1501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: May 25, 2017, 08:12:11 PM

But if you want on-chain governance, Decred is the only game in town...

...if Kamikaze production processes are your priority.

It occurred to me that if Decred was a plane they wouldn't have pilots. They'd have yokes in each passenger seat back and fly a course based on the realtime average deflection of each.

That's real governance...Decred style !! Wink

Alternatively, the pilots could fly to all destinations first, then take a vote on which one the passengers actually wanted dropped off at.

That's real governance...Decred style !! Wink

WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BIG MASS ADOPTION FOR BITCOIN AND A BUBBLE FOR MOST ALTCOINS AND DASH STILL HAVE 5kBTC VOLUME?

Making stuff up ?

Dash 19000 BTC volume today. ($45 Million)
Nş 10: Ahead of Stellar & NEM

Of those 10, Dash was one of only four where that volume did not represent a significant net SELL :-)

 • Ether: dumped
 • Ripple: dumped
 • Stellar: dumped
 • Monero: dumped
 • Tether: dumped
 • ZCash: dumped

 • Bitcoin: bought
 • Ether Classic: bought
 • Litecoin: held
 • Dash: held

Icey is becomeing very funny this days.

Dash is to 'icey' as Bitcoin is to Peter Schiff.

Dash's Bus Factor = 1

its futile as many of us here are onto you...

bigR - I think you just mis-understood iCEBREAKER's post there. He's referring to the Dash thread and is expressing his concern that trolling activities are approaching a Bus Factor of 1.

I'd say this is a legtimate concern. Not being reminded of market depth imbalances to the downside, imminent arrests of project staff, the blue-sky hopium popium nature of "Evolousham vapourware", or how we are violating HYIP regs could lead to complacency and taking eyes off the ball.

I suggest a proposal on Dashwhale to fund an ancillary for iCEBREAKER to take the pressure off. They'd of course need training which would take a while but there's no shortage of material. (In fact maybe Dash core could spare a body. Having now a bus factor of about 20 they wouldn't notice Wink).

1505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Spike? Any news? Just conference related... on: May 23, 2017, 09:01:25 AM

I have some Ethereum but I see it as an extremely risky investment long term. Sure it could keep going up, but what exactly are we investing in ?

If you think you are investing in the business models (DAO's) that run on it, think again. As far as those are concerned the blockchains are interchangeable. What happens when a successful DAO decides it wants to move to the next latest and greatest platform - be it Tezos, Rootstock, Ether Classic, whatever ? No problem ! They just create new tokens on the competing chain and supply them on a 1 to 1 exchange basis for the 'old' ones.

Thats the problem with these smart contract chains. There's an airgap between the base token and the real value source.

That airgap isn't there with the monetary blockchains. If you own Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dash, Monero, Dogue, Peercoin, Unobtanium, Jackpotcoin you own it because the coin itself has value. There ain't no replacing it with another chain because it ain't itself any more. Whereas with a DAO token, you can move it to another chain and it's STILL itself.

I therefore regard these smart contract tokens with extreme caution when it comes to holding them as store of value. Monetary tokens can keep going up forever. Smart contract tokens can have the value drained out of them one day by a competing technology and for it never to come back. Consider investing in electronic typewriters in the 1970's. You'd have made a lot of money as long as you got out at some point. But if you held till the end of the 80's you'd be broke. Meanwhile if you'd held precious metal throughout you'd be fine.

Therefore the general rule is:

Monetary Blockchain Tokens: Real Gold
Smart contract Blockchain Tokens: Fools Gold

Smart Contract blockchain tokens = the 'Electronic Typewriter Shares' of the 21st century Wink

...The LN is a decentralized system for instant, high-volume micropayments that removes the risk of delegating custody of funds to trusted third parties.

Hey, it's just like transacting on an exchange !

 • 3rd parties hold your coins
 • off-chain, therefore instant
 • a promise that you'll get your coins back if anything goes 'wonky'
 • only works if the other guy's on it as well
 • inconsistent interface with native client
 • inconsistent performance with native client
 • basically 2 ways of doing everything just to screw clueless 'noobs' who've no idea which is the 'real' one

Should be good !

1507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 22, 2017, 01:33:19 PM
Bitbay now rallying on the disagreement over the Barry Silbert "agreement".

Dash also taking off.

Toys & prams in short supply.

yeah...that agreement is a piece of shit. just another attempt at a delaying tactic.

GET OVER IT MAN...DASH is a joke

...but not as entertaining a joke as harmani21 who comes from a rich pedigree of clowns who post here year after year with their apocalyptic prophecies and green-eyed rants against a background of year on year growth against Bitcoin itself.

There should be enough to start a circus by now Wink

1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is Now the Most Secure Public Blockchain, Overtaking Bitcoin on: May 22, 2017, 12:14:53 AM

I think Ethereum is a successful project and becoming more valuable as a  token.

But it isn't as 'safe' as the pure monetary blockchains as a store of value IMO.

It has value because of the meta applications and tokens it carries and they are basically floating value. If a Dapp-based decentralised business model decides it wants to migrate to 'the latest and greatest smart contract chain', all it has to do is offer its holders a one-to-one exchange for the token from a new chain.

That makes these smart contract chains very volatile as stores of value compared to Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dash, XMR, Peercoin etc.

They go up fast. But they can be dropped like a hot brick when suits. Meanwhile, the monetary chains have their value and token co-incident. That gives them far more longevity and robustness as a store of value.

Wellcome back 0.046 next stop 0.038 RIP DASH

A new ATH for the "RIP" level Wink
1511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Much Money Did You Lose NOT Buying ETH? on: May 21, 2017, 12:34:58 PM

Ether is doing a good price spike. But an an investment, it has one huge weakness that the monetary assets do not have: Its value derives from meta-assets which are effectively businesses.

That is floating value which can work as well on one smart contract blockchain as another, so investing in the underlying token doesn't actually invest you in those businesses directly and the value of your holdings (at least against, say bitcoin) is exposed to volatility from technological competition.

This is not the case with monetary assets such as BTC, LTC, DASH, PPC, XMR etc. They are held for a monetary premium (monetary value over utility) that effectively cements their role as a store of value and nothing else.

Conclusion:

 • Technology assets (the smart contract blockchains) are good for short term gains, but may not hold their value due to always being subject to MySpace --> Facebook syndrome so you need to know when to get out.

 • Monetary assets are likely to have far more longevity. Like investing in gold in the 1950's would still have been a good move 50 years later, whereas investing in electronic typewriters might have made you rich at the time but not if you'd stayed in that asset for 50 years

Bearstamp at 2k.
1513  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 20, 2017, 06:49:20 PM

...and the quick answer is NO. Bitcoin wants to get at least to Spain because it's interested in reliving Brazil vs Italy.

1514  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 20, 2017, 06:45:12 PM

Bearstamp has progressed to Argentina. Scotland Holland Archie Gemmill goal. That was the ATH for Scotland. Will it be for Bitcoin ?

1515  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 20, 2017, 06:26:55 PM

expect some drama until the scaling is resolved. we will see the $1150 - $1350 area to be tested again.

Looking at the 4-year pattern it looks more like a rise to $4000+ then a retest of where we are now is what's on the cards.
1516  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 20, 2017, 06:24:18 PM

Bearstamp spending too much time reminiscing over Germany v Holland when it should be making progress with price.

Here is more information on those unconfirmed transactions:

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions
199205 & climbing

They don't seem to matter.

I was transferring Bitcoin when the backlog was up at 220,000. Only paid a tiny fee and got 3 confirmations within 12 minutes.

I think it's just 0-fee spam.

Sad if only im still sticking with XRP

If you only trade for short term profit, you'd better be a good daytrader. Otherwise you're safer picking something that has a future and stick with it.

XRP and NEM are good projects, but they're technology assets, not monetary ones. As evidence of that, look at the pump NEM's getting just from its association with the banking sector. The banks are going to create derivative financial products and house them on those chains. But the nature of those valuations means that they can disappear just as easily when the banks drop them like a hot brick and move to the next 'greatest thing'.

Dash is currently at around a 300% gain AGAINST BITCOIN on the start of the year and we're not even halfway through yet. Against the $USD it's at around a 700% gain and hovering just below its all-time high. That's despite it being in the middle of a huge profit-take phase with little news and quiet on the business announcement front. (Doesn't mean there's not substantial development going on - probably the most intensive there's ever been).

Here's how we should be looking at the situation: http://palmbeachgroup.com/content/palm-beach-daily/this-crypto-could-dethrone-bitcoin-as-king-of-digital-cash/35368/
