1501  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 19, 2020, 01:03:49 PM
Since Bcci has a big influence on ICC decisions, we might see the world cup being postponed.  I think IPL will be played in united arab emirates probably with closed stadiums. I am not sure if it can be successful in uae or not because I don't think there is craze of ipl in uae as compare to India.

All the more reason for BCCI and ICC to target the untapped markets. UAE has quite a lot of Indians and Pakistanis and you cannot say that they wouldn't have had some influence on society's taste. Also, with the India-Pakistan tensions high, this is the perfect time to get the rivalry going.
It may also be a good time to get some Pakistani players into IPL for the entertainment quotient. Seeing how Pakistanis seem to not do anything these days without their higher than himalayas, sweeter than honey, deeper than ocean Chini friends, BCCI could invite the Chinis into the IPL too. Those would be some dream matchups.

Seriously though, UAE has some legendary venues that Indians connect to, including Sharjah. It would be a good choice for IPL. If it goes as planned, it may well be a welcome sign of normalization of our world.
1502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin was hijacked and centralized on: July 19, 2020, 12:42:40 PM
In the hall of shame of FUDsters, you are just a noob OP. These are old tactics. Blockstream is just one of the several such entities. Blockstream is the most common target because it has a lot of erstwhile Anti Big blockers and has been the most vocal in opposing Wu and Ver's propaganda. Samson Mow, Adam back etc constantly confront these people on twitter, including the BSV shills. When it comes to core developers, there are multiple other companies as well as independent developers that form what FUDsters love to refer as Core.
1503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Future of Bitcoin Technology. on: July 19, 2020, 12:37:32 PM
The problem with the future coming at us is that the authorities have too much power and they can always control it. This control is being exerted now on bitcoin with the talk about government issued crypto, which simply does not make sense. What is government issued crypto other than the existing forms of transferring money via "wire" and updating numbers on a centralized server?

Government issue cryptocurrency can never be a replacement for bitcoin. The strength of bitcoin is in its decentralized, p2p nature. We are the ones who give it value by using it. When organizations and other rich evangelists start getting involved, that is when, we have a chance that different countries will see their own benefit in supporting crypto. This is driven by the opinion and interest of general population as well as the desire for control by different governments. The media seems to be playing its role alright. Yet, the problem is with usage. Bitcoin has become a too dependent on traders and speculators while the usage is coming a little too slow.
1504  Economy / Economics / Re: How will look the world in 2100? on: July 19, 2020, 11:56:51 AM
Somehow, as people find more and more avenues for self-indulgence, they want to have lesser children.

It's not as easy as saying that women don't want children because they are lazy and prefer to spend money on pretty things instead of changing diapers.
The problem in developed countries is that everything is expensive and forces people to spend a large portion of their income on bills. If you compare a country like Nigeria, where people dig a hole in the ground behind the house and burn their garbage in it, don't have to buy winter clothes or heat the house, often barbecue or cook in wood fired ovens, to a typical western city, where you have to pay for everything, even for parking your car. The western society is based on taxes and fees on every step and it forces both parents to work, which is why most couples choose to have a single child.

My comment about people having avenues for self-indulgence isn't gender specific actually. What i meant is that men and women today have a lot else to do than follow a set pattern of getting married and settling down with a bunch of kids. Many people want to forego marriage entirely and maybe "explore" the world, follow their passion and what not. This is a typical sentiment for a lot of people in the recent middle class, living in metros in developing countries at least. Ditto for women not wanting to tie down careers multiple times for the pregnancy and early-rearing period. All these things are much more simplified in the bigger households of poorer countries.
1505  Economy / Economics / Re: How will look the world in 2100? on: July 18, 2020, 01:34:58 PM
These demographics are simply based on the fact that the fertility rates in most developed countries have kept falling. Somehow, as people find more and more avenues for self-indulgence, they want to have lesser children. In a lot of societies, this is also being seen as an outcome of the changing role of women. The replacement fertility rate to keep the population from falling is 2.1. In developed societies, the effect that growing up a kid can have is forcing mothers to opt for lesser children. The constant competition ensures that lot of women see this as a trade-off for careers (one which they are expected to take for the family).

The developing countries and mostly African countries are at a level where the main purpose of women is still to give birth to children. Its not uncommon to have families with 4-5 children. India doesn't seem to have that same issue as most families opt for a maximum 2 children. The problem is that a vast majority is still economically weaker and they may still see it has more hands for work.

So, this is possibly bound to happen. We may also see a lot more immigration from African countries once the world passes through the current cycle of xenophobia and majoritarianism. That will also be a time of reckoning for the world to actually find ways to tackle the race issue in a much more dignified manner.
1506  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the twitter scam crash the price on: July 18, 2020, 01:19:50 PM
As per twitter, this was a coordinated social engineering hack. This means that a bunch of people masqueraded over phone calls and e-mails to nudge some internal employee to divulge certain administrative privileges. More than affecting bitcoin, it does more damage to twitter like everyone said.

I don't know what it does to Jack Dorsey's endorsement of Bitcoin. I mean you already go out on a limb as a famous tech millionaire to support an anti-authority crytpocurrency and then some joker tries to hurt your company using that same thing. This must be pretty disappointing for him. That is what may hurt bitcoin, if not anything else. Its also a moment of truth for tech companies and authorities to decide that who exactly are the responsible parties when it comes to scams, fake news etc on social media and the interweb.
1507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin doesn't reach $500K in 3 years.... on: July 18, 2020, 12:58:57 PM
McAfee was the guy who commercialized Antivirus with the brand names after himself. He must have been a successful businessman at one time to have achieved that success in technical implementation as well as in clinching enterprise deals. At one point, most laptops used to come pre-installed with McAfee. Though everyone felt that it made your system "slow". People used to uninstall and use all kind of freeware like Avast, Avira and what not. I remember that there used to be almost a competition between college kids that whose antivirus can identify more malware.

He lost a lot of his investments in the 2008 crash and seems like he never recovered from the shock. At 70+, he has been one of the more polarizing and outrageous figures in crypto and later started shilling shamelessly for all kind of things if the price was right. Pretty sure that the guy has lost all his credibility. He banks on making outrageous claims about "not paying taxes" and getting into litigation. Its doubtful he actually does any of these so called acts of defiance.
1508  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: NSFW - [Idea] TikTok for Adults monetized with Crypto currencies. on: July 17, 2020, 02:32:47 PM
If there are fears of China spying on american teens and data mining with those who have this app installed on their devices,
then why doesn't the US just create their own version of tik-tok and be done with all this spying on this and spying on that. Roll Eyes
It can't be that hard for developers of silicon valley to create a platform to do this.

I think the real agenda is much deeper than the "spying" of China on American citizens. We all know US based Social media platforms are being used to spy on other countries, including US citizens... so they might be fearful that TikTok might become more popular than Facebook or Instagram or Youtube and that they might have less surveillance power over people from all over the world.

I have seen several anti-Trump videos on TikTok too and also loads of BLM (Black lives Matter) protest videos that are exposing the corrupt cops in the USA. (The US government have no authority to block content that they find undesirable on TikTok, so it is more about control... than anything to do with spy capabilities of US citizens)  Roll Eyes
Okay this really belongs to Politics & Society section now, but i would much rather trust an app from FB or Apple that are subjected to atleast some form of public oversight when it comes to privacy issues. The US congress actually summoned Zuckerberg. There have been instances when similar institutions in democratic countries have acted against their own government legislation. In India, the Supreme Court routinely pulls up the Govt. There is a constant push and pull of with the Govt on these matters.

On the other hand, when it comes to China, Good luck if you expect any form of oversight over their state sponsored companies. The chinese will use every possible naivete of democracies to gain an upper hand. You guys are no fools, but only a fool would trust a Chinese app over something from a democratic country.

A person who shows more of their (hot) body gets an edge over those who don't because it subconsciously grabs more attention.
--snip--

I know, right? Thanks man, i have been saying the same thing that its mostly boobies that get the followers. Just ban tiktok already and tell all these teenagers that they need to do things without the intention to make a tiktok video.
1509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Philippines SEC warns against crypto investment. on: July 17, 2020, 02:20:36 PM
On the surface it seems like a warning to those three operating in a ponzi manner, as judged by the officials, of course. The fillipino community is pretty active but have also suffered from multiple scams. The ICO and IEOs and bounty hunters parading these projects on their social media pages has been all the rage. That is why, the part where it says:

Quote
imprisonment of 21 years or both await those who act as salesmen, brokers, dealers or agents of entities engaged in unauthorized investment schemes

So who will they judge as salesmen, brokers, dealers or agents? The community manager who manages those telegrams. The bounty hunters who splatter twitter with hashtags and tweet-storms? A simple thing is that if the community of crypto enthusiasts doesn't find a way out of these crazy sounding ICOs that continue to lure newbies, it is always going to be ethically and legally, a grey area. The self-correction should have happened. Some of it has happened but human greed is too boundless for these effects to disappear altogether.
1510  Economy / Economics / Re: Can decentralization lead the next phase of the economy? on: July 17, 2020, 02:06:25 PM
Completely centralized planning never worked as shown by the former USSR and various other failed communist experiments. Unabashed capitalism gave us a lot of things but took our souls. People and families are resources on a continuous assembly line. Competition for survival results in a situation where the rich keep getting richer while the masses remain at the mercy of those at the top. So introducing decentralization to balance the worse aspect of capitalism, can surely lead to a more equitable setup. If Bitcoin becomes the mass currency for people to do their own business in a lawful way, who is to say that won't lead to better earning opportunities and chances for the common man.
Decentralization in the way economy is organized can definitely lead to greater and better wealth distribution. Yet, an idea can only be as good as those backing it. Unfortunately, the new, wealthy elite don't seem to care much, just like the old wealthy, elite.
1511  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Denovo (v 0.0.0) and Bitcoin.Net (v 0.4.1) on: July 17, 2020, 05:13:36 AM
Hey CE. You put a lot of effort into this. I am a novice at programming and would love to be of some small use. As a beginner, I lack the bird's eye view of how product development looks like. I have seen your posts where you have single-handedly deployed several interesting projects. The Finder, Outer project and your UI of miniscript are very interesting. They give a picture of a problem-solving brain taking a target from its beginning to the end goal. This is something i find very inspiring.
I intend to follow your projects. I have a few questions. I have some experience with working on C and Python. I can read that code and make sense of it. The maximum program size that I have ever written would be just a couple hundred lines only. How would you rate C# for someone with basic knowledge of C?? Is there a starting point you can suggest??

I see and appreciate your work, especially the way you simplify and explain things. I would love to learn from following you.
1512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: World`s First Functional Bitcoin Watch on: July 17, 2020, 03:54:12 AM
The watch seems to be a good idea along the lines of physical coins and other such merchandise that is popular amongst bitcoiners.  The article says that a maximum of 500 of each men's and women's version were to be sold so its kindda exclusive. It comes with a sealed USB that contains the private key. Now, for all the fear about the watch being stolen, they could probably have different addresses for the cold storage and the watch.

In case you want to actually have a payment method from the watch itself, the scan address could be some kind of small LCD surface that can be changed as per user's choice. How hard or feasible would it be to accommodate a small LCD surface is a question for the designers. Though, these days, displays come in all sizes. Any such wearable device shouldn't have a fixed address anyways.

The watches themselves are beautiful. If i was an old crypto hodler with BTC to shell out, I'd buy one. Though with the features i mentioned above.
1513  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Next Director-General of the WTO on: July 16, 2020, 11:11:26 AM
At a time when right wing leaders are rising throughout the world backed by an increased xenophobia, WTO is not going to have much of a role to play. How does it even matter who leads it? These bodies are just a meeting ground for trade interests. My goods, your market. Your market, my goods. You let me sell you Harley Davidson's, I'll let you sell your mangoes (That one actually happened between India and the USA). At the end, the deals that do go through are the ones beneficial to the larger partner.

1514  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-07-15] Elon Musk and Bill Gates 'hacked' in apparent Bitcoin scam on: July 16, 2020, 06:33:08 AM
Billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are among several high-profile individuals targeted by hackers on Twitter in an apparent Bitcoin scam...
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-53425822

That's awful, the hack but also the title of this BBC article! "apparent Bitcoin scam"...

I guess they saw you complaning and took notice. So, it doesn't show as "Apparent Bitcoin scam" now. Its just "Major US twitter accounts hacked in Bitcoin Scam".. Roll Eyes  Just like there are "public work scams", "defence procurement scams", this is indeed a bitcoin scam.

The surprising thing is that whoever did it, doesn't seem very smart. Looks like he just stumbled upon some insider access and tried to use it to earn some money. Imagine all the other things that could be done with such an access. He could have made Elon and Trump have a fake conversation. He could have posted so much funny shit from Trump's handle. Time wasn't on his side probably.
1515  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Finally used a bitcoin ATM successfully! on: July 16, 2020, 04:26:11 AM
Congrats Pharamacist for the e-bike and your first transaction. And 15 miles back and forth for bitcoin ATM on your first e-bike must totally be worth it. The fees of course is outrageous. Did they charge it just for transfer or some form of "convenience fee' is also billed on the receipt?

That’s a bitcoin sticker on the top tube of my bike, BTW, which I think I got from minerjones.  If I had more stickers I’d plaster them all over it.

SOMEBODY GIVE THIS MAN A "STICKER"...@minerjones
1516  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-07-16] Major US Twitter accounts hacked in Bitcoin scam on: July 16, 2020, 03:50:47 AM
This is gotta be one of the most high profile recent cases of hackers using bitcoin in one way or another. I think Bitcoin will have a storm coming its way in the near future for two reasons. One for the obvious one that the hacked profiles are of the likes of Gates and Musk. Second that, what the hell were the hackers thinking. Jack Dorsey is on of the more prominent mainstream supporters of bitcoin. You go ahead and screw his site..??!!

LOL, This is quite funny though. You also cannot help but wonder that what kind of levers this incident will lead to being pulled in favor/ opposition of bitcoin now. I so wish that the message posted by the hackers had only been "We believe in bitcoin and you should too". What a bull-run that would have been? You pull of something so spectacular and then waste it away to get money which you won't be able to use anyway.
1517  Local / India / Re: CASHAA HACK. Who TF is Kumar Gaurav, BEWARE!! on: July 14, 2020, 06:10:53 AM
how the hell do these idiots become spokesperson of crypto in our country?
They never did it actually only in their self-entitled world.
--snip--

If they are trying to set up as spokesperson, they are mistaken. But in country like India where money speaks of course he will have advisors and private investors who will dump the market when they wish to and exit before the retail investors even know about it. Thats how they made money during the ICO craze.
Hey TUE. I said spokesperson because at different points, multiple publications have used idiots like him and Amit Bhardwaj as some sort of experts for feedback on bitcoin. I have seen atleast two articles in The Hindu. Remember the time when Amit Bhardwaj had a full front page advertisement on "The Hindu" about his MCAP scam. He even gave away a free ebook about Bitcoin!! I wonder why this keeps happening. Can't media people find better people?

1518  Local / India / Re: CASHAA HACK. Who TF is Kumar Gaurav, BEWARE!! on: July 12, 2020, 06:24:34 AM
Original topic was here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2272412.0

Looks like the thread OP decided to delete the OP and distance themselves from the project. Embarrassed

Yeah back then everyone was starry eyes about these "challenging banking" ICOs. The last update on that page happened in December 2018 before Cashaa pivoted to take on a completely Indian Avatar which was commented upon by erikalui.
It seems like all of those cases where the ICO token prices crashed, the founders liquidated their ETH, BTC and the tens of thousands who had invested their crypto stopped asking questions rationalizing "Ohh, it has happened with everyone". Its funny how these ICOs have been a major wealth transfer from gullible people to wilful as well as unwitting scammers.

As RBI lifted the ban, i think these guys pivoted to opening up an exchange. I just don't understand that an idiot who writes bitcoin.info in the FIR instead of blockchain.info, stores custodial funds in a web wallet, how the hell do these idiots become spokesperson of crypto in our country?
1519  Local / India / CASHAA HACK. Who TF is Kumar Gaurav, BEWARE!! on: July 12, 2020, 04:39:31 AM
I read about the cashaa hack and went into a little detail about the apparent "entrepreneur" behind it. It is some kid from Amity University named Kumar Gaurav. The idiot runs a website with his own name where, in typical crypto scammer style, he is blowing his trumpet about all sort of achievements. Never heard of him before and to me, he seems like another one of those sleazy, suited-booted, scammers akin to Amit Bhardwaj.

The grammar on his website is abysmal, he calls himself amongst top 100 influential blockchain people which he surely isn't. Ranking by some shit website does not make you so and i am pretty sure there are enough people who have done more for bitcoin and crypto that a top 100 list won't need someone like him. Take a look at the list here and judge for yourself. You will have heard of every person in that list in relation to something crypto related.

To top it all, the idiot stored 336 BTC on a web-wallet and then claims to be running a service that is supposed to "challenge" banking. I feel he is just scamming a lot of people who would have invested in his ICO or kept fund in the "exchange".

What are your thoughts on this? Does the website or this guy seem legit to you??
1520  Local / India / Re: Cashaa hacked. 336 BTC Stolen. on: July 12, 2020, 04:30:47 AM
Even more so when a company does it.

just because some idiot kid starts a website and calls that a "company" it  doesn't make it a real "company".
more and more of these low quality services have been popping up because people saw the profit that such services like exchanges make and thought they could do the same thing too but were too lazy and greedy to spend money on security!
I saw their twitter feed and they are tagging other Indian exchanges like coindcx and wazirx. This platform is run by this fucker with a website on his own name. Some Kumar Gaurav he is. I have never heard his name except for the first time at this trumpeting website. From the looks of it, he seems to me like another one of those sleazy, scammy "crypto entrepreneurs".

He is comparatively newer to the crypto scene and has attended a handful of conferences. There is a chance that he is scamming someone or has been scammed by some of  his own fellows who just cannot handle the kind of money that custodial bitcoin services have to safeguard. This person is an incomptent bullshitter thriving on videos and blowing his own trumpet. He calls himself amongs the "top 100 most influential blockchain people". The only authentic list i could find is this one at cointelegraph, and no, he is not there.
