Highly recommend either blockchain.info or even better mycelium. it's a great wallet for android Smiley

I've heard a lot about mycelium.  Blockchain has way to many things required to log in for my daily wallet use.

Been using Andreas Schildbach's wallet for almost a year now, and haven't got any problems so far. Reading from OP and the progressions of the thread, I still couldn't figure out what exactly is your problem. Huh
15742  Other / Meta / Re: How many active members are there? on: April 15, 2015, 01:18:19 PM
I'm wondering. How many individual members are there that have:
- Posted at least once in the past week
- Logged in at least once in the past week

- Posted at least once in the past month
- Logged in at least once in the past month

Do not include newbies/brand new users.

Would be nice to see some stats regarding the above. Around 250 new members register each day, most being bots that disappear after they are created.

There is a page wherein you can track the number of active users in this forum but I need to sift through my post history before I can post it in here. Also, the all-time stats of the forum can be seen in there, but until now I can't figure it out why are there no stats for the column "Most Online" from May 2013 up to this month.

Anyway, I hope I helped you in this one marco, though I'm not fairly sure whether this page satisfies what you need to see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats
15743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin? on: April 14, 2015, 01:24:34 PM
THIS
IS
WHY
YOU
SHOULD
BE
MINING.

If you are a "bitcoiner" who does not mine you are NOT a bitcoiner.  You are allowing others to control the network.. tsk tsk tsk.

Sorry but I beg to disagree on this one.

Being a bitcoiner doesn't mean you should mine--same as using fiat. There are no strict prerequisites before using money afaik, same with bitcoin. Do you need to be one of the producers of these paper bills that they're handing out before you could use it or be one of the users of it? I think not. Being a bitcoiner doesn't mean you should mine to be called as one; using the coin alone means that you can be called as a bitcoiner. If what you are talking about is the case, then I shouldn't be called a bitcoiner because I don't mine and I do not have the means to.
15744  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Stats (Global) on: April 14, 2015, 11:01:43 AM
Is this what you are looking for - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats ?
This page tells a lot of stats.
Also I would like to have a page where I could see who is on the top in case on reporting posts? Or theymos/badbear can announce it like they did earlier.
Thanks for posting the stats of this forum. I have a question regarding the stats: why are there zeroes on the "Most Online" column from May 2013 to April 2015? Can anyone explain this to me?
15745  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: April 13, 2015, 07:29:41 AM

But sometimes, investing your money may result to a loss, which is against the purpose of "saving" it from any other entities. Saving really helps, be it hiding the money under a pillow, a closet, or even putting it in a bank (which sometimes yield a small percentage gain) because you can get it from there in case an emergency situation happens. On the other hand, if you invested your money in a certain business, a period of time should take place first before you can get your investment in that particular business, because you cannot simply give them money and withdraw it whenever you like.

If you area  good investor then most of the times you wont lose, or you gain more than lose eventually.

It's all about risk control, no pain, no gain lol.
Investing is a gambling so maybe you will loss or win but if you have a experienced on  investimg you would not loss and you can earn a lot of money by investing.

Certainly not true. Even the most experienced investors sometimes face losses and failures. There are a lot of things that could happen along the way if you invested  your money, so if you invested in on a well-known company, don't be 100% sure that you'll make a profit. There are always hurdles along the way, even in the paths of the most successful investors.
15746  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: April 12, 2015, 08:29:42 PM
Do both.

Invest 50% and save 50% (will change depending on your risk profile).
Saving more than 20% of your income is just wasting your money's potential to earn. You may do it, of course that is your choice, but you will be better with investing it, inflation of FIAT money are gonna eventually eat some of your savings away, depends on what currency you are using sooner or later. Check out this tool. It will help you calclutate your loss if you keep your money without investing: http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

Well idnt but for me "saving" and "investing" is equivalent isnt it?

You cant just save it by putting money under your pillow, because the central bank thieves will steal it with inflation, so definitely investing is saving your money from those thieves.

15747  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I can earn from the Signature campaign? on: April 12, 2015, 07:04:10 PM
Seeing that you already have the sufficient information for you to get started, you might as well lock this thread because apparently, this thread will be bombarded with the same replies until it is locked. You can do this by clicking on edit and additional options, and just tick the lock this topic option.
15748  Other / Meta / Re: "THE LIST" on: April 12, 2015, 06:44:04 PM
Well if you really want to filter the crap apart from the valuable ones, you really need to do some heavy work to achieve positive results. Campaign managers do a lot of work, but filtering and setting some standards before accepting users is a good way for them to save money, too. so why not add an extra effort in managing the said campaigns? Setting limits to the number of users who are eligible to join the campaign is just one way of reducing the number of crappy posts in this forum. If this is done by campaign managers, we could still see the valuable topics that should be discussed regarding bitcoins.

You should open a thread in the service discussion and ask if the various sig. campaign manager will help you in that cause but as CIYAM written in his post "any publicity is good publicity". I predict a new spam wave with the introduction of the "avatar campaign" maybe the unique valid solution is the "ignore function".

I would look into it, seeing that avatar campaign might soon take place in this forum. Advertisements such as these from services should really select those who will enter the campaign accordingly. Thanks for the reply.
15749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying and holding BTC without mining.. on: April 12, 2015, 06:35:51 PM
the difference is that, you will not increase your total bitcoin, by holding only, while with mining, if you manage to reach the roi point, you can earn more bitcoin than the amount you started with

If that's the case, then why not trade and make them?
I have seen people talking all the time to buy on rumors and sell on news, and if an average joe gets a good command on that, he might make a good living with BTC.

trading is more risky, instead mining can generate a guaranteed return in the end, if you have very cheap electricity and you paid a low amount for your miner
mining is equally risky. you have to take care of the management and the risk of hardware failures. bfl and gawminer has shown us how reliable mining manufacturers are. even if you have cheap electricity, the difficulty increase is unpredictable and you would still have chances of not getting roi thus making no profits.

i still see it as a less risky, you don't need to be a pro at mining, where for trading you really need to have some serious experience, or you will end up losing everything

mining is more noob friendly for sure, this is way many newbies ask for it

Though mining is noob-friendly, still it isn't budget-friendly. Power bills will surely eat your investment if you do not have an effective and efficient hardware. To be successful in mining, you must have the powerful hardware and a low electricity bill. GPUs and CPUs aren't that effective in mining nowadays, though there are still some altcoins out there that can be mined with those.
15750  Other / Meta / Re: "THE LIST" on: April 12, 2015, 06:26:50 PM
So what is your solution for all who are wearing a signature ad?  Are you using the grue scrypt (through a browser extension)? Again it's a forum for all the type of people, not only for who has some knowledge (or maybe 'high knowledge in bitcoin').

The script won't stop the topics being bumped or hide the crap content (just hides the sigs) - how many times do I have to repeat it is the "crap content" not the "actual ad sig" that is the problem.

I'd happily see my own sig go and ban sigs altogether from the forum.

Ok, so the sig ad generate crap posts. Is this your thought? Then the real problem are the various signature ad campaign and the crap posts are generated by users that don't know what write in their  'posts'. This, I think is the problem... but I don't know how to resolve it at all.

The signature campaigns aren't the problem; the users enrolled in such campaigns are. I mean, come on, you don't want to spend your time reading crap posts and other spammy content. You came here to view relevant discussions that may be of help to bitcoin and to the community as well. I think the best solution--if people still want the signature campaigns to be present--is to limit the number of users entering these campaigns and set up some standards before accepting users and considering them "eligible" in joining one. Doing so may decrease users who most of the time posts crap and other spammy content just to boost their post count.

This, it's a nice and (maybe) real solution but all the manager/maintainers of the signature campaign should cooperate in the selection of the valid users. I have suggested to pay all the quality posts and not the number posts, but it is obviously a lot of work and it will be not a good promotion to those services related to bitcoin.

15751  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama wants you to know about aliens!!! - Men In Black Russian Documentary on: April 12, 2015, 06:22:28 PM
Nasa reveals it will ‘DEFINITELY’ find alien life - in as little as TEN YEARS

TOP Nasa scientists said they are on the verge of finding life on another planet and ALIENS could be discovered inside a decade.

Jeffery Newmark, interim director of heliophysics at the space agency said it’s “definitely not an if, it's a when.”

During a public talk in Washington the space agency said the discovery that water once was present on Mars, Jupiter and Saturn meant humans were at the brink of an enormous breakthrough.

Ellen Stofan, chief scientist for Nasa, said: “I believe we are going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth in the next decade and definitive evidence in the next 10 to 20 years.

“We know where to look, we know how to look, and in most cases we have the technology.”

http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/569049/Nasa-find-alien-life-TEN-YEARS

That means they already have... they just want to admit it slowly so the public doesn't go into a mass hysteria.

I'm also thinking of that, too, because seeing the technological advancements the human race since the industrial revolution is definitely mind-boggling, given that most of the earliest humans stayed using primitive weapons and tools for thousands of years. There must be something going on within the reach of the general public, but I do think that there are actually living beings--apart from Earthlings--that exists in the vast expanse of the universe. The humans might have already made a contact, but the people behind those didn't want the public to go crazy over it, so they prepare the public in a slow and steady pace.
15752  Other / Meta / Re: A Question about setting a Secret Question on: April 12, 2015, 06:08:03 PM

The answer that I put is pretty much complex if you might ask me. Unintelligible, I might say. Thanks for reminding me that the secret answer should as complex as possible so as to avoid being hacked by somebody. Smiley

Why don't you just remove it instead?

I am assuming you store the 'complex' password somewhere?

Yup. The answer is stored safely. Also, thanks for the idea that I can remove the security question and the answer as well.

I guess there isn't any limit. I tried 5-6 times but didn't find get any time limit or warning.

Resetting your secret question:

• If you don't want to set secret question, make the secret question field blank in sertings, type your password and click update.
• To change your secret question, change question in secret question field & type answer and click update.

Thanks Muhammed Zakir for the great reply. It greatly helped my understanding on this matter. I might as well locked this topic now because all of my queries are answered thoroughly.

Thanks for all of your replies! Cheesy

Errm, you do realize that there are only few countries who consider bitcoins as "illegal" right? And if you say that being a part of bitcoin is not good, then why the hell did you even involve yourself and joined this forum in the first place? Also, what do you mean when you say "legal"? Under some regulations and authority?

What's the need to be so rude? I dint reply to you so if you don't agree, just IGNORE my comment. I know that Bitcoin is not legal in my country and sooner the time will come when I will stop using it. I am surprised that sometime back I had sent you a PM explaining you about DDos attack when you had asked me about the same and this is the reply I get that "why the hell have I joined this forum." Thanks and I feel honored now.

Anyways, this post was about ignoring newbies and I need to stick to that only. I hope that newbie jail is implemented soon as they not only spam the forum but also misuse the trust rating.

Uhhm, I didn't want to be rude in any way. If you got offended by that comment, my deepest apologies. I'm just stating my point, but I guess it offended you so I'm sorry about that. Sad

Going back to the topic, sometimes even users with higher ranks (especially those who are enrolled in signature campaigns) spams too. I can see some users here that are in the Member status up that spams a lot. Boosting post count is one of the reasons I can think of. Other than that, I don't know. Also, newbies--as you've mentioned--tend to post the same thread over and over again, though we couldn't blame them, assuming that they knew nothing about the forum and where the topics are in the first place.
15754  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: April 12, 2015, 05:48:23 PM
Only time it is good to save is if you are saving in something that holds value and will be worth saving for. If its fiat money then forget saving it maybe keep to buy something for the future or to put towards BTC and then keep BTC and wait for vale to go up. Or buy some BTC start trading with it among other cryptos and earn and put the profit towards future savings for when BTC is at a much better value.

But let's face it, bitcoins--although it has a lot of potential--still isn't a surefire way to get you to your riches. It is a good investment if you planned on holding it for long, or if you played your cards right but still there are possibilities that it can amount to nothing. I am not against bitcoins but let's face it, numerous other scenarios could happen along the way. Real estate and lands have a higher tendency to appreciate in value because as more and more people populate this world, the higher the value of their place to live will be. Just an opinion.
15755  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: easy way that get me bitcoin on: April 12, 2015, 05:44:34 PM
i want easy way that i get me easy bitcoin: example this > https://coin-rise.com/ ponzi but  Wink

Hmm this question had been asked in this similar board for countless times now. Might as well check them out before posting another one, but anyway, here are some answers to your question:

Apparently, there are no such things that can be labelled as "easy money" in the current times, be it bitcoin or fiat. If you are one of the guys who knew bitcoin way back 2009 or 2010, you could have make lots of btc by mining and letting your miner hash and give you thousands of btc, or staying here in this forum and participate in giveaways. But that was then, and this is now: in order to gain bitcoins, one must buy it, work for it, or scam for it (though the third isn't acceptable or is recommended). Buying it is the easiest way I can think of if one wants to get involved in bitcoin. Working for it is also similar on having a job, except the fact that you're getting paid in bitcoins or gaining bitcoins in return. This is done by either trading, doing work for others, or by gambling (it still requires work after all.) The yields are good enough if you do not depend your whole life into it. The last one is scamming. How many scam attempts and successful scams have you heard of that happened in bitcoins? I suppose there are numerous, right? Given that bitcoin is pseudo-anonymous and does not require any personal information before anyone can use it, scammers tend to use it as a medium to their scam attempts. If you know how to hide yourself in the internet, know how to code and have a solid plan at your hands, you could easily scam people with their BTC and run away without anyone knowing your identity. Rinse and repeat and voila! You have BTC now!

Weird. Did the submitted votes just reset? I voted earlier and it seems that the number of users who voted decreased. Huh I also suggest that the thread be locked so as to prevent redundant voicing of same ideas and opinions.

I just activated a secret question in my account and for some reason, I'm not quite sure whether I did the right thing or not, because the page simply reloaded without confirmation or whatsoever.

-Any questions in the "Secret Question" field will do, right?
-I see that the secret question that I chose was already saved in that once text box when I reloaded the page. Does that mean that the process is finished?
-Last question, why is it not recommended? Activating a secret question in my understanding means adding another layer of security in an account. But why isn't it recommended in this forum?

Anyone who guesses your secret answer will have access to your account. It's like a second password.

Does that mean that anyone who guesses the answer to the secret question will already have access to my account if he/she put it into the login text boxes? I'm kinda confused. Any reply will do. Thanks! Huh

I will check Smiley

Dang!!! I will remove my secret question.

Made a guess. Was wrong. Tongue

Oh now I see. That could easily snatch up my account. But apparently, the girlfriend that I'm talking about in that secret question do not exists, because, well, I don't have a girlfriend in the first place. But seeing that the secret question can easily be cracked once you know the answer, by any chance, is there any way to reset it? Or is there a limit on guesses before they'll send you an email?

lol. Guess what I exactly typed in?

"I don't have a girlfriend." Yes. Exactly.

Didn't work. Sad

Lol of course it wouldn't work! Again, is there any way to reset it? And are there any limits to how many guesses you can make?

I just activated a secret question in my account and for some reason, I'm not quite sure whether I did the right thing or not, because the page simply reloaded without confirmation or whatsoever.

-Any questions in the "Secret Question" field will do, right?

AFAIK its free text, yes.

-I see that the secret question that I chose was already saved in that once text box when I reloaded the page. Does that mean that the process is finished?

That was my guess after I saw the question safed. Showing the answer would not be a good idea.

-Last question, why is it not recommended? Activating a secret question in my understanding means adding another layer of security in an account. But why isn't it recommended in this forum?

It is not recommended if used like e.g. Paypal (still?) does:

"What was your mothers maiden name?" -> "Sand"

Thats terribly bad as a security mechanism as this can easily be brute forced or just asked with some social skills.

If you use something like this:

"What is the answer to the secret question?" -> "hHgTVFa6pFbpyq4Ryj55TEBH"

You essentially have a second password, that can be longer and more complex than your regular password.

.... this is a forum when the people share their ideas and learn from the talent users.

Except once the "talent" gets so sick of reading all the useless posts that they leave in which case the likely result will be just newbies posting to newbies with each side only doing so to get paid for their ad sigs (with a total of zero knowledge being disseminated as neither those newbies asking questions or answering them actually care about the content of the posts but just that they get paid for posting).

I agree on the "freedom of speech" that you're reiterating in here, but sometimes crap posts overshadow posts that are meaningful and relevant. Sure we can pass a day with spams, crap posts and whatnot, but sometimes it is too much for the forum and for the users too. It's hard to participate in a discussion wherein a user will randomly comment without simply reading the whole thread. It isn't going to bear any fruitful discussions, but I sure know that spamming will bear fruitful of bans and ignores.
