I think only a few users here use the service so I think it's not alarming.

This. I used to play a bit with them, when my Betfair account was closed, and it's a pretty shitty exchange. I don't know anyone who plays there and 99% of liquidity comes from their market makers imo.

What turned me off was their commission model (not sure, if it's still the same). They charged commission on every matched bet and this is just a no-go. You can punt there, but even some low-frequency trading is already a nightmare. If you are doing multiple trades in a market you are totally doomed. The commission will eat a huge portion of your winnings, if not all.

I am waiting for the day there is a real competitor to Betfair. They are really annoying with their monopoly and can do whatever they want with their customers. After Betfair shut down for a lot of people, Betdaq got some more liquidity, but it was only short-lived. Everybody returned to Betfair sooner or later with faked utility bills, bought accounts or via agents.

(...) the kick off rule in which the players are only 5 yards apart and begin to move only after the ball is caught is probably the rule that will be adopted the soonest since it protects the players.

Yes, think so too and I quite like that rule. NFL wants to get rid of kick offs for a long time and the way they do it in XFL seems to be a good compromise.

Last week I didn't notice any of the teams attempting anything but 1-point conversions from the 2-yard line, and I thought it was odd.

Commentators said, the 3-point-conversion from LA was only the second successful one, so I guess there weren’t that many by now.

1-point-conversion is of course fine, if you trust your running game. In the end it’s maybe just a mathematical calculation. If you are able to convert a 10yd (pass) play with 33,33+%, then you are better off just attempting the 3-point-conversion every time. Maybe some lower percentage would be fine as well, since you don’t convert the 1-point-conversion at 100% and the 2-point-conversion at 50% most likely (or pretty sure !).

But when you look at how teams often struggle to move down the field for just a FG and all the effort it needs to get there, these 3 points look pretty cheap.

Being from Belgium, I have followed her comeback more closely, but I still can't understand why she wants to come back. While she has some talent, it will be very difficult to win tournaments as there are nowadys a lot more young talents. Sometimes, I think she only is coming back for the money, as she has signed already a television deal...
Edit: she lost the match against Muguruza in 2 sets, she is not yet in prime condition  Wink

Yes, she lost, but second set went to tie-break, where she had her chances, but was a bit rusty. Being out of competition for so long, always makes you lack in sharpness in tough situations. But I still think she played pretty well and would have beaten a lot of girls inside Top100 today. Playing Muguruza, who seems to gain some form again, was a bit unlucky.

The top athletes never lose their passion for the sports. Clijsters retired pretty early, so her body is maybe more like someone in her early 30's (leaving the pregnancies aside here). Afaik she was still playing some exhibiitions and/or charity matches in the last years, so you can see that she never hung her racket up. Those girls often want to have children as well, so it's not easy to time everything properly for them. They have enough money for the rest of their life and they don't want to be old mothers. So you often see WTA players around 30 getting pregnant (Vesnina, Minella, Shvedova come to my mind) and halting their career or even call it a career.

Life on tour isn't easy. Those that hate it, just accept it as part of the game. Those that don't bother with being on the road for 40 weeks a year and living in hotels all the time, being jet-lagged frequently, are more likely to come back after pregnancy. Dementieva for example retired the same age as Clijsters, since she wanted to have kids. She never liked the tour life and thus never came back, just enjoying family life. Clijsters seems ok with going through all the hassle again and I don't think she does it for the money. I guess she has enough money and if not, she could always work as TV commentator or something like that.

The team have decided to close the campaign due to low response from forum. Everyone is free to remove your signature.

Former world #1 and multiple Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters is just giving her comeback at WTA tournament in Dubai. It's her first pro match since  losing to Laura Robson in the US Open in 2012 (!). She is a mother of three by now, but after watching the first few games I have to admit that she looks to still have it Shocked She is not in top shape, but she is just so talented and still has good zip. Will be intresting to see, if it's just some comeback for a few months or maybe 2-3 seasons - she is 36 now.

P.S. I happen to have my all-time fav Euro band representing Belgium (Hooverphonic). I've been listening to them ever since their cover of This Strange Effect hit my eardrums in the 1990s. So I actually have a band I support in this edition. If anyone wonders what 1990s triphop sounded like, without mentioning Massive Attack and Portishead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu2nSWSgFa8

They finally released their song (and video) and it is named, ta-da, "Release Me". It's a very pure and sad song, but quite nice, though I don't think it's winner material. Such songs tend to land somewhere in the 5-10 range. Odds went from 25ish yesterday to 60+ now. Belgium often has trouble getting past the semifinal, but the times they did in recent years, they had good placements.

The french song will be released this evening(20h50 CET) but it has already been leaked on social networks.
The song has been written by the (swedish) authors of Euphoria (winner 2012).
Tom Leeb -The best in me
https://twitter.com/archive_de/status/1229005840172056576

In the twitter link he starts english and switches to french afterwards. In the youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-1WR2Vd7Qk) he starts with french and then switches to english, weird. I like that song, especially the switching from englisch/french, but odds have gone up for France during the evening, so looks like the market doesn't like it Grin

I still couldn't find the song from North Macedonia (Vasil Garvanliev "You"), so if anybody has a link to it, please post.
1551  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 16, 2020, 10:56:09 PM
Turned off the channel right after the first quarter, it was awful, certainly not watching LA Wildcats game again.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I sat through the second half and it was worth it Cheesy Good action in Q4 and even Josh Johnson showed glimpses of why he was able to be at least a journeyman in NFL (13 teams in 12 years).

This 3-point-conversion is very worth trying imo - after every touchdown. It gives as many points as a FG and attempting a pass from 10yd line is often better than from like 2yd line. There are a lot of different rules in comparison to NFL (which is quite confusing) and from what they said, this is a testbed to adopt some of them for NFL. I would have to watch some more games, to see if any of those rules could change anything for the better in NFL.

Final result: Dallas 25-18 LA
1552  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 16, 2020, 09:19:20 PM
First half done in my first XFL game Grin Quality wise it's quite poor compared to NFL, but way better than GFL, what I accidentially watch from time to time. There were turnovers all over the place, miscommunications etc.

They have only 25sec per play and thus play no huddle offense mainly. This should normally make for a fast game and lots of points, but nope.

There are often sideline interviews from players that just made a great play the previous drive. It's a good idea, unfortunately it's just some bla bla like you hear so often from athletes. Seems to be some delay too, since they beeped out the f-words.

You can hear what the refs talk when a flag has been thrown and if some player engages in that discussion you can hear that too. Quite interesting. There was a booth review after a fumble, that was ruled down by contact initially, and you could hear the refs in the booth talk as well. Some coaches are mic'd up, f.e. the OC from the Wildcats, and you can hear their playcalling.

German commentators said that players earn a base salary of $27k per season with bonuses being added for winning games etc. From what I understood it's the same for everyone but the QB's. Some of those QB's might even earn more than the NFL minimum (which is around $500k).

Hard to get some NFL feeling all in all, stadium is maybe 50% full.

Score at halftime: Dallas 3-3 LA Cheesy
1553  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 16, 2020, 04:28:50 PM
Are you watching it on TV or in person? I figure the games might be on ESPN+ since its a pretty new thing, I can't see it being behind a ppv or subscription package like NFL gamepass.

Would love to watch it in person. Not only because it would be quite some fun, but it would also mean I would be in sunny and warm LA now and not sitting in some shitty, rainy and windy weather Grin It will be streamed on some german website, that is also doing the main coverage for NFL here.
1554  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 16, 2020, 03:09:30 PM
Will watch my first XFL game today, when the LA Wildcats host the Dallas Renegades Grin

I have no idea what to expect tbh. From the previous results, it looks like there is not a lof of points scored, which is a bit meh, but lets see. Landry Jones is set to start for Dallas, while LA will have Chad Kanoff under center - never heard that name. Wikipedia says, that he was signed by the Cardinals as undrafted FA and also stayed with the Lions and the Bucs. But he didn't get beyond practice squad with these teams. Will probably have a small punt on Dallas.
1555  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion & Betting] Eurovision Song Contest 2020 on: February 16, 2020, 10:53:32 AM
For the moment my preferred songs are (in order) :
  • Spain : I really like the chorus of the song "perdoname, perdoname, uni-universo"
  • Greece : catchy gimmick "bye bye baby bye"
  • Lithuania : very artistic and contemporary choreography
  • Italy : amazing crescendo

You should start placing some bets on Spain then Smiley

The odds for the countries that have announced their entries until now (taken from Orbit Exchange).

The market is still young and it's missing liquidity of course. For those not familiar with exchanges - right hand from the blue fields are orders waiting to get matched, f.e. someone is looking to place a bet of 2,- Euro on Spain.

Lithuania is pretty low for my liking. I like the song, but don't think it's special enough to have a shot at winning that whole thing. Will be interesting to see how the markets move as more and more songs get announced.

While Germany sits at around 40-ish at the moment, bwin has already a bet up, if Germany will get zero points (5.00 yes / 1.13 no).
1556  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion & Betting] Eurovision Song Contest 2020 on: February 15, 2020, 11:16:40 PM
I think it's good choice, (...)

Yes, one of the better entries so far for my liking, has some 80´s vibes, especially that sequence starting at around 1:16. That trousers from the frontman are hilarious though Grin

Some more countries had their national selection finals today.

Yes, Norway selected their entry as well. Ulrikke with "Attention" has won the Melodi Grand Prix and will go to ESC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYI_FrDixLY

The intro is great, but then a bit lame that whole song. It's missing some climax and/or up-tempo. Only in the very end, there is some more "action", but maybe it's liked by the people. Norway is another country that is always doing quite well and often has very good and perfectly arranged songs.

Edit: Looks like the song from North Macedonia is now known as well, but I can't find it on Youtube.
1557  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion & Betting] Eurovision Song Contest 2020 on: February 15, 2020, 09:07:31 PM
Armenia had their national selection tonight and it will be Athena Manoukian with the song "Chains On You" representing them at Rotterdam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgT9EjD_0No

Not the music I like, but it can of course still be successful in ESC. Armenia is a country that tend to be very succesful in ESC anyway. They have yet to get a Top3, but in 13 participations, they finished Top10 an impressive seven times (54%). Last two years they failed to make the final though and by my judgement they will fail for a third time in a row.
1558  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are your recommended ways of gambling. on: February 15, 2020, 02:00:51 PM
As far as my own logical reasoning is concerned, the party which has the edge will almost always turn out the winner, especially in the longer term. In this case, the house.

Yes, this is correct. What Diced90 says is correct, if each player plays only once ever in his lifetime. Then you would have 49.5% winning players and 50.5% losing players. But this is not the reality Wink

Lets say a gambler plays 1,000,000 times against a house edge of 1%. He always stakes 1 unit per play/bet. He would lose 505,000 units and win 495,000, netting him a loss of 10,000 units. So on average he loses 0.01 units per unit staked. You can't beat house edge in games of luck longterm. You play against a machine that is programmed to take 1%, 2% or whatever from your stake on average.
