Again: the general public already thinks bitcoins is just one huge fractal scam.

Thats reassuring actually.

lol I love this thread
1583  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 31, 2012, 06:57:47 AM
I don't get it.
This time I tried to use more reasonable indicators.

- We are a good bit lower than EMA50 (which is at 11.43)
- RSI was down to 20, now went up to 40 again
- MACD is bearish on the daily timescale since October, but getting a bit "better" now
- MACD turned bearish on the weekly scale, for the first time in 2012
- asks are a lot more than bids, I think even without the singular walls
- total accumulated orderbook looks bearish too, which is a rare thing
- heck, even google trends went down, despite all the news!

WTF!
Why is it climbing and climbing?!?
This is the first time I speculated with my Bitcoin savings because I felt so sure it would fall strongly and go down for a longer bearish period.
Sold at 11.08, which we will reach again in a few days, it seems.

I feel like water is dripping through my hands, no matter what I do.
..and if I was to buy in again, with a huge loss, I can be sure it will drop like a stone two days later!

Even the big drop from peak 2011 wasn't as depressing for me as it is now..

What the hell is going on!

Ente

Just buy, hold and forget about it if the daytrading is too much for you. Big time long term bull flag.
1584  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 31, 2012, 03:26:15 AM
Yuhfhrh hit the buy button  Wink
I sold at $10.95, I don't think $11 will hold up at all.

we'll see EXTREME resistance at 11.xx
then the order books will flip at 12$
then its to the moon!

I lay it out for you'll to play it out Cool

FTFY

we'll see EXTREME resistance at 12.xx
then the order books will flip at 13$
then its to 15!
If we get past that its to the moon!

1586  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Good news; ECB 2012/10 report on virtual currencies on: October 29, 2012, 09:14:44 PM
Yes, this actually is a really good report.

hazek

[snip]This also means that since the only difference between bitcoins and dollars is that bitcoins' physical counterparts aren't legal tender that they admit dollars, euros and the rest of the fiat currencies are essentially virtual currencies.[/snip]

I don't follow.

bitcoins - virtual currency with physical counterparts (Casascius, bitbills, ect..)

euros - "electronic" currency with physical counterparts that are legal tender

Seems to me, there is only one difference between these two currencies and it's not that one is a virtual currency and the other isn't.

What is the difference between an electronic and a virtual currency...  Huh
1587  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I acquire property, and through my hard work, improve the land I now own. on: October 28, 2012, 11:02:25 PM
While I'm unfamiliar with both the point of this thread and this mantra... there are essentially two ways of "improving land" as I see it.

1. Modifying the speed of succession to promote an increase in biodiversity
2. Increasing the ability to extract productivity (food, material or otherwise)

The best strategies for land improvement do both of these things.

p.s. It could be argued that the survival of civilization as we know it depends upon a large portion of the populace understanding how to implement both of these strategies.

Looks like at the very least a near term bull is forming

1589  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Paypal just bent me over on: October 27, 2012, 06:14:39 PM
...hmmmm

I wondered if they hummped you because they were't getting their share!

I think there are two reasons:

1. Squashing the competition (they have no interest in seeing bitcoin thrive)
2. High maintenance account: I likely had a much higher ratio of chargebacks and fraudsters come through my account than 99% of other paypal accounts.
1590  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 27, 2012, 05:55:34 PM
I think that analysis is about right Robo. I know I'm still out and not going to touch it until its down at that range.

I refuse to turn bull until the weekend is over.

Or at least until the exponentials cross  Cool

We might as well assume that 18k ask wall is fake. I seriously doubt that when the momentum shifts he will keep that thing up.
1594  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Paypal just bent me over on: October 26, 2012, 12:00:32 AM
No, they see the sharp increase in funds in the account, that flags you. If I were you I would have them do all sorts of updates on the account, call them and talk to reps and ask them to tweak the mailing address or whatever. This will push you into a different status (I have done it before when they put a hold on my account.) and you will get an email saying you will be notified when the funds are available. And that 180 days will become 45.

Thanks for the tip - to be honest I'm not really worried about it. I'm thinking about it as an investment in a CD with a 6 month turnaround at 100%. Not so bad when you think about it like that =)

Yeah I agree, same way I looked at it, havent taken the time to verify another account either. BTW Paypal does not officially check any documentation you send them. They have asked me for proof of ownership from my supplier for things I have sold from around my house before, I just scanned a target receipt and sent it to them and they approved it. Its all for posturing and finding ways to hold onto your funds longer nothing more.

Lol that is ballsy.

I assumed as much about them holding onto funds.
1595  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Paypal just bent me over on: October 25, 2012, 11:44:17 PM
There is a way to sell BTC on eBay. Without all the fees. Especially without PayPal (and the concomitant risk of chargebacks and fraud, since PayPal is the #1 choice of financial criminals worldwide).

Create listings in Everything Else>Test Auctions>General. There are guidelines for test auctions, that make your listing invalid; nobody bidding on it will get you assessed fees or any liability. Make the listing title start with "TEST- " and in the listing itself, put "TEST - DO NOT BID". Disable PayPal in the payment options, and check some other electronic payment method (that you don't necessarily need to have), as well as Pay On Pickup.

Buyers will ideally just send you eBay messages to work out payment offsite, or you can insert an image with your contact details on it. Face-to-face, cash in mail, and Liberty Reserve are the most secure options for sellers to accept payment.

Here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230868571478

Awesome, thanks brother. Much appreciated!

You should have sold an item with it that wasn't money. Enjoy the six month hold on your funds.

read two posts above douchebag.

Successfully sold over 3k USD worth of bitcoins on eBay...

Then I get this:

PayPal previously required accounts that were operating as a currency
dealer or exchanger to obtain prior authorization before utilizing PayPal
services. Your account did not obtain such authorization at that time. We
have since decided to dissociate ourselves as a payment processor for
transactions involving a currency exchange. Per our current Acceptable Use
Policy for Money Service Businesses, PayPal may not be used to operate a
currency exchange, bureau de change or check cashing business.

Due to your failure to comply with the previous policy and the high risk
associated with currency dealers including the sale of electronic media of
exchange (such as electronic money or digital currency), PayPal has made
the decision to sever its business relationship with you. While we wish you
the best of success in your future business endeavors, we respectfully ask
that you seek another method of payment for your online business.

Your PayPal account has been permanently limited and there will be no
appeals to the decision. Any remaining money in your PayPal account balance
will be held for 180 days from the date of the limitation. After 180 days,
the money will be available for you to withdraw.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,

PayPal Compliance Department
PayPal, an eBay Company

How, exactly, were you selling them?  Physical on paper, or just digital delivery?

The auction was for a penny ( snail mailed), the bitcoins were free (digitally delivered).
1599  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin going for more than $20 on eBay? on: October 25, 2012, 09:47:02 PM

Did your business with poison-garden seeds required some kind of license? If you were licensed then it would be illegal for PayPal to freeze your account.

No license is required to sell seeds. My auction listing had pictures of opium poppies and a link to the wikipedia page for papaver somniferum. this is where mom clicked... saw the word heroin and instantly the seeds were a drug and I was shut down. The same seeds that you get on a bagel. HEROIN DEALER?

Papal can freeze your account for pretty much any reason.

Omg, that is so crazy to hear. There are some crazy people out there, and PayPal pretty much didn't listen to you.
I know they can freeze you for any reason, but there has to be a good reason otherwise you can sue them. They are in the US and law works here.
They cannot just take your money without a good reason, that's what I mean.

They can't take it indefinitely, just for 6 months  Embarrassed
