1501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bhutan's Secret Crypto Investments: A Game-Changing Strategy for Small Nations? on: June 11, 2023, 02:29:50 PM
TL;DR:

Bhutan has been secretly investing millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, revealed through the bankruptcy filings of BlockFi and Celsius.

I don't know where the Kingdom of Bhutan gets financial advice on cryptocurrency investment but I think they are not getting the complete information or are motivated by greed. Do they really need to use exchanges or crypto firms like BlockFii and Celsius to invest in or buy Bitcoin? All they would have done was to set up a governmental agency that will handle the mining, buying, storing, and selling of any cryptocurrency. Investing through these centralized exchanges or platforms is very risky.

Quote
These investments could indicate a game-changing strategy for small nations, following a game theoretical point where smaller nations and companies adopt cryptocurrencies before larger ones.
The investment of Bhutam and other small nations might look insignificant based on the amount they can afford to invest. But this is a plus to the Bitcoin space because it will lead to an increase in awareness and adoption. These developing nations are seeking diverse means to diversify their economy and attract investors and capital.

Bhutan plans to further develop the mining industry of its economy. In cooperation with Singapore's Bitdeer Technologies Group, Bhutan plans to build a 600 megawatt farm. For these purposes, they hope to attract $500 million from investors.

With such ambitious plans and opportunities to organize hydropower in the country, Bhutan can become one of the major players in the mining market in the world.
Bhutan is indeed setting the pace for other nations to follow. Hydropower electricity is not a totally clean and green energy but it is far better than using oil and gas powered electricity generators. I am surprised that is a relatively unknown country that is tapping into the benefits of bitcoin.
1502  Economy / Economics / Re: Money is never enough! on: June 10, 2023, 05:04:12 PM
Most people nowadays measure everything with money, and it can be said that money is the biggest goal or motivation for anyone, unfortunately many people are carried away with money so they do everything for money. they even want to commit crimes to get money.
They fail to understand that money is important but it is not the most important thing in life. Good health, a compatible marriage partner, and children that are outstanding in character and learning is much more important than riches. If I can have money that would be enough to take care of my family and help some poor people in my community, I think I am okay. The uncontrollable quest for wealth is the reason why there are high rates of criminal activities. People are not satisfied with what they have because they want to look like thier role models who are always celebrities. And these celebrities live fake by deceiving their followers that they have much money, while they are living on debt or credit. They best thing to do in life is to focus on yourself and don't wish to be like another person.
1503  Other / Meta / Re: [Bitcointalk Party - Discord sv] Bitcoin Pizza bake-off contest! Enter by June 1 on: June 10, 2023, 04:33:04 PM
It was fun to see all the pizza that was made by the contestants. I couldn't believe that some persons used indomie noodles and egg as their pizza. Is what pizza is made of. Very funny to see that picture. Is it that Fillippone pizza was the best pizza ever made in this forum or it was better than all that pizza made this year ? I wanted to participate this year but my busy schedule prevented my from it,and I will put it in my that next year I will give it a trial. The winner of this contest needs to open a pizza shop.  Cheesy
The beauty of the competition was that we saw varieties of pizzas. Some will make you laugh because they looked like something else while others looked like real pizza. But the good part of the competition was that everybody enjoyed the fun and joy the competition brought. For some people, it was their first time making pizza and you don't expect it to be perfect. Hopefully, they will improve in the next competition. For now, @Fillippone has no competition because it is clear that he is the Pizza Master. But next year might not be the same because more members will have to learn and master the art of pizza making. @Merit.s I will be expecting to see your pizza next year. Please don't allow time constraints to stop you because you might be the winner next year Roll Eyes
1504  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Reminder] hey bitcoiners, Did you forget to read the updates on terms&policies? on: June 10, 2023, 03:41:18 PM
How often do you check if there are any changes or updates on the platform you are using? Well, on one of the platforms I use for some Bitcoin transactions, I saw something like this on the image below, and I was surprised, because since I stated using Bitcoin, no platform has publicly drop down a notification like that on their home page, stating that there is an update on the terms and conditions. For these reasons, I have decided to remind us to be very vigilant and try to check if the platform you are using has any slit changes in T&C to avoid a situation where your assets will be at risk.
Thank you for this reminder because I have not really thought about this. This means we need to periodically read these terms of service because there might be some changes that might affect users negatively. But I am pleased to see such a platform making such an open announcement which means they are open to their customer.

Any centralized exchanges will always tightening their rules at least once time per year and you will not know which rules they added because they didn't state the difference of the old and new terms. This is different if you use a NO KYC exchange or decentralized exchange because they rarely add new rules. Even though few sites already set a mandatory KYC rule e.g. Localbitcoins and Localcryptos, this can be avoided by searching "KYC" on the terms before using the site.
Any exchange or crypto firm that updates its terms and conditions without informing its customers acted wrongly. Customers need to know when there are changes so they will have to check if they are comfortable with the exchange or not. But decentralized exchanges also have terms of service so even if they don't require KYC we still have to read these rules and these no KYC exchanges can also change some rules.
1505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: June 10, 2023, 03:00:21 PM
In UEFA Champions League, the final match of Man City vs Inter is going to start in a very short time. The fans of both teams are waiting to see which team will win this final match. I have bet in support of Man City team today. I hope Man City.  They will perform well today. If the players of Inter team play well, we will see a very nice match between the two teams. If Inter performs badly, Man City will win very easily.
Manchester City is playing with a full-fit squad except for Kyle Andrew Walker has been sidelined with a back injury. Key players like De Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish. and Haaland are all fit so there will not be any excuse for injured players. Although the versatile defender Walker will be missed but he can be easily replaced. Inter was scared that Milan Skriniar Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Joaquin Correa might not be fit for the game today but all of them have been declared fit by the Inter Medical team. So we are hoping to see one of the biggest and most entertaining finals today.

Manchester City has some many stars that it will be difficult to depend on some players but Inter will be depending on Martinez Lautaro and the Chelsea on loan striker Romelu Lukaku. Inter will ply defensively while utilizing counter-attack. If Inter doesn't defend well the match might be decided in the first half because they might conceive goals from the sharp attacks of City.
1506  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SATOSHI IS BACK with satoshi@vistomail.com BUT ITS SCAM on: June 10, 2023, 02:23:46 PM
This is actually a super early warning. Have not seen it promoted on twitter yet.

"Satoshi Nakamoto is BACK with his satoshi@vistomail.com email & will SOON promote OTOM a bitcoin BRC20 scam on http://vistomail.com

Michael Webber who owned http://anonymousspeech.com & http://vistomail.com for the anon mail service did not renew the domains. BE CAREFUL "

https://twitter.com/dogdaddotx/status/1666853103667224577?s=20
I was speaking to a young cryptocurrency enthusiast a few hours ago that is passionate about owning Bitcoin. He showed me a website and app called Satosicoin and told me he will get his Bitcoin from the scheme. But I told him that the site is fake and a scam. He further told them it was Satoshi that owns the site, and I told him it was not the truth. The owner of the site told them to invest and get Bitcoin, meanwhile, it was a worthless shitcoin. I had to teach him about Bitcoin, how to buy, earn or mine it.

The point is that many ignorant people will still fall for this cheap scam and waste thier money. People will not stop using the name Satoshi to commit fraud. If Satoshi comes back, I guess bitcoiltalk will be one of the first places he would show himself but I doubt he would ever be known.
1507  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is There A Time That You Calculated All Your loses In One Year on: June 09, 2023, 03:08:52 PM
So I stopped counting my losses and just minimize my betting I just tried to be happy on the thought that I have good times betting and I enjoy the thrill.
Evaluating your activities, especially the financial aspect is very important. It will help show you if you are spending too much, small or moderately. At least it was from your yearly evaluation that were able to know that what you have lost on gambling will be enough to build a house and put in place an investment. It might be very annoying and depressing but it should be a time to replan and cut your budget on gambling.

Auditing your financial operations gives you the uncommon privilege of identifying what to do to get the best out of gambling and your life. I will suggest you have a budget on how to use your income. You need to build a house and get that tricycle and gambling shouldn't be a stumbling block because you can always control your gambling expenses. For me counting your losses or wins is advisable if you have the time and ability.
1508  Economy / Economics / Re: US Advisory on Payment App Risks and Bitcoin’s Position as a Secure Alternative on: June 09, 2023, 02:45:53 PM
Of course, it is well-known that you should not be using Paypal as a bank, given their business practices of locking you out of your own account using "limiting".  But the inclusion of the other payment apps inside this advisory is particularly telling. For one thing, it's indicating that these kind of services can basically shut down at any time, or fail, and the result would not be much different to FTX and Celcius.

This being a financial watchdog , naturally they are going to tell us to store our funds in a bank, it being "FDIC insured" and all. But we all here know better than that, right? Non-custodial wallets are the best, should you use them properly.
Truth can be covered but cannot be hidden forever. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is speaking the truth and it's great that it is coming from a US government agency. There is no difference between crypto exchanges and major payment platforms since both of them are not insured by the deposit insurance of the nation. Since you are not protected by any regulatory agencies it will be better to keep your investment safe by yourself which is called self-custody. You bear the risk of keeping your funds which is far better than delegating it to someone or an organisation.

The recent hack of the Estonia-based non-custodian wallet Atomic has brought awareness about using open-source wallets. Banks insure depositors fund against loss but they are not insured against inflation. Bitcoin stands out from the crowd because it is a currency, hedge against inflation and investment commodity.
1509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My friend interested in investing in BTC but the friend's father does not agree on: June 09, 2023, 02:05:13 PM
But my friend is not listening and instead he will invest on Bitcoin. I don't know what kind of suggestion I should make to my friend in such a situation. Should I ask my friend to invest in Bitcoin? Or ask to pay more attention to his job?
From the information you gave Bitcoin is banned in your country. Which means owning it or using it for any transaction is a criminal offense. You have to obey the law of your country and abstain from owning Bitcoin. Owning Bitcoin might not affect his job because he might just be a holder and not a trader but you identified that it might lead to the loss of a well-paying job which is his major source of income. I will advise that he focuses on his job and search for other viable sectors where he can invest his money. This is because he might be unlucky to be caught by the police or other agencies which might lead to severe sanctions. Maybe in a few years, your government might change its stance on bitcoin which will make Bitcoin a legal currency and investment.
1510  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there anyone else who shares the same sentiments? on: June 09, 2023, 01:50:01 PM
I think you are getting something wrong here.

The issue between Binance and the SEC has nothing to do with Bitcoin; the reason it has a slight impact on the Bitcoin market is because Binance is one of the most popular centralized exchanges.

Even if Binance is seized or prevented from operating, Bitcoin will continue to move since it is not dependent on any other coin, unlike altcoins, the market price of which is dependent on Bitcoin's.
Maybe the original poster's view is not clear to you because it think his observation and questions are valid. Last year the fall of FTX and some other crypto-related firms affected the price of Bitcoin. The price dropped because of the FUD it caused. So Op is surprised that the attack on one of the biggest exchanges is having little or no effect on the price of Bitcoin.

The reason why the bitcoin market is not reacting so much to the SEC and Binance issue as much as we may have expected is because it appears to be more of a social attack rather than a direct attack on bitcoin network protocol, mining operations or blockchain technology. The market would have reacted differently if it was an attack on the network. Am I correct? I don't know much about the technical aspect of Bitcoin, but this is the best possible explanation I can think of for what is happening. Is there anyone else who shares the same sentiments?
My observation is that:
1. Bitcoin is becoming independent from the influence of exchanges and crypto-related businesses.
2. The market was ready for the SEC onslaught against Binance because it has been expected for a long time.
3. This legal battle will only affect Binance US so other nations are stable and attack-free.
4. More people are becoming aware of decentralized wallets so they are not affected by the problems of exchanges.
1511  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: June 07, 2023, 03:38:23 PM
The new Chelsea team members have a tonne of potential and could use more encouragement and assistance. Although switching instructors is a concern the fundamental problem is a lack of cohesive collaboration. Chelsea can solve their issues and make major advancements by building a strong team dynamic. The club dedication to fostering collaboration will probably result in more strategic transfer choices that put the success of the whole squad ahead of individual signings. We have high hopes for Chelsea forthcoming campaign as they will be led by a new manager who will work to bring them back to their former glory.
Hopefully, Chelsea can win again through its new manager next season because Chelsea is a big team that often enlivens the top ranks in the Premier League, even though in the season that has ended, Chelsea has really slumped with no consistency at all in building the team. In the next season, Chelsea needs better collaboration between players and coaches to increase their strength in undergoing a new competition and I also hope that Chelsea can get up soon when next season starts.
Coach Mauricio Pochettino has a good track record in some of the top clubs in Europe including leading Tottenham to their first UEFA Champions League final. He is well experienced and can manage any player regardless of their influence or reputation. He has all the players he needs to succeed because Chelsea invested almost half a billion dollars last season in players. This season is one of Chelsea's worst and the coach has to do a lot of work to motivate the players and restructure the team for next season.

Chelsea's fans had a very disappointing season and they will be expecting the team to come back to its winning ways. I think the benchmark for coach Pochettino should be a top-four finish. Since the team is not playing in any European competition next season, they would have to focus on the EPL. But one of the difficult tasks currently is to encourage some players to remain in the club because some of them might not be comfortable not playing in the Champions league next season.
1512  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: P2P Scams : Where does the government stand on: June 07, 2023, 01:31:12 PM
Now my question is that in my country, crypto is not legalized, so in case if anyone is scammed through P2P, we can't take up this matter in the legal court because the country does not recognize the transactions of crypto in the first place.

Does this gives a free hand to scammers as they know that they cannot be punished by a court of law  Huh
If crypto is banned in your country exchanges might be blocked from operating except if you use VPN or other anonymizing browsers. Engaging in such crypto transactions makes you a criminal because you are violating the law of the country thereby committing a crime. He that comes to equity must come with clean hands, so you cannot take legal action against a scammer because you are not also innocent. Since the transaction is illegal before the law, the court has no locus standi to entertain such a matter. It will definitely give scammers the freedom to scam as many people as possible because the transactions are illegal in your country.  The only option is to report to the exchange for investigation and further sanctions.
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should cryptocurrency be banned in a country with a population of 240 million? on: June 07, 2023, 12:17:36 PM
Pressured by FATF. The government complies as the country needs aide.
Pakistan is their own country, no one else can decide for it but their officials and if they say crypto is banned, then it is. Eventually they come to realized they can't actually do it due to BTC's nature.

Its not about population, 240 is small compare to Billions on earth. BTC will survive without Pakistan.
World Bank uses FATF to influence the financial decisions of many countries. If you want to get loans and other financial aid from them, then you have to abide by their terms and conditions. One of the main terms for loans is to ban cryptocurrencies. The same thing happened in El Salvador, Central African Republic and others but El Salvador was brave enough to resist this influence. If Bitcoin was able to survive China's attacks, Pakistan's crackdown will have little or no effect.

Something I asked myself as well,
What is the relationship between population size and bitcoin?
I don't seem to make that mark as I feel, its got nothing to do with it other than, increased or reduced demand could result in some adjustments to the market structure as per price and trends.
There is an assumption that the size of the population will determine the level of Bitcoin use. More people might lead to more demand. This assumption might be partially true but other factors besides population determine bitcoin use. Factors such as the income, education, and technological exposure of the population. The availability of certain facilities such as power, internet, and others play important role in bitcoin adoption.
1514  Economy / Reputation / Re: 12 Years on Bitcointalk Today! on: June 06, 2023, 11:07:14 AM
I just noticed the little birthday icon on my profile indicating that today is the day I signed up for Bitcointalk!  Pretty amazing really that it's been a dozen years now.  I guess that sort of makes me one of the old guys around here.  It's been a pretty crazy ride, but I'll admit it hasn't been all that surprising.
Some things I've done over the last 12 years that I think are cool...
Twelve years of great learning, teaching, and impacting. I read about you and it has been a good time with some challenges. But I understand that there will always be disagreements and controversies because everyone has different perceptions about bitcoin and life entirely. But I am happy you still here to mentor young members because your experienced is priceless. I want to wish you more fruitful and impactful years ahead. Maybe your next birthday will be celebrated in Mars when Elon Musk have fixed his SpaceX Starship. Congratulations boss.
1515  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which League Makes Sports Betting Easy to Win? on: June 06, 2023, 10:17:15 AM
A tipster on one of the social media platforms advised his hundreds of followers that making money from sports betting is easier if they stop betting on European Football, which has just concluded, and focus on the Singaporean leagues, South American Leagues, and the Scandinavian leagues. Although some of his followers agreed that they've won some bets in those leagues, they also cautioned that there is a huge likelihood of match fixing occurring there as well. So everyone should be careful. I have never bet on those leagues as I am too careful. Can anyone share their experience with betting in these other leagues and make a comparison between betting there and betting in the Champions League, EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie Do not mention match fixing(it has been earlier pointed out), but talk about which is easier to win in and how much you made in comparison.
Top European leagues like EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue One, etc are more organized than other leagues. Bookmakers in these leagues are more reliable and have a good financial base. issues like match-fixing and betting scams are rare if you choose reliable casinos. I don't think there is any league that is easy to win because gamblers would have identified these leagues and focused on them. The league might favour the tipster but his followers might not be as fortunate. I have never placed a bet on Singaporian, South American, and the Scandinavia league but it will not be a bad attempt to try them to ascertain if it is really easy.

This depends on his knowledge of those leagues because to someone who is not familiar with the American League and the team statistic, it is hard for such a person to win any bet since he will not know the right club to give the winning to and also if this becomes the case most of those that are familiar with the European leagues will lose interest in sports bets since they will continue living to take for example.
Last weekend Manchester City played Manchester United in one of those international leagues that the influencer kicked against and it was easy for most football bettors to know who win the match even before it was played.
You are on point @Wiwo. To bet on these leagues one needs to study their gambling or staking processes. Most of the clubs are strange so analyzing and predicting games might be difficult. There is a need to study and understand these leagues. Any gambler that depends on these influencers for predictions is an amateur. Everyone has to take the responsibility of studying games and making predictions.
1516  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My step to promote bitcoin (Part 2). on: June 06, 2023, 08:20:50 AM
I must really commends you on your efforts to bring down the  bitcoin language to everyone, not just to anyone but making sure to print out a handbill bt I can call it sticker to people around to be able to learn and know about bitcoin which I think is very helpful to people around and I know stickers travels very far away whereby people must see it.
OP's action is highly commendable. Investing money and time to come up with selfless service is an act to emulate. This action might look insignificant but one or more people might have become interested in bitcoin through the information. Bitcoin awareness is what will lead to increased adoption, therefore we need to appreciate anyone that is spreading the news about Bitcoin.

While paper-based advertising may not be taken seriously, there are alternative approaches to promoting Bitcoins. yes, we are all here expected to be adaptable and open to new methods that align with the preferences of your target audience. But, at least consider using digital platforms and social media to reach a wider audience. Creating awareness is a good thing.
Advertisement strategies depend on the location and the level of enlightenment of the target population. In advanced countries where the level of education is high, online or digital advert will be the best option. But the paper advert is still very potent in some countries like mine. Most businesses in my country use handbills and billboards to attract customers. But to get wider coverage most organization combines both online and offline advertisement strategy.
1517  Economy / Economics / Re: Getting an MBA before starting a company or directly starting a company? on: June 06, 2023, 06:47:27 AM
Getting an MBA is beneficial because it sets you apart from the rest of the pack. One of the advantages of an MBA is that it forces you to read and learn, which helps you expand your knowledge about any business you want to venture into. I strongly believe that one of the reasons why start-ups fail is because they lack a solid foundation in understanding frameworks and conducting their own research, instead of relying solely on purchased data. While it is true that not everyone may be able to afford an MBA program, the truth is that there is so much to learn from it. If you had the opportunity to pursue an MBA before starting a company or directly starting a company, which option would you choose?

Bagging an MBA before starting a business is not a bad idea. Some MBA courses expose students to some workable business strategies and leadership styles that can be beneficial to the business. But it is not a criterion for the success of a business because many business owners have built great businesses without MBA degrees. There are many books and materials both online and offline that can guide business owners in running their business successfully. MBA programs are very expensive and time-consuming but if I can afford the money and time, it will be an addition to my knowledge and experience.

This particular platform is the platform that melt away with some people's money last year our last 2 years so I don't think that recommending this platform is also good again everybody knows what they have done to people put people into trouble they are problem also take some people's life so I will not advice from people who don't know about it to invest in it again
MBA simply Means Master of Business Administration. It is an academic degree offered by universities and business schools that exposes students to business management and leadership. It seems you are mistaking it for the scam Ponzi scheme MBA Trading and Capital Investment that swindled people of their funds by promising them outrageous profits.
1518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 years of a Legendary post on: June 06, 2023, 01:39:05 AM
I remember reading it for the first time in 2014. It was one of the threads that can be found on the top thread of Bitcoin Discussion. Lot of commenters on that thread were thankful for being at the right place at the right time, whereas there are some other people that also knew they made the right decision because they understood what bitcoin is for and believed that it will be worth something in the future. Fast forward 12 years, that 100 bitcoins would be worth at least $2.6 million by now, and I do hope that guy kept all of his coins.
That thread for me is filled with men that believed the unbelievable and acted to achieve it. Almost all of them had so much faith and confidence in the ability of Bitcoin to make them financially stable. Making such statements now will make you look like a greedy forum member that is only concerned about the profits from Bitcoin. But we are all here to learn and make profit that can make us comfortable. It was easy then to get Bitcoin like one user in the thread @JamezQ stated that he was paid 50BTC for just two hours job. It is still easy today because we can earn or buy at a cheap price this is because most of us might not afford to buy it in a few years. That thread will serve as a motivation not to stop believing and hodling because one day it will be my turn to appreciate the decision I made today.
1519  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current Topic: African players in Europe. on: June 05, 2023, 11:28:19 PM
At the start of the match, I thought that Super Eagles would win their match against South Korea due to they won the host country Argentina. But as the match progresses, I get to find out that Super lack finishing. They might lose the match if care is not taken. That was what was running through my mind during the extra time of the match.
This is always the consequence of wasting opportunities in a game. The flying eagles were the better side but they failed to utilize the chances they had. If the team had gotten a goal in that game the result would have at least been a penalty shootout. But I also want to commend the South Korean team for their strength and hard work. The Flying Eagle is a very physical team but the Koreans were able to withstand the pressure and played for almost 120 minutes. Congratulation to the young Koreans and the semi-finals game is against the Italians.

But the current star of the tournament is the Israeli team. This was their first ever Under 20 world cup and they are already making history. They qualified for the semifinals after winning Brazil by 3-2 with a great goal by Turgeman. This was a team that was rejected by the former host Indonesia and now they are the surprise of the tournament. Thier next game is against Uruguay on Thursday, June 8th.

I live in NY and can't buy any crypto there are no atms (all shutdown) all exchanges block me the only way I can think is by person but that's kinda risky unless I know them irl. Any suggestions?
I know that the use, buying, and selling of Bitcoin is not illegal in New York so your restrictions might be a personal issue. You didn't state why you have been blocked from accessing or using all the exchanges you tried using. Maybe you might be having a KYC issue with these exchanges and you may have to consult their customer service to determine what is wrong. Have tried using the Bitcoin ATM finder tool to search for functional ATMs in New York, it could also be of good help. But if you care about your privacy you might consider using some reliable P2P platforms like Bisq and others. Or you can consider buying from a reputable member of the forum.
