Hi,

I understand that scrypt/GPU mining support was removed from cgminer. Still I think this would be the best place/resource to help me in understanding the following.

using cgminer 3.7.2 some people experience the following error
" error -4: enqueueing kernel onto command queue "

what exactly does it mean?

Mining on R9 290 hardware
people have noticed, that higher TC values can cause this;
also using less than 8GB RAM can cause this.

Any insight what this error means exactly?

I see this when the driver crashes.  I'm running 3.7.2 on a good number of 280x GPUs, two of which have 4 gb of memory on win7 x64.

Check the litecoin wiki page for recommended settings for your card.

M

but the driver does not crash. using 4GB ram causes that error with high TC, using 8GB ram and everything is fine (or lowering TC).
I am trying to find out if this is a bug in cgminer that somehow requires PC-RAM...

what exactly does that error mean?

163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AMD R9 290X? on: December 23, 2013, 11:52:32 PM
I just made a quick test on my testbench, which has only a sempon 145.

using the 280x at 740 settings gives little lag, even flash videos on youtube run almost smooth, altough I would not prefer watching it that way.
minimum hashing was 690.

using a 290 in the same setup lost me 280 khash to get the same feel.

so my recommendation against a 290(x) in a dual-use pc stands.

of course dual-use is never ideal (i never said that!), but I think old tahiti architecture is better suited than hawaii.

"You say you experience no lag at all between 280x at 100%? BS. I've got over 4 rigs with multiple 280x cards in them now, and even Linux shows lag and screen artifacts with 280x's at 100%."

first, I did not say that, and second, it is almost true!
I run my 280x not at max settings which is around 758kH, but that is way too loud/hot/unstable for productive environment; but I run them at ~738/744kH which is the efficiency sweet spot for that perticular card.

running everyday things I experience hardly any lag. that does not mean, that I don't notice any lag, but it is small enough to be not worse than a "4 year old laptop with 2 browser windows open" (that is metaphorical!)
lag is small enough that I can do my work without being botherd (and don't tell me i am not sensitive!)

using the pc drops the kH to ~700ish, most of the time it is around 710, but it goes down to 680 under load.

I cannot say the same for a 290 setup. lag is always way greater when running the cards at 80-90%. bringing them down so that lag becomes acceptable i could almost idle them. which is not great at all

thus: in my experice the older architecture is better suited for dual-use/background mining.
if you experience otherwise... good for you
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AMD R9 290X? on: December 23, 2013, 09:57:05 PM
that is the setting for the 280x that I use in my desktop system.
I was pointing at my original statement, that a 290(x) needs high intensity to work and and that is not compatible with lagfree dual use!

a 280x/7970 or 7950 is very compatible with using the pc regularly, a 290(x) is not! using settings that are lagfree, I don't get more than 500kH on a 290...

when I use my desktop system for office/surfing, etc. I loose 30-40kHash at I13, but am almost lagfree.

before I used the 280x I used a 7950 in my desktop system and got similar results. ~700 kH max and loosing some when working.

seems some of you are missing my point... (setup for dual-use/background mining)

165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AMD R9 290X? on: December 23, 2013, 09:35:22 PM
i am using 7950s and 280x in systems and have them running at there max hashrate 700/740 at intensity 13 and I get hardly any lack.
of course if I use video intensive software or utilize the system 100% my hashrate goes down, but at optimal settings I can still use the pc almost lagg free.

on my 290 systems I cannot do that.

so my statement is very right! if you want to mine "in the background", why use a 290(x)?

@pontiacg5
now tell me where that is wrong?

166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AMD R9 290X? on: December 23, 2013, 08:04:39 PM
Thanks for sharing, but this setting (--thread-concurrency 33792) will prevent my card from running with a -4 error Sad

And intensity 20 will prevent the computer from being useable ...

if you want to use your computer in parallel, why did you go with a 290(x)? you could have gone with any "older" card and would have got better results for less money....
I don't get what some people around here do...

since 290/290x seem to require hi intensities (at the moment), there is no real other option for you...
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: "Error opening block database. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?" on: December 20, 2013, 08:23:16 PM
Hi,

I have a similar issue, that appeared suddenly, and I am unable to fix/debug it on my own. Maybe you can help.

My environment is a Win8.1 Laptop with an SSD, and I am running Bitcoin and Litecoin QT clients.
Since space on SSD is "spare", I moved the datadirectory to a permanently inserted SDXC card (exFat) months ago.

To avoid accidental database corruption (ejecting SD-card; windows hibernation, etc), I keep a backup of the data directory, that I make ~ once a month and that I can use to start off again, if something goes wrong.

Recently both BTC and LTC QT got an update to 0.8.6/0.8.6.1 and worked like a charm, until now.

After syncing and (I think proper) shutdown, I wanted to start the software yesterday morning and it ended with the "Error opening block database. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?" error.

neither clicking ok to reindex, nor aborting gets me back at my db.

I tried several recovery (e.g. going back to my backup), they all failed.
I now focused on the litecon-qt since blockchain size and folder copying/indexing does not take days, but it seems BTC and LTC behave the same.

Even deleting the whole directory (keeping/discarding wallet.dat) before starting, results in the same error when using the datadir on the SD card (which worked fine before).

Now I went back to my main SSD and removed the "datadir" back to default, and redownloaded the blockchain.
moving it to other drives (even network mounted drives) works, but the moment I move it to the SD card, the client ends with the error message.

I have 50GB of free space on the SD card and ran disk-check tools. Also I verified that the card is working by running write/read tests. the card seems ok.

what can cause this issue?

I am posting the Litecon debug info (please bear with me), since i am running tests for filesize/copy-speed limitations witht litecoin right now, as I think it is the same error:

1. always do a "ctrl-c" before you post (especially on long posts)
2. hit the back button of your browser; any decent browser will keep a copy of your text... e.g. Opera

try it and report

i was not looking at a recommendation against my question, i was asking if it was possible and if somebody did it.

things i have tried until now (which i might go into detail later) to verify if it was possible did not look too promising, but since there are cases like the raven series, coolermaster haf (xb) or some enermax cases; i was still wondering if it was possble.

anybody tried it? (what cards? what cooling)

the reason why I am looking for cases is that i was hoping that they allow directed air flow, instead of turbulent air...

are there any systems/components that allow for directed air flow?
e.g. air tunnels to penetrate air between tight cards... or smth. similar?

Hi,

does anybody have experiecn with a quad crossfire setup without risers inside a case?

recommendations on case? reverence vs custom cooler?

i noticed that sometimes after ~3-5min cgminer gets back to speed, but sometimes it does not. and also it seems to fail to report card as sick/dead.
i stopped cgwatcher for some time and noticed, that if i run cgminer minimized I get an extra 5kH!

i will keep an eye on that. maybe watching the cpu or memory clock could be a nice option.

will report if I find a pattern

thanks already!

the problem is, that if the driver crashes, cgminer will report a wrong hashrate  (the last one from before the crash!)

i also noticed, that running cgwatcher decreases my hashrate by 15-20 khashes. can somebody verify?
175  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGWatcher 1.3.3, a GUI/monitor for CGMiner & BFGMiner to help minimize downtime on: November 28, 2013, 01:33:56 AM
Hi,

first of all: GREAT TOOL !!

I have a question regarding the settings/restart after the display dirver crashes

unfortunateley when my displaydriver crasshes, cgminer shows low hashrate in 5s average, but not in the "current hashrate", that is stuck at the last value.
so it seems that cgwatcher does not detect that.

i need cgwatcher to detect if clockspeed is below a certain value for a certain amount of time and then only a complete reboot helps.
any way to set this up?

example, driver crashed, clocks are at minumum, but cgminer displays/reports false hashrate...

176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7990 - 2nd GPU burning up ... looks abnormal on: November 26, 2013, 11:15:51 PM
i have notices on other (single) gpus, that cgminer only reports what the driver reports as voltage. but that can be quite different from what voltage is really set in the card!!!
177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Hash/Watt GPU Setup, Undervolting on: November 21, 2013, 03:59:01 AM
imagine high electricity prices... then your calc is even more off... ;-)

to me it is not about the money (i buy coins for that). but for operation with european electricity prices i need efficiency; not ROI

also, i guess there is a lot more potential in the new cards waiting to be unleashed with improved software...
178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Hash/Watt GPU Setup, Undervolting on: November 20, 2013, 02:50:40 PM
my preference is the 290 (non-x) as well, since some report 880 hasrates with good hash/power ration, also gives a good hash-density at the machine.
but since i don't like the reference layout/blower, I will go for a 280x right now. technology has been around, so I expect them to be more reliable for now. (also good deals available)

ordered a sapphire 280x dual-x to see if it is voltage unlocked (40G full retail model, since it was cheaper than the lite retail).
will put it on an old amd64 board to see/check and wait until other components arrive.

for testing i want to go with windows first, should i go with win7 /8 /8.1 or doesn't that matter?

recommendations of drivers/software and versions? installation order?

thanks for any advice, will keep you updated...

179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7990 - 2nd GPU burning up ... looks abnormal on: November 18, 2013, 11:10:30 PM
yeah my sapphire 7990 is not voltage locked.. my gigabyte 7990s were and they ran hot as hell.
my sapphire on the other hand has been running for a couple weeks non stop in my open case, 74-78c.

7990 tahiti (probably malta too? ) second gpu is voltage locked. But, if you set core clock at 700 with cgminer, then is posible lovering voltage to 0.950 (with cgminer). Second gpu always is more hot.

I have a Malta and the second GPU is not voltage locked.

I am looking to get a 7990 for mining, but the information about undervotling (second core) is incconclusive. which cards are you using (mode number?) and do oyu have more information about undervolting?
180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AMD R9 290X? on: November 16, 2013, 03:49:10 PM
that is my problem as well.

also, if i use watt at the wall, that is way different than what some hardware reviews report. maybe the card takes 250, but at the wall that would be around 290W

what temps does te 290 run with 800-880kH @ 250-300W?
