1501  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Where can I buy decent miners online? on: June 25, 2021, 12:42:43 PM
It would greatly help if you told where you are located as that makes one helluva difference...
If you are in USA the I'd recommend using Blokforge.com who does have stock of Canaan miners. They also happen to be an Authorized distributor for Canaan.
1502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If China is so bad for miners, why aren't they moving? on: June 24, 2021, 03:02:00 AM
So what if Bitmain does cut back on spot-market sales of new gear? Safe bet that Canaan, Innosilicon, and MicroBt won't and will be quite happy with their increased sales of new gear. Temporarily halting spot-market sales (read as: individual or very small volume sales) does not mean they will slow down on large-volume sales to mega farms in other parts of the globe. In my book it is a win-win all around for buyers and other miner manufacturers.
1503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If China is so bad for miners, why aren't they moving? on: June 24, 2021, 12:50:24 AM
Bitmain just announced that they're halting sales.
Source?
Nothing about it on the official Bitmain news site.
1504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If China is so bad for miners, why aren't they moving? on: June 23, 2021, 08:24:20 PM
Also one must note that the ban on mining does NOT include a ban on making miners. Bitmain, Canaan et al are still free to keep on making the hardware for sale to the rest of the world. The hardware just cannot be sold for use in China.

As for the large mining farms which were mostly based in China, they just have to move the hardware end of operations out of the country. As I said earlier, they also will now have to use exchanges and banks that are based in other countries to reap their rewards.

The first thing that always comes up as an answer is cheap electricity, but is it that cheap and a good enough reason to do business in a country with an authoritarian regime and hostile attitude towards Bitcoin?
Yes, that *was* the 1st answer. The 2nd is that the people creating and running the mining operations in China are <drum roll please> Chinese, which of course made it a natural choice to base their operations there.

Up until recent events, China had been more or less rather friendly towards crypto mining. The crackdowns in earlier years were all aimed at getting rid of scammers involved in the rampant flood of ICO/Token crapcoin pump & dump schemes.

5) Before resellers and opportunists get way too ahead of themselves for scooping up discounted electrical equipment, they should consider that most of the gear wont be up to code for established Western countries (not UL Listed or CE Certified, aluminum transformers vs copper)
As far as miners go, all of Bitmain, Canaan, and MicroBt's gear *are* UL listed/CE certified. That said, at least for CE certification all that means is that the components are properly rated and the design is not likely to catastrophically fail resulting in a fire or electrocution hazard. UL takes that a bit further in that the assembly factories must also allow periodic 3rd party audits to ensure all guidelines are followed. The fact that whoever makes the PSU's seem to *really* like using glue to insulate and hold parts in place is permitted although certainly not consider a best-practice.

Globally, transformers with aluminum windings are the norm when it comes to large ones used for power distribution and ones using copper are rather rare to find...

Now as to the switchgear, ja they need to check certifications but odds are it is all at least CE Certified.

The hell with Iran. To me a better choice would be moving the miners to Kazakhstan which not only has ample power but is also extremely friendly towards crypto.

The farms being ran for BTC.com is already moving there
1508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China FUD on: June 23, 2021, 02:38:26 PM
Many of the world's leading exchanges are from China and with a daily trading volume of billions of dollars, China's total ban on bitcoin will probably have very bad effects on the market in the near future. When the CEOs of the world's leading electronic exchanges are arrested or detained, how will the market fluctuate?
Why would the owners be arrested or detained?
Nothing anywhere has been said regarding that and there is no legal basis for such speculation. As long as they follow the new law(s), shut down and/or move operations out of the country they will be fine.

Yes they will have to deal with setting up accounts with foreign exchanges and banks to receive their mining earnings through and then sent/receive Yuan to their Chinese accounts. That is not only fully legal but also a very common practice in international banking. Again, as long as business owners follow the rules -- no problem.

Is it really necessary to rinse afterwards with distilled water?
Yes, either that or a final rinse with IPA (isopropyl alchol). As said earlier, tap water usually contains minerals and salts along with whatever was used in the detergent you use. The final rinse removes the remaining residue.
1510  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Suggested ASIC mining hardware for newbie on: June 23, 2021, 01:14:15 PM
<snip>
Anyways, my budget is approx USD 2500 and wanted to get ASIC miner. What would you suggest? I am fairly experienced with GPU mining but ASIC is a new world for me. What are some important things to take note of?

Thanks.
No current generation miners are available for that price but there are a few older miners available such as the Canaan Avalon 841 or 851 as well as older ones from Bitmain. Your biggest problem will be finding a legit reseller as there are many many scammers/ripoffs out there.

For a start, you need to let folks here know, what country are you in? Then they can start recommending resellers.

Also as Kano said, keep in mind that this area is for Bitcoin only -- no discussion of alts nor hardware used for mining alts is allowed here.
1511  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Whatsminer M21 Errors,Power Detect on: June 23, 2021, 01:05:53 PM
Along with Mikey's question about power I have to ask about that bridge board: Do you actually replace it? It probably just needs to be re-seated. Every couple months one of my M10's does the same thing (1 board loses communications to the controller). I just open the miner up and re-seat that bridge board and all is well again for a few months.
1512  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: June 22, 2021, 03:57:02 PM
I see that BTC hit a low of $28.8k sooo, that means that the buy I set to trigger @ $30k went through.
Here's to hoping that BTC recovers from the fallout of the China mining shutdowns...
1513  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How often does a solo miner solve a block on: June 22, 2021, 12:02:31 AM
Can't say I've ever bothered to do the math, mainly depends on how many coins the reward was back then. Currently is 6.25BTC+fees, back then might have been 12.5BTC+fees. Do remember that I've been running a total of several hundred THs. Those miners that found blocks were part of that farm.

I CAN say that running solo that long with no income from others in the pool finding blocks would have been - very expensive. I may be patient but not that much.
1514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone Mining using regular silent pc for long term mining ? on: June 20, 2021, 02:53:18 AM
Ref the pinned topic at the top of this section - mainly point-3.
PC's have not been able to mine Bitcoin since late 2013. They can however be used to mine crap coins (altcoins) but discussion of them is not for here. The altcoin sections are here
1515  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 921 Socket Connect Fail => Connection refused on: June 20, 2021, 02:44:00 AM
The A921 requires a PSU rated for at least 1,800w and 2kw is preferred. No Bitmain PSU will deliver that when fed only 110VAC, the few that even run on 110v top out at around 1,200w. To provide their full power rating the PSU's require being fed 208-240VAC.
1516  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ Temp sensors problem on: June 19, 2021, 10:31:18 PM
Generally the term 'cold solder (joint)' refers to a bad connection caused from insufficient heat being applied. It results in a grainy looking solder joint with metal crystals in it. Mechanically weak and prone to cracking causing at best a higher than normal resistance through the joint and often intermittent connections.

If we put one and one together, is it possible that IMF promised to increase grants to El Salvador if they accept and later revoke Bitcoin, in an attempt to de-legitimise Bitcoin?
You used the words I highlighted in blue leading one to ask: the source(s) of your information that led you to pondering this scenario is?....

yeah the ATX can be found at steep prices from resellers.
supply lines are crazy right now.
Probably from folks trying to find PSU's to power S9xx, Avalon 8-9's etc?
1519  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Future of Mining Regulations in the USA on: June 18, 2021, 01:14:03 PM
As to the above, I'd bet if you're talking about the United States it'd be the former (higher taxes for miners), especially given how much electricity is used.  The only way I could see anything being subsidized would be if a mining operation were to use green methods in their farming, e.g., solar or wind.  I haven't got a great sense of how the US government views bitcoin--there's nowhere near the amount of regulation I figured there would be at this point, but there's not exactly a lot of support for it on the federal or state level <snip>
Most if not all large scale mining in the USA already IS using 'green energy'. AFAIK the vast majority are using hydroelectric followed by wind. For hydro users in the Northwest the reason is simple: Due to several large river systems emptying into the Pacific ocean there are several very large dams located there so the power is cheap (and 'green').

You want subsidies? If you are in the US then you need to checkout Section179.org to see the rather massive credits a business can get for buying the hardware. While Section 179 of the US tax code applies to all small/medium-size businesses purchasing equipment it seems that a lot folks do not think of it applying to miners. If you are a mining business it DOES.

Section 179 at a Glance for 2021
2021 Deduction Limit = $1,050,000
2021 Spending Cap on equipment purchases = $2,620,000
Bonus Depreciation: 100% for 2021

Ronaldo is someone that at least everyone in the world has heard of,
Bzzzt, never heard of him.
Even if I had and he is some sort of celebrity I still would not care a single bit about what they say as I do my own research and rely on data for decisions. Not some random person's personal opinions.
