Whitepaper is extremely vague and English is horrible.
Lol.. english is horrible and estonian? is also horrible? What did you expect? A technical explanation from a dev point of view? It was supposed to be this way. It's for normal users. Not for an expert like you who can see the matrix. A whitepaper is typically a "a technical explanation from a dev point of view". This "whitepaper" is a high-level abstract at best. Hi Jaguar, Please direct me to a cryptocurrency which, in your opinion, has published a proper whitepaper. http://www.nxtcommunity.org/nxt-whitepaperNode paper is lacking technical content. if i can understand it, then it is a weak paper Yea, the NXT whitepaper is a good example. i just think ALL NEM devs hate NODE some of you don't seem to understand the grave you're digging by blindly fervently a coin that is still technically weak. you are building up a hype where there shouldn't be any. when people see this thread, they get excited and want to invest right away! little do they know that this coin shouldn't have even been launched (in my opinion). once they figure this out, they dump and stay away permanently. then there are threads that I follow like BTCD/NEM/BBR where technical discussions are often taking place. these are the coins with the greatest potential because the community questions the developers and this provides a transparency to what the devs are doing. Here, this is the total opposite. Devs are quiet and hard to understand. 70% of posts are "to the moon" type. if this coin falls, it is because of the weak community that calls FUD/troll when people ask questions about the project. this cannot continue to happen if node is going to succeed. i hope the community understands what i am saying The NODE whitepaper was very transparent and concise vs the NXT paper, even though it was technical - they failed to comment on the unfair distribution! ! NXT is an elaborate ponzi scam. Sorry to hurt your feelings. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) what does unfair distribution mean to you? NXT distributed the same way NODE did I was pressing for details about NEM's fast exchange they keep talking about and was personally attacked in the NEM forum and that wasn't the first time either. Plz point me to the post where you've been personaly attacked ? There are no details because we don't even have the details. Unlike others we don't release shit premature.

There's a huge overlap between the NEM and NODE community which is why some of us are interested and if there are questions - we'll ask them. If there is something to say - we'll say it. I'm not actually a core dev but that's how I see it. This is actually very healthy for a community. The last thread i remember that was all positiv and delusional was NAS - and we all no where that went to. The fact is that NODE is not finished, therefore the whitepaper is not finisehd and the whitepaper states that.

Can i run the client/account on different computers like NXT? I first installed it to old laptop and tryed in new laptop, but it says that account already exist. Heelp!
NEM is not a brainwallet, but private keys are stored in an encrypted wallet on your hard drive. So if an account already exists, it is because it is already in your local wallet. Can i copy that file to other pc and delete original one? Same cituation will follow after hd failure. There should be some instructions what to do then. Lot of users, some amount of problems, don't you think? This was my point on the NEM forums if i remember right. I think they're working on in-client options that help the process of backing up your wallet. It would be neat if the client also allowed you to "restore" backup wallets too. Yes, Backup and Import/Restore are definitely going to be there.

Okay So I have a few question after reading the whitepaper. How does the network protect against sybil attacks ? It seems to me that i can get a load of confirmation if i set up a load of malicous nodes. Is it really true that the node that is about for forge broadcasts this intention to the network ? This sounds to me as if the node is screaming "Hey - pleas DDoS me" ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Is this really safe ? So the uptime is calculated from the time the nodes coms online first at which points he broadcasts to the network. What if he broadcasts a bogus date or time ? Are there any limits ? is the networktime syncronized ? In the Node will be put in the black list of IP that make invalid requests For the time will follow starting Peers and other clients then they will consider real-time connection. After all, when you first start the client, all clients are aware of the time of each client. Before generating block network checks the validity of his time But doesn't that mean that all confirmations are worthless anyway until my own node confirmed it it's put in a block ? What if i make 2 tx of my entire balance and have my army of evil nodes spam confirmations directly to both receivers ? I really don't mean to degrade NODE or anything. Just trying to understand.

Do not trust CfA under any circumstances. Keep ignoring him (I'm suprised so many people still se his messages i.e. don't have him on their ignore list) When he first started his shitstorm against NEM I told him that what he was doing wasn't cool and he wrote ma an all apologetic pm about how I'm a sensible guy and how his intentions were all good. I think you all remember what happend after that. Thread, after thread, after thread doing nothing but trashing NEM.
Even if he was serious he wouldn't deserve absolution.
Don't trust him. He hasn't turned. Just a new trolling angle.

So Nodebank is like paypal but integrated with and utilizing blockchain technology?
That's how I understand it as well yes. It sounds pretty much like any other centralized exchange but it's operating solely for NODE.
|
|
|
After reaching a minimum of confirmations, the transaction is then eligible for block generation. A minimum of how many confirmations ? Is there a number missing or does it depend on the size of the network ?

Whitepaper looks very proffessional. Will read right away - Thanks !

... Also, while nem can be first seen as the silver of nxt, looking at how the project is moving, i think it can be much more than that.
NEM was intended to be NXTs silver for like a week. That time is long gone. Go big or go home !
|
|
|
@Peligro: Block generation time is 60 seconds compared to the 100 seconds of Nxt, so it is faster but it is not quantum leap.
Is it always 60 seconds or is there a variance? If it can be made sub minute confirmation times that will be very interesting. There is a variance. The goal is to have an avg of 60 secs. Sometimes you get 3 blocks within a minute other times it takes multiple minutes to create 1 block.

Yesterday the NEM client was normal. Today it was my big surprise to find out it had been redesigned into pirate style. And pirate style is awesome!
Ive hoisted me rigger to deliver me gold! Loot and plunderings be many!
Aight, hoist the colors high! Pirate NEM is so much fun. If you have to change it, I hope you keep it on at least as one of the language options. I started a translation for 1337 but after a while i realized that that is fucking unreadable anyway ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Someone selling their stake? I am interested in buying. Will pay with NXT.
Make me an offer via pm ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Is there a beta ETA date yet?
Yeah, beta should start sometime at the end of the month if everything goes well. Shall we close this thread ? Seems like it's just another thread that's inactive.
|
|

Maybe the node should be auto-booted with a random name also (with the ability to modify the name later for those who are interested)
exactly what i suggested ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

NODE drinking game: Each time the developers tell you they're still translating the white paper, take two shots of a liquor of your choice. ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.tumblr.com%2Fc07897e0a29de0cebab231823f8734d3%2Ftumblr_inline_mt1vvhgMWe1qz4rgp.gif&t=663&c=xqvRUOL0gVxB2w) this made my day ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I don't mean to push the devs, don't let this thread stress you out. This was just funny as fuck to me.

It's like asking to launch Frosbite 3D engine before playing Battlefield ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . Nice comparison, although I'd prefer: NIS = CryEngine4 NCC = Star Citizen In all that you guys are forgetting the NEM Monitor ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) It really is too much for non tech people. It should be a Client and that's it. No matter how many different parts work inside it. Also I think it's only called Frostbite 3 no ?
|
|

yay gonna test that new alpha sweetie There's a little improvement (scrolling !) but you need to stop with this NIS/NCC acronyms. It means nothing for most people. NIS should not even be mentionned in monitor and be transparent. It's like asking to launch Frosbite 3D engine before playing Battlefield ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) . As for NCC at least write the whole words, like open "NEM community client". Joe does not know what NCC is and doesn't want to google it ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) For beta release, I think it's okay if this sort of thing is still a bit rough around the edges. After beta launches I'm sure the dev team will begin to focus more on the usability aspect of everything before the official 1.0 launch because realistically, the only people using beta will be people who are tech-savvy enough to figure this sort of thing out. I think it's better for the devs to focus on the internals and getting all the basic functionality complete before working on user-friendliness. Of course, it's still good for us to share our opinion about these things so we can document them and get them taken care of in the weeks and months to come. (And I totally agree with your sentiment as I've already mentioned this before, after the previous alpha release.) ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) This is something that the devs are aware of. It's been brought up multiple times but right now there's just more important stuff to deal with ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

This thing seems to work as fast as Ripple (or paypal ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) ) but it does have a block explorer, Ripple does not ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) It is really looking like a weird hybrid between a payment processing system and a cryptocoin, as said in OP. https://www.ripplecharts.com/#/ It's not a blockexplorer because RIpple afaik has no blocks.
