I just realized someone posted this video before: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=433602.0sorry about that! Explain to them that Bitcoin has several advantages: - It permits direct transfers of funds from one person to another, with no middleman (bank). This eliminates the need to trust this third party, and eliminates the fees that they charge.
- It cannot be forged/counterfeited! This is not true of any fiat currency, or even gold.
- It cannot be inflated at the whim of any government or bank. Inflation occurs when the quantity of a currency is increased, either by simply printing more (or doing the equivalent electronically), or through a process called fractional reserve banking. Find out more about this here.
- Transactions cannot be reversed -- they are final. Once a merchant receives bitcoin funds, they cannot be taken back without his permission.
- It has the essential qualities that a currency must possess, some to an extent never before seen. It is divisible to any extent, it is completely fungible (every bitcoin in indistinguishable from every other in value), it is portable as no non-cryptocurrency is, since it can be sent anywhere as easily as an email or text message (imagine the problems sending $10 million in gold to Zimbabwe).
- It obviates many of the needs for banks, since you can safely keep your money yourself (once you follow some important security guidelines).
- It does not require identification of agents in a transaction, thus eliminating the major cause of identity theft.
If you manage to convince them this, also help them visually by explaining them how it all works, from creating a wallet, sending BTC and send them some small amount or buy something from them for BTC if they are willing. Damn this thread just got serious... but nice list

Several times I have paid for sex. I hope no one close to me finds out about that. So have I, but all my friends know about it and I get girls either way so it doesn't matter God knows and he is disappoint in you . I've asked for his forgiveness many times, and he made me like this right?

It forces people to realise that Gox is a piece of crap, and has always been a piece of crap. So now the price can stabilise. >_>
This is the only thing good about this crash... I hope Gox is done away with soon. But I would like to see another bullish uptrend, it's been a minute

Alts are like penny stocks. boom one day, bust the next. On bitbet you can make a very educated bet. For example" bitcoin and litecoin will lead all virtual coins in market cap throughout 2014."
That sounds like a risky bet to me... bitcoin is ok but I'm not sure about litecoin

So according to OP and his internet friend now we're in for a bullish longterm trend? Or are we still waiting for BTC = $500 to happen?
I doubt we'll see any bullish uptreands until may or june

I hate it when people say that. You want BTC to die so you can buy more, but what's the point? Yea $300 doesn't mean BTC is dead but that's a hell of a crash, it will hurt its reputation as a storage of wealth and keep people away form investing.
Even at 300, its 1y % gain is still ridiculously high. Yeah maybe for you, and all the super early adopters... but too bad that mindset is discouraging most people from getting involved

I haven't been keeping up with the news because I'm usually not concerned about price drops... but WTF is going on, is this another FUD phase with a short downturn or should I actually be worried?

Bitcoin is going back to $300 USD again Lets hope so, I would love to buy coins at $300 a piece! I hate it when people say that. You want BTC to die so you can buy more, but what's the point? Yea $300 doesn't mean BTC is dead but that's a hell of a crash, it will hurt its reputation as a storage of wealth and keep people away form investing.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it already but the best way to increase your BTC is through ALT coins... there are so many alts that jump 100-1000% every week.
coinedup, mintpal, and cryptsy has cheap alts.
The best ones to find are the ones that are around 1-4 satoshi, and do your research to see if the devs are good and if they have any kind of potential... those make the best profits.
MEOW went from 1 satoshi to 100+, now it's back down around 50 but it's still a good buy imo
it is risky but big profit. OP was asking about method with minimum risk of losing his BTC Invest into alt if quite risky. Some of them gone with the widn faster than we could imagine oh ok, people were mentioning bitbet and poker and shit like that... that seems far more sketch and risky than doing some research and investing in alts
