Our backyard here backs onto the bank's lot, so my use of the term "here at home" was maybe a little looser than a first glance might assume. Wink

The building beside us is Nova Scotia Legal Aid, on the corner, then the Royal Bank, around the corner.

The rest of this block of our street is the local cable/internet provider, we are about the only house left that they haven't bought up.

So its actually quite a nice little spot to call home.

All my buy and sell orders are just left-over profits I left on the exchange, not my actual capital at home in my wallets. Smiley

While you are at it maybe for people who set up exchanges on shared hosting all the ancient GCI-script etc advices saying to use chmod 777 could also be worth warning against...

Yeah okay forget that part.

A secure datacentre is still good though.

Maybe the guy who previously had a USD$10million project in mind would be interested in going in on it.

(That was over in the investments section though and I haven't even looked in that part of the forums for ages now.)

I am looking into setting up a datacentre, see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=230141.msg4539024#msg4539024 and following conversation.

I made 100 bitcoins free and clear in one day a few months back.

So I don't know how much I'd have on hand some lucky morning to throw in above and beyond whatever I thought I might have.

A few lucky days like that in a row and maybe I would say heck with partners I'll go it alone.

Also of course this insanely low exchange rate crap that has plagued bitcoin for so long might end any time giving us much more reasonable prices for bitcoin.

So I really don't know.

I am also looking at other options such as

http://annapolis.kijiji.ca/c-real-estate-other-Price-reduced-Farm-for-sale-homestead-self-reliant-possible-W0QQAdIdZ512786311

and

http://www.valj.com/index.php?mact=VAN,cntnt01,default,1&cntnt01category=comm&cntnt01inc=A&cntnt01listid=4456&cntnt01returnid=60&p=60

as smaller starter setups.

Plus currently renovating my country-house to experiment with what one can do in the way of a cryptocoin-powered house...

Think Open Transactions.

Websites are notoriously insecure.

Next best thing to Open Transactions would be what MPOE uses: every order is a PGP-signed message plus the way he uses amounts and addresses makes sure there is a totally undeniable audit trail throughout.

The website bases exchanges wtc do not even give you undeniable irrefutable signed receipts fergoshsakes. Except, despite them, whatever the blockchains involved can provide. (But the blockchains provide no proof of what you ordered/offered etc...)

They say the first million is the hardest, after that it should all start flowing much easier... Smiley

EDIT: Oh and as to the payoff for the service of storing gold, well, ask e-gold about that, oops...

I am an "ex-pat" Brit who is a "permanent resident" (aka Landed Immigrant) of Canada.

Things like gold could probably be insured. The R.C.M.P. always gets their man and they are armed...

We could maybe do without armed guards and just have good witnesses - Commisionaires maybe - and recordings and rely on insurance and the eventual effectiveness of the R.C.M.P. in recovering any stolen goodies.

It is all very civilised up here.

1529  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 16, 2014, 04:44:50 AM
Of course it is in Canada.

What commies?

Coloured coins can represent things like grams of gold. Things like that can be stored in vaults.

Well okay, they could represent huge bars of gold. Things like that can definitely be stored in vaults. Smiley

(That is a concession to the idea that a mere few grams would hardly call for a several acre secured compound as they could fit in some tiny safe.)

And yes of course I am serious. Its just that half a million bucks is a little larger percent of my crypto holdings than I want to move into land/infrastructure investments just yet, since I still expect my crypto holdings will increase in value faster than such infrastructure investments. I could swing it alone but would prefer not to as I expect I'd end up kicking myself for not holding coins instead. So I want to gradually diversify into infrastructure rather than blow half a million CAD at a time on infrastructure this early in this particular year.

I am interested in all eight merged mined coins.

But I have physical infrastructure expenses hitting hard right now.

Also I am looking at a secured compound with massive UPS and generators and satellite dish (huge, in a big geodesic sphere type thing) and security systems and such, looks to be a steal but likely to cost a half million CAD or so plus will need work. (Plus I will want to add solar arrays and windmills.) It is a fully fenced ex military installation with gatehouse and all that. Anyone interested in investing in a massive secure merged mining and Open Transactions servers datacentre?

Maybe we could also add vaults so it could also serve as a secure place to keep precious things represented by coloured coins...

(Since it already has all the infrastructure for having armed guards and so on.)

The registrar might provide a redirect service. I think godaddy and namecheap do for example.

So that Vlad can set the domain to go to a specific URL.

Might not be ideal for SEO though depending how they actually implement it.

Its not just the repo giving a 404, your entire username gives a 404.

Did you get the mixed-case wrong or something?

Noob here... please help...  Huh
I hate to bother everyone, I have a simple question and I am lost. I went and downloaded Devcoin wallet and it stopped downloading at 29669 blocks, I have looked and looked and I am getting more lost, can someone please direct me to a solution, thank you very, very much in advance.

-Branzig

Does it always stop at the same block each time you start it?

Or does each restart get you a little farther?

Also, you didn't indicate what wallet you downloaded, from where, for what operating-system and hardware...

Where are you doing this and is it between DVC and BTC or LTC?

DVC/BTC. Thats why I said Satoshis instead of, for example, Liteoshis. Cheesy

1537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: January 13, 2014, 08:20:21 PM
DeVCoin price is actually quite high still, it had hovered around 30 Satoshis for a long time, a bit below, a bit above.

But periodically it skyrockets, last time all my sells through 193 Satoshis got bought, allowing me to reinforce my buys massively.

Now we are in the usual drop back down, eating up my buy offers, providing me DeVCoins to place back on the sell side. I have half a million DeVCoins for sale at each price all the way down to 63 Satoshis now.

Maybe this time we won't quite hit 30, we'll see. My buys get bigger and bigger down in the low range so might be able to gobble up all the dumping before it even gets as low as 30. I am looking forward to the next skyrocket though, maybe it will go over 200 on the next one...

1538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 11, 2014, 01:52:55 AM
Maybe relate it to "X marks the spot"? Marked coins. Mark a coin with your "X" - your arbitrary label, name, mark?

"I 'X' this Coin... Let X be a gram of gold."

"I 'X' that Coin... Let X be a share of my company."

Etc.

Mind you, when minting stops the limited number of the coin existing might drive the price out of reach just as Bitcoin prices seem to be driving the use of Bitcoins as marked coins for low value items out of reach. Maybe in the end a coin that keeps minting forever will turn out to be where at least the low end (low value) marked coin applications will tend to go.

Addresses don't show on the network until coins are sent to them.

So if that is your Devtome address but you have not received coin there yet it makes sense that the network was not seen it yet.

Though usually Unthinkingbit does a test send to make sure you listed the right address..

Burning bitcoins is good for the rest of us that hold bitcoins but is nonetheless kind of stupid.

There must be better ways to distribute initial coins, and ways that are more evenly spread across recipients too.
