15621  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dota 2 - The international 2018 on: August 15, 2018, 07:57:49 PM
EG are the only team so far to have gone 2-0 in their first qualifier. As I said, I really like their roster, with Arteezy, s4 and Fly being favorite players of mine. I suppose I can start liking them again now that Fear has left - I hated him and ppd.

Secret are currently being beaten by Serenity - who are they?
15622  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dota 2 - The international 2018 on: August 15, 2018, 04:23:19 PM
As a very casual watcher, I can never keep up with all the roster changes. Who is favorite to win this year? Having had a quick glance at the teams on liquipedia, I would assume VP or Team Liquid, although EG have a nice line up.
15623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A man in UAE took six figure loan and lost 85% of his crypto value on: August 15, 2018, 04:15:10 PM
What a moron.

The first rule of any investment, particularly crypto, is to only invest what you can afford to lose. A loan, by definition, is not money you can afford to lose.
15624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which are the 3 best coins of the top 20 from coinmarketcap on: August 15, 2018, 04:13:46 PM
Bitcoin Cash- I know this coin gets a lot of hate but Bitmain is pushing Bcash hard and they have the funds to keep the price high.

Bitmain is pushing BitcoinTrash because they are bagholding millions of dollars of it and have no way to offload or sell it. They want other people to buy only so they can sell and exit the market, and the market will dump as soon as they do.

You would do well to stay away from BCH.
15625  Economy / Economics / Re: Do sin taxes work? on: August 15, 2018, 04:11:27 PM
Quote
But if there is a problem with sin taxes, it is not that they are ineffective. Rather, it is that they are inefficient. Sin taxes are blunt policy instruments. People who only have the occasional drink are not taking on any great health risks, yet they are taxed no differently than serious alcoholics. A similar logic applies for sugar taxes. Tobacco presents a slightly different problem. Nicotine is highly addictive, meaning that there are relatively few people who smoke cigarettes only occasionally.

I think this is a small price to pay. If I have to pay an extra dollar or two for my pack of beer once or twice a month, I'm not going to notice it. The alcoholic who is paying an extra few dollars on the bottle of vodka he buys every day is definitely going to notice it. Sin taxes have been shown to work.

I'd also support them from a Pigovian tax point of view - the extra tax on these activities can be used to offset the excess healthcare costs associated with obesity, alcoholism, smoking, etc.

Having said all that, crypto definitely shouldn't be subject to a sin tax.
15626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How to predict the start of a new Bull Market using a data driven model on: August 15, 2018, 04:03:29 PM
I mean, I completely believe there will be another bull market at some point, but I can't help but think of the phrase you common hear over and over again in relation to traditional investments:

"Past performance does not necessarily predict future results."

Just because previous bear markets have lasted x amount of time, does not in any way mean this one will be a similar length of time.
15627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 15, 2018, 10:41:50 AM
Even if you just put in a 1-1 for draw for every game the entire season if you really can't be bothered - last season there were a good few weeks where 1-1 for everything would have got you a three exact results and a bunch more "close" results.
15628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 97% bitcoin gold crash should feel like a bad omen to you on: August 14, 2018, 06:08:51 PM
I bought a Chinese fake copy cat phone that didn't work, so Samsung and Apple will be next to fall.

My second hand $300 car broke down, so Formula 1 as a sport is now defunct.

My local little league baseball team is shit, so that must mean the Yankees are shit.

These statements are only marginally more stupid than what OP is claiming.
15629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Currency Investment Account - %1.09/month Unconditional Interest Rate on: August 14, 2018, 09:33:44 AM
Your website offers absolutely zero details as to how you plan to use the invested BTC to turn a profit. Absolutely zero. All it says is "give us your money, and we totally definitely promise we'll give you back more in a month".

This reeks of a scam. Avoid at all costs.
15630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO Exit scams have stolen more than 100M USD on: August 14, 2018, 09:09:22 AM
That’s according to a report from Diar, which found that ICO exit scams have now cost investors nearly $100 million.

ICO exit scams have now cost investors idiots nearly $100 million. FTFY.

There is no shortage of scam ICOs because there is no shortage of idiots who are willing to send their money to obviously shady trash. People traded Bitconnect for months after it was blatantly obvious to everyone that it was a pyramid scheme. The majority of ICO threads on this forum have people pointing out their obvious flaws, followed by 100+ newbies ignoring these flaws and posting vacuous nonsense like "great project" and "to the moon". The majority of newbies have no idea what they are investing in, and don't bother to find out.

Until this stream of morons dries up, scam ICOs will continue.
15631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: VeChain and WaltonChain- long term investment on: August 14, 2018, 09:02:48 AM
Because they swapped Vechain tokens into Vechain thors and it is very hard to calculate it.

The conversion rate between VeChain (VEN) and VeChain Thor (VET) is 1:100, so if you divide the VEN price by 100, you would get the corresponding VET price. That should let you calculate the ATH equivalent.
15632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Jihan Wu in half a billion in losses after BCash trade on: August 13, 2018, 11:50:13 PM
Good. Him, Ver, and the rest of the BitcoinTrash scammers have spent months tricking newbies in to buying their scam coin thinking it is "the real Bitcoin" (such a ridiculous phrase) - they deserve to lose all of their stolen money.
15633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin dominance ruining the market on: August 13, 2018, 11:43:28 PM
Bitcoin isn't making the altcoins slide. The fact that most altcoins are scams or trash is what is making altcoins slide. Most altcoins don't even have a working product - they aren't worth a thousand dollars, let alone the millions or even billions some of them are valued at.
15634  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: John Mcafee & Bitfi launch the first 'unhackable' hardware wallet on: August 13, 2018, 10:39:54 PM
gentlemand, everytime a post from you in this thread pops up on my watchlist, I actually get a tinge of excitement. Watching serial scammer McAfee and his shills getting repeatedly wrecked is just too fun.
15635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 10x below coins good to invest? on: August 13, 2018, 05:13:19 PM
it is very safe to choose on the top 10 coins

No it isn't. The top 10 includes multiple scam coins like BCH and EOS. The value of these is only going to go down long term.

The safest bet is BTC, but nothing is "very safe" in crypto.
15636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: August 13, 2018, 07:10:46 AM
Fulham is all out in this season and buy so many players, i hope it will give a good result on the next match.

I know. Fulham are the first promoted side ever to spend over £100 million. They have essentially bought an entire new team. Their team is good on paper, solid mid-table stuff, but it is going to take some time for all these players to gel together.

Will be hilarious if they go down after spending so much.
15637  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin ban violation could carry a 10K$ fine on: August 13, 2018, 06:58:45 AM
Are the banks really so scared of Bitcoin that they need to start fining people who want to use it? That screams of desperation on their part. Greed on top of greed. Maybe if they weren't so greedy in the first place, people wouldn't be scrambling for an alternative.
15638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a 2 way factor for bitcoin and ERC20 digital wallet? on: August 13, 2018, 06:55:56 AM
A phone number could be which will be registered to that digital wallet and every time you will do transfer the process should ask a code that is being sent from your phone number in order to proceed.

Using a phone number and SMS as your 2FA is inherently insecure as thieves can quite easily get your phone number transferred to another SIN, rendering the entire 2FA meaningless. You are much safer using something like Google Authenticator.
15639  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Review about Revolut! Better than Coinbase and other exchanges. on: August 12, 2018, 10:01:15 PM
You are not actually buying crypto on Revolut. You are buying a crypto tracking product. As mentioned above, you can't move your crypto to another wallet, spend it, transfer it, hold the private keys, or even see its public address. All you can do is sell it back to Revolut.
15640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 10x below coins good to invest? on: August 12, 2018, 09:34:55 PM
Not necessarily. Just because a coin has dropped a lot means it will go back up to its previous highs. It maybe be dropping because it's a trash coin like Tron or EOS, and will only continue to drop, even after the market recovers.

Much safer to stick to Bitcoin and the one or two alts that aren't trash.
