14581  Economy / Speculation / Re: Segwit is comming soon, only a matter of time we explode to 1000+ on: September 30, 2016, 07:34:17 AM
Well there was some news that the "explosion" to $1000+ was caused by a bot that was artificially pushing the price up and above $1000+. I believe it will take the same kind of manipulation for Bitcoin to go above that price in a span of maybe 1 or 2 months. So everytime I see and read threads like these I just roll my eyes and consider it as hype or the poster only trying to hype. There is no crime in that but it is over done to the point that it does not make the people hopeful anymore. I prefer to hear the truth.

Market can react genuinely too, without bots. An explosion to 1000+ is possible if Bitcoin proves itself healthy and worthy. It's scarce enough to almost consider it under valuated.
However possible, the chance for such explosion is slim.

Segwit looks like a good step forward to a healthy Bitcoin where a spam attack will not make huge bottleneck in the network.
And healthier Bitcoin means a growth in value too. Since the markets were not thrilled, I expect a slow rise. And one day that would mean 1000+.
During the last 365 days the value already doubled (Even more then double: from 240-260 to around 600). It's a promising direction.
14582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What coin will rise after Monero? on: September 29, 2016, 08:31:49 AM
ethereum is always an option as long as it has fallen down not when it is still in the bubble because they will always pump it for at least one more year until people give up on it.

and as for monero i have not given up on it, the rise has stopped and also slowed down but this can change so fast too.

Interesting view on ETH. Just there's always a chance to buy in the last pump before everybody is selling. I managed to sell once a dying coin in its last pump, I don't think I can get that lucky twice.

But the reason I came back to this thread is to add one more coin to the list. A coin I never thought it could go back in such lists: Litecoin.
There are tons of news lately about litecoin, I am not sure what's cookin' there, but LTC is very present in the news lately and I've seen even talks about adding anonymity into LTC. It could lead to an unexpected rise of LTC. I don't know if this will place Litecoin back into a great ranking or it's something else, more desperate. However, time will tell.
14583  Economy / Speculation / Re: Segwit is comming soon, only a matter of time we explode to 1000+ on: September 29, 2016, 08:20:30 AM
The markets go by the same rule: Buy on the rumor, sell on the news.
However, I didn't see anything big on the market in the last 2 days. There was a 8$ rise 3 days ago, 5$ fallback 1 day later and that's it.
The market is not thrilled by this news and then I don't see how this could lead an "explosion" to 1000+.
14584  Economy / Auctions / Re: Value of Buying someone's old Bitcointalk..account on: September 29, 2016, 06:48:20 AM
Can someone explain to me the value of buying a Hero or Full member account?  Why so many forsale?  Is it even legal?

It's clearly not nice. And if found, such accounts are usually marked with negative trust. But it's not actually illegal.
The use? From scams (lending collateral, ICO or other business proposals) to signature campaigns (where the payout grows with the rank).
For signature campaigns people usually buy accounts with potential high level, to save time.
For scams the actual high levels make more sense, I think.
14585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: what would happen to the alt market if poloniex bought the farm? on: September 29, 2016, 06:43:31 AM
If Poloniex goes down, people will migrate. Bittrex is a very good alternative, for example.
Life goes on. I know that many hate the altcoins, maybe op too, but most will go unaffected.
There could be a temporary fall in the price, but it'll be temporary. However, it's a much more volatile market so people should not be surprised.

But I really hope that Poloniex will not get hacked. I have some funds there too.
14586  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is it possible to create a cold storage wallet online ? on: September 28, 2016, 08:03:37 AM
Take a look at actual online wallets, such as blockchain.info for instance. Is that possible to create the same type of online website but that allows cold storage wallets creation ?

Yes, there are already services that claim to be doing it. Xapo's vault is one example.
I don't like to tell others what to do with their money, but when creation of a paper wallet is so cheap and is so much safer, why would anyone believe online services' claim, instead of doing real cold, offline (paper) wallet?

Normally even the exchanges should keep a big chunk of their assets in cold storage, since they don't need all the bitcoin (the trades are off chain). But the Bitfinex hack shows that this doesn't actually happen as we'd think.
14587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Scalability (Serious Real World Question) on: September 28, 2016, 07:56:14 AM
Damn dude, did you just reference a scene from Avatar in regards to mining resources outside our planet? God, I hope we don't leave this rock! ROFL

Avatar was a nice movie, but it was just a Pocahontas with better effects actually.

But the owner of Tesla has such dreams and they come into the news from time to time.
He wants to mine from asteroids. And lately he wants to colonize .. Mars, I think. That was what I was referring to.

And please think better what you are wishing for. Evolution DOES happen. The only way for humans to not leave this rock is to see humans get extinct before they get to "go out".
14588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about DOGE? on: September 28, 2016, 07:42:38 AM
Dogecoin was (and it still is!) one of the best ways to learn about crypto.
It's cheap to get some to play with (or you can easily find somebody to give you a few) and understand the main concepts of ... Bitcoin (!), like core wallet, SPV wallet, transaction, tx fee, mining, pools, paper wallet, blockchain, multisig...

And Dogecoin still remains a cheap and easy way to transfer value quickly.

The community was there. It was much more fun to spend the time there than here.
And you forgot the Water for Africa (or smth like that) project.

It's not a great investment anymore, but it still remains a very important part of crypto world.
14589  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Final Diff thread prize is $75 runs Sept 25 to OCT? picks are yet to start. on: September 27, 2016, 02:22:22 PM
I think the large theft of BTC from bitfinex set the price back and from the viewpoint of big money guys show the huge weakness of btc
It is too easy to get it stolen and BTC helps the thief to get away with it.
Compare it to ETH  while it may be just as easy to steal  ETH prevented the thief from keeping it.
I am a nobody money wise in these coin games, but a big player had to be swayed by the results of the two thefts.

It's not necessarily a weakness of BTC, but a big player needs to keep big money at the exchange.
It doesn't have to be seen as a bitcoin weakness. If the exchange can this easily get hacked, I can understand why some are not eager to keep value (money or BTC) on services so weak and gave up this business.

As for the diff jumping compared to the ½ ing  the s-9 is 2.5 x better the ½ ing  is 2 x worse
scale that  against the diff of 213 on july 4 the  diff should be 266 today it is 241  so the adjustment is lower.
Many fail to see that the jump from s7 to s9  in eff more then makes up for the ½ ing.

Wow, I didn't know either that the difference between them is SO big.
Yes, if the efficiency also makes up for the halving, then indeed the price is more than OK now for the miners, no reason to force it to rise.
14590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best coin under $500k marketcap? on: September 27, 2016, 02:12:19 PM
Under 500k I'd say Magi Coin (XMG). Old coin, pretty nice community, fair coin, mined, active. I expect to rise, since it's developing.
Under 100k I don't know of any... too many too new coins...
Magi coin i didn't see this kind of coin in coinmarket cap where did you see this coin?
Check the next top 100 in coin market you can not see this kind of coin..

If you check top 100, you'll see coins with much bigger market cap than the OP asked for.
Magi coin (XMG) is here: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/magi/
It's now on position 180 at coinmarketcap. Page 2.

14592  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Why Freebitoin.in is a fraud on: September 27, 2016, 08:49:41 AM
We have been provably fair for about 3 years now. All rolls can be verified by clicking the "PROVABLY FAIR" link on both the free btc and multiply btc page.

Hm. You're right. Apologies.
I've come over quite a number of complaints that it's not provably fair, but since I don't care much of that while I have fun, I didn't check.
Whether the complains are from people good at math or from people that don't know how to lose at gambling I cannot tell. But I should have checked indeed.

14594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Scalability (Serious Real World Question) on: September 27, 2016, 07:57:40 AM
Property globally is already in a bubble though... do you think it can go higher? Luxury real estate is losing steam as well. If central banks lose confidence then this will affect the artificial stock market (FED can't even raise rates .25% and they've been talking about it for practically a decade). Last time the stock market crashed it took down real estate. The comex is a complete scam and they will not let PM's skyrocket. It would literally take China instituting an actual physical trade market with real pricing when exchanging REAL metal rather than paper IOUs.

Crypto currently doesn't have circuit breakers (and trades 24/7) unlike all other markets. My theory is that once BTC exceeds its ATH it's in unknown territory and only whales can stop its accession. If the cross-over on the ATH occurs during an event like a bank bail-in, then BTC price could go full retard. If this occurs then alts should see a boost, but if this chain reaction of bank defaults spreads then who knows what the future holds.

Would take the entire crypto market to handle all the potential users if something like that happened. And yes, your average person around the world doesn't give a shit about crypto now, but if they see BTC go up 30x again while everything else is falling, you bet their ass they will.

In 2011 I would tell my gold bug buddies about BTC and how it was a better gold. They didn't give a shit until they saw it outperforming their PM's and now they're all interested.

Very interesting theory. Yes, we are in a bubble and some of us know that.
I have a few words to add though. Property doesn't necessarily mean luxury real estate. We are more and more, the Earth is not getting bigger. And we need more food too. Buy land. And it's only one example.
Gold: while people have a big appetite for gold and jewelry, they seem to get more expensive and lower quality. My mom's rings were 24k, now everything is 18k or even less. Unless we get to mine (cheap) from asteroids or nearby planets in the near future, I don't see why the price could fall.

I like crypto a lot. You also have valid points. But try to think like the average rich guy. Is crypto on his short list? Is Litecoin on that? (Because that's where we started from).
14595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [NEWS] Litecoin is Trending on: September 27, 2016, 07:42:17 AM
1. There is NO Litecoin trend.
2. I have nothing to do with Litecoin. I had quite a lot, but they remained in my investors's hands. That's a long story....

Please allow me to disagree.
I will give you just one more example. This thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1628501.0;topicseen
It is pretty strange to me that LTC was brought there into discussion (in the same way some start same type of threads about XMR, SDC, ZCASH and others).
14596  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Final Diff thread prize is $75 runs Sept 25 to OCT? picks are yet to start. on: September 27, 2016, 07:34:18 AM
So while I did not want to run any more threads it looks like the universe has a different plan for threads then I did.

So one more last thread.  Wink

I was surprised to see this thread. But it's always a nice surprise.
I do read them and I do enjoy reading them and playing into this.

Funny how before the halving everybody was saying that the hashrate would go down and the price would go up but the complete opposite happened.

If I remember it well, the price had quite a jump last winter. The new price was good enough to cover the mining costs and since then the price mostly grew. We had 240$ or so, and now it's 600$.
The halving was expected to bring a pump and dump, but when everybody expects that, the speculators stay away Smiley There was a pump before the halving (760$?).
14597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Scalability (Serious Real World Question) on: September 27, 2016, 07:21:13 AM
My question is then, can Litecoin even handle the overflow of new users even with 4x capacity?

Why Litecoin? First of all most could actually chose gold or properties, not crypto.
Then most don't know of other crypto than Bitcoin. Bitcoin has troubles, it clearly needs improvements, but it's still the king. Most will chose it.
And there are quite a lot of altcoins, some will even chose anon coins.
Litecoin has a good blockchain, good block times, and that's basically it. Even Bitcoin is accepted in far too few places. Litecoin has a very small fraction of those. LTC is far behind BTC adoption wise. So.. yeah.. why Litecoin?
14598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH is sick again on: September 27, 2016, 07:11:39 AM
I start to believe that ETH, while it started as a pretty good idea, needs to be rethought and maybe completely rewritten. And the history shows that if such task is delayed too much, the software is doomed.

I remember Netscape browser. It was a shitty pile of bad code, although the best browser back then.
But they delayed and delayed to improve the code quality until it was a too big task.

People cry and cry the ETH code is bad. The devs seem to patch it here and there pretty quick. But how long will the patchwork hold?!
14599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [NEWS] Litecoin is Trending on: September 27, 2016, 07:02:55 AM
I was never much into LTC, but I was expecting this trend.
There was that bet that litecoin will be listed or not at GDAX. This is one of the links https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1588425.0
It was pushed to the headlines quite a lot. It made me expect that it's a too good campaign opportunity to miss it.
After it has built up nicely, now it's time to profit. Voilą.

It may be a well planned speculation, but Litecoin (and a few other coins too) really deserve(d) more attention really.
