1541  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will we be able to mine Litecoin with ASIC's? on: October 17, 2012, 06:41:15 AM
Litecoin uses 128.5kB memory, I doubt the fpga itself has this memory, so you need some memory chip(s) besides it.
And even then, currently there is no litecoin bitfiles to load to the fpga, so those must be created also.

eventually it will be created then. minimum of 1year
I'm not sure about that.
A few posts back I calculated the total mined bitcoins vs litecoins converted to $, the value of bitcoins mined was 40 times higher than litecoin.
So if it will be created, the profit will be a lot less, unless ofcourse if the litecoin value rises a lot more compared to bitcoin.

No downer for me. Still very interesting to see that such a little fpga can do so much with the right bitstreams.
It still is a nice piece of technology Smiley

Are you sure there is no enter or space character added at the end?

This one? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/435762-REG/Avid_7010_20000_01_Mojo_SDI_Portable.html
Look expensive, but I don't know if it is the same device version.
Some video editing device... I'm following this topic Smiley
1546  Other / Off-topic / Re: We don't have enough ridiculous threads about BFL. on: October 15, 2012, 04:59:13 AM
I've heard BFL wan't to break to highest freefall record after the redbull stratos jump, so next year there will be a BFL stratos jump from 2 times as high.
1547  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE Payment Claims (Announce your payment here) on: October 14, 2012, 07:40:16 AM
Please, post the transactions IDs to proof the claims. That is the only way to verify and legitimate payment claims.
What does that prove?
If I want to claim I've received some funds I can just lookup any transaction in the blockchain and post it here.
1548  Other / Off-topic / Re: New SC Little Single better than SC Single ? on: October 13, 2012, 08:00:47 PM
2. Better redundancy: If 1 x 60Ghs Single fails then you are down by 60Ghs, if one of the two 30Ghs Singles fails, then you are down by only 30Ghs
If a device has 10% downtime, the 1 x 60GH/s gives you 54GH/s effective, the 2 x 30GH/s gives you 54GH/s effective, so no difference in there.

If a device has a chance of a failure capable of bringing the host system down it also brings other mining devices down on that way. So if the chance of such type of failure is the same on a 30 vs 60 GH/s device, then a single 60GH/s is better than 2 times 30GH/s.

If the devices are build with chips capable of doing 1.5GH/s they need 40 chips for the 60GH/s and 20 for the 30GH/s device. If a single chip failure can bring the entire device, the 2 times 30 GH/s is better.

If the devices are build with smaller boards containing 5 chips of 1.5GH/s and a single chip failure would bring such a board down, if won't matter if you have 60 or 2 times 30 devices.

So, my conclusion is I don't know. I need to know more about the setup and possible risks to make a good judgement.

My calculator says $699*2=$1398

/edit
Oh, $699 must be $649, so the $1298 is correct.
1550  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the CPU still not that important when mining with ASIC devices? on: October 12, 2012, 11:58:46 AM
If the only thing that would be sent over usb is the 80 byte header and the nonces that give a valit share at difficulty 0, you need 80 bytes to the device and 4 bytes from the device on average per share.
The miximum speed for usb 2.0 is somewhere around 35 MB/s so that gives 35M/80 = 437,500 shares/s at difficulty 0.
437,500 shares at difficulty 0 is 437,500 * 2^32 = 1879 THash/s.
The protocol to talk to the asic miner will probably cost a bit more data, but you see, usb isn't holding up anything.

Ah, so no problem for me, I'm from the Netherlands and use euro's.
1552  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Got off the phone with the Guy from the S.E.C on: October 10, 2012, 12:01:56 PM
Maybe that is his "plan", close GLBSE, open a complient business.

who would trust nefario now if he would open a new business?

The same people who still believe pirate is going to pay, are still using Intersango and keep falling for obvious scams.

What is wrong with Intersango? I used it several times without any problems.
Only thing I know about is some banks in some countrys won't process payments to and from them for whatever strange reason.
1553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will we be able to mine Litecoin with ASIC's? on: October 10, 2012, 07:10:51 AM
Another thing to keep in mind is the price of bitcoin and litecoin.
Amount of bitcoins mined in a year (with current 50BTC/block) is 2,628,000 at current (BTC-E) price = $ 31,793,544
Amount of litecoins mined in a year is 4 times more, 10,512,000 at current price (BTC-E) = $ 777,888
Difference of a factor of 40, so a lot less money to spend to make hardware to mine it.
1554  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: difficulty on: October 09, 2012, 06:10:03 PM
Zelfs als je precies weet welke hardware er draait en op welke snelheid kan je het nog niet precies berekenen omdat er ook een stukje geluk in zit.
En als er een pool ge-dos't wordt zal dat ook invloed hebben.
1555  Economy / Securities / Re: Are bitcoin based securities illegal? on: October 09, 2012, 11:06:16 AM
Trading an unlicensed security for value is illegal. Question is, do Bitcoins have value?

What if you sell glbse tokens for bitcoin and these tokens have no value but there is an exchange somewhere that trades them back to bitcoin off glbse itself? What if you create a version of bitcoin created by a private company and in their tos it says the cryptocurrency has no value and yet people still trade it ala linden dollars ?
The moment someone is willing to pay/trade something with value for something without value, the thing without value has value.
If I'm willing to pay 10 euro for an empty bottle of air, that bottle of air has a value of 10 euro. Maybe I don't have enough euro's to buy all bottle's of air, but when I still have enough euro's to buy one bottle more, all bottle's have the potential value of 10 euro.
1556  Economy / Securities / Re: Is your last Withdraw address on GLBSE the correct one? on: October 08, 2012, 09:33:23 PM
My last was to an exchange site, I believe one where I still have access to.
But fortunatly for me I have nothing left on glbse, everything sold and withdrawn.
1557  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: October 07, 2012, 07:21:31 PM
I like the transparency of gigamining, especially the site where you see the status of all your miners.
Maybe it would be a nice idea to transfer the coins you would have normally paid on glbse to the bond holders to a special bitcoinaddress.
That way everybody can see the coins are still there for when you will be able to pay them to the bond holders.
1558  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What ELSE could ASIC Mining devices be used for (Theoretical) on: October 07, 2012, 02:05:32 PM
If the chip is removable from the device you can maybe change it for another asic with the same pin-layout so it can hash faster or use a different algorithm, but I wouldn't count on it.
1559  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: SHA256 Collision Attack on: October 06, 2012, 01:24:42 PM
I don't have the time right now to read it, but somehow I think the attack isn't related to the 160-bit but more to the algoritm.
So if a flaw is found in SHA-1 with 160-bit, and you make a SHA-1b with 320-bit, a collision can be found in somewhat the same time.
1560  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's going to happen to the old returned BFL Singles and Mini-Rigs? on: October 05, 2012, 06:19:30 AM
Maybe they add memory to them and start mining litecoin  Grin
