14721  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed Transaction on: July 27, 2018, 03:06:28 AM
i have a bunch of unconfirmed, from 2015 etc, ...ive upgraded the client let it sit, changed servers connected to 11 nodes and it still doesnt update fully...
when i go to view it on a explorer its confirmed etc... so im not sure what else i can do in order to sync it fully....  its incoming and outgoing transactions Huh Huh

should i roll it down to a earlier version??

first open your network to see if you have the whole blockchain_headers file.
from menu: Tools > Network
at the bottom, in the list below it shows the list of nodes and they show you the longest chain's height. it is currently 533865. above that it shows your blockchain and the last block header that you have. that number should be the same as the one that node show.
if it is not then you are not downloading the whole thing. let it sync and the problem should be fixed.

if that is not the case try creating a new wallet and restore from your seed.
from menu: File > New/restore > enter a name and then choose the correct option for your wallet type and do the restore.
14722  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My bitcoins disappeared after reopening Electrum (3.0.6) on: July 27, 2018, 02:56:55 AM
are you sure you have actually received any transactions?

this is just my guess but maybe that 0.203 bitcoin that you saw was an unconfirmed transaction that was double spent later on so you never actually received it. or maybe the private key you imported is already compromised and you did receive it but then it was spent by the other person(s) who have the key.

try using a block explorer to verify that the addresses in your wallet actually have a balance.
14723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google and Facebook go back on their position towards cryptocurrencies; Bitcoin, on: July 27, 2018, 02:51:50 AM
this was not exactly a "stance against bitcoin" to now they want to change it!

from the beginning it was all because of large number of advertisement on their platforms which were 90% ICO scams or other forms of scams such as phishing links, links to fake wallets like electrum clones, ... and a lot of people lost money because of these. and nothing has changed about them yet.
14724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin slow when you talk about moving money? on: July 27, 2018, 02:44:40 AM
there are a couple of things that are worth mentioning here.
first and most important one is the fact that Ripple is a centralized token that the Ripple group has full control over, even on your balances.
now let's look at bitcoin. it is a decentralized currency and in order to remain like that it has to be designed this way. for example if you decrease the time between the blocks (make confirmation faster) you don't increase the security you in fact decrease it. because you need more confirmation for it to be safe and also you will end up with a bloated blockchain that nobody can download ever again like ethereum and that ends up with a big centralization of nodes to super servers instead of individuals around the world running nodes whenever they want.
additionally "sending money" with bitcoin is instant. it takes about 3 seconds for the whole network to find out about your "money transfer". it is the confirmation that takes time which is about 10 minutes on average. comparing it with other centralized services like VISA the confirmation of VISA which is when a merchant receives his money in his bank for instance takes up to 3 days. so John is saying VISA shouldn't even work!
and finally with lightning network we already have instant irreversible transactions!
14725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN = FUTURE on: July 27, 2018, 02:27:55 AM
this sounds like a joke to me from someone who wanted bitcoin to rise so that he can sell his $10 worth of bitcoin and make a teeny tiny profit.
but if you have really done this then you are in a big trouble because you have made the biggest mistake of your life. you see bitcoin will rise, i have no doubt about it but i love my sanity enough not to do something like that. it is not about the long term price rise, it is about the short term fluctuations and the FUD that is always around.
for example yesterday when you started this topic price w as $8300 and now it is $7800
if you had 0.5BTC you just lost $50. you wouldn't even mind it because you know it will rise.
but if you sold your house and bought 10BTC for instance then you just lost $5000 while living on the street and while hearing how bitcoin is going to die, end bad, is fraud,... you will eventually be forced to sell if price takes longer to recover from this tiny drop.
14726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do cryptocurrency enthusiasts talk about cryptos? on: July 27, 2018, 02:21:03 AM
/r/CryptoCurrency/ is such a weird place, you can't really expect to have any sort of serious discussion there.
When you look at that sub, it seems as though it's full of children. Some of the comments are just atrocious.

Did have some some pretty good discussions over on Steemit, they have quite a lot of active Discord groups that are tied to particular groups.

unfortunately this is true about every social media platform that people could sign up on and spam in. and that is all thanks to altcoins and their pump and dumps. there is an army of bag holders who think if they advertise the shitcoin they are bag holding they can make back what they have lost so far.
if they spend half the time they spam to learning how the market works they would never lost any money anymore.

as for steemit, i personally don't like it. they mixed money with posting so it became corrupted. now whenever i see a post on steemit my first assumption is that it is a low quality post made to earn money and i prefer not to waste my time.
14727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NO! Do Not Invest all you have on Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies on: July 27, 2018, 02:14:04 AM
As in all best practices it is advisable to diversify with any type of investment. So even with bitcoins and alt.

diversification means investing your money in safe assets to reduce the risk and maximize the profit chance. and these assets have to be somewhat not-connected.
altcoins don't match this and are not suitable for diversification.
when you invest in altcoins you not only increase your risk but also you reduce the chance of making profit. not to mention that they are connected to bitcoin price and each time bitcoin makes  a big move they all go down.
14728  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: looking for 15% / day (short term trading) on: July 26, 2018, 04:22:36 AM
15% a day? Mate you are craazy, it is more than impossible and i am more than sure in that you are never goign to be achieving those numbers in less than 24 hours. Take inconsideration that we are still on a bear market, the volatility is more than high

in the altcoin market where there is at least a dozen pumps every day earning 15% profit per day is considered nothing! it is actually quite easy to do if you master the market and learn how to detect these pumps before it is too late and get on board to ride the manipulation partially to the top and make your profit.
whenever you are in doubt go to https://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/ and sort the list based on 24 hour change and see the daily pumped coins.
14729  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: DASH is fully controlled by the bears. on: July 26, 2018, 03:39:21 AM
Dash is one of the most hyped coins this is maybe why bears easily control it, dash is also very centralized coin compared to others.

Yeah the hype might be why it's going nowhere right now. Such a overdose of hype can be stunning for longer than expected!

A similar thing happened with the legal marijuana stocks in Canada. Shot off like a Roman Candle and then crashed back down and consolidated for months... waiting, and waiting. This is the time to buy usually, when you think it's hit a floor. Especially if you believe it to have a competitive value over the others.

Or, it could have just been one of those fads that got left behind after everyone realized there was greener grass somewhere else.

it will all come down to usages.
if you think there is any possibility of remote usage for a centralized coin with a dirty history of shady activities then of course go ahead and invest in it while you think it is "consolidating".
but the reality in my opinion is very simple. a pumped coin got dumped. just like that and it will not go up until it is done dumping and gets ready for another pump.
14730  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin might still crash with or without the ETF approval on: July 26, 2018, 03:11:11 AM
i don't know why some people tend to forge that we have already had this same trend before. price tends to go back to near $10k levels and be there. we tested it back in April and beginning of May and now we are testing it again. and this rise contrary to popular belief started in first week of July and before the ETF hype even started. the price would have broken $7k before the second week but the problem was Bancor was hacked on July 9th and that brought price down. then a couple of days later price started rising back up and then the ETF hype started when we started breaking the $7k resistance.

as for "crash" i believe we will have a drop not a crash. something like what we had last year with each rise which you can call "corrections".
14731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US GOVERNMENT CONFISCATES IRANIAN BITCOIN HOLDER ASSETS on: July 26, 2018, 02:59:53 AM
that news doesn't make any sense at all!
for example how did they confiscate these coins? and how many users did they belong to? was it one person doing something like a trade with a third party that they got in the middle and confiscated it? or is it from accounts on exchanges? if so which exchange because majority of them don't already allow anyone from Iran to sign up for instance Coinbase which is in US already blocks Iran.
and the title says "assets" but reports the value in BTC or was it bitcoin?!!!
14732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: banks officially lost to crypto on: July 26, 2018, 02:26:01 AM
~ for the bitcoinsect to evaluate yourself in a comparision with other cryptocurrencies.
the dollar is still your master which the bitcoin cult is using to define themselves as more valuable.

it is funny how you are blaming others for the things you are doing yourself Cheesy

for example it has always been the other way around meaning shitcoins that you bag hold are always being compared with bitcoin to "evaluate" themselves and they never compare on things that matter such as their decentralization, their merchant adoption,... instead they compare on things they can manipulate such as market capitalization, time between blocks,...
14733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Actual bull run or price crash will happen after mid- August decision. on: July 26, 2018, 02:17:38 AM
neither one of these would happen in any case.

i believe no matter what happens we are going to have a drop (and that is a drop as in a correction not a crash). and price would come down a little and start building up some foundation for the next set of rise. we are already in a bull run and that will most probably not  change.

the only difference is the drop in case of acceptance would be because of selling the news and basically a correction. but a drop in case of rejection would be the same correction but with some panic sells.
14734  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Taxation: Major Challenge on: July 26, 2018, 02:07:01 AM
there isn't just one government for the whole world doing one thing! there are 195 countries in the world each with their own government and each doing a different thing. so when it comes to bitcoin and what they consider it and how they tax it, the rules are very different and when you want to talk about them you must be more specific.

for example bitcoin is considered a commodity in US, a currency in Japan, and no idea what it is in India and is banned in Bangladesh. tax is 10-20% for US, 0 in Japan if used as a currency and i think 10% if used as an investment,,....
14735  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mike Novograts to CNBC: ‘I Think Bitcoin’s Price has Bottomed’ on: July 25, 2018, 03:50:34 AM
The absence of comments and advice might be showing that we are in a stage of confusion.

or it shows that the subject of reaching the bottom was already discussed elsewhere in multiple different topics and also shows that people don't care what some old hedge fund manager dude who advertises his BlockFi fundraising says about bitcoin price Tongue
14736  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull trap? or Bull run BTC breaks $8000 on: July 25, 2018, 03:29:11 AM
What do you think about this bull run right now? BTC recently breaks  $8000, is it a bull trap or a real deal? FOMO?
i don't know what you mean by "real deal" but it is neither bull run nor bull trap. this is basically bitcoin going back to where it belongs after hitting the bottom last month. and when a rise happens like this there is always FOMO which contribute to that rise and make it bigger.

people converting their Alts to BTC?
when you for example, go to Binance and dump an altcoin for bitcoin, the bitcoin price doesn't change! because it is not on BTC/USD market but instead on BTC/ALT market.

I have many questions right now bought BTC from $7800 should I get out? or ride this wave, It's very difficult to anticipate market now because of bitcoin ETF.
it is difficult to anticipate because you got in way too late.
what you should have done was to buy bitcoin when it was at the bottom around $6000-$6200 and was building up to rise or at least you should have bought when the rise began around $6500-$6800 not wait until last minute to get in after about a 30% rise.
14737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Receiving a transaction with bitcoin core - quick question on: July 25, 2018, 03:15:19 AM
for what it's worth you can specify a receiving amount for example when you want to "request a payment". it is a URI scheme specified in Bitcoin Improvement Protocol 21[1]. basically you create a URI asking the other party to send you a specific amount like as a merchant when you want to sell some goods and it costs XBTC you ask them to pay you that much by just clicking on a link.
for example from the BIP:
bitcoin:175tWpb8K1S7NmH4Zx6rewF9WQrcZv245W?amount=50&label=Luke-Jr&message=Donation%20for%20project%20xyz
clicking on this will open your wallet and fills the fields with the address you are paying to, the amount and a message in your wallet history saying what this payment was for.

also regarding always using the same bitcoin address make sure to read these two links [2][3]

14738  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.2.2 not working with VPN on: July 25, 2018, 03:01:03 AM
since you say this is only true in 3.2.2 then there is a good possibility that this is caused by the recent changes to the DNS resolution. in which case you might want to open an issue on github about it https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/new
although you should first make sure the problem is not with your connectivity. unfortunately i don't have a VPN to try and produce this to see if it is really a bug.
14739  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallet in messengers. Your opinion. on: July 25, 2018, 02:44:15 AM
sorry but i don't see the point of  something like that specially if you are talking about using tokens/altcoins.
for example why would i want to store my coins on a third party centralized Telegram bot where i can store them in a desktop wallet or even a web wallet like MEW? and if i needed to make a payment i just open my wallet and make the payment.

the only reason why something like that could be useful is for tipping. something like the TipBot on Reddit which wouldn't exactly be a wallet but a centralized setting where people have balances and can transfer it inside that centralized server's database no on chain.
14740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lets talk Logic! on: July 25, 2018, 02:25:34 AM
Let's talk logic!
We admit that BTC is losing it's Value
well when you start your topic by "logic" and then continue to say "bitcoin is losing value" while it is rising you just discredit yourself!

Quote
as people have fear of it
only the newbies who fail to understand bitcoin have fear of it and make irrational decisions like panic selling during a rise or selling at the bottom. and that was the drop that happened more than a month ago.
the rest aren't fooled by some online nonsense.

@ the same time governments in the middle east, started to make it easier with their master cards, prepaid ones! which easy to use and FREE! even with no fees... which shows 100% it's a war of Crypto @ ALL not only BTC!
sorry to disappoint you but the banking system in Middle East has been the same for many years and it has nothing to do with "crypto". it doesn't show anything either and altcoins are still getting dumped hard.
