly speaking, you can make 1 bad report for every 100 good ones that you make and still maintain 100% accuracy.
14463  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S and Electrum: Which address type to choose? on: January 02, 2019, 11:06:06 PM
Legacy address form starts from 1.... and P2sh segwit start from bc1 and for native segwit the address form starts from 3...

You've got that your "bc1" and "3" the wrong way round:

P2PKH are legacy addresses and start with 1. (All addresses which start with 1 are legacy i.e. not segwit.)
P2SH nested segwit addresses (which can be either P2SH(WPKH) or P2SH(WSH)) start with 3. (However, not all addresses which start with 3 are segwit.)
Native segwit addresses (P2WPKH or P2WSH) start with bc1. (All addresses which start with bc1 are segwit.)

I think it is better to choose "p2sh-segwit (p2wpkh-p2sh)" option because you can get less fee compared too legacy and the transaction is much faster than a legacy address.

This is the best option to pick if you are unsure about which one you want - it allows you to take advantage of lower fees of segwit whilst maintaining compatibility with all services, some of which do not yet support bc1 addresses.

This website will do what you are looking for: http://www.homebitcoin.com/easybalance/

Simply paste in a list of your addresses and hit "Get Balance". It will give you a list of individual balances and a total balance at the bottom. The list of addresses is saved in between sessions, so you won't have to enter it again each time. The only down side is it takes a little bit of time to load all the addresses, especially if you have lots of them. As it says on the page, you need to add in a delay between checking each address (under "advanced" options) so you don't flood the service and get IP banned.

There is also this site: https://bitref.com/

This will show you a combined total balance of all the addresses you paste in, as well as the last 50 transactions from your combined address list, but won't show you individual balances per address.
14465  Other / Meta / Re: Forum suggestion for countering low quality on: January 02, 2019, 09:53:49 PM
It'll be wrong to say"ok newbies you aren't allowed to earn via posting" but other ranks are

We already say that. Newbies are not able to display a signature since theymos introduced the "Enhanced newbie restrictions" back in September: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030366.0. Newbies must now earn one merit to rank up to Junior Member prior to being able to display a signature. I think that's perfectly fair - why should someone be able to create an account and immediately start being paid to spam the forum with trash? If you want to earn money form your signature, then you should first have to earn the right to display a signature.

If stricter measures are to be put in place will they also apply to high ranked members who only have air dropped merits and haven't earned any

Newbie spammers far outnumber spammers at higher ranks, but I agree this should also be addressed. As I've said before, changing the requirement from 1 merit to 1 earned merit, or ideally 10 earned merit, would achieve this.
14466  Other / Meta / Re: A different approach to solving the sig spamming problem. on: January 02, 2019, 09:39:26 PM
Rather than all this, we could have a simpler solution, where you lose 1 merit for each activity period in which you display a signature.

This is actually a great idea. It prevents the earning of merit to display a signature being a "one time thing" - you can't just make one good post and then go back to shitposting for months on end. It forces users to consistently strive to make better posts to continue to be allowed to display their signature. It would vastly cut down on people buying merit as it no longer becomes profitable to continue to buy more every 2 weeks. It means the users levelling up all their alt accounts will rapidly run out of merit to send.

As bitart mentions, probably one a month rather than one every two weeks would be more appropriate. And it would need to come with an increase in merit sources, particularly in some of the local boards which get far less than their fair share of merit. But yeah, I like this idea a lot.
14467  Other / Meta / Re: Forum suggestion for countering low quality on: January 02, 2019, 08:39:30 PM
What we all must keep in mind is if we want crypto to grow, we need new people. You guys are forgetting how important this forum is. For many it is the first place to get information and learn.

Too severe newbie restrictions would be a bad favour to the entire community.

I agree with you, to an extent. You can read my previous posts in this thread to see why I also think that a blanket restriction on all newbies from opening threads or posting in certain sections is the wrong way to go. However, forcing them to meet stricter criteria to earn the right to display a signature does not prevent them from reading, posting or discussing any topic they like - "getting information and learning", as you put it. A signature is not required to participate in the forum, and those who are here for the right reasons - to learn and contribute - will have no problems ranking up and earning their signature soon enough. Stricter criteria for displaying a signature, such as either 10 earned merit or minimum of member rank, would further help to reduce bounty spam, as the 1 merit rule is already doing.

We all want crypto to grow and new people to come in to this space, but we people who are genuinely interested - not hundreds more one-liner bounty spammers who are here only to try to make a quick buck from some scam ICO.
14468  Economy / Reputation / Re: Red trust receivd as non-senses both on: January 02, 2019, 10:13:10 AM
And it is not a ponzi, you are just saying a statement based on no facts

To be fair, I believe you when you say it's not a Ponzi, in that I don't think you have the intention of paying back your early "investors" at all. I think it's an outright scam and that you will just make off with any coins you are sent. 5% weekly return works out to over 1200% per annum; 7% weekly return works out to over 3300% per annum. There is absolutely zero chance this is true, therefore you are a scammer.
14469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of addresses for major bitcoin exchanges on: January 01, 2019, 11:12:36 PM
That's even assuming a whale is stupid enough to dump a large amount over a short period of time.

Exactly. If there was a whale who owned 600k bitcoin and wanted to cash out, do you think they are going to be stupid enough to move it all and sell it all in one transaction? They know full well that kind of sell pressure would drop the price, and they would lose out on a significant amount of fiat. Any whales who want to cash out are likely doing so in small batches so the price stays relatively stable as they do. Still, logic never was the strong point of these kind of newbies who panic and scream "Bitcoin is going to crash!" whenever the see a large transaction.
14470  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Cryptocurrency tokens that pay out monthly dividends on: January 01, 2019, 11:04:39 PM
Just on out topic and not to shill out is that the only project that do pays monthly dividends is KICK coin which i do currently hold. Paying up already 2 years time as far as i remember.

There are plenty of coins that pay out dividends to their holders. Some coins pay out more of the same coin, such as XLM. Other coins will pay out in a different coin, such as NEO paying out GAS or VET paying out THOR. Then there are exchange coins such as KCS or COSS which pay their holders a percentage of the exchange's trading fees. Having a coin pay out dividends is not a novel concept, and if it something you are truly interested in, then there are plenty of established coins out there that will do just that - you don't need to take a gamble on this unclear and confused project.

All these coins suffer from the same drawback though - unless you are holding thousands of dollars worth of said coin, your payouts will be pennies.
14471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: List of addresses for major bitcoin exchanges on: January 01, 2019, 10:19:57 PM
But what are the benefits of knowing these addresses?

It can be used to debunk all the FUD posts that spring up all over this forum and other online sites whenever a large amount of bitcoin is moved. For a period of two weeks or so in December, we had at least one new topic every day posting about how "a whale" was moving 600k bitcoin, which they were definitely about to dump and bitcoin was going to crash to zero. By knowing that the addresses in question were actually Coinbase's cold storage, and they were simply moving the bitcoin from their current cold storage system to a new one, it was easy to point this out and stop the rising panic amongst all the newbies who believe everything they read at face value.
14472  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, 2019 and next halving on: January 01, 2019, 09:55:19 PM
Also, according to the chart bitcoin will not be going up in the next 2 years, 2020 ends with 3500 which is less than current price, I see NO possible way bitcoin doesn't go up at all in the next 2 years, that is impossible.

I don't see anything crazy about it if this happens, because it happened before.

Past performance does not predict future results. It is entirely possible, as you say, that the price doesn't dip any more and climbs up to $100k in the next 2 years. It is also entirely possible we fall back to $3k or lower and stay there for 2-3 years. The problems with charts like this, which try to retrospectively fit patterns to the data, is that they are only right until they aren't, and you have no way of predicting when they will stop being right. I could go and find 100 charts from this time last year which nicely drawn lines on them showing how the bull run is going to continue until $50k, which obviously didn't happen.

I'm obviously bullish long term, otherwise I wouldn't be here, but just be wary of pinning all your hopes on a guaranteed price rise within a set time frame, or reaching a target value by a target data. Prolonged bear markets have happened before, and they will happen again.
14473  Other / Meta / Re: Ideas for topic ordering in altcoin announcements? on: January 01, 2019, 09:47:40 PM
Most of the altcoins board threads are flooded with 20 pages or more with the same shit. I think an auto-lock after a certain page would probably work.

Most yes, but not all. I don't think an auto-lock is the way to go, as you will end up killing some threads that will still have interesting discussion going on. Hopefully the proportion of interesting threads will increase with some of these new measure being put in place, and so the number of "false positives" that an automatic system would lock would increase. Better instead to just have a couple of dedicated mods for these boards who can increase spam removal, which will stop many threads reaching this point in the first place, and manually check and lock the ones which still become spamfests.

Betting on United to win the CL?

Bruh....Just give the money to me, it’s the same result either way - You losing money Wink

Haha. Stranger things have happened, and this new United squad have played some very nice football in their last 3 games. I'm keen to see this new United being tested against a top team - they have Spurs on the 13th, then another run of mid- to lower-table teams until Liverpool on 22nd February.

I'm kind of nervous for them as if they lose then the media, and other fans will be calling Liverpool bottlers once again, and I don't know how that would affect the team mentally.

If the media or fans do say that, then they are idiots in my opinion. Liverpool are unbeaten this season so far. Saying they are bottling it after 1 loss in 21 games is ridiculous. Even with their impressive 100 points last season, City still lost 2 games.

14476  Other / Meta / Re: What makes a post a HQ post. What makes a post a LQ post. ? merit - lets see?? on: January 01, 2019, 09:07:43 AM
But,In the view of common forum member long post= HQ post, this needs to be changed.

Being able to break complex issues in to simple to understand points is a skill, as is being able to briefly and concisely state a point. There are some very long and excellent posts in Technical Discussion, for example, but equally some very long and utterly meaningless posts in other boards. I think some spammers think that if they pad their posts out they look less like spam, but they end up either endlessly repeating themselves or waffling a bunch of irrelevant nonsense. In my opinion, there is a very weak correlation between post length and post quality.
14477  Economy / Reputation / Re: Fix trust rating on: January 01, 2019, 08:04:22 AM
1. I offered collateral.

At no point in your post did you offer collateral. Your only mention of collateral was to state that you were going to use the loan as collateral for another loan, which is shady in and of itself:
Hi,
I know i am a noob so I hope this does not hurt me, I can provide whatever proof or trustworthiness from other sites I am more established at in a PM.

I am looking for a micro loan of .10; I am going to use this as collateral to get a loan on a mainstream bitloan lender. Then to use that to get a bigger one and after that leveraged futures. I am successful in applying a method of trading with leverage used in equity options and futures to bitcoin.

I would be willing to accept a lower loan too to establish trust and I would like to hopefully establish a relationship with one or more lenders here will who lend to me in the future on a regular basis.

I would also pay higher interest rate around 10 percent(at first anyway) and I would repay the loan within a week, if not days.

2. I insulted people who insulted me, if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen. You can't expect to be offensive and not be offended in return. Real life isn't a safe space.

A statement of fact regarding your intention to take a loan without collateral to use as collateral for another loan is not an insult. Calling people "3rd world" and "monkey brains" is.

3. I started posting less because of the psychos at this board( common enough with geeks probably because of self-esteem issues/being picked on growing up). But when I was really posting those posts were popular, it is still a popular threads on bitcointalk(up to 8 pages now). It's a sad thing that you discourage new members from participating and you treat a discussion form about a coin that is supposed to be about among other thing 'freedom;, as some nazi rule laden byzantine place.

Following the clearly stated rules does not make users either psychos or nazi. No one is discouraging you from participating, we are simply warning others not to get involved in your obvious scam attempt. Good job with getting extra insults in though - you are really helping your case.

4. I will 'leave' the forum when I feel like it (or if you crybabies ban me after this post) and then I'll make a new name(if I don't already have one made as a back-up) and post under a different IP hahahaha, muhahahahahaa.

You will not get banned for attempting to scam, which again, you would know if at any point you had bothered to read the rules. In addition to the thread I've already linked you, you would do well to read the following threads as well:

14478  Other / Meta / Re: My account was banned. why? on: January 01, 2019, 01:13:34 AM
I imagine such a place is part brothel, part call center, part boiler room scam center.

Makes sense. I could definitely cold call strangers and write complete nonsense simultaneously for maximum efficiency. I might also be able to, ahem, take part in some brothel-like activities at the same time, but a) I have no wish to confirm that hypothesis and b) I doubt there is much of a market for men in brothels.
14479  Other / Meta / Re: My account was banned. why? on: January 01, 2019, 12:42:08 AM
my head literary hurts and I need to take a break from this forum every time I read this nosense for too long.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I like to spend some time in Bitcoin Discussion looking for meritable posts - as far as I'm concerned, it should be the main board of the forum and should be filled with interesting discussions. Unfortunately, I usually just end up just reporting posts instead. But after 20 minutes of reporting things like "I don't going we will use when bitcoin" and "Government can't what bitcoin but people already some remedies", I start to question my own understanding of English. Have these people just picked random words out of a dictionary, or have I suddenly suffered some catastrophic brain injury which means I've forgotten how to read?
14480  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, 2019 and next halving on: December 31, 2018, 10:44:45 PM
I think it’s highly likely that we see low volatility & a period off accumulation for about 1 calender year.

I would say 1 calendar year minimum, but I would be prepared for 2-3 like we've had in the past. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing either. The bull run at the end of last year was based off pure speculation, and the number of scam ICOs launched was off the charts. A prolonged bear market will flush out all the people who are here just with a "get-rich-quick" mentality, and hopefully many, many altcoins will die off. Once we get back to focusing on bitcoin and its widespread adoption, then we can start to see some real growth rather than just speculation driven madness.
