161  Other / Meta / Re: My take on Merit on: January 27, 2018, 09:08:03 PM
I think if I had sum up my feelings on the merit system in a few words ...

It was designed to punish bad posters and spammers, but will likely imped "normal" posters as well.

But that's not to say it can't be fixed if problems become apparent.  The Admins will hopefully look at this system again in a month or two and make adjustments as needed.

But your point about only a couple hundred posters being able to stay "on track" for ranking up hits home.  It makes the case that not only will the bad posters be "punished", but pretty much everyone will be "punished".

162  Other / Meta / Re: MERIT SYSTEM - Effective way to regain a healthy forum on: January 27, 2018, 08:53:35 PM
I would like to make a couple of constructive observations on this thread.

1)  Merit is very limited, but if you give it, it creates more.  If a person receives two merits, they then are alloted an additional merit to give.

So the estimate is that 600,000 merits were initially alloted.  That means if it all were spent, an additional 300,000 merit would be created.  And if that were spend, and additional 150,000 merit would be created.  Etc.

Basically, we can almost double the amount of merit "in play" if we use it often.

2)  If possible, give merit in multiple of 2s  ... 2, 4, 6, 10 ... instead of odd numbers.  The reason is that by using multiples of 2, it will allow the recipient to re-give all the merit immediately.  If you give someone 1 merit, they are stuck with 0.5 to give until they receive more merit.  Alternatively, if you just have one to give, you could look for people with an odd number of merit to "round up" and free up a merit point.

We prefer not to disclose the reasons for our closure, however this may be a possibility.

We have been informed that people are being contacted by someone requesting ETH for DVD tokens. This is not us, do not under any circumstances send people ethereum for DVD tokens. This is people attempting to steal your ethereum.

We had lots of support, our community was growing and Dividend was beginning to receive good trade volume. We are devistated that things have ended how they have.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Airdrop or Fork asking Private keys on: January 27, 2018, 02:52:29 AM
Never, ever, ever enter your private key into a website asking for it.  There is absolutely no reason why you would have to use your private key for an airdrop.

When claiming a Fork, you do have to use your private key, but there are safe ways to do it.  Any website asking for your private keys for a fork is scam.

The safest way to claim a fork is to first move your coins out of the wallet where your private keys are being exposed, then download a community vetted, open source wallet from Github to claim the forked coins.  The only fork wallets I trust right now are the official Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold wallets.  All the others, IMO, are risky.
165  Other / Meta / Re: DE-MERIT? on: January 26, 2018, 07:36:14 PM
I think De-Merit is Okay, but to prevent abuse, I think it should be limited to one De-Merit per user given to another user.  In other words, I can't go and De-Merit all your posts because you said something I didn't agree with ... or at least, multiple de-merits from the same user wouldn't count against the other person's merit score.  But if multiple people want to De-Merit a user, then it can add up over time.

Name..........................   Symbol..   Date..............   Block......   On.CMC?..   Ratio.........   Website
Bitcoin Cash   BCH   8/1/2017   478558   Yes   1:1   http://www.bitcoincash.org
Bitcoin Clashic   BCHC   8/1/2017   491407   -   1:1   http://bitcoinclashic.org

Thanks for the list but it's the other way around.
Bitcoin Clashic forked from Bitcoin at block 478559 from the BTC chain.
Then Bitcoin Cash forked from the Bitcoin Clashic chain at block 504032 (Nov 13, 2017)

Check https://chainspl.it/

You are correct, I did have the incorrect Block reference for "Bitcoin Clashic", and I fixed that.  But I'm not sure I understand the last line, according to Bitcoin cash's website, it was forked on at Block 478558, which happened on August 1, 2017. "All Bitcoin holders as of block 478558 are also owners of Bitcoin Cash. All are welcome to join the Bitcoin Cash community as we move forward in creating sound money accessible to the whole world."

168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Can ETH make everyone poor? ETH price at $300 again soon? ETH bubble popping? on: January 25, 2018, 10:28:43 PM
What would ETH pop?  Ethereum is one of the few coins out there being widely used for its intended purpose.  I mean, the whole market could pop, but I don't see anything particular about Ethereum that makes me think it is going to under perform the market.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DeepOnion - How many ONIONS have you got in the airdrop? on: January 25, 2018, 02:22:51 AM
https://blockstats.pw/deeponion/

This site shows how many each member has earned.  If you click on "Show airdrop data for all users" it will list recipients.  I think the people at the top are forum mods at their community page, but there are a lot people will  massive earnings.
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of downloading fake MyEtherWallet app on Play Store on: January 25, 2018, 12:36:53 AM

Thanks for the heads up.  Does the Android store have a "report" button?
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Weiss Ratings starts grading cryptocurrencies - What can we expect? on: January 24, 2018, 01:04:29 AM
This could be interesting to see what Wall Street types think of the various cryptos ... but more importantly, it's another sign of cryptos getting accepted into the investment world's mainstream.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AIRDROP] XNN - XENON - Massively Distributed EOS Alt-chain on: January 22, 2018, 04:41:45 PM
Telegram seems to be the place to go if you have questions.  They are active there, and said they are still working on the Bitcoin airdrop.  This was posted today:

But please keep in mind that some news will follow soon Wink We are working hard to make the second step of airdrop, this time based on Bitcoin network. It will make XNN token the most widely held one. Also few applications to new exchanges were submitted. Please help us to expand Telegram network as well, just use this invitation link to invite your friends: https://t.me/joinchat/HdS0Q0ykUOFnJ5f6bHlEHw
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Darn etherdelta on: January 21, 2018, 09:19:04 PM
Bumping this thread because I noticed to today that Etherdelta was loading very quickly.  Fastest I've ever seen.  There is about a 5 second delay for the DDoS support, then about 5 seconds to load.  Used to take 30-60 seconds.
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AIRDROP] XNN - XENON - Massively Distributed EOS Alt-chain on: January 21, 2018, 02:53:51 PM
Their telegram page is pretty dead, but they post there.  3 posts today.  I don't think they are in any hurry.  EOS doesn't launch it's mainnet until mid-year so they have plenty of time to finish this last airdrop.
175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: GREAT CRYPTO DEPRESSION on: January 21, 2018, 02:32:00 PM
It wasn't that bad of "crash" really.  It basically erased one pump and a couple weeks of gains.  I held through out.  My blockfolio chart looks like this.

176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple Question on: January 21, 2018, 02:00:40 AM
Yeah, it just stays there.  It doesn't go anywhere ... it is basically a coin burn.  I heard some people describe it as a fee for purchasing a new wallet address.   I guess after a while the amount of locked up Ripple will start to help the price.
Defeats the purpose of Cryptocurrency, wallets shouldn't be paid for, and besides that's a high price right now.

Yeah, I agree, it is pretty high now.  It wasn't so bad with it cost a cent, or 20 cents. FWIW, they do have a system to allow that minimum to be reduced, but it apparently requires a vote.  Maybe they will lower it.

179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EtherZero [ETZ] Fork 1:1 Whats your thoughts? on: January 21, 2018, 12:20:03 AM
I plan to wait a year before trying to claim any forks.  If ETZ is still around and growing, by then there should be good, proven, reliable information and community vetted open source wallets to allow you to safely claim these forks.
180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitconnect is still available on Coinmarketcap and other exchanges? on: January 20, 2018, 10:54:53 PM
First of all, I'm not here to defend Bitconnect.  I've been calling it a Ponzi since I learned about it.

That said, the only thing Bitconnect had to do to comply with the cease and desist orders are shut down their lending operation, which they did.  I don't think it is in violation of any laws, anymore, so there is nothing wrong with leaving it on exchanges.  From what I've hearing, they are trying to reinvent themselves as Bitconnect X -- whatever that is.

That said, I wouldn't trust these guys with a nickel.  I can't believe people have bid it up from their $8 low, and I hear the Bitconnect X ICO is doing well?  WTF?  They just pulled off a $2.5 Billion con, and now are trying to raise another half a billion through an ICO.  Whatever.  People are gullible.  Reminds of the saying, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."
