161  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: unexplained ticking noise from my avalon unit on: August 16, 2013, 01:40:50 AM
at first I thought it was due to the PDB not being properly connected.

now with the proper 12v rails connected i still get the same ticking noise

i put my ears as close as possible and waited for the noise and 1 of them seems to be coming from the ethernet port (with the PCB)Huh

i cant be sure as the whole aluminum case echoes the noise so cant really tell where the noise is coming from.

edit: now i know where the ticking noise is from. the damn fan and maybe the ethernet port's pcb?

i placed my phone's sound meter near the ethernet port for as long as i could (side panel open) and it registered some spike in noise.

but for the fan, my phone couldnt register the ticking noise on the meter despite hearing the ticking noise so i decided to use the vibration meter and placed it on the fan.
lucky for me, the fan gave 3 ticking noises soon after and registered nicely on the meter and my hands too (felt it through the phone)

yes there are apps for everything these days

need some help here.

recently i had some problems with avalon batch 1 where i burnt the PDB so the seller sent me a spare PDU and it looks fine under close examination
so i put it in and tested it and checked the connections multiple times.

I left it running without the panel just for a few minutes so that i can check if anything goes wrong
initially everything worked fine, then suddenly i couldnt reach the miner's page so check on the status. but it was mining when i checked the last share time on btcguild.

i decided to reboot it but it couldn't power up again. the led fan remained red, the avalon control board, usb hub and ethernet port all had their leds on.

how is this going to be finalised?
money in bitcoins held in escrow or wired straight to your account and hoping that when it arrives at your place, you will ship it to the seller?

so what;s the update on payment plans?

if i were to pay via bitcoins. what is the pegged rate? having problems paying via bitcoins (some error msg about not being able to connect to provider)
165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: August 12, 2013, 10:34:15 AM
Hi, in layman terms, what exactly are those gadgets for? Don't want to miss out anything important for my setup.

A normal computer power supply does not turn on the rails inside the computer until the computer tells it to by putting an 'on' signal on one of the pins of the motherboard connector.  These devices supply that signal.

If you connect your rig to an ATX power supply without something like this it won't run - there won't be any power supplied.

in addition, I suspect that we will need to create a special cable to power the rPI from the ATX.  Those type of boards have break out power pins so you can attach a 5 volt wire and ground wire to a usb cable.  An alternitive would be to power the rPI off a normal wall wart but that seems a waste when you have the ATX supply right there beside it.

/cet

does the kit need anything more to function?

i see the m board has 2 wire connectors and the rPi needs 5v usb

where does the PSU fit in?

Is it possible to connect the lan port to a mobile Internet device so that it can hash in public places?

Only If you get free energy Grin

well i dont pay for the electricity bills
anyway my pc's been out of action for sometime.
168  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: August 11, 2013, 04:52:39 AM
so are the kits ready to ship by aug or sept?

anyway i tried searching for info on using debit cards but there's no reply to that post

If we had photos now, they ought to be showing the fedex trucks in the background waiting to put the shown miners on the trucks to deliver to us, and even allowing they want to over-deliver that isn't scheduled to happen this month, right? So WTF is it you want photos of, exactly?

-MarkM-

wouldn't it be better if you had pictures of the miners and knowing the background kncminer and partners?

sounds like u are blindly defending

There info on the partners has been there for ages, you can't take a photo of something that hasn't been built yet, this is the first batch of these ASICs ever we are waiting on.

i'm not refering to the parters. i've heard about them.
question is, can they meet the production demand of so many buyers in ~ 2 mths?

Yes. We did. Thanks. It was one of the first things we did when researching who they are and what their partners bring to the table. Please read something about them, and inform yourself, as opposed to jumping to conclusions, and making assumptions that confirm you yourself haven't looked into their backgrounds, or those of their partners, or read anything about this project...

actual miner.
mercury, saturn and jupiter.

not mars

it's august and kncminer hasn't released single real photo of their miners?

Yes it's August, another month and you STILL clearly haven't conducted any research, read up about the company, or their gameplan.

Ignorance is meant to be bliss, yet here you are stressing without any idea of what is going on through personal choice.

yeah we all know they work with companies etc,

i'll be happy to get 1 saturn or jupiter (pre order) if they have some pics

bitfury has some pics at least.

bfl sounded rather legit too when they first came out right?

174  Economy / Economics / should I get more mining hardware? (economics question) on: August 11, 2013, 04:00:40 AM
ok this is aquestion on economics not on hardware

right now I have a avalon 4 module, but it hasnt been hashing for a week because i made a big mistake with PDU.  at best it's around 110gh./s bought it for 142 btc a few weeks ago

so meanwhile I have lost hashing time and difficulty's gone up

question is, whether should I buy another miner (kncminer or bitfury at 400gh/s for around 7k ) to average my investment in hopes i can at least make some money out of it.

of course, the kncminer or bitfury, if its\'s going to deliver, it's going to be oct or later.
175  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: August 11, 2013, 03:52:24 AM
So indeed the chips can do 450MHz

Using my numbers above:
(7.669 / 20) * 240 = 92GH/s at 400MHz

You increased the voltage in order to do that, right?
No I left it at the 1200mV default for the current run.

As you can see it reads 1223mV - but I'm not exactly sure how accurate that is.

Very nice Kano.

Any idea if this would be possible with batch 3 avalon hardware? With better cooling of course. Like 2x 120mm 6000rpm delta fans in the place of the stock 120mm fans in a batch 3 unit.

Well the API stats should pretty much answer that for you.
Though, from what I understand about Avalons, you need to pay attention to what PSU you have also.
These changes of course use more power.
I'd certainly suggest monitoring it at the wall vs the PSU you have and then adjust the frequency as you go and pay close attention to that and the temperature.
I added to the API in 3.3.2 the option to change the frequency as it is running ...

how much power does it use at 400mhz?
176  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: August 10, 2013, 03:47:01 PM
i see some users running at 350mhz for batch 2?

is it possible to run at greater than 350mhz, at 360mh? for batch 1 with say 1250w 80+ gold psu?

previously it was running at 345mhz on a 1000w psu

so i got a new 1050w and was thinking if i should return and exchange it for a 1250w psu instead for greater hashing rate and make up the shortfall(downtime)

177  Bitcoin / Hardware / does this mean the repair job is over? avalon's PDU on: August 10, 2013, 02:14:53 PM
ok

i am trying to desolder the atx power connector off the pdu as i've damaged it and when i looked at the atx plug i saw this

there's a small ring of copper or something around the pin.
i'm afraid it's the copper inside the mounting holes itself

does it mean it's totally gone case or i can continue?

based on the pinout and position of the pin, i guess it's the +3.3v pin.

178  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [MOD] Proposed Avalon noise reduction/cooling increase for B1/B2/B3 on: August 08, 2013, 11:17:22 AM
did u replace the top led fan with something else? or was it part of batch 2?

anyway so how was the results for the tape mod u did? any improvements in noise or temps?

i'm getting some akasa noisemats soon.

what about john?

It's only a power distribution board with melted connectors.

If somebody can post a good pic that shows all the traces, you should be able to test every single trace with a continuity tester.

Mark which one does not test good.

Then take it to a component level repair place and have them fix the traces. It won't be cheap, and it will take time, but it can be done. Resolder connectors on there, replace all capacitors, and you should be good to go.

If there is an actual chip on there that needs to be replaced, you might be screwed totally.

that;s assuming i have the pinouts
