161  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Vertical miner on: July 27, 2016, 04:00:57 AM
Do you have multiple miners?
If not, wouldn't hanging them horizontally do the same thing? (Assuming you're not touching a heat resistant surface)

It's lacking a few thing's that I see.  We really could use info like what miner's he's running and number of miner's.   As different miner's could be a huge difference in watt's used and heat.

A picture of setup and further specifications would let us know a lot more.  I personally have always positioned miners horizontally never have had the need to try vertical setup.   With my mining area horizontal works just fine no performance issue's.  I do use a decent amount of CFM's though during midwest heat during summer to keep gear cool.   So vertical setup.... very much depends on your setup.  Have not seen a decent sized mining area use vertical setup that I can think of though.

Notlist3d        = -7.8

Dang... interesting reading this after getting home from a conference.  I had been keeping up with price but had not been watching difficulty.   Happy to see a negative most likely.   I wonder if some gear is finally coming offline.    I keep thinking it will happen... but seems slow.

Either way it's a win if we can keep BTC price stable and get a negative.  I would consider that a good difficulty period for sure.
163  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 16nm miner to be for sale in this September on: July 27, 2016, 03:44:53 AM
Folks,

Today I read the news that Shandong Luyitong Intelligent Electric PLC (the company that intends to acquire Canaan) had disclosed their correspondence to Shenzhen Stock Exchange's queries on this transaction. This lengthy document can be found from SZ stock exchange (http://www.szse.cn/UpFiles/fxklwxhj/NMK30042314281255HF.pdf).

On page 39/119, a paragraph outlined their plans for the remaining of 2016, including a status update of their 16nm miner progress.

Apparently they have completed the prototype and specification. The new generation of AvalonMiner will use chips from TSMC. They expect first batch of the chips to arrive in mid-to-late August, then the first batch of AvalonMiner sale would commence in September. Expected sales volume will be 80k to 100k.

Thoughts?

always good to get more miners in the market. A6 is a rock.

So are the 4.1's they are dated at this point.  I don't have free electricity unfortunately or I would have kept them.  They were only miner I actually got asked multiple times if I did anything to video I had posted to make it that quiet... and I had not.  Was a while before my mining area when I was still having miners all around the house.

I think them being bought out might be a indication they have something ready to come out.   But I don't want to get any hopes up as we don't know after being purchased if still will do sell's to small miners.   Also having chips and getting a miner out are two different things bitfury has shown this.
164  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: July 27, 2016, 03:37:20 AM
Had a good trip recently to a conference.   With being busy there and lack of secure connection ended up not making it on board much last week.   Just kinda catching up now.

Happy to see Bitcoin_BOy$ on here.   What issues are being addressed specifically if it's ok to ask?  Either way glad to have some time home and have time to catch back up on the forum.
165  Other / Archival / Re: Diff thread July 18 to Aug 1st? picks are yet to start! prize = $50 usd on: July 20, 2016, 06:27:20 AM
It may be that we are starting to see an effect of the halving on difficulty. Both bitcoinwisdom (-1.98%) and nextdifficulty (-2.1%) are showing difficulty decreases. We'll have to see how it actually works over the next 12-13 days, but this might actually be "real".

BTC price still at $673.

I'm wondering the same if finally some miners are going offline.  I thought leading up to halving we would see a lot bigger increase which I was happily wrong on. Really it is pretty pretty slow on dropping off on old gear.   I would really like to see drop off how much is home/hobby miners vs big miners.  If you think about it a lot of these bigger mines spent a good amount of money upfront for info structure (cooling, wiring, etc).    So it would make sense they might re-invest.

I am happy with BTC price though it's been pretty steady.   No big drop off on value side has been a great thing for those long term holding.
166  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about signature campaigns! on: July 19, 2016, 01:28:40 AM
I also want to join in a signature campaign. Is there some prerequisite that I should do or achieve before that? I was invited by a friend to roam around this forum, just to understand bitcoin and now I'm here. Getting paid is good while knowing bitcoin things at the same time  Cheesy Thank you!
of course you can someday. All you need just have great post quality in your account, so you'll more easy when you want join in signature campaign, to have that, you must know about all things which related with bitcoin.

Oh thank you! I wish I could join someday. Wait , post quality? which means? My post should be always correct in terms of english? Not sure about it.
About the things about bitcoin, I'm doing it to learn little by little Smiley

It mean's it actually helps with something.  Has substance and introduces something new to thread.  If your saying something like "I agree this helps!" or something like that it is not a post with quality.   Post's do have to be in English (unless certain forums) but your quality on that seems fine.  But if you type English that makes no sense... or in different language where it should be English yes likely deleted.

But again I stress read the rules that are official and unofficial I mentioned above: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0 .  If you follow that and are not spamming trying to get post count... chances are you will do fine.
167  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The bitcoin noob place to be on: July 19, 2016, 01:23:45 AM
Shouldn't people who are "bitcoin noobs" stay here and ask questions, or research if their question has already been asked?
We have many people on this forum who know lots about Bitcoin and cn share their knowledge with other people on this forum.
Maybe, instead, you could offer your own advice here on this forum and open up a hread to help beginners (make it much more of an open community)?

dude check the link. i will not answer your questions, someone who is more knowledgeable and has some kind of reputation.

on bitcointalk there is not that urgency for someone to respond right away.

for me it worked better when i have a real time conversation rather then posting on a forum.

You have your point because you have the freedom to choose what forum or ways that are essential to your learning about bitcoin. This forum itself have lots of information about bitcoin and youll able to learn even if your posting to threads.

It seems kinda crazy on it.  The second link of coin... seemed like another forum type group with a LOT less people/activity.   Not sure why you would want to go from the most active bitcoin forum to one with much less activity.  This forum just has a ton of great info, and a lot of it is in multiple posts as people tend to ask same questions over time.

The first link did not work for me... but looked at site seems to be a messaging app.  Looks like a possible chat like program? Correct me if I'm wrong but not sure how it is going to make getting started any easier then forum's.  And really getting started is SO  broad we need to know getting started to.... Is it just BTC in general, mining, holding, wallet selection, etc.  Just a almost infinite amount of things it could be getting started with.
168  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: With the halving now official, how much hash power are you turning off? on: July 19, 2016, 01:16:15 AM
Thanks for sharing!  Truly a impressive mining area love that it is in a actual server room.  Is that a hosting center? Or is it something you managed to get privately.

Just curious as if your ran S5/SP20 this long... makes me think you have found some place with great electricity pricing.  Either way thanks for sharing pics!
169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S7 power problem on: July 19, 2016, 01:09:53 AM
Ok guys, all miners seems to be working Smiley , 9 miners, only 2 seems to be having problems with 1 hashboard, and only 1 of those 2 have a big problem with 1 hashboard, you can check the image!

4 Psu wont start, but seems to be fixable, and one psu start but it seems it wont give any voltage on the pcie cables

(picture above)

That is one of the worst damaged boards that I have seen that was not on fire.  One heatsink falling off can damage a board.  And seeing damaged boards with some heatsinks off and some moved I don't think it is going to be fixable. How much water got on these miners and PSU's?

What part on PSU are you thinking will be fixable?   I just think water going through them most likely is catastrophic failure you don't come back from.  I hope I'm wrong and you can fix them though.
170  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about signature campaigns! on: July 18, 2016, 09:13:09 PM
If i was to join a signature campaign as a newb, ( I am not saying that i am going too / i am not even sure if its available ) And i would reach jr member, Will i get paid like i would if i was a newbie, or will it automatically change to the rates of what a jr member should get? etc?

It tends to be full member on biggest payjump.  I personally would not worry about joining a signature campaign till you hit it.  Some do it earlier... but they will not get a whole lot.  Due to many factor's new account's just don't get paid a ton.   If your having fun on forum you will not notice it I personally did not even look into it till hero as I was so into mining.  Looking back I should have done a little earlier... but hard to get mad as I enjoyed the forum even when not paid.  So paid or not I will still be here.

Kinda the scary part if you look in beginner forum is amount asking about earning quick or signature campaign.  If you come into forum and your main goal is getting paid off posts.... good chance you will be heading twords a bad.  Use your lower rank's as time to learn how to make good and helpful post's, and also equally as important learn the rules of the forum and how to follow them.  I can't stress enough how important it is to read - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
171  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: TeamBits - Bitcoin Wallet Cracker Released. on: July 18, 2016, 09:07:09 PM
Video of version 0.13a in action.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWDwOVepMqM&feature=youtu.be

Still working on a few issues, but works pretty well so far, I am going to add wallet.aes.json support for Blockchain wallet recovery. Also Am looking for suggestions for a new title for the application as another user pointed out using the work cracker as a tool name doesn't sound professional.

I would make sure to say that this is what could happen IF it is in dictionary.  Creating it you obviously used a passphrase in your dictionary.  I suggest making it more clear if it is not in dictionary... it can be much longer and in some cases impossible (realistically) to recovery.

You don't have to make a huge change even "TeamBits - Bitcoin Wallet Recovery Tool" sounds a ton better, takes away a lot of the bad stigma with "cracker".   Also I suggest showing virus scans online such as virus total showing if they find "bad things" in your software I suggest a few well known online virus scan's.
172  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Another newbie! have a few questions on: July 18, 2016, 09:02:19 PM
If needed, there are some more to choose from https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet and choose WEB
Some details are also provided there.
Weird that the blockchain wallet isn't listed.

Web wallets are not the best for all people though.  If you are storing a large amount of  coins a offline solution is much better.  With web wallets it is a hot wallet, so chance of bad things.  Yes some have very good history... but always "could" happen.

Some offline storage like hardware wallets are going to up security huge compared to web wallet.  But they do cost money, so no everyone like's them so I can understand that.  But paper wallets are also a great option, and you can do them for free.  Just make sure you do it securely and on a "safe" computer as if computer is compromised you do it on could be giving private key right to "bad guy's".
173  Other / Meta / Re: What's your "Report to Moderator" % rate at? on: July 18, 2016, 08:54:03 PM
I want to SERIOUSLY report this thread for having the most SERIOUS amount of tattletales in one place on this very SERIOUS forum.
SERIOUSLY.

Not sure if your trolling but reporting really does help.  There are accounts out there that just troll... getting rid of those comments helps forum.  Also there is a lot of spam sometimes a website makes multiple account's and post's crap posts to promote.   And there are some post that are so bad they add what I call one liners like "I agree good info!".   This is just some of the utter crud that pop's up.

I think reporting is a good thing for the forum's.   We don't know what they reported in this... but for them to agree chances are it was utter crap posts.  So I would say it helps forum  greatly having a lot report post's (assuming they are correctly reporting).
174  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: July 18, 2016, 08:46:04 PM
So I think you  are going to be stuck with higher RPM fan's unless you underclock it.   And I would monitor the heck out of it if your messing with fan's.    They really were not made to be quiet miner's.  There are some good mod's people have done on forum to quiet them some though.  Going to S3 level fan... I don't think is one I would do.

If I backed off freq to ~400, and put a S3 type fan on my Batch 6 S7.... I think it would still overheat on a day with ambient  > 85*F.... But why do that when you can just turn it down to 30% or less fan speed with the stock fans.  I would never consider S3 fans on an S7... The S7 needs the CFM.

Do two things:
Create a cabinet that is insulated to house the miner and its power supply.   Have a ducted inlet to the front, and have the exhaust ducted directly from the fan to an exhausting source. the further away, the quieter it is.  you really only need like 6-8Ft if you are ducting directly to a duct vent.

You only quoted half of my comment.  The bold part I do not disagree with it is entire reason for part of my post you did not quote.  S3 and S7 are massively different miner's.  Just look at watt's S3 366ish and S7 depending on batch 1293ish .   So were talking like three times the amount of watt's  which means more heat. :

I'm don't think S3's and S7's are even in the same ballpark.  If your looking at a fan that was mentioned great for S3..... chances are it is not enough for S7.  Specifically for those of us in summer.  I did have one of the S7-F1 variants which had 1 larger fan it actually worked with out issue, but was a higher RPM fan.

Yes you can do things to make it quieter like you mentioned.   But before doing all of this I would do some ROI math as S7 + building a decent cabinet to dampen heat that does not heat up crazy will not make sense for a lot of people.  All depends on electricity.
175  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: SHA-256 mining with Hashflare no longer profitable on: July 18, 2016, 08:37:15 PM
I recently purchased 30 TH/s SHA-256 cloud mining from Hashflare for $5760. (I first purchased a small amount and was impressed by the results and then got more.)

It was profitable before the halving and the forecast revenue was 24 BTC ($16000) per year.

The bitcoin halving was a catastrophe.

Now I'm receiving 0.034 BTC ($22.61) per day, from which 0.027 BTC is deducted for maintenance.

What remains is only 0.007 BTC ($2.56) per day. It will take 3.4 years to recover what I had paid.  Then it's almost time for the next halving.

I hope you are a troll account having no history.  But this is the sad part of almost all cloud mining sites.  They make it look profitable the first one's in might even make a profit.  But eventually most cut and run.  Hashflare is one that it seems recently has been mentioned more in newbie area.  Personally I'm not sure it is not a gorilla tactic of alt's doing it.

But I hate to deliver bad news is with difficulty going to rise you will never see all of your investment back.   Chances are there will come a point where maintenance costs more you make... so this means you receive nothing.   And there is not real proof hashflare ever had gear is where it get's worse in my eyes (at least none I have seen).  But chances are they did all of this simulating mining with no gear.

Also NEVER trust the site's ROI calculator that you are investing in they profit for it to be bad.  Can you point to which calculator you used?  Having was known it was going to having... should have known it before investing.  I do feel sorry for you but if anyone is going go cloud mining honestly go hashnest as it is only one I would trust.  Also there is no guarantee of ROI, but with hashnest you do stand a chance is how I like to put it.
176  Other / Archival / Re: Diff thread July 4 July 18th? picks are closed! prize = $50 usd + ½ ing on: July 18, 2016, 08:24:45 PM
And don't forget the pretty good % of "dreamers" who keep mining no matter what.

Does anybody have a stats of USB miners still on?
And I guess that a lot of other old miners are in the same situation.

....or am I giving them too much credit?

That's pretty much impossible to tell, any estimate you want to make based on 0.25W/GH and lower fall apart when people have free electricity. There are definitely people out there mining (USB for certain and likely s5/s7LN/s7/s9) on free electricity, and there's really no way to know how much hashpower that may represent both in pools and solo mining.

There are a TON of usb sticks that I think turned into collector's items.  Even today people spend way to much for asic miner stick's.  They were smart making multiple color's as it seems there are people that want to collect them all.  But as far as how many are shown as decoration vs mining it's impossible to say.  We really have no clue of how much of any miner is on the network.

I personally sold off a lot of my usb stick's.  I did lotto mine with compac's for a while there are still people using them.  I sold all but three I kept a prototype, reviewer unit, and production model.   I need to get them back up but other project's have taken priority.  On a side note we lost a little bit of gain we had on price.  Coinbase went down to 672 hopefully we can get it back up to 680 again.
177  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Still worthwhile mining with antminer S5? on: July 18, 2016, 08:19:33 PM
With the recent runup in Bitcoin price, I find that an S5 earns about $1/day NET of electric at the electric rate I am currently at.

No idea how long that will last, but on the other hand there are other areas of the US that have somewhat better rates for us SMALL miners than where I ended up at.

I too have to question this claim of $1/day in BTC revenue, much less profit after electric. If you are basing your figures on bitcoinwisdom, as I have in the past, be aware that it's still using a BTC reward of 25BTC/block. Try a couple of other calculators and you'll likely find that the revenue (i.e. before electric costs are subtracted), is more like 85 cents/day.

I still really like bitwisdom, I hope they fix the block reward as I do agree it's a shame to have old number there.  But there is a manual fix you can do right now to use it just go to the "Block Reward" and change it to current.  That should fix it where everything is working correctly I belive.

One thing to make sure to include in figures is cooling aswell.  With it being summer I do run some fan's in my mining area that really help keep the temp down.  I do not live where evaporation cooling works due to climate, so stuck with high CFM's pushing that heat.  Then I use a professional gable fan to get it out of my mining area.   But all this can add up so make sure to include it when calculating ROI.
178  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: With the halving now official, how much hash power are you turning off? on: July 18, 2016, 08:15:27 PM
Those with S7 miners, why don't you just undervolt your S7 to 0.20W/GHS ?

Sssshhhhhh.... dodnt tell :-)
Just turned of 300TH S5`s and SP20`s, but turning on 600TH these days in 20 pcs S9`s and the rest is new S7`s undervolted... ;-)

Would love to see some pictures of the 300TH of S5/SP20 that is a good amount of gear.  Do you have any pictures that you don't mind sharing?  Also out of curiosity how did you sell them off did you find one big buyer or have to do a ton of little sells?

Sounds like very cool though.  Best of luck with it all.
179  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Personal Mining on: July 18, 2016, 08:12:55 PM
Hi All,

I really thank and appreciate your information. I agree I just so new for this environment and need to dive more. That why some people said bitcoin mining is cannot make profit.
if there anyone who make income with your own mining ?

neking
Yeah, There are some people on this forum who make most of their income from bitcoin mining but you will need a huge investment in the beginning to be able to live off your bitcoin mining income.

For me it's a hobby and a investment.  I have spent a decent amount to get my mining area up to par where I can run quite a bit of gear in it as far as hobby mining goes.   But luckily a lot of it is initial investment's.     I am in it for the long term though I try  to hold most of mining, selling for electricity as it does add up.

But to be able to "live off your bitcoin mining income".  There are so many factors we would need to know how much you have in cost's to live.  For most mining as main job is not going to happen.  It is a nice side income but it is rather long term on ROI, so it does take a while.  The ones that cannot make profit are due to electricity in most cases, some VAT/import taxes can also kill it.  But still many that can make profit just takes a while.
180  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: cloud mining on: July 18, 2016, 02:14:01 AM
I've always kelt myself away from investing bitcoin somewhere, always been very sceptical but now I'm thinking... Are there any legit cloud mining services that can give out profit on a longer road? I've used cex.io a couple of years back and did get some profit on the long run.

For example, we see only the first site hashocean cloudmining said very legit, and will not scam. In the end we know they carry the customer money and said it was as hacking. LOL
From the above example you can certainly find the answer yourself. Is there cloudmining a really legit or not. But I think if you have a better hold bitcoin and sell them in the future if the price go up. Or do mining yourself at home Smiley

Maybe EoBot is legit, but after the halving they payouts reduce a lot. I think is legit, but not invest a lot, even they say that, just do it for fun.

please do not say maybe, because I think things associated with money it should for sure.

hashocean is just the recent example of what can happen to those users who invested to these scam cloudmining.
you'd rather invest to gambling sites actually. or maybe just hold your coin until such time that btc will rise for than 1K.

What seems to happen with cloud mining is a site will come up and target new user's.  Promise great ROI and use alt's to spread it on forum and telll how great they are.  But fact is sadly almost all cloud mining is scam or ended bad.   Just not a good track record out there for them.

Only one I send people to anymore is Hashnest, it is as legit as it get's on cloud mining.  There is no guarantee of ROI but you stand a honest chance at it.  That being said I know some have held off hoping for S9 on it..... no clue when that happens though.
