161  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GPU and CPU mining at the same time? on: April 25, 2013, 04:18:23 AM
Just getting started -- my test rig is dual Xeon 5780's (24 cores) at 3.33GHz and two overclocked GTX480's.

Simultaneous mining BTC on the GPUs at 122 Mh/s and LTC on the CPUs at ~200 Kh/s.  Haven't tested LTC mining on GPU's yet.

Hopefully BFL will get their act together at some point and will actually fulfill all the orders.

At last!  But not quite yet ...

While I've found many places to mine LTC, I haven't found a good wallet to store them. Any suggestions?

Why not the wallet that comes with the LTC client?
166  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory Question on: April 25, 2013, 03:04:26 AM
Hi,

Totally a newbie to bitcoin but I've gotten myself setup with Bitcoin and Armory.

I sent coins to the offline wallet and have backed it up, however, the balance isn't updating. I'm guessing because Armory is offline. I've ran Bitcoin-qt for the blockchain to be up to date. Then launched Armory and still nothing.

Shows a balance of "(...)"

The only thing stated in the window that displays Armory is offline just shows what the following functionality is available in offline mode.

I've got 74 confirmations from the blockchain.info site.

Any help would be appreciated! Will tip if anyone can help!

My understanding is that the network needs 100 confirmations in order to accept the transaction as valid.
167  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Few questions about LiteCoins on: April 25, 2013, 02:59:04 AM
Well i'm into mining litecoins now and i'm a bit curious about a few things..

1) BTC-E - Legit? I'm having my litecoins dumped to there, and will be selling/buying on there.
2) Anyway to transfer from BTC-E to bank or paypal? I clicked Withdraw and i see paypal min 100$ and it asks for a purse id? The Hell is that?
3) Any other websites good for buying/selling LTC?

THANKS

BTC-E has great reviews & lots of happy customers.  Haven't dealt with them myself, but checked them out on Webutation (http://www.webutation.net/go/review/btc-e.com)

Not trying to be flip here, but if I understand the end-game for deflationary currencies like Bitcoin, then the value of even small "denominations" will become so great as to be almost unspendable.  If that's true, then you probably won't use Bitcoins to buy T-shirts, instead, you'll use your Bitcoin holdings as collateral for the loan to buy a T-shirt manufacturing business.

Sure but what about your nanobitcoins?  How long do you suppose it would take for deflationary forces to affect the value of bitcoin to the point that nanobitcoins are too valuable to be spent for everyday purchases?

Ah, got it -- forgot how many digits there were after the decimal point.  So consolidaters will be balanced by spenders, and transaction fees will grow.  Thanks for the calibration.

Just started LTC mining -- looked around the pools I could find and decided on WeMineLTC (https://www.wemineltc.com/index).  Stratum-based and offering both CPU and GPU clients for donation only (no set fee, 1% donation recommended).  Using my GPUs for BitCoin but throwing my dual Xeon 5780's at WeMineLTC (24 cores total @ 3.5GHz) for around 0.25 LTC a day.

Hello,

another newbie, interested in mining litecoin, not sure it is worth it or not.  I have 4 I5-3570K machines mining currently.  20khash/s each machine though.

thanks for the info.

I haven't done any Litecoin mining, but if it's anything like Bitcoin, you'll soon need GPU's in your machines.  I remember reading that ASIC's that could run the Litecoin algorithm will be too costly to supplant GPUs in the mid-term, but I'm not sure which GPU technology (OpenCL, CUDA, etc) will give you the best bang for the watt.

Hey, Everyone

Heard so much about Bitcoin & mining last few months -- finally decided I'd start doing some digging.  What I didn't expect was the incredible community that has grown up around Bitcoin.  Nice to be a part of it all  Smiley
