161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which good altcoins can I hold along with Bitcoin for the upcoming halving? on: January 12, 2024, 03:38:45 PM
This literally the first halving I'm going to experience since knowing about bitcoin. So I've already started holding Bitcoin and lately the progression  has been going well!!.So I've some Lil funds with me but I'm thinking of which good altcoins I can hold for the upcoming  halving, that's going to also skyrocket too. I was thinking about ETH, BNB,XRP and SOL. But still, I  need recommendations from you guys about the best altcoins to hold for the halving please.
Whether you want short-term or long-term returns will determine this. After you grasp the market, you will know what to do. You have chosen wisely to hold reputable coins in this instance. Some excellent coins are ETH, BNB, Matic, and Sol. Having these on your wish list is fantastic. Yet, altcoin investors shouldn't hold their holdings for long.
162  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merit decay on: January 12, 2024, 11:42:32 AM
But the question arise, does S'merit actually disappear/decay?  I'll love to get a feedback from someone that had experienced it.
Am still a beginner who doesn't know much about merit decay but when Ever I want to send merit to someone, I usualy see a warning of merit decay on the merit sending Dash board. check this below the second to the last line, it is written that they have the right to decay unused merit, there is no point hording Smerit. Keeping it does not benefits you, and they deserve to decay unused merit in the future. Meaning its possible. Just that I doubt if people have left their sendible merit to see if actually this warning works.

And that's what am inquisitive to know if under such circumstance by virtue of the reserved right by the forum admin if the decay has been experienced by any member of the forum at any point in time due to hoarding or the user not sending it out let say for a few months. And, maybe those users that left the forum stayed away for a very long time to focus on other challenging affairs of life and, later returned back to the forum to take off from where they stopped. They are in my opinion the right people to tell us if actually any S'merits they left behind got decade during the period of their absence or not.
Yes, you're right. They left the forum, which was the only reason they focused on the other side.  That's why they have a long gap in this forum.  When they come back here, they don't know if they got their qualities right.  But because of their return, a little beautiful side has been revealed for us. We can know or learn more from them.
163  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CHALLENGE] Run A Bitcoin Node: 14 Days To 14 Merits on: January 12, 2024, 11:21:46 AM

To incentivize people to run a node, I am running a merit challenge. Run Bitcoin Core on your computer for 14 days, to receive 14 merits from me!

Challenge Rules:
  • This challenge is open for anyone with <1000 merit.
  • You need to download Bitcoin Core (any version from this decade) and run bitcoind, the bitcoin daemon, for at least 14 days.
  • The node must be running on mainnet, which is the default setting. Alternative blockchains like testnet are not allowed.
  • Every 24 hours, you need to run bitcoin-cli getblockchaininfo and paste the output here in code-blocks like below. This is to prove that you are actually running a node.

    Code:
    {
      "chain" : "str",
      "blocks" : n,
      "headers" : n,
      "bestblockhash" : "str",
      "difficulty" : n,
      "mediantime" : n,
      "verificationprogress" : n,
      "initialblockdownload" : true|false,
      "chainwork" : "hex",
      "size_on_disk" : n,
      "pruned" : true|false,
      "pruneheight" : n,
      "automatic_pruning" : true|false,
      "prune_target_size" : n,
      "softforks" : {
        "xxxx" : {
          "type" : "str",
          "bip9" : {
            "status" : "str",
            "bit" : n,
            "start_time" : xxx,
            "timeout" : xxx,
            "since" : n,
            "statistics" : {
              "period" : n,
              "threshold" : n,
              "elapsed" : n,
              "count" : n,
              "possible" : true|false
            }
          },
          "height" : n,
          "active" : true|false
        },
        ...
      },
      "warnings" : "str"
    }

    If running the GUI version of core you can also make a screenshot of the progress window.

  • It is alright if you forget to do a 24-hour update but don't give me just one or two updates and expect a reward for that.
  • "Merit begging" posts will be deleted.
  • You may run with any other configuration options as you like, such as pruning.
  • Nodes that have synced at least 99% of the blockchain (verificationprogress field in the output) will be given 14 merits. You will not get any merits unless your chain is near-fully synced.
  • Do not enroll alt accounts.
  • To join, start a bitcoin node and paste the output of bitcoin-cli getblockchain info here. That will be considered the first day.

I reserve the right to modify the rules or end this challenge at any time, with immediate effect, for whatever reason.

Good luck, and happy node running!

Is it still running? I want to do it. My laptop has 525GB SSD, 500GB HDD, and 8GB RAM. I am using ten mb net and want to start with it. Let me know if it can be done.
164  Economy / Gambling / Re: How to self exclude from anonymous gambling sites on: January 12, 2024, 04:28:16 AM
If you're a gambler, then control and manage how you're gambling before it gets worse to the extreme stage, also, if you're privileged to see someone gambling in the wrong direction, take it a responsibility to call them into order, some things were better done or dealt with in the early stage before they got worsened, having desires for gambling is not getting yourself harmed by gambling because if ignorance or lack of self control while gambling, the gambling platforms will not control you, it's your own responsibility to do so for yourself.
It is very rare that people listen to others when it comes to this as they will feel judged, and they will think that you are overstepping their boundaries by doing something like this, so even if you were correct on your observations about their gambling habits, you can bet they will continue to gamble as usual, and even if at some point they realize they had a problem you can be sure they will not remember that you tried to help them before things got out of control.

It is very difficult to advise someone who is addicted to playing gambling, because many of their friends or family will ignore them so they don't continue playing gambling, even though they use various methods, that person still continues to do it, the only one The way to do this is to wait for the person to experience financial difficulties in order to give a deterrent effect, but there will be something crazy that he will do in the future, even though it will be a big problem for himself, it is better to let him get into a big problem than to waste his words trying to advise him.
That's a really weird way to go about someone who is gambling and has addiction problem. No doubt that advice is like a total waste of time but I still prefer other method than allowing the person to  gamble away and get stuck because in the process like you said he might do some dangerous and unthinkable things just to achieve his addiction urge and you allowing him to do so is really not the best way to go about it.
In my opinion, simple advice like “Stop playing, you’ll soon go crazy with your games!”  completely useless.  The player is simply in a state of excitement and euphoria from the game and will completely ignore such comments.
But, for example, turning off the electricity throughout the house while such a gambling player is playing on a PC, deliberately done by one of his family members, will cause anger and even temporary madness of such a player if he realizes that this was done intentionally.  This is also a bad option for helping to overcome gambling addiction in the initial stages.  So the family members are wondering what else can be done to help such a gambler overcome his addiction.

Perhaps you know interesting original ways?
But then write them here in the topic.  Perhaps they will be useful to someone.

You're all right in your various opinions a.d to be honest here, saying a word ordinarily could help do nothing to avoid a gambler from gambling not to even talk about someone who is addicted to it, but as you've already mentioned,we can try out best in making sure that any gambling enabling environment is neglected or do without, this may curb the gambler at least when he can't find a means to gamble, another one is to avoid having fund that could be deposited into his casino wallet to be used for gambling, all these could be possible ways we can manage and deal with people like that.
Yes, I agree with your opinion.  But my question is, can an honest person gamble?
If he is sincere, then he cannot gamble. I think he will stay out of them.  It is generally said that a gambler cannot be stopped from gambling.  Gambling addicts cannot be tamed in any way. He can be stopped temporarily but he cannot be stopped in any way.  I've seen many unstoppable, but you said to ignore it. My question is, can it be ignored?
We can do our best to ensure that any gambling environment is ignored or not done. This can deter the gambler, at least when he can't find a way to gamble. But in this way, how long to hold?  If he crosses this barrier, he will be gambling. Another is to avoid depositing funds into his casino. There is no point in avoiding reduced funds in the casino because gamblers will not know where to manage their funds even if they are empty. Wallets will be used for gambling. These are all possible ways to manage and deal with such people. Gambling is increasing day by day, and it cannot be contained in any way.

Possibly dust attack, but the amount spent on dust attack will be a lot less than 4 Euros and the attacker will send an amount that is the minimum funds that can be sent which poses a risk to your privacy.

Dust Attack, what it is, why it is dangerous, and how to prevent falling to it by fillippone will give you an idea of what is dust attack and whether you should worry about it or not.
Thank you for the nice idea. And can understand clearly from fillippone's post in 2019. Thank you fillippone bro. Others are still getting good ideas by reading your old concept.
166  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Huge Russian mining center in Ethiopia on: January 11, 2024, 06:09:44 PM
What do you think about big companies making huge mining centers?
The creation of large mining centers by big companies, particularly in cryptocurrency mining, has both positive and negative aspects.
Although the industry can benefit from the efficiency and innovation of large mining centers, issues with centralization, accessibility, and environmental impact exist. It still needs to be easier for the Bitcoin mining sector to balance the advantages of scale and the ideas of decentralization. The effect of massive mining centers on the larger ecosystem might remain a topic of discussion and debate as technologies and regulatory frameworks change.
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mempool and why it's getting more attention this days on: January 11, 2024, 05:10:43 PM
My question is how can the mempool be improved to speed up transaction even with it congestions, aside from high fee's?
Several non-fee techniques exist to improve the mempool and speed up transactions even during peak traffic. Bundling multiple transactions into a single batch allows them to be processed as a single unit. This lowers the mempool's overall transaction count, improving space efficiency and reducing congestion. Algorithms can rank transactions according to their size and fee. Prioritising and managing high-fee, low-size transactions can help the mempool clear quickly over time and potentially reduce overall congestion.

Viabtc is a cryptocurrency exchange and mining pool that was established in 2016. A variety of cryptocurrencies, including Litecoin (LTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Bitcoin (BTC), are supported, and this Chinese company provides services.
Because of Viabtc's dependable infrastructure, reasonable fees, and user-friendly interface, the cryptocurrency community has grown to love it. Its mining pool and exchange services make mining operations easier and give users a place to buy, sell, and trade digital assets suitable for the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Recalling that improving the mempool is an ongoing project requiring a combination of technological advancements, community consensus, and coordinated efforts from network users is imperative. The strategies and tactics employed by different blockchain networks to deal with mempool congestion may differ.
168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 994 USD fees (30 Sat/byte) on: January 11, 2024, 05:03:45 AM
I want to move my wallet, and need to transfer all my coins. Electrum shows me 994 USD transaction fee to reach 30 Sat/byte.
Is there any cheaper option? For example importing the addresses to a wallet with lightning channel?
Transactions will be high at this time.  It would be best to wait until the mempool is less congested.

Otherwise:
You have THREE options:
1: Pay a high fee if very urgent,
2: If you have the mindset to wait, then wait.
3: Expect lower fees later on.

You can withdraw a small amount from your fund and withdraw the rest later.  It will be good for you, and the fee will be less.

I saw your screenshot.  You have 500 input. There is nothing to do but wait for it to subside.

You can see this post by LoyceV brother to get a more clear idea.  You will understand better.

169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New opinion of PlanB on: January 10, 2024, 06:36:27 PM
"In 2015, when I bought my first btc at $400, people said bitcoin was dead.
Back in 2015, Bitcoin was considered dead by many. It was right to think so because everyone thought it was a terrible situation.

The picture from 2015 shows what the situation was like.

Bitcoin is not dead but stronger with time and people get more boring to call "Bitcoin is dead" that is shown in the following summary chart.
Yes, saying Bitcoin is dead is getting more and more boring. They didn't see that Bitcoin's journey could have been more stable. It needs time to get stronger. Stabilises over time.

Today, btc is $40k, and S2F model predicts $532k after 2024 halving. People say it is impossible."
A halving after 2024 is not out of the question. The prediction must be precise and time-related. 2024 or 2030 is a good thing. I need time to become stable.
170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are your predictions for the state of Bitcoin in 2024? on: January 09, 2024, 08:01:09 PM
Since 2022, the value of Bitcoin has begun to fall. Following that, 2023 was a much worse year; in late 2003, a new version of Bitcoin was released. Furthermore, the market is gradually improving and stabilising. By 2024, we expect a slow recovery from our Bitcoin downturn. In the near future, it will also bring us good news. Things will get better with time. Do you think Bitcoin will be superior by 2024? Please share your thoughts.
We have had a terrible year in 2022, so bad that you can tell by looking at the market pattern. Bitcoin was all but doomed due to its poor condition. The beginning of 2023 was a bit bad, but finally, we saw a pretty good situation. Bitcoin's price will reach $45k by the end of 2023, which bodes well for 2024. I expect good things for BTC in 2024.

Bitcoin's superiority is not determined by the price but the network.
1BTC is always equal to 1BTC and the network functions the same way right from when it first went online.
It is true that the network, not the price, determines Bitcoin's superiority. That's right, and 1BTC always equals 1BTC. But I never thought Bitcoin would be so wasteful. When Bitcoin was at $55K+, I had a clear idea that it might touch $100k. But that's not how we saw the loss of BTC.

When the price drops it gives you an opportunity to buy more at a discounted price.
It allows us to buy when the price drops. But did you ever think that Bitcoin would be so cheap?

Hownlow do you think fiat will drop in 2024?
What will happen in 2024 is impossible to predict, but in 2024, Bitcoin will recover everything before and move towards something better.

no news from the project, promised a beta version and it is not, and there are also no exchanges, it's a pity there could be a promising project

the beta is in their blog:

I'm really interested in this project, I've already invested some ETH to it. But I have a couple of questions.

The beta will be available later this year only to investors or will be available to everyone?

How much will be the prices for premium services?

On which phase of development are you and where we can follow the development diary?

That's all I think.
Thank you.

Hola, gracias a todos por sus respuestas.

Este rig lo quiero para gaming, de precio pensaba un presupuesto de 1100-1400 dlls aprox.

Esto es lo que pensaba al día de hoy:

Procesador: AMD 9370
Disipador Corsair h100i
Tarjeta madre: ASUS CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z
PSU: 1100W
RAM: 8GB
