161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin truly decentralized? on: August 12, 2017, 06:21:54 PM
Proponents of Bitcoin claim that Bitcoin is a decentralized system. And because it is decentralized, nobody can control it - not you, not me, not the central banks, not the Federal Reserves, not anybody. Bitcoin nodes are distributed extensively and not kept in a centralized system (for instance, in one server) which can be susceptible to hacking or take over. While the inherent system is designed to operate in a decentralized manner, external factors are making Bitcoin less decentralized. Why? Because Bitcoin transaction requires miners to validate and update transactions on the Bitcoin network. To do that, miners need hashpower. The greater the hashpower, the greater control the miner or group of miners have on the system. Currently, Chinese miners control more than 70% of the total Bitcoin mining hashpower in the world, making China the undisputed world leader in Bitcoin mining. Talk about decentralization. According to blockchain.info, 4 (19%) of the total of 21 mining pools control more than 50% of the hashing power, while the rest of the 81% are left with 47% of the remaining hashpower. Doesn't sound so decentralized, does it?

Moreover, Bitcoin developers are controlled largely by Bitcoin Core group that is being run by people hired by Blockstream, a private company. So now, you have bitcoin mining controlled by a small handful of miners and the developers controlled by a group of people belonging to a single private entity. Some argue that this is exactly what makes Bitcoin decentralized because none of them can gain control over it. Really? Because from the outside, it looks more like a company being run by two hard-headed CEOs who are only looking out for their own self-interest. When two CEOs clashes against one another, is that what they refer to as decentralized?

So while Bitcoin's inherent system is decentralized, the governing factors (hashpower dominance by Chinese miners and software development by a small group of developers) makes it less so.

As per me, bitcoins are decentralized so far its in your personal wallet; once you transfer it to the bitcoin exchanges then you have to follow their rules and i think its quite necessary to them for smooth transactions.

Please forgive my cynicism.
I was offered bitcoins in I think 2010 when they were 50p each.
I was tempted to buy £200 worth but had been just lost £200 to a ponzi money scheme so decided against it!

I have seem recent reports saying they are now worth £2,500

Are these the same Bitcoins?
So would I be able to actually sell for cash or money in the bank?

Sorry to ask, but I see lots of people saying they are millionaires but don't think I have seen anyone with the actual money banked.

I mean, my 400 bitcoins would now be worth £1,000,000 and I could actually sell them for £1Million less commissions?

You gotta see I'm sceptical.
Please tell me I haven't made the biggest mistake of my life?

What you want to say ? You are quite confusing. It happens dude, no one had idea in the past that bitcoin could reach this milestone. There are many people, who had just thrown away their 1000s of btc in the past.
163  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: August 12, 2017, 05:24:39 PM
India should have chosen to field instead of batting first. I guess they'll be all out before 400 (may be even 350) as SL now are bowling well and they managed to take the wicket of Dhawan and Rahul within a gap of just 30 runs. Looks like they'll have to work harder while defending their runs as the target is achievable for SL. SL may even manage to add runs after scoring.

I think India can still put a decent score in the first inning, if Pandya and Saha managed to add some important runs. Agreed with you that Sri Lanka can wrap up Indian tale within 400 runs but still its a good score. By the end of 1st day, both the teams have equal chance but India is favorite as they have outperformed SL in previous matches of this series.
164  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: August 12, 2017, 05:17:48 PM
Before SL series : Dhawan is not fit to play , we may have to drop him .
Now : Dhawan is consistent and best player so far Smiley

Yeah, Dhawan has fully utilized the chance which he got to play in this test series. Two quick centuries in the series has really put Indian team in good position to dominate and win the matches.

The Chinese are having dispute with all of it's neighbours and it's not new to them. Can you find Tibet on the map now.? No. Because China is occupying it illegally. Only if all of the neighbors of China teams up then only it'll be controlled and it is necessary actually.

Yeah, everyone knows that how china has illegally and forcefully occupied Tibet. In the past, India lodged their protest and supported independence of tibet but when sikkim became part of india, china refused to acknowledge it. Later on both countries came to mutual agreement , wherein china acknowledged sikkim as a part of india and India acknowledged tibet as a part of China.

Sikkim decided to join India after 98% of the people supported the move in a referendum. On the other hand, China forcibly invaded Tibet during the 1950s, killing tens of thousands of Tibetan civilians. That is the difference between Sikkim and Tibet.

Agreed with you mate, there is lot of difference between Tibet and Sikkim. I just want to clarify that, India will not support for the independence of Tibet as the situation has been changed now. If they do so, china will counter back with the support for independence of Sikkim and Kashmir.

Regarding the Doklam status, India has no right to interfere. It's positioning it's troop to a nation stating right of another nation.

The motive of India seem disastrous as there were no Chinese army in the region, they just wanted to obstruct a road construction.

Doklam is a part of Bhutan, as per the international laws. Since Bhutan is incapable of defending its territory against a bully such as China, it has requested the Indians to interfere and help.

China can bully smaller countries only and this time they were trying to bully Bhutan. But its India who came forward upon the bhutan's request to defend their territory and that road is also threat for India's security. India has every right to stop China's hegemony and defend bhutan's territory. As of now India has shown some tough stand and forced China to stop the construction of road in disputed area. Its almost two months but China is still just threatening India but no action has been taken by their army. On other hand India is also ready for limited war but both the  countries will try to resolve the issues by diplomatic channels.
168  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China Builds New Military Facilities in South China Sea on: August 11, 2017, 12:08:16 PM
China has built a new military facility on the islands of the South China Sea. The Chinese military project was revealed from a satellite image reported by a US think tank.

The Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI), a section of the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), reported in its report that a new satellite image shows missile shelters as well as radar and communications facilities built on Fiery Cross, Mischief and Subi Reef In the Spratly Islands, South China Sea.

The United States criticized the construction of China's military facilities on the artificial islands for fear that Washington's regional navigation freedom is missing.

Last month, a US Navy warship sailed within 12 nautical miles on the Mischief Reef with a patrol claim of freedom of navigation. The warship patrol near the Chinese-made island was the first since Donald Trump served as US president.

Washington accuses Beijing of militarization in the disputed region. But China denied it.

Islands in the South China Sea are disputed between China and other Asian countries such as Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.

China, according to AMTI, has previously built four new missile shelters at Fiery Cross Reef. Mischief and Subi each have eight shelters.

In a recent AMTI report, it was mentioned that a large dome was recently installed in Fiery Cross and another one is under construction. The facility is a great communication or radar system. Two other domes, according to AMTI, were also built on Mischief Reef.

"Beijing can now use military assets, including fighter jets and missile launchers to move to the Spratly Islands at any time," the AMTI report said.

Beijing's government and military have not responded to the report of the US think tank. However, China has insisted that the islands in the South China Sea are its sovereign territory, where Beijing claims almost the entire South China Sea region.

How do you think about this ?

China is a major growing economy in the world, they are looking to become a world superpower and they have the required potential. As it is ruled by the communists, they have the expansionist policy since the beginning. This is just a one chapter of their expansionist policy, they have border dispute with almost every neighboring country and its their tradition to claim the other territories to achieve their goal.
169  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: August 11, 2017, 11:40:02 AM
I not think Australia will lose this test series with Bangladesh because they now need to show a good team performance after what has been going on with the payment dispute. Bangladesh is a good strong team at home and can upset Australia but Australia have a much better team and should win the series.

Bangladesh have come a long way, beating Sri Lanka and England in test matches recently. They have bowlers who can bowl out the opposition and take 20 wickets in a match. In this series, it will all boil down to how the Australian batsmen handle the Bangladeshi spinners.

Agreed with you, Bangladesh is no more Minnows. They have improved a lot in past few years and they are quite consistent with their performance. They have already beaten top ranked teams; hence, it will be interesting to see their game plan.

The problem is that if Australia even win with a small margin then it will be humiliating for them and Bangladesh is capable of beating Australia which it has in the past. The Bangla player are experienced now and they can handle pressure situations smartly. It will be good fight if Bangla players give their 100% into this.

At the top level, the focus in only on winning. They won't be humiliated even if they beat Bangaldesh by a small margin. It would be a mistake to take any team lightly and Australia definitely will not do that against Bangladesh, especially on Bangladeshi pitches.

I think Australia has already faced humiliation when they lost the one day series against Bangladesh. Australia will be happy if they manage to win by big margin but lets agree that Bangladesh is improved competitive team and they will not gift easy win to Australia. Lets see, it will be interesting to see the outcome of the series.
170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Bitcoin is better than Gold? on: August 11, 2017, 11:31:19 AM
Quite a complicated question. You can not expect from gold such a fast and big profit, as from Bitcoin. But as for me, gold is still more reliable. We do not know what the future will be for crypto currency. But gold is practically an eternal currency, for all times and countries.
If you want stable investment guarantees, then it's better to choose gold. But at the moment, bitcoin is more profitable.

I don't think that, people are traditionally investing into the gold and they trusted gold as it is generating sure shot profit in the long run. On the other hand government have control over the gold so its a safe investment. Bitcoin is a decentralized currency and no one is responsible to monitor and regulate it. Though it has touched all time high value, there is always risk involved as there is a huge volatility around bitcoin prices. So gold will always have an upper hand over the bitcoin.
171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin will survive after 100 year ? on: August 11, 2017, 11:14:08 AM
I am asking this just to see the different opinions of Bitcoin community about its long term potential

I know Bitcoin is actually strong enough and stable as well

But what do you think about it after 100 years ?

I think bitcoin will be there but not sure about the value of the bitcoin. It is important that more countries should recognize the bitcoin as a legal currency, countries should regulate the bitcoin. it will be helpful for the bitcoins to grow in the long term and to earn the trust among the people.
172  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex - price manipulation, fake transactions on: August 10, 2017, 07:12:06 PM
I saw spoofing today or boxing in other term live and yes its frustrating. They set up walls, big ones, fake ones, restricting or moving prices by influence.

I actually mentioned it to the exchange and one wall came down in minutes.

Bitcoin CAN and WILL go UP and DOWN by spoofing, a big one is coming, they need their profits after all. I predict anytime now BTC starts to drop hundreds of dollars at a time day after day.

Why bother trading if you are not going to take profit, right.

I sold and am on cash for now, price will drop because big spoofers say so.

This is a really sad to know about this manipulation; if any big scam is in progress and the exchanges are involved in it, then one day this artificial balloon will be blast and the bitcoin price will hit the bottom. People will loose the trust and there will be very difficult phase for the survival of bitcoins.
173  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it too late to buy bitcoin? on: August 10, 2017, 07:03:04 PM
I do not think it's too late, the current price is still early and I'm sure another year the price will reach $ 10,000. I suggest not to continue delaying the purchase of bitcoin, as the price will continue to rise.

Correct, agreed with you. I also think that we have still good chance to invest into bitcoins if we have missed the earlier train. If we look at the current trend, I strongly believe that bitcoin will hit $ 5000 mark within a 6-7 months and there are bright chances of $ 10000 by the end of 2020. So if we start investing regularly then still we can book profit in future.

175  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bet on WWE on: August 10, 2017, 06:30:52 PM
Wow that's an awesome information I never heard about it as bitcoin can also be used for betting on WWE as it's very much risky betting on WWE as they matched are already fixed so for that reasons chances of losing bitcoins will increase that's all.

Yes, match results are already fixed in WWE, everyone knows that its a scripted show for the entertainment purpose only. Betting on WWE matches is not at all advisable so its better to stay away from it.

177  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How to make 1 bitcoin in a month or 2? on: August 09, 2017, 02:53:41 PM
it was pretty easier 1 or 2 years ago but right now, it is not a good time to earn 1 bitcoin in a month Wink 1 bitcoin is now equal to $3400 and there is no way to earn $3400 in 1 month without any skills or knowledge. You need to learn about trading or other skills if you want to earn more money with bitcoin

Exactly, as the bitcoin rates have reached its all time high; its really difficult to earn 1 bitcoin. With the help of signature campaign you can earn few bitcoins but not possible to earn 1 btc. Trading and gambling are the only way in which one can earn 1 bitcoin but its little risky.
178  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When to leave the game? on: August 09, 2017, 02:43:45 PM
I also don't know when is the best time to leave gambling, it's really hard to leave gambling when you lose so much money and bitcoin on gambling. When you come back to gambling and your mission is to winning back all your loses on gambling, but it's not success and your loses become worse.

Agreed with you, it is a greed which force us to play more, but as per me if you can not afford to loose more money then its better to leave the game rather loosing more money.
179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: August 09, 2017, 01:05:41 PM
SA played well today but the bowlers did not do a good job and gave away runs at almost 6 per over. Every bowler had an economy rate of 6-7 and only Dala and Pretorius could get wickets. The openers played really badly and they would have struggled in the end of the match had Iyer not made 140 runs and taken the game in his control.

I think South Africa did not batted well, they failed to score 300 plus runs in the both innings. On the other hand England's batsman posted competitive total in the first innings and their bowlers made sure to wrap up SA batsman quickly.
