One of my 7970 miners locked up. I also noticed it was running about 520MH/s @ 1070MHz.

It was an MSI. While there was no tape, the thermal paste job was horrible. Replaced it with Arctic MX-4 and everything is running as it should now.

I hope you don't live somewhere where earthquakes are common!

Figured I'd clean it up a bit

I had similar issues, increased my aggression or intensity depending on what miner you're using.

I'd love to hear what people have for their settings as well.

Doesn't AMD always have on GPU upside down?

And is it just me or is the pink capacitor below the right GPU a bit flat on top? Looks a little cut off via photoshop.

I just prefer this, clean and confined

I second that. 5970's are bloody awesome.

I'd suggest replacing the thermal pads, those are for the voltage regulators, and they can get blasted hot.

I've got 6 or so 5970's I'll be selling.

How much is the typical transaction fee awarded when a block is found right now?
1593  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mini Rig announcement by Butterfly Labs - 25gh/s on: April 10, 2012, 05:40:36 AM
- Need excitement, holding bars of Gold is boring.
- Bitcoin profit calculator shows very promising results
- I trust BFL more than Largecoin as BFL already has working products, and LargeCoin's 25Ghash@100watt is hard to believe.
- Once the box breaks even, at worst case I can ship it to a friend in Ukraine with electricity cost of $0.05, with current level it would cost $0.01 to produce a Bitcoin, so even at $0.05/BTC it should be profitable.
- Import tax is payable and unavoidable anyway, if you buy from abroad you pay it, if you buy from local shops then it is already paid and added to the price.

My other option is to spend $15k and build a mining rig with HD7970s or HD7990s, but with electricity prices I would have to leave UK and do it in Ukraine, which I don't really want.

My electricity is $0.00 and I have no VAT. Let's work out a rev share. I'm happy to host. I'd have immediate openings for ~Mini Rig Boxes
1594  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best mining software settings for the BFL single on: April 10, 2012, 05:34:17 AM

I was planning on taking apart my 5830 and soldering it into the BFL single. DE ULTRA DENSITY!... Wait? That won't work? Haha...

I have a computer that will be used to control the singles and has a vacant pcie slot. Vacant slot + extra 5830 = why not. The first comment kind of made me believe that in turning off opencl that CGminer would not see the GPU. I am glad to hear that it works though. I didn't think out my whole response before I typed it as I use 6 series cards in my one Windows machine and have to use an external tool to change the memory clocks. My linux rigs are much more straight forward to tweek as I do it all through CGminer.

I'm running a 5870 in the rig running my BFL singles. Why not, eh?
1595  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / What happens when the coins dry up? on: April 10, 2012, 05:28:35 AM
Been wondering. What happens when all the coins have been released? Does everyone just stop mining? Would that leave just people who want to contribute to the cause hashing to verify transactions? That seems like it would make it quite easy for someone to gather a modest amount of hardware and hit that 51% mark.

OR will there still be rewards for hasing? Such as the transaction fees being distributed?
1596  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining rig with wood? on: April 05, 2012, 11:00:28 PM
Building my next rig right now. Just got the parts for a 3rd rig a couple of minutes ago.

I only have 2 PC cases, so this third rig will need to rest on top of something. Will a 2'x2' piece of plywood be ok? Can the motherboard rest right on top of wood without any issues?

1597  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 1 BTC bounty --- What is the best FPGA unit to buy? on: April 05, 2012, 10:56:58 PM

This board is the cheapest in its class for hashing power, electrical efficiency and warranty the nearest competitor is two of the new x6500 FPGA boards and this works out cheaper.
Two X6500's (without heatsink) would be 800MH/s@34.4W and $1130USD.

These have heatsinks.

These boards you are peddling are most certainly not the "cheapest in its class". You may want to get your facts straight.

Why which board is cheaper?

edit: if you mean the BFL-Single that only has a six month warranty (this has a minimum of twelve months[maybe two years{I have to clear that up}]) and the BFL-Single operates at twice the wattage.  As I said two of the new x6500 is its nearest competitor and this board works out cheaper.
Or not.

1600  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How do you start a computer without the Case power button? on: April 03, 2012, 02:51:02 AM
So I grabbed an MSi K9A2 CF v2 for $45, and bought a CPU on newegg for $20. I have a power supply on it's way as well. I will be running (3) 5830's on this rig. Although I ran into a slight problem... How the heck do you start a Motherboard without the Case's Power/Restart button? I assume I would have to hot wire those little JFP1/2 pins to start the computer up. Would I need any resistors, diodes, etc? Or would simply connecting two pins together with a small wire work?
Just touch the PWRBTN pins with a screwdriver, no need to keep them connected. Hold for 4 sec if you need to hard-shutdown the machine.
Awesome! I was hoping it would be that simple.
In the bois enable "Wake on power loss" then all you have to do it plug it in to get it to turn on.
