15141  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How do you market effectively in a bear market (advice needed) on: September 20, 2018, 10:23:26 AM
there's no way around it. the hype is dead. it's a bad time for public fundraising.

if it were me, i'd either try to do a private investment round, or weather the storm and wait for better times before doing a pubic ICO. there's no magic answer here when altcoins and tokens are in the throws of a bear market. advertising right now is such a tossup with investor interest at all-time lows.

Factor into this that almost any investor - individual or these popular pooled investment groups cropping up - got or is getting into ICOs as speculators and you end up with the same conclusion that token sales are pretty much low targets in this market. People investing with the main Bitcoin/Ether currencies don't feel they're getting goof value, so the only ones really keen are those token holders (so ICOs based on other platforms maybe) or those with fiat to invest.

Great idea? Working product just seeking to expand? What is attractive in a normal business world won't appeal to crowdfund crypto investors making decisions purely based on token economics.

Very comfortable wins for all legs of our parlays... would actually have made close to 12x had we gone for 1.5 handicaps on all winners, but then I'm happy to book in a 5x win all the same.

Europa League beckons tonight, and I got my eyes on Steven Gerrard's side to start of their campaign with a thumping performance. Villareal are no pushovers, though, so I'll hedge with a +1.25 handicap. Completing the parlay will be a ML bet on Chelsea and Celtic.

Game 1 Rangers v Villareal, Rangers +1.25 @2.03. Closest competitor odds: 2.015
Odds advantage: +0.74% Units advantage: +1.5

Game 2 Chelsea vs PAOK, Chelsea WIN @1.64. Closest competitor odds: 1.631
Odds advantage: +0.45% Units advantage: +0.9

Game 3 Celtic vs Rosenberg, Celtic WIN @1.48. Closest competitor odds: 1.473
Odds advantage: +0.48% Units advantage: +0.7

Parlay for 100 units (1 unit = 1,000 satoshi) @4.9406. Competitor parlay @4.8409
Total Odds advantage: +2.06%
Total Units advantage: +9.97 units

Running units advantage after 16 bets: +90

Running units after 15 bets (7W|8L): +892.44

City were so sloppy. They had zero leadership on the field and were just all over the place. They seem to really be missing De Bruyne, and so I reckon Pep should have brought on Sane and Aguero at half time to try to change that.

Genuinely lolled at Aulas's "A vanity project for Silva" quote though.

Was watching the game in Switzerland, since my kid actually supports the enemy but I needed United to win anyway for a 3-legged parlay to work out. Young Boys could have easily scored first but for poorer finishing, and that was the lousiest penalty decision I have seen in a long time. Ball practically flies at your body, you move your hand away but no one can move that fast. Still, better to kill off Young Boys now then have them progress. No Ronaldo to meet United is also a big deal, silly red card. Juve still get 3 points with 10 men and 2 penalties, so Old Lady still knows how to win.

But I would have loved to watch City go down. I could only follow stats and they had 15 shots, so I assumed it was just bad luck but match reports suggest they were playing shitty. Too bad the shit performance didn't start in EPL but let's hope they repeat the slip up again there. Why didn't he play Aguero?!
15144  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-20] Crypto Exchange Zaif Hacked In $60 Million, 6,000 Bitcoin Theft on: September 20, 2018, 06:23:09 AM
Yeah, that is a lot of funds in a hot wallet, for an exchange barely known outside of Japan. Though I think the other vague details are quite typical for a recently discovered hack and most likely lost in translation?

What I've been dying to find out now is how those insurances are working out. One condition for the licence is signing up for insurance. With more than 5 hacks in 12 months at my recollection, one wonders if these policies will be at a huge premium for exchanges.
15145  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reason why 98% of sports bettors lose money long term... on: September 19, 2018, 08:50:20 PM
Clickbait title is fine, but for a sports tipster, that's an incredibly terrible use of statistics. You sent an email to 1000 people? How many were active users? How many of those who didn't use your tips did better than you? Who knows? You didn't track that, so there's no statistics, just lazy arithmetics.

Tips are okay but if you don't have a history to show, there's little that can be said of their worth. 10 games? Bet base? Got to do better than this if you're selling a service.
15146  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Has Been Quietly Bullish Since $5700 on: September 19, 2018, 06:37:57 PM
I do see the higher lows, everyone does, but six weeks is really not that much of a yardstick, and it's barely three months since the year's low in June, so I don't think we can say for sure we're not going to retest those depressions of 5.5k. Any drastic sell off, with sustained volumes, at this level? 6k would break easily and then 5.5 is only the next floor. Breaking that would probably trigger another wall of orders, then we're back to groping in the dark.

Why Bitcoin ETF though? Haven't we already given up on that?
15147  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Odds, units advantage | BitcoinRush.io Sportsbook | +80.03 units | 15 bets on: September 19, 2018, 06:06:32 PM
wow liverpool odds really dropped !! I was able to bet it yesterday at X2.33 , not thro rush but rush had a little bit lower odds than the other asian site I used
for today I have bets for all the selections that you chose
I took liverpool to win and Liverpool to score over 1.5 goals
took over 3.5 for dortmund game
and took Napoli -1

still watching the lines for Barcelona's game cause I want to bet BTTS but waiting for the odds to go over X2.00 , it was higher than that yesterday actually but didn't go for it and now the highest I can find is X1.93

anyways we should have a fun night  Grin

I know! I actually also saw it at 2.3x at Rush even earlier, but by the time I booked it, it had dropped to 2.18 (which was still a nice win), and then as you saw from parlay above, 1.9x.

Lost the parlay because RS Belgrade parked the bus and Ancelotti couldn't get new Napoli to break them down. I didn't expect them to defend at home, really, because do they really expect to get points away against PSG and Liverpool?

Anyway, doesn't dampen my mood for another 3-legged parlay for tonight's games. Straightforward bets:

Game 1 Young Boys v Man U, Man U WIN @1.74. Closest competitor odds: 1.724
Odds advantage: +0.93% Units advantage: +1.6

Game 2 Bayern Munich vs Benfica, Bayern WIN @1.55. Closest competitor odds: 1.539
Odds advantage: +0.71% Units advantage: +1.1

Game 3 Juventus vs Valencia, Juve WIN @1.98. Closest competitor odds: 1.958
Odds advantage: +1.12% Units advantage: +2.2

Parlay for 100 units (1 unit = 1,000 satoshi) @5.2992. Competitor parlay @5.195
Total Odds advantage: +2%
Total Units advantage: +10.42 units

Running units advantage after 15 bets: +80.03

Running units after 14 bets (6W|8L): +462.52
15148  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: September 19, 2018, 01:29:39 PM
Thanks for pointing that out, MagicSmoker, because it seems to be a continuation of the topic that I have already been discussing with BlastMechanism.. and surely, s/he/it seems to have a lot of views that are at minimum in tension with each other and surely some folks would have already written him off as being highly contradictory and perhaps compromised.

Currently, I am NOT sure, but I do find it quite problematic when members become overly defensive in their posts and then resort to what seems to be exaggerations in order to make their points.  I understand that even older members can sometimes be guilty of the same (defensiveness and exaggerations) including yours truly, but frequently when older members are called out on their erroneous ways they can often engage in a kind of dialogue that at least tempers their behavior, even if they do not admit to the transgression (including yours truly).

I did give you a merit for pointing me out to that post and your thread, even though I don't agree with all of your points in your thread, it seems to be a good proposition to consider and for members to consider how much due diligence they believe is prudent prior to meriting newbies, especially those newbies with a relatively long history of nonsense posts.

I should really spend a bit of time in Meta... all the discussions I'm missing out on.

It doesn't feel that long ago for me, when I first joined (re-joined actually, first time I came only to browse and post a question, second time was over a year later in 2016, couldn't remember original account so made this account). It's pretty common I think for the early members of online communities (and older newer members like yours truly) can forget how it feels like to join a new community talking about what is still a very new technology for many.

I shudder when I look at my old posts. And worse, from chat logs in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Half my smerits I credit to posts I've found useful and educational. Half I divide to reward those I've found to be entertaining and generally, I do try to reward active members who do their best to contribute (in whatever form). That's probably very subjective for people.

I can appreciate that I had barely turned Hero when merits were implemented. My points gained since would only have made me a full member after 7/8 months. Assuming I continue at this rate, which really is doing no more/less than what I do, I'll rank up in 2020 and that's fine for me.
15149  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trace Mayer: "Bitcoin prices may fall further in 9 months" on: September 19, 2018, 11:08:27 AM
Will the news come true? BTC price of $ 3K.

It's not news. Key word in the tweet: "perhaps"

He's saying a multi-year bear market and $3K are possible, but that it's actually getting less and less likely given the current price action. I'm not sure I agree with his system but he's projecting $10K for December 2018 and $15K for June 2019. A general ramping up heading into 2020, the year of the halving.

I'm sure plenty of bulls agree with him. I lean slightly more towards the $3K scenario, but the longer the sideways goes on (and especially if we break the last daily pivot around $7,500) the less bearish I get on the 1-2 year timeframe.

I do see a lot of bulls slowly shifting their outlook in the past couple of months, but these are those not only holding but speculating for short term profits with Tether reserves whipping around Bitcoin. Working out so far, catching the peaks and rebuying into the lows, all taking heart at the string of higher lows.

I'm still feeling we're deep in the woods, though. The shellshock of the altmarket was bad but Bitcoin hasn't had that sort of battering so I'm still expecting it to come. Doesn't change the long game, though. It's already seen a multi-year plateau, so it knows how to get out of another.
15150  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Some countries where Bitcoin is legal, illegal or neutral! on: September 19, 2018, 08:59:57 AM
We cannot really confirm that your post is 100% accurate as some countries are still questionable when it comes to the legality of cryptocurrencyu especially Russia and China. If you will look at the Alexa rankings of popular Bitcoin faucets you will always see that Russia is in the top 3 visitors of that website, which means that this websites are not blocked by the Russian government, their citizens can even use cryptocurrencies freely without being apprehended by the government. In China you will see another point where two of the top 10 cryptocurrency exchanges are operating inside China namely OKcoin and Huobi, now if cryptocurrencies are illegal in this country why are we seeing companies like this operating freely in that country?

Well, Russians, Chinese, Iranians... all those ever forced to find ways around state censorship and restrictive freedoms of access, they're probably a lot better informed than some of us in circumventing firewalls and ISP blocks. Plus, the Russian government hasn't exactly will to deploy the resources for a crackdown, which people would anyway find ways around. Look at Iran's recent experience, and Venezuela before that. Tried to ban it, tried to block access, but people found a way, and P2P trading thrives.

Impossible to block faucets and other sites who'll just put up mirrors.

The Chinese ban in on yuan trading... you're still perfectly fine to to crypto-to-crypto, and if you're in Hong Kong, autonomous jurisdiction presides.
15151  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-18]'Wild West' Bitcoin 'should be regulated' [BBC] on: September 19, 2018, 06:07:43 AM
Wonder when the actual report was written, probably drafted last year to collect dust on some desk before getting aired. 1500 different currencies? No well functioning cryptocurrency? Bitcoin hasn't had any down time in a decade, while we've seen some fiat die in the se period while other payment systems have crashed multiple times.

I do agree with consumer protection, similar to the tenets of Japan's regulations. End of the day, though, if Bitcoin works and is used as intended, customers must learn to be responsible for themselves. Kinda the whole point.
15152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool £25 in btc to join on: September 18, 2018, 09:11:39 PM
Boom! Liverpool! Hurt me to see Salah off the mark today, and basically almost handing the draw to PSG (their first goal offside btw and we should have still had the 3rd goal from Salah). But every hero has his off day, and he still worried the Paris back line.

It was every bit the pulsating match was looking forward to, and injury time winner from Bobby the perfect announcement for Liverpool's campaign. Milner covering both sides of every blade of grass, Dijk even playing 1-2s near opponent's box. Sure PSG had good plays but got to say their forwards were practically anonymous, actually surprised at the absence of Neymar theatrics. Lovely, lovely stuff!

Was it my channel or were the away ultras so noisy I could hardly hear Anfield?

Well done to #1 so far, whoever that is.
15153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Europa League/Champions League Lounge on: September 18, 2018, 07:00:44 PM
We paid £3,000 for 2 tickets to the final in Kiev last season. I have a contact to get normal match tickets for approx double of the rate the club sells them for so around £100 each for a Premier League game. This guy I got his number off a ticketing site over 10 years ago. He has multiple tickets to every game home & away. If you are ever wanting to go I can pass on his mobile number.

That's just crazy man, I could probably scrape that amount together if there's another final, God knows I want that once in my lifetime. But thank you for the offer, that's really awesome of you. I recall buying mine from a season ticket holder (so had to return the cards after) and I thought it was well worth it for the atmosphere, but they didn't want to leave me any contacts after of course I could understand why!

I'll keep your offer in mind.

And what a game by Inter! I watched Barcelona but caught the 92nd update and saw Icardi's highlight goal. Blazing start to CL. I only picked 3-0 Barca heh.
15154  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Europa League/Champions League Lounge on: September 18, 2018, 01:15:50 PM
Yeah group F looks like something from the EL. I’ve got 2 tickets for LFC vs Red Star & LFC vs Napoli. Disappointed not to be going to the PSG game but I wasn’t able to get tickets. A tout I know was charging £250 per ticket for PSG at Anfield, I paid that last season for the Man City 1/4 final 1st leg. I’m not paying way over the odds for a group stage game.

Will be in front of the TV Tuesday night instead, no problem though.

Brother, I would love to contribute something to you if you could get a banner out there for us Bitcointalk supporters, since you're probably the only one who can attend. I paid exorbitant prices for the only game I ever attended at Anfield and it was only a EL semifinal. I'll of course apply to finals once they're open in March, and I can see advance touts pricing them at EUR 2.5k. Like who the hell can afford anything.

Was hoping we'd get a Dutch team so I can watch their away games but then we dropped to Pot 3. Torn between hoping maybe they advance and get drawn with the Reds for Last 16 or even QF, or that we get drawn with bigger names = more exciting games.

PSG's manager probably still has nightmares from the last Anfield visit, so he'll be tightening up at the back. I got a good feeling we're raring to go tonight though. Everyone is relishing this game.

Massive game tonight - Liverpool vs PSG
As a lot of you guys know I’m a massive LFC fan, heart says LFC win 3-1, head says both teams to score in a draw.
Will be a game full of attacking play though - Mane, Salah & Firmino vs Cavani, Mbappe & Neymar. Could be lots of goals.

Van Dijk will be key tonight, the guy is a monster.

Heart already put down 3-0, head says it will be good to come away with 2-0 or even 2-1. Hope Milner's ironed his shirt tonight.
15155  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Some countries where Bitcoin is legal, illegal or neutral! on: September 18, 2018, 12:43:47 PM
The wikipedia Legality of Bitcoin By Country list is actually pretty accurate and is updated quite regularly, so I don't see extra value in this list, which actually is less comprehensive, provides less detail and fewer references.

It's helpful to understand also that from a legal perspective, unless Bitcoin is specifically made illegal, then it is legal. If it is not against the law, by definition, it is legal. Therefore, it doesn't need the law to OK it or even recognise it (like in Japan). Even unrecognised, as long as it hasn't been made illegal, it is legal.

There is no "neutral" in a legal perspective. It either is legal or illegal.
15156  Economy / Exchanges / Re: c-cex.com on: September 18, 2018, 09:23:00 AM
The signs don't look good either, from where I'm standing. I have an account with them, just never used it, and I can tell you now that they've been spamming my email for the past few weeks with all sorts of really shady offers, which generally suggests that they're desperate to get people to deposit more funds, probably so that they can pay off pending withdrawals.

Can't remember the exact offers as I deleted them all, but stuff like 1% bonus on deposits or even higher if you deposit more. Red flags every time I get those type of "please deposit with us and enjoy free money".

Sad state of affairs, sadder that we're getting used to it.
15157  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: SIGNING MESSAGES ON BLOCKCHAIN.INFO on: September 18, 2018, 09:18:36 AM
OP, you're probably referring to having staked an address on this forum, like this thread in Meta. This involves signing from a Bitcoin address you own, and having someone there verify the signed message and quoting it, so that it can't be deleted from records.

It also means you should have done it before your account was hacked, so if you're asking how to sign a message, then you probably haven't done so before... in which case it's pretty pointless to do so now. You could try signing from a Bitcoin address associated with your old account, but it doesn't prove that you owned the address while it was associated with your old account.

Protect your account by staking an address!

And we now have more losses than wins, which is what to expect when most bets are parlays. That's not going to stop us from trying, especially with Liverpool playing tonight.

Odds have edged closer towards Liverpool who take on PSG at Anfield, dropping almost 7% since the Single Bet I made >2 weeks ago but it's still a decent doubler, but why not go big tonight and take a look at 3-way parlays for Europe's top dogs?

15159  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: what are my options for paying bitcoin with it comes to flying and vacations? on: September 18, 2018, 06:41:30 AM
Personally, rather than having to start searching the Internet for those that accepts bitcoin and you have to go a step further to establish their credibility because the moment you send your bitcoin, you are now at their mercy to fulfil their own end of the bargain I would convert into fiat then pay for the service. This would not only expand my choice to pick from reputable organizations but also, I get to save cost which would be as premium that I would have paid using the bitcoin option.

But establishing credibility and reputation is what I'd do with fiat payments anyway. Most of the sites already mentioned already have some years of experience and with that, credibility amd reputation. And as much as the onus is on the merchant to attract Bitcoin-paying customers, it's also down to users to want to use their services.

On expansion of choices, isn't that also what Bitcoin options do? Where I'm located, not all merchants accept Visa, for example some Dutch merchants only accept the local bank cards (like cheaptickets.nl only accept iDeal) whereas others only take Visa/Mc which aren't accessible to everyone. Bitcoin represents the one currency that anyone in the world uses. Talk about widest possible reach there!

And cost? The flight options I took at abitsky were cheaper by almost 10%. I ended up using that savings to book extra options... Insurance, baggage, etc. Good deal if you ask me.
15160  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: My phonenumber is blocked due to circumstances: no access to my wallet on: September 18, 2018, 05:18:05 AM
Doesn't look good, if 2fa was required to access, it's very likely OP's on a web service wallet, but anyway, more than enough advice to go on.

1. Recover wallet if possible (if you have seed or private key).
2. Get your phone fixed. Probably easier if you don't have (1). Pay your bill, recover the number. Phone companies can do that easy.

The main reason why I don't use 2FA, I don't want to be dependent on a 3rd party to be able to log in somewhere. If I can not have a full control over the 2FA, ok, otherwise nope. And if the site doesn't give the choice I simply don't use it and switch to something else. Binance is a good example, you're forced to use 2FA or you are not able to transfer out anything, no problem, there are plenty of exchanges to use instead

@OP, your only hope is what @ETFbitcoin posted above. good luck ^^

That's poor logic. 2FA should be mandatory on every CEX no matter what. Not being educated isn't a good enough excuse anymore. Reputable exchanges aren't letting newbs take risks that they shouldn't. If they offer SMS 2FA then they aren't secure anyway and should be avoided. Google "sim port hack".

Buy a physical key like a Yubikey. If you get malware your randomly generated 120 character password won't save you, but a physical OTP device will. It's 100% reliant on you and not your device turning on or your phone carrier keeping your account active.

OP you really need to explain what you're trying to say. If you physically have your phone and you held bitcoins on it then you still have the same information whether you paid your bill "circumstances" happened or not.

I actually don't like 2FA either but I do use it to protect funds, and agree it has to be minimum standard now. And yes, SMS verification is not only less secure, it's almost certain to be unreliable at some point.

LeGaulois, maybe a suggestion. Use Google Authenticator now, and install the extension, so you're not device-dependent for 2fa. If you lose a phone/device, you just "restore" my google. Yes, this means Google is your single point of failure, but if the only way to get into that is already hot-wired into memory, you're ok. Methinks that if I'm tied to a chair and forced to give up a password, I already did better than having them access my device.
