• The merit system is also a barrier cause newer members see their time here to be unproductive as the bar for progress keeps getting higher, and the chances of your quality post being seen (outside certain boards) keeps dropping. There are fewer members sharing merits around these days.
This issue could be helped with more merit sources being added to ensure quality posts gets rewarded.
...

I thought so previously also. I was new in here, it was not so easy to get merits and I decided too keep some smerits for the newbies like me to share. I've got not many but enough for my idea and spent lot of time searching for newbies with good posts which were not seen by senior users. And I didn't fount anyone. Since then I just share my smerits when I see something I think deserve it and don't try to find an overlooked newbie. If you see the one, you can say to some merit source, many of them will be happy to help a prospective newbie, or you can just give him merits by yourself.
From my point of view, I think that this forum is not for everybody. Yeah, I have introduced a few persons to this forum and when they couldn't get merit for a few weeks after making some posts they all abandoned their account. This forum is for the patient, tolerant and meek.

If you are not patient enough to wait and learn about the operations of Bitcoin and the forum but expect to get merit just like that after a few posts, you might get discouraged.

Some people also think the forum is like another social media platform so they want to post uncontrollably. When they are cautioned, they become offended and leave. One of the people I brought to the forum was angry that his post was deleted.

Anyone that is not willing to learn and improve will not last here. I have also observed that patience, tolerance, and meekness are gradually disappearing among my peers.

But it will also be good to see more merits on other boards because newbies need time to learn about the technical or more complex parts of Bitcoin. They shouldn't be expected to post like others. These newcomers also need to be encouraged because they think that merits are only given to higher members.
1582  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: May 20, 2023, 07:41:53 PM
Nottingham needs the winning because it is very important for them. Nottingham defended the only goal in the match to jump out from relegation. Arsenal wouldn't have any problem if they lose or win nothing changes. I wouldn't see the result of this game to be a disappointment to Arsenal fans, because the trophy has slipped out their hands after they couldn't defeat Manchester city in their last clash. Let Arsenal prepare their team for next season and the champions league.

A disappointing season for Arsenal and especially coach Artet. They had worked very hard this season only to lose the league because of their current poor play. I just can't explain what happened to the team because there were no major injury problems. I didn't want Manchester City to win the league but the title chase is finally over.

It was a good game for Nottingham Forest and they deserved to win that game. They created many chances but it was Awoniyi that broke the deadlock. The Nigerian striker has scored ten goals in 26 matches and five goals in three current matches. It is great that Nottingham has avoided relegation. They now have all the time to channel their effort to the next season. The management of the team needs to invest more money in players so that they can build a very competitive team next season.
1583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Budget For Halving on: May 20, 2023, 05:57:11 PM
I am seeing out budgetary plans to invest exactly $90,000 in bitcoins in 2024. When others are impatient, I usually plan. The plan is to get this from my saving and loan. The action for more savings was kick started last month, it can see me through to the time of the investment when I will stop.

The plan of taking loan is also there, that sum to be invested has to be completed and the business money will be realized. This is awesome and is gonna take me only 2 years to pay my loan comfortably.
Nice plan but in some cases, it might not materialize as planned because the future can not be predicted. Investing $90,000i is a big deal and can bring huge profits but it could also incur great losses. The best option will be to invest your saving and forget about taking the loan. Most people that take loans to invest are driven by greed and don't want to invest according to their worth. If you want to have peace of mind as an investor put in what you can afford or funds that fully belong to you. You still have close to one year (based on your predictions) to keep investing. If you can afford to invest half of your estimate without the loan, then you have done well.
1584  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Effects of Binance Changing Wallet Addresses on: May 20, 2023, 05:30:39 PM
The recent announcement of wallet addresses going to expiration,
Has got me wondering, What effects, positive or negative will this have on Binance platform as well as the crypto investors and traders
On the platform, As for me I found it strange, that an address is expiring. What are your takes on this.
Addresses don't expire but I think Binance has set a timeline for the change of its addresses. So when it gets to that time it is assumed that such addresses have expired. This is a security measure to protect the exchange from scammers or potential hacks. This measure is very important because even some workers in Binance cannot be trusted. I don't think it will have any negative effect on the customers because even funds in the expired address are still safe and can still be access
1585  Economy / Economics / Re: Not all banks are going bust. on: May 20, 2023, 04:44:48 PM
If the government restricts banks from giving loans to some institutions it might hurt the economy because it is not all businesses that fail to service their loans. The problem with most banks is that they go against government regulations and engage in countless financial malpractices. Recently a bank manager gave out an uncollateralized loan to his brother-in-law making which made the bank collapse. Because most of these top bankers are politically connected they are not persecuted. In my country most of these big companies and wealthy people that made banks collapse due to toxic loans are not openly mentioned. I think this secrecy portrays the fact that there is a collaboration between the government and these powerful debtors.

This is the first time I am learning about a bank like Nationwide that operates as if its customers are shareholders. It is also interesting to know that they abide fully by the banking laws. If all banks operate this way, there will be fewer bank failures.
1586  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Another one bites the dust? Pakistan will ban crypto and never legalize it on: May 20, 2023, 04:08:01 PM
Legislation follows the interests of citizens, so whenever it is in the interest of citizens to accept bitcoin, the government will not stand against that desire, although I think that Pakistan will be the last country to regulate cryptocurrencies, and therefore its impact will be limited due to the fact that many countries have done so.

I don't know the country you are from but in my country, the political class makes policies to fill their pockets and not for the good of the masses. The people desire to be free to make their choices in financial matters. But the government will always want to control its citizens to take more money from them through diverse means.

Pakistan might not be the last country to regulate cryptocurrency. Many countries still rely on IMF and the World Bank for financial assistance. And it is becoming very clear every day that one of the major criteria to access loans and grants is to stay clear of cryptocurrencies.
1587  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Official Twitter Handle will get Disabled due to Zero Activities! on: May 19, 2023, 02:33:51 PM
I just went through the Twitter page of the forum and I discovered that most of the tweets there are related to denial-of-service attacks. Maybe what we experience today is not a DDoS attack but another kind of network problem, so nothing to worry about. I also guess that this forum is not social media savvy which is why it's Twitter and other social media account is not bubbling with activities. I was also concerned about today's downtime because it lasted for a long time. If the administrators are not comfortable with social media, it will not be a bad idea to devise other means of reaching out to members in times of emergencies.
1588  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: THE WHITE HOUSE CRACK DOWN ON MINERS on: May 19, 2023, 02:13:02 PM
The latest reports from the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) suggest the White House is pushing for a Digital Asset Mining Energy (DAME) tax following its negative environmental impact.

The proposed tax framework has since triggered an uproar among industry stakeholders, with Satoshi Action Fund CEO Dennis Porter describing the move as “unfair and discriminatory.” He added that a 30% tax policy would shift the bulk of Web3 jobs and growth out of the country despite the U.S. being the largest hash rate provider for BTC.

“Imagine if we put a 30% tax on internet companies in the ’90s,” said Porter. “It would have ensured all the jobs and economic growth occurred outside the USA.
https://coingeek.com/
This law will be a big blow to the bitcoin section and some states that rake high income from miners will be negatively affected. Although these states are bitcoin-friendly they will be powerless. Based on the legal doctrine of preemption the federal government has the power to reduce and eliminate any state law that conflicts with federal laws. But these states can challenge this unfavorable law in court. They can file a lawsuit seeking to pray the court to declare such a law unconstitutional.

If the law is enforced, the best option for miners will be to leave the US territory to other lenient countries. Africa would have been a good destination if not for the lack of basic infrastructure such as constant and cheap power supply.
1589  Economy / Economics / Re: Kraken, UK trade body derides lawmaker description of crypto as ‘gambling’ on: May 19, 2023, 01:11:59 PM
Read it completely on the link, or read the quote

https://blockchair.com/news/kraken-uk-trade-body-derides-lawmaker-description-of-crypto-as-gambling--dcfaa70466

Self-regulatory organization CryptoUK and crypto exchange Kraken have slammed a recent report from a panel of British lawmakers that suggested crypto should be regulated in a similar vein to gambling.

Crypto is not gambling, we all know that. But crypto can be seen as gambling for some people that do not understand much about them because crypto gives more hope than gambling.

Bitcoin is a commodity, most altcoins like ether are securities. Why can lawmakers think that crypto are like gambling. Are the lawmakers right about this?
Everybody or institution is entitled to their own opinion. People are free to see things differently based on their experiences and views. They are seeing the crypto sector through the lens of the current abuse of crypto coin creation and investment. Even as we speak now hundreds of shitcoins is been created. These developers are flooding the market with worthless coins that crumble in no time.

Some people see the sector as a get-quick-rich avenue. These people have turned the crypto space into a casino. They buy various risky shitcoins intending to sell them off in a few days and make instant profit.

But we shouldn't also forget that anti-crypto forces will keep on giving the sector a bad name to discourage people from abandoning the failing banks.
1590  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Factors that's why others are hesitant to start in crypto on: May 19, 2023, 12:50:58 PM
These are the things that people who want's to start in crypto who I always see by others as a problem:
  • Scam - When i first told my friends about crypto they ignored me and say its a scam

It is not only in the crypto industry, there have been a high rate of scam in almost all the sectors of the economy. But the crypto industry has a fair share of these criminal activities with the uncontrollable creation of many shitcoins and unreliable exchanges. But there are also genuine crypto platforms that have been steady for many years. But when you start to reap from your patients and confidence in bitcoin, they might be convinced of its genuineness.

Quote
  • Fear - since they thought crypto is a big scam, they fear they will just waste their time, and money investing and then wipeout after

Investing or believing in Bitcoin is not for everybody. Some people are chicken-hearted and can not take business risks. At least we know that Bitcoin has not disappointed since its creation. Business is risky and only the brave can invest in Bitcoin because there will always be fearful speculations and many distractions.

Quote
  • lack of knowledge - since they don't have knowledge and they sometimes think it will be hard to learn, they loose interest in it, but in reality with lots of information over the web and with bitcointalk its really easy to learn something about crypto
This is a slothful man's excuse. Everybody should do their research and learn about the sector they want to invest in. There are so many educational materials about Bitcoin on this forum and some other reliable websites or ebooks. So this shouldn't be an excuse because they can always access vital information.

Quote
  • Mentoring - Although others don't need help from others some are don't have the courage to start on their own and need others to guide them although as i said, bitcointalk is the way to go, but someone should point them to this site for them to realize that

Investment decisions are personal. After you have gotten enough information about a sector, it is your responsibility to choose to invest or abstain. Mentors will only counsel and guide you but they will not force you to invest. This is because you will blame them if something goes wrong.

Quote
  • Money - Although money is important they thought that the only way to earn in crypto is to have money to invest, but there is lots of things how to earn without money
  • Resources - some have laptop mobile phones, internet but others only have to rent, that is why they have less time go online and check what is going on, but if you are like this, don't stop, even though not daily but try to go online if you have time.

The beauty of Bitcoin is that you can start with what you have. You don't need to take a loan to start investing in the sector. And it is also not a full-time venture. So one can always get a job and use this sector as a side job.

Electronic or communication devices are expensive but there are also cheaper options. Renting a laptop or phone is not advisable because it could be risky and expensive. My advice is that people should take their time and save money and  get a cheap but functional secondhand device.
1591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Getting around KYC on: May 19, 2023, 11:44:15 AM

What people are discuss about privacy matter is about submitting KYC on untrustworthy site and they show everyone if they have Bitcoin. Direct P2P with a stranger is safe as long as you meet in a crowd place and trade for little amount. It's more safer if Bitcoin adoption on that's country is already big, so it's already normal if someone have Bitcoin, not like people already think you're rich because you have Bitcoin.
I will not even engage in P2p in any public place. This option will be good for a country that has adequate security. In a country where there is a high rate of criminal activities this option will not be ideal. You can be robbed even in a market and the police will just be watching.

People are not well informed about Bitcoin in my country so each time they hear that you owned Bitcoin they think you own one and above of the currency. They are not aware that the currency can be owned in less than one unit. This means there is a public perception that any Bitcoin holder is a millionaire. The consequence is that you become a target to criminals. I check Agoradesk and I was pleased that they offer deals in my local currency and it is not compulsory to register by email. I might use their service in the future.
1592  Economy / Economics / Re: Helpful mineral resources on: May 17, 2023, 08:40:08 AM
Africans are blessed with a lot of minerals that if this resources are gainfully used for benefit of their citizens, this God given resources would add colours to Africans. Countries in Africans like Nigeria, Serial Leone, Ghana, kenya, south Africa and lots more you will a lot of natural resources either misused or abandon by government and even if they see need to use them, is either abused or mismanaged. Petrol in Nigeria till today is been refined outside country and still import back to Nigeria on a high price, lots of minerals like coals, salt, kerosene, gas, petroleum and so on but no appropriate handling of this resources, so even the citizens can not benefit from it. If Africa can make use of their resources well, they will be more independent, free from indebtedness and indirect colonial system of other countries.
Mineral resources are useless without human resources. Africa is blessed with natural resources but they lack the needed human resources. And the best personnel Africa needs is good political leadership. If the continent is ruled by right leaders it will lead to the development of economic manpower. The political class must make the right policies that will make Africa attract the right investors that will tap her rich resources. Africa needs foreign investments because the continent lacks the funding to turn its raw materials into finished products. Until this happens, Africa will continue to be a poor continent amid rich resources.
1593  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2022/2023 on: May 17, 2023, 07:44:11 AM
The victory in this match is indeed very important for Al-Nassr to maintain the difference in points with Al-ittihad so that it doesn't widen too much. And Al-Nassr was lucky because Al-ittihad actually only got a draw from the match against Al-Hilal who was indeed a very strong opponent. the difference of 3 points will still give hope for Al-Nassr to be able to overtake Al-ittihad. But if Al-ittihad doesn't make any mistakes until the end of the season then Al-Ittihad will officially hold the title this season.
Michael's 94th-minute goal brought hope to the Al-Hilal.
Al-Ittihad dominated the match and they were cruising to victory that would have given them five points advantage over Al-Hilal. But they lost concentration which led to that late goal. Al-Ta'ee was outplayed in the match but they managed to get a point from this match.  Al-Hilal's next game is against Al-Shabab who is seven points below Al-Hilal and will be looking forward to closing this point gap.

Nice to hear from you! Cristiano Ronaldo has certainly been making waves with his impressive performance. In his match against Al-Ta'ee, he managed to score his 5th penalty of the season, helping Al-Nassr stay in the title race. Interestingly, league leaders Al Ittihad dropped two points against Al Hilal, which means that Ronaldo and his team are only 3 points away from the top spot! It's going to be interesting to see how the league unfolds lately. If Al Ittihad continues to experience losses in their remaining three matches, it could make the competition even more exciting. For Al-Nassr to take advantage of this opportunity, they'll need to maintain their consistency and win their own three remaining matches then.
Ronaldo has become a penalty striker, maybe he will become the highest penalty goal scorer in the world. But he is having a good experience in the Saudi league netting 13 goals in 17 matches. It is not a bad result for him considering that it is his first season. It will be more competitive to see Messi in the league next season.
1594  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Wearing Double signature (Shan85) on: May 17, 2023, 07:04:54 AM
Average income around the world. In Pakistan, it is about $1,470 annual or $123 monthly.
Cheating two campaigns brings a monthly salary that is doubled than Pakistanis' average income monthly.

Is there a place in the world you could lwhen poel ive like a king via sig campaigns?
Signature campaign: The lowest and highest payment BTC and USD in 2013-2022
I feel uncomfortable when people link crime with poverty. Hunger can indeed cause someone to engage in criminal activity but it is not an excuse. Everybody has other options to make money at least to feed. His problem was not poverty or the average income from Pakistan, he was just greedy. He can live a moderate life in Pakistan with what he earns but he chose to steal because he wants more. Some members will never engage in such shameful acts even if they are in deep poverty. What he did was shameful and has brought a bad name to his country but I know some wonderful Pakistanis that will even refund funds wrongly sent to them.
1595  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wrong Predictions as price keep failing! on: May 17, 2023, 06:26:02 AM
Nobody bitcoin price prediction has work this season, I told my friends early January that this year will still be difficult for bitcoin to rise since they're still blocks on digestive and ingestive policies of government, why bitcoin should not stay by government. But they argued me to a fault but I knew bitcoin will not gets to $40k this year. The price will definitely rise but not at the moment. Do you predict the price to any level year?
OP you said nobody's bitcoin price prediction has been accurate this year but you are predicting that the price will not get to $40k this year. I think you are contradicting yourself. I have stooped discussing Bitcoin with most people in my area because we have so many critics and skeptics. For me, the price of Bitcoin is unpredictable because the global economy is ever-dynamic. Nobody expected the war in Ukraine and the collapse of many exchanges last year. These two events affect the price of Bitcoin last year. This year I didn't expect that some major banks in the world will go bankrupt.

Nobody predicted the rise in the transaction fees of Bitcoin. We don't know the next economic event so we are just hopeful. Investing in Bitcoin is having confidence that it will overcome all economic problems that it will encounter.
1596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There is something wrong with understanding Bitcoin on: May 17, 2023, 06:01:39 AM

In conclusion, the level of people's trust in fiat from ancient times to very low. People are willing to work hard to earn fiat currency and convert into this type of investment.
People had confidence and were willing to receive fiat in exchange for goods and services because it was backed by the government. They had no option because it was the only means to survive in society. But Bitcoin is here to change the narrative. Bitcoin is giving people a decentralized way of carrying out financial transactions. Unlike fiat Bitcoin, It is giving people the right to privacy and freedom from government control.

Quote
Those who understand Bitcoin, including its volatility and choose to invest in Bitcoin, are very easy to panic about the price, even though Bitcoin has been proven to be a future investment choice. There must be something wrong with them.

Anyone that understands the volatility and decides to buy it is prepared to face the unpredictability of the market. The price of Bitcoin might be volatile but it is far better than some currencies that have lost so much value over the years. New investors are always fearful because they don't have experience with the working of bitcoin but they will get used to the space with time.
1597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to withdraw money from crypto.com? on: May 16, 2023, 05:42:26 PM
I understand that this is your first post and you would like to help but I would not start by saying how to make a withdrawal from a CEX, on the contrary you really advise against using centralized exchange platforms because sooner or later they will all end up the same.  Rather start buying from bisq and keep everything in your private keys.
I guess he is a promoter of crypto.com. Maybe he was paid to do this publicity. If this post was just OP's contribution to the forum, then it shows that he needs to read more and post less. I know that some newbies are well-grounded in the crypto space but I expect every newbie in the industry to take time and learn about the forum before making any post. I have seen many threads where newbies complain of not having merits and this kind of post is one of the reasons for such an experience. Almost everyone in this forum is aware of the dangers of CEX, especially after the fall of many perceived reputable ones last year.
1598  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is this considered a safe practice on: May 16, 2023, 04:55:49 PM
I believe the main point of this thread is to check the negative impact of using credit card since he wants to get the benefits by using it on a casino. I don’t see any info regarding having an edge when using credit rather than the bonus which his friends told.

This thread purposed is just an inquiry for possible negative outcome when using credit card. I doubt OP will stop using credit card when reading some warning here since he have a friend that keeps encouraging him to use it.  Cheesy
Some casinos that offer enticing bonuses use it as a trap to attract gamblers. I am not comfortable using my credit card for online transactions especially if it is not a reputable one. I will never do such if the casino is a new one because they can be fraudulent. You can deposit funds and they disappear the next minute.

This kind of casino can also be designed to steal or have access to the data or pin of the card. But another way of minimizing the loss is to have a special account solely opened for this kind of deposit. I will ensure that the funds in the account will be very minimal. These bonuses can also lead to gambling addiction because gamblers might be moved to gamble more because of these bonuses.
1599  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: One beauty of heirachy in Bitcoin forum. on: May 16, 2023, 08:17:55 AM
My respects  and appreciation goes out to us too, I didn't mean to leave us out of the bracket. Am glad no one distinct ranked member knows it all, thus the importance of each member.
I also am reminded of how rank is not necessary for comments and discussion in threads and posts, but its main reason is for campaigns and marketplace. Thanks again. I appreciate.
The beauty of the forum is that it gives every member equal opportunity to express themselves. Newbies and other low-ranked members can contribute to threads without discrimination. Low-ranking members also receive the same recommendation and rewards as high-ranking members if their contributions are exceptional. But this will not push aside the fact that most high-ranking members are more knowledgeable. So it will not be wrong to state that these high-ranking members have been a source of help and support to newbies in the beginners and help sections. Their wealth of experience make them versatile in multiple areas of Bitcoin giving them an edge over most low-ranked members.
1600  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you spend more-do you get more? on: May 16, 2023, 06:56:24 AM
Everyone wants to become rich. That is possible through more than one streams of income. I often say to my colleagues that if you are less than 40 and only reliant on your salary income, then you are not using your time wisely.

Even though we work the same hours, most wealthy individuals I know have many sources of income, which should tell you something. Make prudent investments in small businesses here and there. In addition to what you already know, pick up a new expertise and turn it into a side business. Between the ages of 20 and 40, you must push yourself to you limit to see what is financially possible for you.
These wealthy people might not necessarily be in charge of these businesses they have because they have mastered the art of partnership. Immediately they identify an opportunity in an area they seek partnership with other businessmen. They don't need to be present to run the business because other partners will run and give an account of the business transactions. Age 40 shouldn't be seen as the end of business opportunities for individuals because I have seen much older people starting and running successful businesses.

If in the past we wanted to increase wealth, we had to work or do business in real terms, but today's world does provide opportunities for those who have capital to develop this money, investment offers that provide large profits are of course an easy thing, it's only natural that with large capital then we easily have a business by buying shares.
For those who don't have the means of raising capital, they have to work hard. This is because it is difficult to access loans or other credit facilities if you don't have collateral. In my country banks will always require landed properties or buildings before they can be given loans. And most people don't have such an investment. This is why the poor or less privileged will have to raise capital by doing petty businesses or conventional jobs.
